My god what a find! Our older lab was having many problems - not the least of which the other vets mishandling him. He was having digestive problems, his back was sore, he seemed like a loving old dog on his way out. After shopping many many vets, we were SOOO happy to find Coastal. The first day, they made major corrections to his back.....after 3 sessions, he was a smooth walking dog again. No ongoing treatments needed. His digestive (poop) problems had been severe for 2 years and had worried us greatly. They specified a simple, but custom diet that fixed him up right away.
They are so loving and gentle - the only vet that our dog ever enjoyed.
Thank you Yelp and Yelpers for guiding us here.

If it weren't for Dr. Rice I would never have known that my little girl had a chronic urinary tract problem that can lead to kidney and heart problems later in life! My prior two veterinarians had downplayed the importance of the urinary problem even though it was recurring and just prescribed antibiotics. Less critical health wise, but more critical to daily life was her ongoing scabby and itching skin. Both prior veterinarians had no suggestions...Dr. Rice recommended changing her diet to raw food which has been a miracle!

I am so happy that we started seeing Dr. Rice ...she has been a life saver for Margot and me! Using natural herbal supplements and switching to a raw, low phosphate diet has virtually eliminated the urinary crystals and skin irritations. Additionally, Margot's skin, coat, nails, and teeth look wonderful and healthy.

Finally, I can't recommend Coastal Holistic more highly based on how my dog reacts with every visit from day one ...happy. At all previous vet offices she would get panicky and want me to hold her or she would hide under my chair. At Coastal Holistic she walks right in tail wagging and looking around. The big plus are the exam rooms which are super comfy for you and your pet with big pet beds on the floors and cushioned benches as well as blanket covered exam tables. Lindsey and Joanne have been very helpful both in person and over the phone. Whenever I've had to leave a message they've gotten back to me asap. Dr. Rice has even called me back with lab results late in the evening and on weekends. You couldn't dream of a better vet office!

I came looking specifically for a holistic vet, one who wouldn't push grain filled crap food on me, or criticize me for feeding my cats a raw meat diet.  I also wanted more information on vaccinations and cutting down on the frequency my two cats were getting.

Coastal Holistic was referred to me.  I've been two separate vets here for 2.5 years and I have zero complaints.

Coastal Holistic will do a combination of both holistic and western medicine, which is what I'd prefer to see over something that's straight holistic only.  When my youngest cat developed a tumour, they ran the appropriate tests and did conventional surgery to remove it, and holistic medications for both pre- and post-surgery recovery.  My little girl came out of amazingly well... I was surprised at how quickly she bounced back from all of it, even on the same day of the surgery.

This office supplies both holistic and raw foods, as well as western and holistic medications, vitamins, and supplements.  If they don't carry something, they'll advise you on where you can find it.  The price is a bit up there I find, but given the care, service, and general atmosphere of the place, I'm more than happy to take the very scenic drive out to Pacifica for my two.

As a last resort I decided to take someones advice and get to Coastal quickly after my dog stopped being able to go downstairs.  I can't believe this issue is gone after one session of acupuncture and chiropractic.

Dr. Kari was magnificent.  She sat on the doggie bed on the floor and talked to my dog in a really soft voice while she did the chiropractic;  then began the acupuncture.  The tiny needles stayed in for 15 minutes and out we went.  Two days out-  my basset who is 15 is running down the steps like a puppy.

I would highly recommend them.  I couldn't be happier!

we have been going to them for about 2-3 months.  my dog, mochi, like Dr. Adam.  Mochi didn't bark at him from the beginning, which is rare.

we are on some chinese herbs and also changed his diet to increase more calcium and other thing he was missing from food i was making for him.

we went there for his allergy in the first place.  he still itches, but his skin is better.

Dr. Kari DeLeeuw at Coastal Holistic has been truly wonderful!  My older, usually nervous dog LOVES her and often falls asleep during the exam, he is so relaxed. She is always very present and caring in working with him. She is very clear in explaining various treatment options and often recommends that we NOT do certain procedures because they just aren't necessary at the time. She has been able to cure him of various aliments using a combination of traditional and herbal remedies. I wouldn't trust him to anyone else!

For the past year I had been searching high and low for the right holistic vet for my two cats.  I am a big believer in alternative medicine for not only myself, but my pets and needed to find someone who supported my beliefs and my needs.

