I have been coming to Cloverleaf for years now and it is still my favorite place to get harder to find craft beers. Everyone who works here is great and help with anything you might need.

They can order you anything you want so if they don't have it on the spot, they can order it for you.

    I can't recommend them enough!

I'm a little puzzled by all the five-star reviews here.  Cloverleaf has a better selection than most wine shops in metro Detroit, but my experience there wasn't that impressive. I went looking for a good Chinon for a dinner party.  Unfortunately the one bottle they had wasn't quite right, and when I asked for a recommendation for an alternative, the salesperson seemed unsure. He finally steered me toward a couple other choices, which ended up being just ok.

It's possible I've been spoiled after living for years next to a great wine shop on the east coast.

And maybe I was just unlucky this time.. if the next visit is better I will update my rating.

It has been a long while since I've been in Michigan but when I last made a visit I was searching for quality local craft beer and my super Yelp powers had me driving towards Cloverleaf. To make it brief: excellent experience with very kind, helpful staff and a surprisingly large inventory.

You know Cloverleaf has the right mindset when the entrance is not upstairs, but down. The beer is kept in a literal cellar. Nice.

The isles are a bit cramped and navigation is a little wonky. I ended up squeezing my sizable self into a dead end. But no matter, I was there for beer, not to test my mental GPS skills!

I can't remember the name of the two fellows who were working that day but they were exceedingly patient, kind and helpful. I told them I was literally on my way to the airport to head back to San Diego but I needed some great MI craft beer. After a little bit of quizzing to determine my favorite styles they walked me through the store, pointing out suggestions and listening to my opinions. Just before I was to check out one of the guys dashed to the back and pulled out some beers that weren't even ready for sale because he thought I'd like them. Double bonus.

All in all this is going to be one of my must-visit places any time I'm within a 50 miles. Great store, great people, great knowledge and great selection.

    Cloverleaf is GRRRRRRRREAT!

I love this place.  They have such a wide selection of wines and beers at varying prices too. One of the things I like most is that you can create your own 6-pack of beer. It was fun going through all different kinds of craft beers and picking them out. The staff is incredibly helpful as well. They always ask if I need help every time I am there and are quick to locate things I can't find.

What a gem! Cute store with incredible service. Craft bers galore including Estrella daura gluten free beer. You can mix and match your own 6 pack, perfect if you like to try new things. The wine collection isn't large per say, but it's perfectly stocked with the right wines. Some of my very very favorite reds! Can't go wrong. Excellent prices too including a 5 % off first purchase when you join their loyalty club. Great spot!

From the decor, to the friendly staff, to the amazing wine and beer selection, this place hands down is the only place to buy wine and beer in the area. Tom, one of the wine experts, really knows his stuff and will take his time to help you find the right wine or beer for your palate. And best of all, you can get a spectacular bottle of wine without the huge price tag.

Cloverleaf, encompassing their location, the building itself, the selection, the knowledge and openness of the staff, the pricing and the philosophies driving the business: TREMENDOUS.

I couldn't imagine a better wine vendor. I was completely blown away on my first visit. Instant loyal customer.

For those who might be intimidated by vast selections of dark and mysterious bottles - this is the place to start your journey. Walk right in and start asking questions. You will not be led astray. Nor do you need to spend a fortune to find plenty of wines and beers to love.

I'd give Cloverleaf 10 stars without hesitation. Maybe I'll write a second review just so you can add 'em up.

I am SUCH a fan of Cloverleaf! Excellent service, excellent wine at great prices.

I love that they offer deals on 6 and 12 packs of wine - always carefully selected, and tremendous! I recently bought the griller six pack (around father's day) and was impressed with every wine!

The staff is very knowledgeable - always eager to work within taste and price ranges- but I also like that they have printed reviews/descriptions under each botttle of wine. Also, their e-newlsletter has a witty personal touch, that I enjoy :)

I've yet to buy beer from Cloverleaf, but the selection is incredible! I drive from Plymouth to Royal Oak -- this place is that good! :)

This is a very charming building with great renovations. Its dimly lit basement is a sophisticated setting, away from the distractions of main st.

