This was another recommendation from my aunt who had been there before, and said the food there was pretty good.  As soon as I sat down and looked at the menu things started to look oddly familiar.  Some of the items seemed like other things I had just seen - maybe from Old Ebbitt Grill.  The format of the menu was the same, and even some of the things I had gotten at Old Ebbitt Grill were on the menu.  We looked at the back of a takeout menu at all the Clyde's restaurant group's restaurants, and sure enough - Old Ebbitt Grill was one of them.

So going to Clyde's was like going to Old Ebbitt Grill all over again, but just in a different location.  We did get new things though, and luckily we liked Old Ebbitt Grill, so we were still happy to try the place.  I got the Paella which was much different than a normal paella, but surprisingly good.  My mom and aunt got the ribs, and a burger, and my dad got the lobster.  Everything was delicious.  Since it's pretty much the same place as Old Ebbitt, it deserves the same rating.

Clyde's was one of my "go to" places to bring out of town guests who were in the Chinatown area. I had never had a bad meal there, but this one was very disappointing.

I had the French Onion soup which was a large bowl and very good. I had the pork chop with brussel sprouts (I subbed for green beans) and the sweet potato au gratin. The pork chop was bone in and at least 40% of it was inedible fat. My meal came with brussel sprouts rather than the requested green beans, which didn't come  until a reminder and halfway through the meal and were average. The potato au gratin was barely warm and was kind of bland.

The service was mediocre at best, they leave a water pitcher at your table which is nice but the waitress disappeared for so long at times I almost wondered if she had quit.

I won't give up on this place based on one bad experience since I like the menu and the food is normally excellent, but it will be a while before I come back and was very disappointed in my dinner this trip.

The service here can be painfully slow, and the food inconsistent at best.  However, when they are on it can be a great experience.  It is a beautiful restaurant with the best location in Gallery Place/Chinatown.  Brunch items are usually wonderful.  If you are looking for a grilled cheese wait until you get to the Tombs.  However at this pre-Georgetown game meal I had the seafood chowder and the Taylor's breakfast sandwich which was an incredible dish. The sweet potato fries make it a world class brunch item.

Ok food, inconsistent service.  Fried chicken was good, but my guest thought her rice was inedible.  Server was professional, but entrees were brought out before we were done with appetizers. Salad was served without silverware, but guy had booked away so fast we had to flag someone else down. Crab soup was excellent, however.

We came here for drinks and dinner and ended up leaving after the starters... The reason was that they served us cocktails (mojitos and gin&tonic) that didn't deserve their names. It was sugar-water for $9,50 (way too sweet and zero alcohol). We complained with the waitress and she took them back. We were ready to get an improved version of our cocktails but the waitress didn't think we would get anything much different from what we had so we opted for wine and beer after that.
And because the service was so slow (on a Friday night but the place was half empty), we had only had the first round of drinks and a starter after being there for 1,5 hours so we decided to leave instead of sticking around much longer for even more of a sad experience...

I have come in for dinner and drinks here on many occasions, and have also attended two wedding receptions in the banquet room upstairs. The service, food, and drinks are always excellent and as an added bonus, the prices are very reasonable. The only advice I would give is to avoid coming in after an event at Verizon Center; it gets super loud and crowded to the point of bringing on a panic attack.

I was very disappointed with my last experience at Clydes.  The service was terrible and the server did not seem to be well versed with the menu.  I was also informed that this Clydes does not offer happy hour durning the winter, I found this kind of odd.
Needless to say I think this will be the last time I dine at this Clydes

Absolutely love this place great food and drinks.  I always get the fried green russia...they are one of the best things on the menu.  Nice and hot with a sauce that is to die for!  luckily this is right around the corner from the movie theatre.  Do we stop in for drinks then off to the movies.

I stopped in for a late lunch with a friend while visiting DC.  We split the Calamari appetizer, which was outstanding.

