    whoa where was i???

Doubletree San Jose was an experience and mainly becuz of Club Max.

The pink and baby blue neon sign says it all.

went friday and saturday night. R&B/Oldies cover band was rockin the stage more than decently. friday was pretty dead but i prefer the space anyways. as for saturday it was bumpin! all kinds of ppl. very very diverse and a lil intimidating for some im sure but dont be skerred! everyone there is only there to have a good time.

all in all, i love the vegas style ol skool flavor and would def come back just as long as i was staying at the hotel like i was ha.

oh and they r very strict w the cover charge on Sat ($12) but b4 10 on Fri its free. not so strict on the clothes at all. got in w my kicks on both days and saw lots of plaid button down shirts if u kno what i mean ;) but dont get me wrong ppl r also very dressed up there too. saw one lady in a tight one piece leopard print VELVET jump suit w matching heels and VELVET headband to match. she was working it w out a doubt. Velvet was an ongoing theme of the night and so were 3 piece suits w fedoras. i could go on but if ur around go chck it out just for the people watching. awesome.

Sitting at the hotel bar watching people go in. In the 30 minutes or so I've been watching as I drink my beer, I've seen 23 guys and 2 girls walk in -- and they were in their mid 40s or early 50s.

In addition, any cover charge for a doubletree hotel club is absurd.

Unless you have absolutely nowhere else to go, avoid this place. Even then you'd probably have more fun drinking with yourself at home.

Oh look, another group of guys just went in. Awesome.

Are you young and want to have a glimpse of what its like to be 40 and single?  This is the place to be!  If you're approaching 40+ and still like to go out, you will totally like Club Max.  It looks like it hasn't been renovated since the early 90s.  The only good thing about this place is the live music.  If I am still playing Go-Fish at that age I'll know where to go.

Was there on Saturday with my cousin...... One of the male bartenders was very rude to my cousin and I......he could of advised us that there was a line since we were standing there for 10 mins... there was no line just a bunch of people standing around the bar waiting for service..... very rude.... then we noticed after we got our drinks then he was very nice and pleasant to the three ladies behind us... wow all bad...besides the rude people the band was good...

Club Max is AWESOME!!!   The bartenders always provide FAST and super FRIENDLY service...the cocktails servers are pretty booked, but they're hecka cool. Haha!  The drinks are a littlle pricey, but hey, who cares...you have the security of partying in a hotel with GREAT tasting drinks that are sure to kick your ass. And heyy, there is definitely some steamy fun to be had!
There are some oldies in the house..however, there are also some mid and young peeps; a great mix-up.
If you're going out to have a good time, it will absolutely be achieved here.  The people who are complaining just DON'T like "Mexican" bartenders and DON'T like to spend any money!!!  Right?  Yep!

I have been here a couple of times YEARS prior to me revisiting again this past weekend. It was exactly what I remembered it to be... GROWN FOLKS! (I mean REALLY grown)

Nothing says OG more than this club (well French Quaters is probably ultimate OG Nightclub - this takes second to that)...

For one, the bar situation is beyond HORRIBLE!  You're in this RIDICULOUS line - I mean, are we at a club or at Disneyland waiting to get on the Indiana Jones ride??  We ended up going to the bar outside, but even then the wait was long!  I should've just went up to my room to make myself a drink.  I would've provided myself with better service!

Music was TERRIBLE!  I don't even think they had a DJ spinning that night, so they played pre-recored $hit in between the live band.  Hello, if that was the case, then I would've gladly gone into my car and offered to play my CD's - I have better songs to dance to than that mess!

I made the best of it because I was there with a large group of my peeps celebrating our coach's birthday.  Other than being around my kickboxing crew and enjoying their company, this place is a NO GO for me!

The best part was being able to go up a few floors and retire to our room (I'm sooo glad I got a room to escape to) - LIGHTS OUT! =)

This bar sucks!!  I had 30 minutes to kill picking up my lady from San Jose airport. The bartender totally stiffer me on vodka in my White Russian, which he poured in the wrong order to boot.  And a waitress set her tray full of dirty glasses on my table whilst cleaning a nearby table. I guess she figured it was okay cause I was just watching Sports Center. Total lack of customer service acumen on all fronts. I would not come back and would not stay in this hotel if offered a choice. This sort of laxity inevitably starts from the top.

I'm giving three stars because of the live bands who play a lot of good music and the dancing experience. I've always enjoyed Club Max with my group of singles. We always have fun on the dance floor. But it is really not a place to hook-up. Most of the men trying to hit on you are MARRIED! Geez! We just go there to dance and we bring our own partners.

Long line at the bar is not good. Very slow... expensive too.

This place is not good anymore. You have to pay for parking now, before it was free. You could park your car across the hotel for free, but you risk the chance of getting your car towed. There's only one pool table left at Club Max,  before there was two. The DJ music is a joke. There's not too many good looking women in the club when I went recently, but the bartender lady was kinda cute. I think she was a waitress there before. Be sure to get your drinks when everyone is dancing or else you will have to wait in line at the bar. Mixed drinks are $9 each. WARNING: Beware of that stupid Mexican bartender guy.The bartender guy cheated me out of $20.  I gave him $20 for my drink and he basically said that $20 was from another customer. I decided it was not worth it to argue and get thrown out, so I paid him twice. I don't think I will be coming back to this place anymore. Such a shame.

