Excellent business!

They let me pick a truck up in the middle of the Christmas holiday weekend.  The truck was cheaper than the major chains, and it was in MUCH BETTER condition than any truck I've gotten from Uhaul or Budget.  I would give these guys 10 stars if I could.

The business is a bit hard to find, as I got bad directions from Google maps and they share the lot with some other places, but if you head north on 3rd from Cesar Chavez, it is there to your right.

Excellent place!

Tons cheaper, tons easier, and way more reliable than Uhaul.

No bullshit at all.

These guys are the best! Don't even think about going to U-Haul.  Great prices, cool & informative staff (Owen & Tom), and great attitudes.

I rented from here a couple times and every time either Owen or Tom are in a cool mood and are quick to get me going. They are down to earth and professional. I am VERY critical when it comes to getting help from a guy so this is saying a lot.

All of the trucks that I have rented have been very clean and graffiti free. The rates are about $65/Day + 25 cents/Mile which kills U-HAUL or Budget. Plus, the return policy is simple, after hours just drop it off in the lot.

I will be back to do business with them...

I needed a truck real fast to move equipment for our company.  I will have to be more then truthful here.  I do share the same building.  However they had a truck I could use with short notice that saved our lives.  We are thankful to Matt and Tom for helping us out.
Cheers

I called at 3:00pm Wednesday to make a next morning reservation. They asked my name and my telephone number and said they'd see me in the morning.

Thursday morning, I spend all of 5 minutes in their office before I am sitting in a plain, white, 2007 cargo van in good condition, with a cargo cage and rubber floor, low miles and full of gas.

I return at 5:45 Thursday and spend another couple minutes in their office finalizing my bill. All said and done, I spend $83.89, including rental plus tax, mileage ($0.22 mile) and insurance. It would have been $53.94 if I had not taken the insurance.

Here's my experience with U-Haul today:

Me: "Hi, do you have any pick-up trucks available today?"

UH: "Yes"

Me: "Great, I'll be right over"

UH: "We need to put you on a call back list"

Me: "Why? When will you call back?"

UH: "There are eight people ahead of you"

Me: *click*

My Coast Truck Rental experience:

Me: "Hi, do you have any pick-up trucks available today?"

PTR: "Yes, we have two"

Me: "Great, I'll be right over"

PTR: We'll see you then.

Very nice guys to deal with and NONE of the U-Haul bullshit. A decent truck and seriously cost me half  what I paid last time I rented a U-Haul.

Never again will I be dealing with U-Haul or the like. This place is quick and painless. You can reserve a truck in as little as 24 hours in advance (I even heard same day works, but why take the chance?). The whole process (payment, walk-through, keys and you're off!) takes about 15 mins total. It's inexpensive or at least comparable to most other truck rentals.  It's in a very convenient location, especially if you're moving in/out of one of the many storage facilities nearby.  You can leave your car in their parking lot until you're done.  If you are returning the truck after hours, simply pull in to a spot and drop the keys in a box by the door.  The service is friendly and helpful, nobody pushing insurance or unnecessary things on you.  I can't say enough about this place.  Just try it!  It'll change your life...or at least your moving experience ;)

Everything you hate about U-Haul?  Forget it.  This place rocks.

When you call Tom answers.  No automated attendant, no electronic waiting music.  You have a billing question Tom deals with it, not , no call center three continents away.

Tom knows rates, the truck count on the lot ( they rarely sell out), all the policies.  No coupons, no promo codes.  A reservation is a reservation, not an invitation to haggle and argue when you show up.  The day before he promises only the trucks he has, not what's supposed to come in.  Longer ahead, either your truck is ready or he'll personally call the miscreant dude who got drunk last night instead of dropping it off and tell them to get there with your truck, NOW!

The vehicles are in good condition, clean.  They work.  You turn the key, the engine starts.  They are not leftovers from  freeway chase scenes in the Matrix.  Heavy crap?  Think LIFT GATES, not ramps.

Your truck will be white.  It has no corporate logo.  You can drive around pretending you're a mobster or big-time burglar.  Maybe you are?  Nobody knows.

You save lots of money.  Tom does not upsell.  The rate he quotes is what you get,  daily, not U-Haul's half day bait-and-switch.  You pay extra for insurance and boxes or tape if you want, and there's a coke machine.  But that's it.

There are no bums loitering outside looking for work or tips.