For my main course I had the Grilled Steak Salad, which was fresh and tasty, but the steak was just OK, and cooked medium instead of the medium-rare I ordered.

The location is great, and the prices were certainly reasonable.  The Calamari was $10 and the salad was $15 ...  I came in starving and way overdue for a meal, and left full.

This place is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. Most of the bottom floor has bars and a few dining areas. Head up the stairs and you will be at the dining desk. The alcohol selection is very wide and and the appetizer and entrees all look amazing. I got the shrimp appetizer and the penne pasta, a blue moon, and it was all cooked to perfection.

In Chinatown, we liked Clyde's.  Beautiful, rich wooded interior.  Roomy booths and excellent service.  It was crowded and we could see why.

The menu is quite extensive and they have a good variety of fresh oysters to try.  On this particular night they had a whole lobster special for under $20.

Drinks were excellent and the bar will come up with whatever you like.

We had the pot roast and ravioli, along with fried goat cheese salad.  All was super excellent.  Our wait person, Vance P. was superb and friendly, as well as accurate.

The kitchen was a bit slow, but given the crowd we could understand why.

Convenient to two Metro stops, so coming and going is very easy and relatively safe.

Give it a try.  Locals we talked with the next day agreed that we had chosen a great place to eat.

The Clyde's family of restaurants is easily my favorite in the DC metro area.  I have never had a bad meal there.

For appetizers, I really enjoy the New England clam chowder and the fried calamari.  As for dinner courses, you cannot go wrong with the the crab cake platter (1 cake is typically enough for me if I plan on ordering dessert).  The baby back ribs are also very tasty.

The atmosphere at the Gallery Place location is very relaxed with dim lighting and jazz playing in the background.  For any occasion (celebrating a special event or showing out-of-town guests around the city), Clyde's is the perfect place to enjoy a great meal.

This location gets four stars...only because they don't offer the salmon burger.  But they do have the wings..I like to order mine "double-dipped" (they fry them twice so they're crispy.  The wings are naked, but you can have them sauced with their hot sauce.  I usually get my sauce on the side.  But if you prefer your wings sauced, don't worry...they won't be soggy as long as you remember to ask for them double dipped.

Walked by the place and thought it looked interesting enough for lunch.  Puerto Rican Churrasco sandwich for lunch was just what I needed, the fries however were WAY to salty.

    Service was solid and attentive.

Great location and an expansive yet warm interior just around the corner from the Verizon Center make it a great place to go for a meal on game night

Clyde's was the first restaurant I ate in after moving into my apartment in DC.  I was in search of comfort food, Clyde's was mere steps from my place and I figured I'd start close to home and work my way out.

I've noticed after living here a bit that Clyde's is almost always crowded after about 5:30 pm.  Luckily it's also huge, so the wait is never too bad.  But back to this particular night: I chose to eat at the bar.

The bar staff was very friendly.  I had the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup (can't get much more comfort-foody than that), and it was really good.  Came out quickly, was perfectly cooked (outside of the sammy was crispy and perfectly browned, tomato soup was rich and well seasoned).

I don't drink much, and I don't like beer or wine, so I usually order a cider at bars.  I was a little disappointed that they don't have any kind of cider available, so I ordered iced tea.

Overall it was a great first-night meal.

    Clydes in Chinatown!

It's much bigger than the one in Georgetown... in fact, you walk into Clydes and it seems like a whole different universe than the climate out on 7th... Tall ceilings, big comfy booths, multiple floors and multiple bars!  The food matches the decor...all about comfort food.

I'm no vegetarian, but I guess I went vegetarian for this visit... we started off with the hummus which was yummy! (love hummus!) and I like that they bring it out with a variety of vegetables, pita, and olives!

Also had the crab cake... while it wasn't the best crab cake I've ever had.... it's a crab cake, and I love em.

They brought a huge ass water pitcher to the table which I don't remember getting at the Georgetown location. Inconsistent?  What is consistent among the DC chain is they seem to hire these superhuman waiters that are able to carry like, 6 plates on one arm...

