Ultra Classy!  And tons of personality.  Takes you to another era in time.  This is the best place for a romantic evening in Anchorage, that I know of.  I went to Captain Cook's roof top restaurant, and the host was drunk off his azz and reeked like wine. Which was cool by me, but not very romantic.

If you want to keep it simple and get some delicious steak and calamari, or get crazy and try some escargot, this is an AWESOME restaurant.

I sorely miss this sexy place, currently stationed in Altus, Oklahoma... AKA BF Egypt... :(

Plus you can either dress up or down, come as you like.

This place reminds me of being in NYC as it has a nice atmosphere.

The steaks were just average to me.

Double Musky Inn at Girdwood is far better!

True story, as told to me by a Realtor in Anchorage after the second gin and tonic (third? fourth? Whatever.):

"We had just moved up to Anchorage, and business was slow. I'd been working a couple of months without a paycheck, and the wife was getting a bit worried. Then we won a gift certificate to Cafe Paris at a Chamber of Commerce meeting.

We heard this place was really fancy, nice, great food. We got all dressed up, figuring it was a night on the town. Ya know, nice restaurant, good wine. Really enjoy the night, ya know, take her out, have a few drinks, feel classy. We walked in, and by far we were the most overdressed up people in the place. Our waitress served us in a t-shirt, and my wife was in a cocktail dress and heels. One of the guys was wearing a cowboy hat and boots.

But the highlight of my night? Bleu Cheese Filet Mignon. The best meal I ever had."

Strong drinks. Great food. Ornery waitresses. What more could you want?

Monday night, recession, what recession? Club Paris was packed. Had steak tips with a chipolte raspberry glaze. Yes, it was tasty. I normally get the filet, but the tips were the special of the night so I rolled with 'em. Glaze was excellent.

Waitress was very cool. Good music in the background. Slam dunk 5 stars. I have been to Club Paris about a half dozen times and have always enjoyed it.

This place is fantastic.  The decor is stuck in time, which to me is a really great thing.  The thing that elevated this review from a 4-star to a 5-star was exactly the thing that caused Brad W. to give it one star (which I can't even understand after reading his review) - the interior of this fantastic restaurant.  Anyone can create a "chainy" and sanitary upscale steakhouse like Sullivan's.  But there's something so appealing to me about sitting and enjoying a meal in a place that hasn't changed since it opened.

I typically don't order filet, as I usually go for the more flavorful porterhouse or ribeye; however, the server recommended the blue cheese stuffed filet and it sounded perfect.  It was.  Ordered medium-rare, this was the most perfectly cooked, tender piece of beef I've tasted since 1998.  I actually remember things like this, seriously.  I got the large filet and probably could have done the small and been quite happy.  I had to take half of the large one home and I'm typically not shy about eating copius amounts of red meat.

The sauteed mushrooms are a MUST.  They are quite possibly the tastiest I've ever had.

Interesting but great wine list with a few unique bottles.

Service was unobtrusive, friendly and unpretentious.  Leave your jacket at home -- jeans and a nice shirt will do.

This is one of the gems of Anchorage and I implore you to stop in and splurge on what will be a meal that you'll remember for some time.  I'll remember my meal forever!

To the wait staff here they think "unpretentious" is a good thing and they take it another step further to "rude". It's a nice place and the food was good but the waitress we had looked and acted like a someone fired down the street from one of the 4th avenue bars. No thanks - we will spend our money somewhere else next time.

The best fillet Mignon I've ever had in my life.
And I do my fair share of eating at fancified restaurants.

What made it so good?
1) started with a good piece of meat.
2) cooked perfectly to the temp I requested (medium rare)
3) caramelized, but not burnt on the outside.
It was just so tender and juice and flavorful and just everything you want a fillet to be.

Everyone in my party enjoyed all of their food tremendously.

The place is small, and we didn't have reservations, so we had to eat at the bar. It is not a fancy looking place, which is what you might expect from their prices.

But I understand that this is Alaska, and everything costs a lot more, just to get the food here in the first place.

It was worth it.

New York Times called it "The Paris," but we know it as "The Club."  If it was just bleu cheese filet that made this place great, it couldn't be this vegetarian's favorite joint.

Club Paris is about stepping out of our crappy tourist-centric downtown and into an Anchorage you want to believe in.