Dr. Molly Rice is a godsend!  She is first and foremost a gentle and calm person who put not only my restless cats, but me at ease as well.  Her small office is quaint and feels like a home, not a sterile "animal factory" like most vets.
My calico cat who is normally utterly psychotic when visiting a Doctor's office, was so chill she actually fell asleep in the room.

The "exam" room is not like other vets - this one has a park bench for the mom's and/or dad's to sit on, a nice wood exam table and blankets on the ground so the cats and/or dogs can hang out and be comfortable.  No stress to be found anywhere around this building!!

After Dr. Rice examined my cats, she gave me a lot of great information on diet and nutrition, diagnosed them both and sent me on my way with various herbs, enzymes and diet instructions, which have proven to work like magic.
I am a huge supporter and will continue to see Dr. Rice even though I have to make the trek all the way to Pacifica - she is the greatest!

P.S. - She is also on staff at the well known SF Veterinary Specialists group in the city, but isn't taking new clients there.  This is a great place for specialized surgery or other more serious issues going on with your pets!!

My German Shepherd has been seeing Dr. Rice for over 5 years. She opened my eyes to holistic care and raw diets for dogs and she has definitely been instrumental in my dog's superior health.
My dog, Jazmin, is going through hip dysplasia issues now and Dr Molly wil be treating her with acupuncture and herbs. I put my trust in her and I am so glad that she has her own clinic now. She is super popular and admired, so if your pet is one of her patients, consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

Since the continuing saga of Sam, my man, was becoming grim, Dr. Cucaro at LM Vet suggested I check out Dr. Molly's electro-acupuncture and see if that might help his ever-worsening condition.

(Brief history: I had taken Sam back to the vet in April 09 as he was unable to use his back legs, had difficulty getting up and doing his "business.") Sam, being Sam, decided that conventional treatment just wasn't going to work on him.  Medicam didn't work.  It looked like it might be decision making time and I just wouldn't hear of it.  Sam was put on Prednisone which saved his life, but comes with consequences. Dr. Cucaro performed acupuncture which helped but again were just addressing part of the problem.)

Back to the here and now.  So Dr. Molly, who we had seen a couple of years back, checked him out, found that he had issues in his spine (degenerative), gave him a chiropractice adjustment, acupuncture, a change of diet plan and a guarded, yet hopeful, prognosis.

I've lived in Pacifica all of my life and can't believe this humble city is fortunate to have someone like her in town.  She is cutting edge on a lot of procedures and is one of only a few vets in the state that performs others.  And she's in Pacifica????  The high cost of SF space is our gain.  She is calm, loving, smart and has the solutions that western veterinary care doesn't always allow.  Right now she is saving Sam's life and my mental health as I do not know what I would do without him.  I know there will come a day where he'll have to go, but it's not his time.  He has a sparkle in his eye, a robust appetite and a hunger for all things "ball" at any time.  Now his body can catch up with his mind.

Moral of my story? It's not over until Dr. Molly says it is.  I trust her judgment and expertise of all four-legged things that much.

    And she's in freakin' Pacifica!!!!

I've seen my dogs with Dr. Rice and Dr. Adam. Since I moved to Santa Rosa, I don't find any good Holistic Vet like them.

One of my dog,Kai is very nervous dog but he trusted them . Usually Vet can't touch to my dog.  They really nice and make calm to my dogs, they answer my stupid question , give us good advice. I think I have to drive to see them....so far my doggies doesn't have any problem because Dr.Adam and Dr. Rice took care of my dog very well : )

Dr. Adam is our cat Murphy's vet. Murphy got his first urinary tract infection a year ago. We rushed him to the SPCA where he was "treated," only for his issue to return a few weeks later. After a friend told us about Dr. Adam, we experienced what holistic care is all about. We learned his diet was causing his problems. He gave us a diet plan that, at first, seemed a little much (raw chicken?) but after just one week of the new diet, our 2-year old returned to his younger days of running around the house, he licked out the matting in his new silky soft coat, and has never been happier. Whenever we have a scare, Dr. Adam has been completely accessible and available for all of our vet needs. So far, so good...no more issues!

This is an update. Since the last post I can report that Murphy remains a true trooper of fine feline health. We've brought him back for blood work (to make sure his kidneys were all on the up and up) and he's a 100% healthy 3 year old boy. Dr. Adam is opening is own place in West Portal this summer with an onsite lab which is a great service. Will update again when I find out more.