I was in Washington DC for a family vacation and Clyde's caught our eye while walking through Chinatown.  It is housed in a beautiful building with lots of wood giving it a classy feel.

We had a party of five and were seated promptly in a spacious booth on the second floor.  While it looks like a small restaurant, we found this to be deceiving.  Our booth was located close to the kitchen door and as the meal wore on, we found the traffic to be a distraction.

The most memorable part of our meal was that three of us ordered the BBQ ribs that were on special.  As we all found out later was that the "special" meant that we would receive a gift of intestinal discomfort for the  rest of the evening.  While the meal was great, everyone who had the ribs had a lousy night at the hotel.

While this experience was disappointing, we agreed that the restaurant was nice enough that we would give it another chance... just not on this visit.

Came here one night after a long day of "politic-ing." I don't know if I could say enough good things about this place!

The atmosphere was wonderful! My friends and I sat in the area with the floor to ceiling windows looking out over the other businesses in the area. The service was great and food was absolutely excellent! I had the $18.95 Whole Lobster Special served with melted butter and lemons! Can't beat lobster at that price!

I was also amazed to discover that Nuts and Berries is one of the specialty drinks they make! No matter where I go, I can't find any places that know what this drink is, much less knows how to make it so I was pleasantly surprised to find it on the drink menu and enjoyed it's yumminess! Definitely made very well.

I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area and will be back when I return to D.C.

Brunch is not a big thing where I'm from, usually reserved for the day after weekend holidays or things of the like. Imagine my delight when I moved and realized that there's a great reason to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday: you can get the best food of the week if you do.

This Clyde's is easy to get to from where I live - haven't been to the one in Genrgetown yet - and they start offering brunch at 10 am on the weekend. Anywhere with decent coffee is instantly going to win points with me. The brunch menu has a wide assortment of appealing breakfast appetizers and entrees as well as several regular-hours menu favorites. I haven't known anyone to order a whole Maine lobster at ten in the morning, but if you wanted to you could at Clyde's.

With brunch they bring you complimentary coffee cake which, if you're there right at 10, is hot and fresh. My companion started with the chocolate banana bread one time, and the Three Little Piggies the next. Those are sausage patties dipped in pancake batter, essentially rendering them fried. They're topped with powdered sugar and served with syrup. I had one and I wish I never had because I'll be actively thinking about them often for a long time. As it turns out, you CAN make anything totally unhealthy yet so delicious people won't even care.

My brunch staple is the three cheese and spinach quiche served with fruit. I'm not the biggest quiche fan, but throw eggs, cheese and spinach together in a flaky pie crust and I'll give it a try. It's really incredible and I've been back just so I could order it.

Aside from the brunch being pleasant and quality, the ambience in Clyde's on 7th can't be beat. The place is really huge and I've been seated upstairs every time, for breakfast and for dinner. I even went there on a Saturday night at the rush hour with no reservation and only had to wait while a table was cleared. The prices are reasonable for brunch, lunch and dinner and you get a good amount of food for what you're paying for. They have happy hour and raw bar specials which get pretty busy due to their location. I'll obviously be going back, probably this Sunday.

I went with a friend after work on a Friday to grab a drink at the bar.  It seems like it would be a good place to stay for dinner but we had plans elsewhere and while at the bar were trying to coordinate with the friends we were meeting. The two stars just refers to a snippy bartender who mocked us for both being on our phones at the same time. I get it, I think it's a bit sad to see two people on their phones rather than talking. One comment I can understand, the third one got to be annoying. I don't need the bartender to be my friend and I certainly don't need a running commentary that is interrupting and intrusive.

Aside from that, it's huge so there are plenty of seats and we had no wait. The wine was fine and Clyde's consistently has good food. I think I'll take my drinks to the table next time, thanks buddy.