First of all, it's dark.  Club Paris dark is the kind of dark that gives pre-statehood sots a cherubic rosiness.  A welcoming dark that says to hell with the short days of winter, to hell with the long days of summer, to hell with Anchorage, to hell with hell!

After the dark, there is the bar.  The bar is your best friend because even when The Club has no available seatings until 10pm (more often than not), you can enjoy the whole menu from the comfort of a swiveling high-back barstool.  The bar is also the best place to watch the TV and trade wit with your favorite Anchorage bartenders.  You will look good sitting at this bar, even better with a martini.

After the bar, there are the booths.  Squish on in, they are romantic and private and cozy and fun.  Dish over your dishes, but pay attention to your server - they've got better stories than you!

Then comes the food.  Fresh hot sourdough loaves.  Perfect onion soup. Have another cocktail.  Or maybe some wine, instead?  Beautiful steaks and seafood.  Great salads.  Don't forget dessert: a friend lived here for a year and punctuated his lunch with the Peanut Butter Pie every day.  He has lost 40 pounds since leaving Anchorage, but says he stands by that pie.

I love that the customers are normal (locals), that the walls are crammed with charms (kitsch), and that I can escape crummy winter sidewalks during freezing Fur Rondy and watch the parade on the TV at the bar with a Bloody Mary for me and Irish Coffee for my fellah, who is still trying to decide between the French Dip and the Philly Cheese.

Lunch, dinner, life.  Reservations recommended.

I concur with the previous reviewers here.  I had a delicious teriyaki steak burger, and the service that came with it was funny, kind, and unobtrusive.  The cheesecake I ordered was soft and fluffy, but it did have that "I've been refrigerated for a while" taste.  My only complaint was the fries.  I had the option of regular fries or steak fries.  Call me a native Texas (as well you should) but what showed up on my plate was definitely not steak fries.  It seemed to be half of a potato, cut into four large slices, toasted.  Ummmm, no.  I ate the insides of two, but... ummm, no.

Otherwise, great atmosphere, great service, great steak burger.

I really liked this place.  It reminded me of a fancy 1980s restaurant when I would go with my family for "special" dinners.  In other words, it looked like a restaurant/bar straight out of the Sapranos.  If this place were in Newark, NJ, I would definitely have had my doubts to enter, but because this was Anchorage, AK...I felt straight at home.  Even the host, bartender, and waitresses seemed to be straight out of the 1980s/Newark, NJ.  However, all were super nice and the service was excellent...something hard to find in the 21st century...:)

Anyway, I went at 11 AM on Tuesday and got an immediate table, but it did get very crowded by noon and the place is kinda on the smaller side so having a reservation will help if you go during regular lunch hours.

I had the prime rib lunch special for $12.  It included a salad, steamed vegetables, and mashed potatoes.  For some reason, this reminded me when I would go to the Velvet Turtle as a little kid. (Give me a shout-out if you're from SoCal and remember that classic restaurant).

Overall, it's been my favorite restaurant in Anchorage if only for the classic feel.  The food was definitely only mediocre, but definitely go here for the great ambiance.

Club Paris is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Anchorage: best steaks in town.  Everyone talks about the unpretentious atmosphere which is fine (I'm not crazy about the cramped tables or the dark lighting) but none of that matters when the food shines so bright.  I suffer bumping elbows with my dinner companions to taste that melt-in-your-mouth steak.

I will say one thing, though: the wait staff has disappointed me about 50% of the time.  Maybe it's the dark lighting so they don't know you need attention but they come around to check on your table maybe once (if you're lucky).  I'd like my water refilled before my dinner comes (or after) but they're too busy, I guess.

But otherwise, I go through that as well just to have the food.  The steaks are absolutely the best!

I was pretty disappointed with the food for the price. And after all the rave reviews, I expected better. Unpretentious doesn't have to mean bad tables, place settings, decor, etc.  For over $30+ for a steak I expected a nicer place, better sides, etc. The service was fine, but again not up to $30+ steak standards. The steak was fine, but I've had just as good for $22 at other non-chain places. My least favorite thing was how the bar isn't separated from the main eating area, so it was very loud, especially for 5pm. Maybe lunch is better,  but for that kind of money, I'll be going elsewhere from now on.

An unpretentious, top shelf steakhouse: Just got back from a Wednesday night dinner and it's true to the positive reviews.  They were booked full an hour but we managed to get a table after a couple of drinks.  The service was charming (especially Maryann).  The Steak au poivre and Filet/bleu cheese were in rank with the best I've ever had.  The onion soup was unique; very herby and peppery.  I think I'll be back before I leave town...  fyi - They didn't have burgers on the menu for dinner

Pricy for dinner, but well worth it once in a while!