Even more desirable is the service! They are in no way intimidating to talk with, questions are received politely. Staff is so familiar with stock and educated you don't have to search for very long.

The selection is a wide range of prices with many different varieties. Different deals for buying by the case for parties or gifts. They also have a newsletter you can receive to stay in the loop.

Cloverleaf may not have the biggest selection of wine and beer, they might not have the cheapest prices, but I will always come here first when shopping for either.  Everything they carry is quality, and I think they try most everything they carry.  The staff are beyond knowledgeable about what's on the shelf, and they are more than willing to share that knowledge with you.  And they are there to make sure you get what you will enjoy, not sell you the most expensive bottle of wine or beer.  These guys are great!!!!

Cloverleaf wine--I keep coming back for more.  I began shopping at Cloverleaf at it's previous location in Southfield. The selection was good, the staff really really helpful.  Now that it's in my own backyard (Royal Oak), I'm one happy camper.

You can always count on Tom and his staff to provide advice for food/wine pairing. And you can always count on Cloverleaf to offer up some really cool wine specials--distributor closeouts and new stuff that you can't find anywhere else in the area.  Their prices are always competitive. The selection is "quality" over "quantity".  You can find quality wine for $10, and you can also splurge on a bottle for $50--just depends what you're into.

But don't stop with wine.  The craft beer selection is excellent.  Coolers and shelves of craft brews from Michigan and elsewhere, all available as singles, a six, or a case.  I recently grabbed a mixed case of Michigan summer beer, which was outstanding.  This past winter, I enjoyed the mixed case of Porters and Stouts.

All in all, Cloverleaf is my go-to wine store.

Cloverleaf has been a favorite stop of mine from back when they were on Northwestern Hwy.

If you are the kind of wine drinker that really enjoys getting Santa Margherita on sale at the warehouse, please do not go to Cloverleaf.

If you enjoy putting your Heineken cans in the freezer to get them ice cold before you "pound 'em", please do not go to Cloverleaf.

However, if you like biodynamic wines, grower champagnes, belgian beers & domestic microbrews, please come to Cloverleaf. They also carry some tasty vinegars, oils, spices, etc.

If you have never been to Cloverleaf before and want to try some of the finer things in life, please let these trained professionals guide you through the virtual flavor arsenal that is contained within the brick walls. Sancho gives highest honors to Cloverleaf!

What a wonderful place!  I had a simple mission: buy a bottle of malbec, and then drink this.

I found myself mesmerized by the wide variety of wines and beers, and at the bargains.  And the basement setup was very cool!

When I was wandering around like a lost zombie, I was kindly pointed in the right direction.  And for a little more than $7 I had a bottle of Mendozan wine, and was very happy.  I will definitely make it a habit of stopping by if I'm in the neighborhood or when I'm craving malbec.

I'm on the hunt for some Spaten Oktoberfest, and unfortunately the Cloverleaf is plum out already.

Other than that, I was very impressed. The owner is a super guy, and his beer philosophy is "try everything," which is what the store is designed around. Everyone has had that experience of buying a six pack of strange beer only to find that it was awful, and now you're stuck with 5 more terrible beers. Thankfully the Cloverleaf pricing strategy encourages you to sample the unknown beers, pricing individual bottles as if they were part of a six-pack.

There is a lot of selection, and when he gets in a hot commodity (Kentucky Breakfast Stout I'm looking at you!) he will split up the case and sell it individually at reasonable prices, and doesn't allow a collector/trader to buy up the whole shipment. Awesome.

To me, with wine selection...it's quality versus quantity. I can walk through grocery store's isle after isle of wine and not find anything that I haven't seen/tried before. But this place is different. You won't find any of the mainstream "pop star" wine brands here. So even though you may have no clue what you're looking at...what's great is, the people that work there do know. So really, I cannot stress enough, have them guide you. You won't be sorry.

