From the moment I discovered Coast Cabins I wanted desperately to run away and stay there. So eager was I that when my favorite Washingtonian suggested it might be a tad far for our planned Christmas vacation I fibbed and said I thought Manzanita was just over the California border. Despite my radical untruth (Manzanita is nowhere near California) he made my wish come true and booked three nights for us.

When we pulled up to our cabin I knew my expectations would be met and likely exceeded. From the silvery blue fish swimming on the nightstand to the modern organic products (mop) shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom and the soft sheets and duvet on the bed, our hosts had thought of everything (as you might expect two gay men proprietors to do.)

Within walking distance of the cabins is the beach, a wonderful bakery called Bread and Ocean as well as a delightful little wine bar called Vino Manzanita (of which the Coast Cabins guys are part-owners.)

If you desire modern, well thought-out accommodations on the northern Oregon coast, look no further. Coast Cabins is less than a two hour drive from Portland and an absolutely perfect place to relax, unwind and spend some quality time walking the beach, staring out at the ocean or even just siphoning off the provided wireless to read the New York Times or the Washington Post from bed on your laptops. While I think the place would be gorgeous in summer, we went in winter and the only thing missing was coat hooks on the door.

There is no where on this earth I would rather be.  Seriously, from 5 star hotels to hourly motels (that's right), even cruise ships and spas.  There is nothing like CC .... a peaceful utopia that is everything Zen.  One of the best things about CC is there are so many extras:  from the tranquil water fountain right outside the door, to the soothing music that greets you on the Bose stereo inside, to the beautiful live orchid on the table, to the inviting smell of cedar in the cabin, to the sweet little Beta fish on the kitchen counter, to the upscale bathroom toiletries, to the most luscious down comforter I have ever had the pleasure of wrapping around my body.  Everything about this place is lovely, unique and absolutely unforgettable.