They commit the lunch sin of ground filet mignon burgers, which I imagine are pretty damn good, despite the initial feeling of waste.  Much more affordable at lunch too.

The 16 oz rib eye was perfectly prepared and flavorful without any need for help besides salt and pepper.  My meat coma lasted well into the next day!

Never got to hit the bar, but that's your best bet for quick service and interesting Alaskan folks.  Even with a reservation, we still had to wait 45 minutes when got there.

So you're in Anchorage and you need a great steak - Club Paris is the place to be.  No it's not a strip club or some other seedy joint (like the Great Alaska Bush Co.).  This small lodge-like restaurant serves a great filet or ribeye and has a great beer and wine list too.  Best of all, the food is so good that you almost forget that there is 14 feet of snow falling outside.  However, if you're going to be trapped somewhere - Club Paris isn't too bad.

Insiders note: if you like rare steak this place does it really well!

Good, reliable, Club Paris.

It was my father's favorite spot in town for a tasty steak and that was in the 80's.

Twenty years later, Club Paris is still where it always was and they've somehow managed to be just as consistent with their steaks.

If you're a carnivore, this is it.

You can't review restaurants in Anchorage without reviewing Club Paris.  I only gave them four stars and my reason might be a little selfish.  When I eat at a place, I expect Good Food, good portions,  good service, and good drinks.  Club Paris makes the grade on all.  The menu is versatile, and the presentation of the food is wonderful.  The steak dishes are to write home about, and the combo dishes are some of the best.  What I have trouble with is I am a working man.  So are they!  Sometimes the prices of the meals are very steep.  That is my drawback.. Don't get me wrong, I believe that you should get what you pay for, and they do a good job at it, it is just a little pricey for me.  BUT the main question is "John, should we eat there?".  The answer is ABSOLUTELY YES!  Good Alaskan Seafood, and Great Steaks, and extras with dinner.  What else could there be?

It is so strange to see all the reviews talk about the steaks at this place.  I, meat lover that I am, do not like steaks, so am not an expert in the area.  I am, however, an expert in burgers.  Let me tell you--this place will not disappoint you.  They actually take a steak (some nice, expensive one I'm sure) and ground it up to make the most wonderful, juicy burger ever.  Quite possibly the best burger I've ever had.  The place is strange because it is so dark and on a lesser traveled street downtown.  It was really popular a few decades ago, but still holds a strong clientele.  I definitely recommend this little hole in the wall joint over the nasty food across the street in the mall's food court.

I hesitated writing a review since so many others have. They point out the good - great steaks, good drinks, great service, and funky atmosphere. And they point out the bad-a little on the pricey side, and the funky atmosphere. We have been going there almost 20 years now. I appreciate the darkness of it because everyone is right about the "decor." It is full of Alaskan memorabilia. If you're not used to that it can be a little alarming. However, I'm rather fastidious about cleanliness and although it is dark and funky, it is very clean. The bar is old school. Their martini glasses are on the small side (as they used to be in the 50's & 60's), but they fill to the brim and then some.  I think what makes it unique is the people that go there. We have met some incredibly interesting (in a good way) people there at the bar.  So throw on your Carhartts, put on your bunny boots and prepare yourself for a bit of old school dining Alaska style.

neat  little place to go to for steaks.  i was amazed at the quality of the food here, and the service is top notch.  i had to take a star off because it is noisy and dark in here, and i like to read while i eat.  but i do like to stop in from time to time when i am in town.

it is a neat little restaurant, and the people waiting on you are a lot of fun as well.

the place has been here for years, and that says a lot in my book.  you don't stay open if you don't do a great job.

i love the way they serve their steaks,  on a hot cast iron skillet.(order your steak a little under done and you can cook it on the skillet as you eat.  it will keep cooking on the skillet.  the service was good the staf has been there a long time and know the menu well.  i gave then one star because the place is in dire need ov renovation.  it looksw like a old diner they are trying to turn into a steakhouse.  the booth we sat in swallowed us because the springs were so old the bathroom was in need of paint.  i understand its an old style alaskan place but it just didn't do it for me.  the martini's are small and just fit in the glass causing me to spill as much as i drank.