Six of us went to Clydes in Gallery Place last night. The pumpkin ravioli was AWESOME! The service wasn't too bad, but where they sat us was awful. We were in the very back next to a large "going away" party of sorts that had folks spread out sporadically around the room. VERY loud group and they were actually doing presentations of some type...which made it awkward to say the least. The atmosphere made it very hard to hold a dinner conversation without screaming at each other.

Our waitress (and trainee) actually had trouble gaining access to our table, but they did the best they could.

Overall, decent prices & wine selection, and the pumpkin ravioli was really great!!!

We had absolutely the BEST experience here. We were in town on business and every place around our hotel was EXTREMELY overpriced and slammed.

We settled on Clyde's and what a pleasant surprise. We waited about 10-15 minutes for a table - which wasn't bad considering there was a CAPS game that night so the place was packed.

Once we got our table, we were greeted by our AMAZING waiter Philip. He was so knowledgeable, friendly, and even joked around with us a little.

He recommended an affordable wine that was SO good. A lot of waiters will try and upsell you on the wine, but he gave us a selection that was SO good - and for $18, it was perfect.

We had appetizers which came out quickly, delicious salads, and then DINNER.

I had the 8oz. filet with spinach and potato croquettes and it was SO good. For $19 I was blown away. Yes, $19 is expensive for dinner, but for FILET MIGNON in Chinatown, it was a heck of a deal.

Everyone loved their meal - and we even topped the night off with delicious dessert.

If you're in Chinatown, this is DEFINITELY the best place to grab dinner and drinks with friends.

And their oyster selection is pretty impressive... I ordered 2 half dozens for a group of my friends and I had most to myself, oops lol their cocktail sauce is delish.
    The drinks are decent.
The steak is AMAZING!!! I asked for medium rare, and medium rare was what  was brought to me!! normally I ask for medium rare so I can get a medium steak, but this time, it was ON POINT!!! Good flavor, texture, it was one of the best i've had...
And our server Keisha was amazing, she was seriously one of the best server's i have ever had.

This place is kinda weird to me...I mean, I like it okay, but it seems to think it's more posh than it really is. It has the feel of a dumbed-down P.F. Changs or refined Cheesecake Factory with a menu that doesn't quite match either. It's spacious enough and is in a pretty good location for a "the-boss-is-out-it's-executive-lunchbreak-time" or the "leaving-the-movies-let's-grab-a-bite-and-a-drink" crowd, but is still one of those restaurants that kinda falls off your radar once you've been once or twice. Still, I'd give it a solid three-star rating.

*Anecdote* So my family and I came here for dinner after my sister's wedding rehearsal--long story, don't ask. Our waiter (let's call him Carl) had either a prosthetic leg or a bum hip (which has absolutely nothing to do with this story) and a snappy quip for just about anything anyone threw at him. My sister asked the somewhat awkward question, "Do you serve Coke or Ginger Ale?" Carl retorted with only slightly restrained righteous indignation, "We serve both."  "Okay...I'll have ginger ale," she replied. Her soon-to-be sister-in-law exclaimed, "You know, that sounds refreshing! I'll have the same!" Carl gave her a smug look that read, "Doesn't it though," limped away...

...and returned with two tall glasses of ice-cold lemonade. Really, Carl? Really? You're incorrigible. LOL

I've dined at Clyde's Gallery Place more than a dozen times over the past three years. With that in mind, I've come to the conclusion that the establishment's greatest strengths lie in its elegant and expansive layout and the fact that it offers good old American cuisine (We're talking everything from nachos to burgers and lobster tails..) for moderate prices.

Family-friendly. First date-friendly. The food rarely disappoints. There's even a pretty jumpin' happy hour.

But the service? Well, that's another story.