The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and I haven't had one bad recommendation yet. I'm not one to just purchase the most expensive bottle, assuming it's better. They're the same way with the recommendations. If you tell them your taste, they'll recommend comparable choices across the board. I did tell them that I was willing to pay up to a certain amount and the one he recommended was far below it, which said a lot. He could have taken that and ran with it, been a salesman and just loaded me up with expensive wine but he didn't. He gave me the perfect pairing to our dinner that night and it was really special.

Aside from the stellar wine selection, they also have some select beers. It's a small collection, but a unique one. If sampling unique brews is your thing...you must stop by and mill around. It's like a beer boutique on one end of the cellar. I go and get lost in there, it's like a beer adventure!

Also, one time I came in, after returning from a Germany trip. They didn't have the beer I wanted but they researched it...emailed me and told me how much it would be to order it.  Talk about customer service! They went above and beyond. And for that, they have my loyalty 100%.

OK, so I'm on a roll tonight. Three reviews (one a first) and two comments.
I stopped by Cloverleaf today. Not the biggest selection by any means, but the guys are great. I was looking for a Bordeaux- Graves to be exact. I told them my price range and left. I got a call back within an hour from Tom. He'd found two wines which fit the bill. His final suggestion was actually the lesser expensive of the two. They are also hooking me up with two bottles of Two Hands Bella's Garden Shiraz. Not the place to go if you want a specific wine today, but give them a couple of days and they will get it!

Cloverleaf is hands down my go to spot for wine and craft beer in the Detroit area. From cases to single bottles, there's really no other option out there for quality of product as well as service and value.

The knowledge of Tom and the Cloverleaf team results in a customized experience for each customer and their needs. I can always rely on Cloverleaf to get the job done while teaching me a thing or two at the same time and helping me expand my palate, experience new and interesting varietals, and leave with money to spare. After visiting this store just once you'll realize the years you've wasted in grocery store and party store wine aisles, literally!

They also have really fun tasting events in the store, so I'd recommend  adding them on facebook or checking their website often to stay posted.

Bottom line, Cloverleaf rocks, and it's rumored to be the favorite wine shop of high profile band The Chet Offensive. If that's not reason enough to give it a try, I'm not sure what is!

Let me preface this by saying I am not a wine drinker.  This review is based on their BEER.

I went there for the first time tonight to see if they had any new beers that I had not tried yet even though I was stopping at Holiday Market on my way home.  WOW!  Their beer is incredibly overpriced.

I was going to buy a large Jolly Pumpkin bottle, but it was $13.50 at Cloverleaf.  Instead I got the St. Bernardus Christmas Ale which was $13.00.  I looked at all of the other beers they had too, and everything was more expensive that I normally pay at Holiday.

Sure enough, when I stopped off at Holiday on my way home, I checked to see how much they sold the same beers for.  The St. Bernardus was 10.99, and the Jolly Pumpkin was $8.00!!!!  That is a HUGE difference.  This was the same way with a lot of the beers I browsed.

However, Cloverleaf carries beer that Holiday doesn't.  With that be said, I still don't foresee see myself shopping here again.

Located on Main Street in Royal Oak, down from Oakland Community College this wine shop offers patrons one of the best selections of wine at reasonable prices.

Finding it's home south of the Royal Oak shopping district, Cloverleaf offers a huge selection of wines from France, Spain, California and more. In addition, Cloverleaf sells natural wines, wines new to Michigan, handcrafted beers, and specialty snacks.

The staff at Cloverleaf is not only friendly, but knowledgeable about the regions and producers of a wide variety of the wines they sell. The staff is always prepared to give great recommendations that either match with your price range or Tuesday night's dinner. So, if you're not too wine savvy and need some Shiraz 101 or are looking for a great value, check out Cloverleaf.

After my first visit to Cloverleaf this week, my initial thought was - Why didn't I stop in sooner?

I didn't read all of the other reviews, so forgive me if I repeat what's already been said.