My 11 year old pug had acute diarrhea twice in the past week.  They gave me an appointment within 24 hours of calling.  Joanne who runs the front desk is kind, thorough and helpful.  Dr. Erica Gephard was the vet that treated my doggy.  The physical exam was very thorough and she diagnosed issues with my pooch that I had never heard about before and we have seen 8 vets over the years.  The care is wonderful and I'm so excited to have found vets that resonate with my preference for holistic care.

A little surprised with some of the negative reviews.

Dr. Rice is great! I started taking my lab to see her about a year ago. I will admit our first visit was a little rocky, the receptionist had not put us on the schedule and I drove 30mins to their office to find out we had no appointment. Dr. Rice called me later that day and apologized. She gave me a discount on our first visit for the previous inconvenience.

Since then we have been back a few times mostly for chiropractic adjustments. Dr. Rice is knowledgeable and really great with my dog, who can be skittish at the vet's office.

Every time we go in even if it is just for a chiro adjustment, Dr. Rice reviews my dog's record and checks up on anything I may have commented on previously. She is very thorough which I greatly appreciate.

It can be hard to get a hold of the front desk but in my experience they always call back within one business day

Prices are a little high but I have found the care my dog gets to be worth the price.

I just had my first visit and it was really great.  Who knew that a veterinary visit didn't have to traumatize me and my cat.  The exam room was pet friendly, no cold stainless steel, but a warm blanket and soft pad for kitty to sit on.  Dr. Kari DeLeeuw clearly loves animals and has a passion for keeping pets healthy.  My cat is 13, and hasn't been to the vet in many years, but is having a bad bout of diarrhea and is getting older and, i suspected, getting arthritic.  Dr. Kari took it slow, letting my cat get to know her, and examined her very gently, minimizing stress.  She carefully examined all her muscles and joints, and even did a little spinal adjustment and massage.  Coastal Holistic has so much to offer that you will never get at a traditional veterinary practice.  They definitely treat the whole animal, and not just symptoms.  I feel good about taking my cat here.

Dr. Molly has been our dog Roxie's vet for most of her 41/2 years. Molly is kind, intelligent, responsive and thorough. She's holistic but not anti-western medicine when necessary. Her office staff returns calls within 24 hours (or gives an accurate time frame on the machine) and emergency care happens fast. I wish I could get the kind of holistic (one-stop) care for my kids that our dog has received!

We've also seen Adam and he's equally wonderful. A good diagnostician, caring and gentle with Roxie while offering a great balance of holistic and more western care.

While the visits can get pricey, Roxie's overall health is so good b/c of  Molly and Adam's care that we don't have to come in very much. And since Roxie has intense allergies, this is saying a lot.

The drive to Pacifica is no big deal--the same as most SF places if you include finding a parking spot!

Humans can talk and describe aches and pains and symptoms and sometimes still doctor's can't figure out what is wrong.  Think how hard it is to diagnose what is wrong with animals who can't talk.  That is why it is so important to find a veterinarian who is truly in tune with animals.  Dr. Adam is that veterinarian.  His love of animals and dedication to help them is deeply embedded into his soul and our animals are so lucky to have him on their side.

I took my pittie Annabelle to Coastal Holistics for acupuncture to help control her seizures.  During our initial visit, Mr. Adam spent an hour with  us, discussing AnnaB's condition and the changes in her behavior --  but not at my level - her's.  He sat on floor next to her, touching her and looking at her.  He confirmed my suspicion of an inaccurate diagnosis of epilepsy from a different vet in the city.  I spent $2,000 trying tto figure out what in the world what was going on with my girl.  A visit with Dr. Adam, $165 and he was right.  My sweet dog had a very aggressive form of cancer that formed a tumor on her brain that was eating tissue away from her skull and nasal cavity.  If I had never met Dr. Adam and not been encouraged to get certain tests done (that other vets told me was a waste of my money), I am positive my dog would have suffered more than she already was.  We were certainly blessed finding him.  I highly recommend him and even though your dog can't talk, he or she will thank you.

Coastal Holistic is amazing. Dr. Molly saved our kitty's life with acupuncture, a custom diet and herbs. What more can I say? The multiple traditional vets we went to previously suggested that we put him down, with no solutions to his illness(es). Dr. Molly's treatments turned him around immediately. He's been healthy for a number of years now, thanks to her. We love Coastal Holistic and are so grateful for their special care. By the way - it's a really short trip from San Fran, so don't be scared off by the address.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Molly. She's smart and thoughtful, and most importantly, she's calm, kind, and reassuring to her patients.