The attentiveness of the servers is always so "meh" here. In fact, perhaps the best way to sum up Clyde's service is "Hit or Miss" -- and over the years I've run into far more misses than hits. (A fact that the BFF never lets me forget everytime that I suggest this as a place for dinner. ) Hold your horses now, there've been no serious infractions, but I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I've received better service at Denny's. I mean they're decent with refills and keeping the orders straight, but what's a girl got to do to get some bread and a bussed table around here? How about a little spunk and a dessert menu? These poor kids just always seem so...What's the word? Overwhelmed, I guess. Maybe Clyde's soft spot for hiring folks with "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" experience in the hospitality industry isn't the most fitting one for such a high-volume restaurant.

Despite all that, we're giving this dark-wooded wonder, nestled right in the heart of Chinatown, a three-star rating. After all, this is home to the only crab cake in the DMV better than my Mom's -- and that 's gotta count for something!

Final Verdict: Not half bad...Check it out the next time you're in the neighborhood.

Not impressed. I brought friends from Miami in for drinks/dinner after running the marine corps marathon. Two girls ordered kettle one, dirty, up martinis. I ordered. Bottle of cab. After like 20 mins, the drinks arrived in shifts. Poured the martinis from a strainer into the glass. Ice and all. After another 10 mins we finally went up to the bar because I hadn't received my wine yet and the martinis were overflowing with water from melted ice. Bartender was super cool. Fixed is right up and I actually saw her tell the waitress what she did wrong. She came to our table and served my Cabernet in an ice bucket.  She apologized and said it was her first night. Shame on Clyde's management staff for allowing a server on the floor with zero knowledge of the menu, drinks, wine, etc..then salads came out. Ordered bleu cheese, got vinegarette. Finally spoke to manager since she never came back to check on us. Our compensation for everything to that point going wrong:  anne free house salad. Gee, thanks. And we weren't looking for anything free. It would have just been nice had somebody at least acted like they gave a damn that pretty much our entire meal was ruined because we couldn't enjoy anything.

Def was not what I was expecting.

I met two buddies here for a beer and dinner - the place was their choice.  I was a little apprehensive as I walked through Gallery Place (a Chinatown mall-like installation) to get to it, but it did seem to have a little personality of its own.

It's a pretty large space - downstairs bar area is a decent, welcoming roundabout, and it was full at 6, not surprisingly.  Upstairs opened into another bar, some conventional dining tables, and a terrace-like type of area beyond.  There's a larger dining area toward the street side, all with ample space.

The prices were reasonable and commensurate with the quality of the food - and maybe a little less expensive than most locations in a busier area for tourists near the Verizon Center, like this.  The atmosphere was also more mahogany/stately in appearance than I expected.  Service was generally attentive. I felt the beer list was more limited than I'd hoped for.  I enjoyed the calamari appetizer, my caesar salad was fair, and I liked my penne.

Generally, Clyde's was unremarkable but good.  I wouldn't seek it out again, but it was a fine experience.

The staff here is a little slow: slow as far as movement and slow as far as cognition. Actually, the word "little" is an understatement; these guys were REALLY F'IN SLOW! You'd think that by me actually sitting at the bar, right in front of the bartender...instead of sitting at a table and waiting for a slow waiter and then a slow bartender, that my drinks would come faster. However, you would have been sadly mistaken had you actually thought that. Instead of acknowledging my presence at the bar, the bartender was too busy prancing around like a fairy, batting his eyes and giggling at whoever looked like they were willing to gossip. Whenever I would actually get the chance to order a drink, of course he forgot and decided to go over to one of his gossiping buddies and leave me sitting there looking stupid...and angry. Then after about 10 minutes of me burning a whole into the back of his head with my eyes, he would look over and see me staring and then finally realize that he forgot to make my drink that took 10 seconds to make since no one else was ordering drinks at the bar.

Now I know you're wondering why I'm still giving them two stars. If it were up to him, Clyde's would get 0. However, I was very impressed with the drinks and the food. The drinks were a little on the sweet side, but I could tell that they had a good amount of alcohol in them. The food is also always good whenever I come here. The chocolate cake that took 30 minutes for them to bring out (without my "favorite bartender" checking up on me and letting me know what the hold up was, of course) was actually pretty good. For all that though, I could have went home and baked my own damn cake from scratch.