Sometimes there are bigger trucks, specialized trucks, flatbeds.  They also have a rent-a-wreck franchise.

A class act all the way around.  It's like the first time you rode Jet Blue or Virgin, the first time you chose In-n-Out over MacDonald's.  You suddenly realize the crap you've been putting up your whole life is unnecessary.  There is a better way.  You'll be happy, not cursing  moving day.

Thanks to Yelp, I found these guys.  I was in "anything but U-Haul" mode after all the horrible experiences I had at U-Haul, and so I yelped truck rental, and found three rave reviews for Coast, so I thought I'd try them.

Renting through U-Haul is always a long ordeal.  Wait in line for 30 minutes just to do the paperwork in their store/office.  Wait for someone to drive you to their lot a mile away.  Wait there behind five other people for someone to bring you your truck.  Find out that (a) there's something wrong with your truck (b) after 15 minutes they can't fix it and (c) they just gave the last working truck on the lot to someone who was BEHIND you in line when this all started and (d) you're going to have to wait another 30 minutes while they write up a different size truck, go back to the office and sign the paperwork for THAT one...it seemed like every time I went to U-Haul, that's what would happen.  And then you have to repeat the whole thing in reverse when you return the damned truck.  So for a one day rental, a good chunk of that day is just spent trying to rent and/or return it!

OK, enough about U-Haul.  This is a Coast review.

Everything went smoothly, starting with Matt's prompt reply to an email I sent overnight.  He laid out all my options in his reply so I knew exactly what to do when I called:

I wanted a small cargo van, they had one.

I wanted a half-day rental, they let me rent it for $25 from noon to 5:30 instead of $44 for the whole day.  22 cents a mile.  They rented me a hand truck for $2.50 (half the $5 day rate) and Matt showed me that I could drive it flat (4 wheels) or upright (2 wheels) by taking a pin out and switching the handle  - very cool!  They threw in a moving blanket when I asked for one.

The lot is big, the truck ran great, I got to park my car there, and if I had brought it back after closing, I could have just parked it, dropped the keys in the slot and driven home - their lot isn't locked after hours.

There's a gas station kitty corner so you can fill up at the last minute if you forgot.

In a word - everything went smoothly

They are way down at 3rd & 26th, but as luck would have it, I just rented a storage space a mile from there (around 17th & Mariposa) so it worked out great for me, since I was moving things into storage.

Even if my move wasn't in the area, I would still take the time to drive to this location  next time, because you save so much time and hassle on everything else.

Easy easy easy.  Cheap cheap cheap.  After this experience, I will never go back to the hassle of dealing with U-Haul and the like.  I recently rented a 10' truck and dolly for an in-town move.  My truck was clean and in tip-top shape, and each one goes through a thorough 360-degree inspection before you pull out of the yard.  The guys in the leasing office were helpful both in person and over the phone, and I couldn't believe how simple returning the truck would be!  No muss.  No fuss.

Do yourself a huge favor : if you are even THINKING about using Uhaul, just don't. Use these guys instead. When I went into the office to get my truck there were zero people in line. I was out the door in less than 5 minutes. When I  was done with the truck I filled up at a gas station that is right across the street and dropped the key in the drop box since it was after hours. They let me park my car there too! Uhaul should take some lessons.

Easy as pie!  These guys make it painless.  I called the day before to rent a truck, I showed up, they swiped my card, I drove away.  It took less than 5 minutes.  Also, you get the truck for 24 hours and when you're finished just drop the keys in the drop box.  Done.

I'm not that witty with my yelping, but these guys made my reservation easy, pick-up easy and drop-off the same. Plus it was very competitive on price and the truck was in great condition.

Think Global...Act Local! Coast Truck Rental is the best when it comes to van/truck rentals...hands down! Needed a van to move a motorcycle to the shop and called around/looked around online. The best deals I could get were near $125 for the day (including taxes and high per mile fees) from all the big companies. I called Coast, talked to Owen, asked if they had a van and and he said, "yes" and put one on hold for me. I was there 30 minutes later and treated great...got out of there fast...and even let me park my car in his lot while I drove away in the van. All this for almost half the cost of the lowest price I had found. Check out their site for prices...cheapest in town and they even offer an amazing 1/2 day rate for 5 hours! And, best of all, they are local and family owned and that beats going to the big corporations anyday! I'll be going to Coast from this point on and not even bothering hunting around the web for so-called "specials" from the big guys that aren't "specials"  at all! Thanks guys!