I have to admit, I'm not really a believer in alternative medicine. I only signed my cat on for it when a UC Davis vet told me there was nothing more she could do and the only other thing she could suggest was acupuncture. That's where Dr. Molly came in. Besides that I thought she was just generally a really great vet, the acupuncture actually did help my cat. (We only discontinued it after the cat swallowed one of the needles... not Dr. Molly's fault, as I was supervising the cat at that point. She just slurped it up so fast I couldn't stop her!)

I am a firm believer of holistic care but I am very disappointed with the service and treatment received from Dr. Rice. I was late for a shot only appointment due to a major road detour and not only did she refuse to give the shot to my pet when I arrived, she also charged me $75 "no show" fee. I tried to communicate with her and the staff that I did take time off from work to go to the appointment and it was not my intention to be stuck in traffic. They were not understanding at all and gave me rather mean and cold treatment. I will not go back to this place and will not recommend it to anyone. This place is only about money (I spent over $500 on a wellness check for my pet, when he wasn't even sick). If I could give zero star, I would.

Pets Unlimited, never again.  SPCA, never again.  Sooo happy I found this place on the internet.  Dr. Adam was so incredibly knowledgeable and informative.  The initial visit was definitely worth the $165.  I was stressed about paying it since I just came back from SPCA with a $200 bill.  But, he spent an hour examining my cat and inquiring about her diet, exercise, habits, etc.  Went in due to an eye infection and she is already getting better on the herbs and it's only been two days.  I don't know what the other reviewer meant by "his language."!!!  He speaks perfect English and is extremely compassionate.  My Mango is a freak at the doctor's office but she just sat and chilled on the cushion on the floor with him.  Highly recommended.

I was a Creature Comfort (Oakland) client for a while, but due to some weird things I experienced there I went looking for another holistic vet and found this place. It's worth the drive.

Love it! I took my Mimi-chan who is an almost 15 year old miniature yorkshire terrier. With her old age, she has become arthritic.
I wanted her to try acupuncture to see if that would help. Today was our first appointment. The office is very charming, homey and comfortable. Pacifica is a perfect location for them.  Joann at the front desk is very nice.  Dr. Kari took an hour asking questions, listening about Mimi-chan. She had a background in chiropractics, so she gave her  a gentle adjustment. Then we did the acupuncture. It was so unreal to see her put the needles in my dog. Within 2  minutes of all the needles inserted, Mimi-chan was fast asleep, drooling on my lap. It was really cool to see her so relaxed. Prior to that, we discussed various diet ideas, after care, etc... and I learned alot! The session was $165 for the consultation and $99 for the acupuncture. We will go back next week and probably the week after that. Then it will be every two weeks... whatever it takes to make Mimi-chan comfortable.  Seeing how acupuncture affected her, I'm thinking I better get some needles in me!
Take your special pets there... they know what they're doing and it's worth the price.

UPDATES: Second appointment was just as great. Dr. Kari is still cool and sooooo attentive. Mimi-chan's energy was stirred up and she's doing great today. Walking better, back starting to straighten out. She was congested a bit prior to the appointment, so Dr. Kari inserted a needle to clear her nasal cavity... congestion cleared! Will go back for additional care in 2 weeks.  Still love them!
Third & Fourth appointments still great.... Mimi-chan is showing great improvement.  It is worth every penny!!!  If you have any doubt about acupuncture/alternative medicine, DON'T...  it does work and it's amazing.  Thank you Dr. Kari! Thank you Joann!

Well, it is now October and we are still with Coastal Holistic. Dr. Kari is still awesome.  With her busy schedule and many appointments, it is really nice that she remembers and has a genuine interest in my dog.   Sometimes I may not have enough money for groceries or rent, but I will always scrounge up money for an acupuncture session with Dr. Kari for Mimi.

12/19/09 Had another appointment wit Dr. Kari. Mimi-chan turned 15 in November.  We weren't sure if we could make this December appointment when I booked it over a month ago... but surprise surprise, Mimi is still alive + kicking!  We had another lovely session with Dr. Kari. We'll see her again in January.  Just realized something today, pay cash get discount.   Every time I walk out of this place, I'm thinking how FAB Dr. Kari is and how lucky we are to have discovered Coastal Holistic. Happy Holidays!