All in all ,will I go back to Clyde's? Yes. Will I sit at the bar where that guy is working? HELL NO!

Clyde's never disappoints. Not only is the food great every time, it's open super late.  I go there often before and after concerts at the Verizon Center or shows at Shakespeare Theater and it's nice to know that you can get a quality meal (and quality drinks) at a place that reliable time after time, visit after visit.
The downstairs has a nice, pub-style bar, but I am always upstairs in the dining area.  It reminds me of a large old parlor set in the 1920s... like a flapper or two might come out at any moment.
As far as the food - MMmmmm Mmmm!  Last time I was there, I tried the seafood orze and it was fabulous - filling, but still light, if that makes sense.  The time before, I got the sausage pizza and it too was good, although I would ask them to put on a little more sausage next time.  It was a bit light on the meat to be a meat pizza.  If you get the trout parmesan like my hubby did, be forewarned: that sucker comes out looking prehistoric, it's so big!  He absolutely loved it though.
The waitstaff is really accommodating, so much so, that if you tell them you have a show you are trying to make, they will do everything to try and rush your order.  We met another couple there and were running late for our dinner and thus late to the show and they got our order in and served within 15 minutes.  Delicious and much appreciated! I'm a regular now!

I tend to eat at Clyde's for lunch when I want to hear my guests' conversation; and I do make a reservations. I recommend making a reservations if you are planning to dine in the restaurant section (upstairs). Yes, there's a bar section (downstairs/main-level).

The customer service has been above-average from check-in at the front desk to paying the bill. I've order the jumbo crab cake is good -- no fillers, real crab meat -- single is about $12 and a double is about $19 (if you and your guest want to share the crab cakes - go for the double ($8 per person, cheaper approach). I also ordered the salmon cakes about $14; and they are good. The lunch menu is a little pricey; so this isn't my regular dining spot for lunch.

This restaurant is near Chinatown/Gallery Place metro station and is on the local bus routes.

F U N--FUN! This place is a great atmosphere, whether for dinner or drinks, in the heart of DC.

The actual restaurant, with dark woods and two large bars, has unique paintings in each room that are great conversation pieces.

The food is very well priced, but the drinks add up fast. I loved the hanger steak I had, along with the hot fudge sundae with fresh made hot fudge. The mint julip I had was quite the bourbon kick, that's for sure! The mojito was a bit too sweet for my liking. The bar staff is very friendly.

FYI, they have a company policy to not use energy drinks with alcohol.

So very, very average and very, very pretentious. And expensive.

With the seemingly fancy decor and sharply dressed wait staff, this Clyde's tries SO hard to be something it's not. If they were just honest with themselves and portrayed it for what they actually are (average American dining), rather than deluding themselves that they're this high-end restaurant with quality food and service, I'd probably like it a lot more.

The food? Average. Had to send back undercooked steaks.
The service? Below average. Slow, even to get drinks. Waiters who had to read specials from a cheat sheet.
    The decor? Nice enough.
The price? Way too expensive for what you get.

It's not a terrible place to stop by before an event at Verizon Center, but you don't need to get dressed up or anything.

The location: NICE. The service: MEH.

Whenever I do come here, and it's not often, I try to avoid table service or at least go to the more responsive waiter or bar attendant. Sometimes you can wait for a VERY long time and this can be on nights where it isn't busy. But the atmosphere is very nice and I love the location. Cool spot to hang with friends.

I've never been disappointed at this Clyde's.

The decor is just like your typical American restaurant but the food is high quality. Everything you order just tastes really fresh.

The service is also pretty good. The servers come by to check up on you to see if you're doing alright pretty often, which I like.

Get the Philly cheesesteak spring rolls for appetizers, SO delicious. I don't know why I'm so addicted to these!
