First off, let me say that I am into places like this one. It's extremely Mexican, and I can feel really out of place. But somehow, I have been here more than once.
Why?
Because when it comes down to it, this place can actually be fun. The crowd is nice. The play cool live music. And when the band needs a break, they switch it up to a DJ that is not afraid to play hip-hop and top 40.
Most of the patrons here wear cowboy hats. Some of them rock cowboy hats signed by famous mariachi singers. And they are not afraid to show off their head pieces to the ladies. One guy, approached my friend and said in Spanish (and I understood since I speak serviceable Spanish):
"Hey there. Do you like my hat?"
Wow. What a killer pick up line. It made us all laugh.
In addition, to the cowboy hat wearing (and boots), most of the guys here drink Coronas. You constantly see cocktail waitresses carrying buckets full of 6 Coronas. Let's just say while the waitresses can be cute here, they have the most toned arms of all female serves in the South Bay.
Anyway, I rarely see guys drinking anything outside of Corona. Maybe a tequila shot here and there. But they always drink a lot.
Ironically enough, most of the guys (and women) are super thin. So I guess immigrant Mexicans are thin, but some of their children end up fat, with shaved heads, and in downtown San Jose.
Interesting.
But seriously, the people here are easily more attractive than the beasts you might find in downtown San Jose, in or around Toon's, or other places where the cows graze.
As for their bar, let's just say I am a fan. I like the bartenders. They rock. They always look at me funny when I order a Jack and (diet) Coke. I love that they look at me confused, then start to look around for the bottle and finally spot the Jack. They proceed to pour me a 12-ounce glass of whiskey, like it's milk or something, and then a splash of Coke. And then, they ask for $6. Yes, a whopping $6.
Victory!
Oh yeah, there are a lot of ladies here. If you are from Santa Clara County, you really have to appreciate a watering hole with a good ratio.
So if you want a place with live music, a decent DJ, strong drinks and low prices, and a good male/female ratio, this is the place to go.
My only two knocks on the place is that I have to be in the "mood" to come here. Basically, my English goes out the window and I need get down to that polka music with Spanish lyrics called Mariachi.
And sometimes, the walk home is gross, since everyone is puking up and down the neighboring streets where people park. Maybe that's how they all stay thin?
But hey, this place is worth a shot. Go at least once just for the experience. People watch. It's fun!
If you're lucky, you'll run into a couple of American girls here and there that come here to escape the creepy men of downtown San Jose. They are around. Trust me.
I think the word is getting out on Caribe.
"Caribe, es muy caliente!"
99.9% hispanic crowd. All spanish music. Live band. We got tons of free drinks. Danced all night. Won the 200 dance contest. its a great place to go if u like mexican music....
So first off i am not hispanic and neither is my friend. But one night (on a friday) her and I went with some guy friends that are mexican and let me tell you I had the greatest time. Fridays they have a live band and the cost is only $15. Even though I didnt understand the music I was dancing like i never danced before. Near the end they also have a competition to see which girl can shake their booty the best. So you know my friend and I had to get up there, and did I mention there was a $200 cash prize? Well anyways we ended up not winning cuz the girl that did win showed her ass! But it was a great first time and I will be going back and winning that dancing contest!