1/21/10 Yup, we're still with Coastal Holistic. Dr. Kari is still the best! Mimi-chan had a great session today.

3/1/10  Sad news... Mimi-chan passed away at age 15 years, 3 months and 11 days.  Living this long had alot to do with Dr. Kari. We love her.  The day she died, I emailed the office letting them know and to cancel a pending appointment in March.  The next day, Dr. Kari sent a pretty floral arrangement and a lovely card attached saying how sorry she was and how amazing Mimi-chan was. I was and still blown away by her compassion. Did I mention we love her? Love Love Love her and Coastal Holistic.  I'm a fan for life. When my guinea pig Nacho or my other dog Irena need acupuncture or other alternative medicine, I'm calling Coastal Holistic and/or wherever Dr. Kari is.

It's so great to have a holistic vet here in Pacifica. I have been taking my King Charles Spaniel Cody to Dr. Adam, and he is great, and spends a lot of time with you and your pet and is very thorough and helpful. He put Cody on a raw food diet (Primal) when he was coughing and scratching a lot. After a couple of weeks on the new diet it all stopped and Cody is healthier than ever. Thanks Dr. Adam !!

All of our 3 dogs are patients of Molly's.  She's helped my 13 year old with her arthritis, our little dachsund/terrier with the itchies and 11 year old Jerry Beagle...well, he always needs help with something :)   Molly specializes in holistic and alternative treatments, but will not hesitate to use western medicine when it's called for.  Great office staff, too.  Pacifica might seem out of the way, but it's easier than trying to get from one part of SF to another and the parking is way easier.  And when you're done with your appointment, take your dog for a stroll down by the ocean...it's beautiful!

Dr Molly is by far the best veterinary holistic practitioner this side of the Bay Bridge! Her facility is warm and inviting - athough a little smaller than I thought it would be. Dr. Rice has the personality to put any wary pet owner at ease with holistic medicine and the benefits it would afford their pet. Her prices are quite reasonable as well. I refer anyone who is interested in Holistic / Alternative Veterinary care to Coastal Holistic and Dr. Molly Rice, and working in veterinary health care myself, I have sent more than my share of pets her way. Molly is the BEST!

Having heard & read so many great reviews for this clinic, I went in to check them out by buying food for my cat, before I actually brought her in. I like to know who I'm dealing with before I bring my animals anywhere. Glad I did. First few times I bought the food, not sterling service, but adequate. But when I received a bag of food that was obviously spoiled and unfit for consumption (this food is raw & frozen) Jackie got THE biggest attitude I have never experienced before. She poised against me and was totally unresponsive with any form of solution as if I was someone whom would just go away, (WRONG) and refused to help me in any way. She would not exchange the food or refund my money. She refused to allow me to speak to anyone else and even tried lying to me about the "manager" not being there. My last resort was to deal directly with the manufacturer of the food. I drove 30 minutes each way out of my way. The manufacturer immediately identified the food as being MISHANDLED  BY THE END RESELLER,. The food had been allowed to thaw & then was refrozen. Dealing with the manufacturer, Steve at Primal Pet Foods was a delight. Dealing with Coastal Holistic, specifically Jackie and the Owner Dr. Rice who were both very combative, unprofessional and ultimately unwilling to remedy the situation in the least, was a nightmare. I let the BBB know that the mistreatment of a paying customer will not be tolerated, but again Dr. Rice was nothing but argumentative, and arrogant to the bull headed degree. WTH! Can I get ANY customer service? Thanks Jackie & Dr. Rice for such an eye opening experience.  I will never forget it, nor stop talking about it, EVER!

I dont know how people are able to get in to see the doctors when the receptionists never answer the phone, when they return calls they tell you to call back during normal hours, and  then it goes into voice mail. By the time get an appointment to see the doctor and get the treatment I think your pet would be dead anyway so whats the point..

These guys are fantastic - my 11 yr old golden has terrible hip dysplasia and we went last week for our 1st ac with dr kim.  She's very kind, detailed and current on her medical knowledge.  I would highly recommend to others.  My golden is doing much better and we are headed back today for round two.

I agree with everything written here.  I am not a believer in holistic anything but i brought my cat to Dr. Molly after spending over a thousand dollars with 3 other  vets.  Dr. Molly is the only one who was able to improve my cats vomitting problems without the use of harmfull drugs.  I am very pleased!