I have been to this club twice recently to dance to, Ryze the Band. If you like Old School, R&B, Soul, Funk and Latin music played and sung by really good musicians who can get the crowd engaged, go listen to Ryze at Club Max. The club itself is pretty average except that there is a lot of seating (comfort), areas that are quiet enough to carry on a conversation (social) and a very diverse crowd (a nice vibe) that tends to be older (but all ages are represented). Parking is free and easy, the hotel atmosphere makes it feel safe and secure (great if you are female), and the crowd is well-behaved. This is a great venue to hear Ryze!

My husband surprised me last night and picked this place. I thought it was a good pick. We got in before 10 so we didn't have to pay a cover charge. We drank before so we only ordered one drink inside. The bar was lower than where you are standing so you have to bend down a little to order a drink which is kinda odd..I think that's my only complaint.  I liked the decor. Red striped walls, Chandeliers everywhere, mirrors, a lot of seating 2 pits, darker corners and nicely lit sections for whatever vibe you are going for. Almost anywhere you sit you have nice view of the dance floor. Saw some pimped out cats...looking fly...lol it was a 30 + crowd with a few youngsters, I said hi to a Lil Wayne looking homie and he said wusssgood...lol The band was ok...they had a 7 piece band. Overall I would definitely go back again.

Could not feel this place at all, I have tried and tried and tried, but it just doesn't work.  My friends seem to love it and always want to go there and I just don't get it.  The live band isn't good, the atmosphere is cheesey, the lines are ridiculous, the service sucks, is slow and the drinks are extremely expensive and weak.

My friend K.  planned his 27th birthday shin dig and Club Max  rep. told him that there was going to be 2 DJ's on Friday night.  There was a live band which was okay. The drinks are expensive and you have to wait in line to order, or you'll be stuck waiting for the waitress forever. The crowd of the people that were there are a much older crowd.

A colleague invited a group of 10 people here for a night out.
It cost $15 to park my car in the hotel lot  (there is no where else to park for free nearby) $12 per person cover charge. Waiting in line for 10-20 minutes for each round of watered down drinks.  There is only two bartenders for 150+ people.  My wife and I put the credit card down when we got there but the bartenders couldn't seem to keep the tab straight. Then they couldn't find the card at the end of the night when I went to settle up. I actually saw the bartender drop a can of Fosters that went rolling across the bar, hide to the side then try to serve it to another guest 2 minutes later. The guy who was being served also saw it happen and called out the bartender for trying to pass off a beer that would surely explode when it was opened.  So what did the bartender do, he contested it, replaced it begrudgingly and put it back in the same spot to pass off to another unsuspecting guest.  There was nowhere in the the hotel to get food after 9:30pm but there was plenty of "cheese" at Club Maxx.  Lots of Arsenio Hall look alikes. The band was pretty decent for a wedding-style cover band. The dance floor is so small and crowded that you have to jockey for a spot to dance, and the rest of the floor is covered in ratty carpet so it's hard to boogie away from the parquet dance floor. I would not recommend this place as a destination for a fun night out in SJ.

Club Max is a nice place. Clean and well kept.
It is a big place. There is 2 pool tables up front, a full bar with 2 or 3 bar tenders, lots of floor level seating and bar tables and two "pits". The pits are up front, close to the dance floor, with seating for around 20 each. It is a wooden dance floor - but not really too big.
Some areas are kind of dark and private.
I've been going there off and on for about 8 years.
It has a $12 per person cover charge. It used to be no cover before 8pm - they changed it (June '09). They typically stop collecting the cover around midnight.
There is a $5 valet parking - if you validate at the club. I aways valet.
The band finishes its last set and the last call is around 1am - they are closed by 1:30am.
Drinks are a little expensive - AMF & LIIT are around $9, wine is around $8 and beer is $7 or $8 (I don't drink beer). The waitresses are nice - but they can get really busy.
Some nights, the place is packed - others, it is practically empty. I haven't figured out the pattern. When its packed, the house is really rockin'.
They have live bands - mostly oldies, jazz & funk. They used to have a Filipino DJ that was pretty good - but he's gone. Now, it is DJ iPOD between live band sets - and Mr. iPOD isn't that great.

It is a big hit with Filipinos. If you are cruzin' for a Filipina, this isn't a bad place to go looking - a big step up from the the Blue Pheasant, but I wish they had the Blue Pheasant DJ at Club Max.

This is downstairs at the Double Tree hotel. There is a pool side bar out side the club, and there is a really good "steak house" restaurant (Morton's I think) a the entrance of the club.

This is a great place to get a room, have a great dinner and go to the club. All without having to leave the hotel. I can't give it more stars because is unpredictable, a little expensive and an older crowd.
