Dr. Maddox is amazing! And the clinic is clean and well-staffed, with friendly front office people and caring techs. The prices are beyond reasonable; although I loved my Manhattan vet, going to her office always put a huge dent in my wallet. Not so at CHAC.
Dr. Maddox himself is a bit of a character, but I've never seen anyone so good with the animals. He's like Dr. Doolittle or something. They never struggle in his hands and you can tell they're calmly resigned to whatever is about to happen. None of them even freak out when we're going to the vet now, and I never thought I'd be able to say that about my cats.
This is the best vet clinic we've ever used. Don't hesitate to make an appointment here.

I have to agree that, from a very limited exposure, that Dr. Maddox is excellent. He was very kind to me and my animal at the end of her life, and I'm very grateful for that.
Nonetheless, I also believe that Dr. Maddox' clinic is suffering from too much popularity.
The problem is that you cannot get an appointment with him now, and that his second vet, Dr. Gaberman, is, in my opinion, simply not of the same caliber.
Dr. Gaberman bungled euthanizing my animal. My poor dog died suffering, in pain and anxiety, because of how Dr. Gaberman handled things.
After that, despite making appointments for Dr. Maddox ONLY for my new dog, I've walked into exams with this person again. Each time is a reminder of my poor Cindy dying in an inhumane fashion, and I cannot do it again.
I tried explaining this to their staff, but they didn't care.
IF you can absolutely get Dr. Maddox, great. Otherwise, consider my advice: do not let your animals near Dr. Gaberman.

The best veterinary clinic I have ever been to. Dr. Maddox has a dry sense of humor, but his expertise and care for animals is unparalleled.
Fairly easy to make an appointment and the fees here are very reasonable. Dr. Maddox will never push any unnecessary procedure on your pet and has even discouraged certain procedures that other vets would have gladly gone through with.
Exam fees are great at $45. I just wish we still lived close by...
Steven V. has got all his ducks in a row on this one.
I have had my old dog for 12 years now and I have lived in Brooklyn for the last 8 of those years. My disappointment with the Vet services in this city had reached an all-time high when I finally made an appointment to see the good Doc. Seems as if all NYC vets are too overloaded with pooches and kitties to really devote the right amount of time or effort to their work. I had been to 7 different vets before I visited CHAC.
This place is top notch. The attention your pets get is 10 times better than anything else I have experienced in NYC to date.
Trust me, Dr. Maddox knows his work and actually likes doing it. REFRESHING.

Dr. Walter Maddox, DVM! Remember that name. This man is amazing. He took great care of my sick cat and managed to tease me and joke around while treating her. I could not believe how well she responded to him (not that she was happy about being grabbed and prodded).
His assistants are all very competent and I'd recommend this clinic to anyone!