Being separated a bit from the more frequently walked sections of downtown Royal Oak, I can see how many may have never thought to visit Cloverleaf.  If you are a lover of beer or wine- I suggest you walk your butt across the railroad tracks, and venture down into my new favorite shop.
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Terry- who gave us a tour of the lay-out, highlighting where all the different varietals were and explaining how sales of their craft beer works.  (I'll just cover that now - all bottles are priced individually - and not marked up past what they would sell the whole 6-pack to you for.  They are trying to encourage beer lovers to branch out and try something new, with limited liability.  I think it's a great idea.)
He left us to our browsing - but was readily available for questions and suggestions.  I had recently had an amazing Amarone - and while Cloverleaf only had one on the shelf, Terry suggested a wine that is made very similarly that he thought I would like anymore. (Sadly, I am writing this before I tried it - but I will be sure to update my post with the final verdict)
When we were checking out, we learned that Cloverleaf offers a 5% discount on wine to all customers who sign up for their loyalty program (with increasing discounts based on the amount of $ spent annually).  That made their already reasonable prices even better.  Terry also spent some time talking brews with my husband - and offered to look into getting a few he's been looking for.

We had a great experience and will definitely return.  The service here reminds you that you never have to wander through the aisle at a grocery store alone and confused again. :)

If you are looking for all things good in a wine shop, head straight to Cloverleaf.

Although I have been in the food and beverage industry for over 20 years, I still consider my wine knowledge lacking and am intimidated by the world of wine.

I am always on the hunt for a wine shop that has a friendly, helpful and (most importantly!) unpretentious staff. I found my dream wine shop when I walked into Cloverleaf. Tom and the crew can assist with food pairing (important as I am a cook) and are very knowledgeable about regions, varietals and vintages.  In addition to a great selection, they also have a range of price points and many affordable bottles which are hard to find in other shops. As a bonus, they also have a great beer selection, which cuts down on my stops when I am entertaining.

In addition to simply being a relaxed, friendly "hey we all love wine, can't we all just get along" kind of place (as if that wasn't enough!), Cloverleaf is always running case specials and has an awesome customer loyalty program.

Get to know the folks at Cloverleaf- they won't disappoint, and neither will the wine.....

Love this place. Cool location, lots of selection but not overwhelming.

First, no egos here.......Tom and his staff are as down to earth as they come, and are true experts in their field. They will happily recommend a great bottle at any price point, and specialize in "off the beaten path" varietals. They have also greatly expanded their craft beer selections too. Either wine or beer, you are guaranteed to find something new that you'll enjoy.

Second, get on their e mail list....they advertise great specials, and host really cool wine/beer tasting events regularly.

Last, local rockers The Chet Offensive rehearse in the space upstairs. You may experience some free/live rock n roll while you shop...

cloverleaf is a new wine store located in downstairs of the st. clair edison building at the south end of main street (right next to the shell station). the wine store fits great into the basement of the old building that used to house generators that powered street cars on woodward over 100 years ago. there are still 3" holes in the brick downstairs that used to have massive electrical cables running thru it, and all the way to woodward. the basement is a perfect fit for a wine store and gives it a great wine cellar feel.
give it a shot... the cloverleaf is notorious for finding great wines at inexpensive prices. so you can get a $22 tasting bottle for $10... and isn't that what wine is all about?

I love this place the guys that run it are very friendly and laid back.  I enjoy wine, but am by no means any kind of expert.  They are great at suggesting things that I will like and I can always find something at a reasonable price.  This place is all class and no snobbery.  And in addition to their great selection of wine they also have a really cool beer room with a great selection of micro brews.

Wow- just walked in to this place. Such a great and cool place. I know beer quite well but a wine novice- they spent a lot of time helping me. Great selection of wine. Also, what a cool building.

Great selection, knowledgeable staff.  Can find many white-collar wines at blue-collar prices.  Wish they carried more Gewurtztraminers, but that's my only complaint.

Great little wine shop! Very friendly unpretentious staff. Love the "Great wines for under $15 rack."
