Heavy dew point didn't deter me from spending quiet time here this morning. "Santa Monica is home to more than 20 public parks, and each one is unique." http://www.santamonica... Especially Clover Park with its meticulously maintained grounds and tranquil footpaths http://www.yelp.com/bi....
Neighbor to Santa Monica Airport (formerly known as Clover Field, after WWI pilot, Greayer "Grubby" Clover) an aviation theme resounds! From the "control tower" http://www.yelp.com/bi... you can view one of two children's playgrounds and the basketball court http://www.yelp.com/bi.... Panning, survey this 18-acre open space to find, a baseball diamond, two soccer fields, two softball fields, two tennis courts all lighted for evening activities, and a sand volleyball court. If you squint real hard you might even see this http://www.yelp.com/bi....
Take advantage of the upgraded 15-station par course http://www.yelp.com/bi....
Picnic at one of the 16 BBQs (group barbeque area can be reserved). http://www.yelp.com/bi....

The Clover Park is nicely located on a main boulevard yet not a super congested one. There is plenty of parking in their lot and some street parking, but beware of permit-only areas. I especially love attending this park for the Santa Monica Festival. There are many events happening that day; vendors, food, live music, fashion shows. It's great!
I usually take the Big Blue Bus which stops directly in front of the park and this line is rarely packed.
The park has a sand playground for kids. There is also a comet-like structure that can be fun to climb. There are also benches and grilling pits. I love having a picnic here. It's clean, safe and there are trees for shade.

This is my local park and I'm really glad it's here. The area doesn't have many parks, but this one is one of the best.

You can't tell from the street, but this park is HUGE, and goes back two blocks. Includes a playground, soccer field, 3 baseball diamonds, volleyball court, 2 tennis courts, and one basketball court, along with BBQs scattered everywhere. It also has a fitness course around the perimeter and good running sidewalks.

Very well maintained, and with clean restrooms. On the weekends, they sometimes host art fairs or other events. If you want to have a big group BBQ, get there EARLY..... the big picnic areas are in high demand and some people do stakeouts beginning at 5 or 6AM to save them. I've been involved in one, and have gotten many, many, dirty looks or people waiting for me to step away.

It's very family friendly, dog friendly, and full of people of all ages. I wish the lights would stay on longer, and last summer, the lights on one of the tennis courts went unrepaired for months, but overall it's a great park and I'm happy to be so close by.

    Awake? Check.
    Saturday? Check (yay!).
Sun out with minimal clouds? Check.
In need to clear my mind from the work-week cobwebs and get some fresh air? Triple-Double Super Check.

Learned of Clover Park after reading about it in the SaMo community newsletter. I was pleasantly surprised to learn of its existence as I've been living in Santa Monica for almost a year now. Up to now I had been using the beach as my outdoor exercise zone but it is definitely far from my place and on occasions I've developed hives after running along the sand for some strange reason.

Clover Park is literally right next to the SaMo airport. I was pleasantly surprised to see the runway and planes while running the perimeter. I also took advantage of the perimeter work out zones; I've basically decided to use them as my outdoor gym (no need to pay $75/month at Spectrum Health Club). There are parallel bars, vertical ladders, chin up bars, even a climbing rope! The park is also super clean and filled with families. It's 100% nicer than Westwood Park near UCLA where I used to run.

If you're ever running perimeter at Clover I hope we'll pass one another and be able to share the experience of a beautiful, well-maintained park in the middle of busy Los Angeles!

Great park with something for everyone. I organized a company BBQ here, and it was perfect.

    1) It's HUGE so there's always plenty of room.
    2) It has well-spaced PICNIC TABLES and BBQ's all over.
    3) There's basketball courts.
    4) There's a great children's playground, swings, metal tower to climb, etc.
    5) There's a dedicated lot (2 hours free weekdays, limitless weekends) and plenty of street PARKING.
    6) They have nice restrooms, in case you want to have an event here and are taking that into account.

    RESERVING BBQ's/TABLES:
The picnic tables are first-come, first-serve, except for the four main tables in the middle of the park. Those can be reserved through the city of Santa Monica, and will be $50 or $75, depending on whether you're a resident. However, that reservations lasts only until 3pm, so if someone else is waiting, you'd have to give up your spot. That didn't make sense to me, so I just came around 9am to grab one of the other tables, which worked out perfectly for my event.

If you're planning to have a band play, you theoretically don't need a permit. However, you have to be careful not to point speakers towards the residential side of the park, and you might not be allowed to have loud percussion.

After getting lunch at the Counter, we decided to take a stroll and to go play volleyball at Clover Park. I've seen this park many times on my way to the gym and have always wanted to visit.

This park is really cute. So many things to see and do. Lots of playground area for kids, volleyball net, baseball field, a command center, and etc etc. This is the kind of park I can see taking my (future) kids to. They have these fitness stations scattered around the parameter of the park. It was fun trying all of them. The park was amazing. Very well-maintained and fun!

On those sunny weekend afternoons when I feel the urge, I run past 24 Hour and continue a pit further down Ocean Park until I reach Clover Park.

I'm a huge fan of their fitness stations and the circular path surrounding the fields.  It can get a bit crowded during the peak season, but watching the boot camps taking place or the kids laughing on the playgrounds will bring a smile to your face.  Just avoid the football parents -- they tend to be a bit feisty.

    Review for 9/5/2010:

I went there for an art show. I like this park. It is spacious. My kids like the playground and the tower. It has enough space for larger gatherings and space for soccer and basketball and even volleyball. I really like the bike paths for the kids and the path even has arrows to direct traffic in one direction.

Hubby feels that he still likes Douglas Park better since it is closer to our house.

It appeared as though almost the entire neighborhood was in this park last Sunday. And that indicates how well the park is serving its community.  In that regard, Clover Park comes as close to perfection as any I've seen along the park circuit.

Clover covers 13-1/2 acres, with amenities everywhere you turn.  There's a fitness course with 12 stations along the walking path.  There's a baseball field plus 2 fields for soccer, a basketball court, 2 tennis courts, and a pristine sand volleyball court (see photo).  There are picnic areas with cooking facilities, and....perhaps the piece de resistance of the space:  the kids' tower.
My gawd, kids were all over inside that thing, like ants on an anthill.  It was remarkable. The tower is tall, but it appeared that there was no way for kiddies to fall out.  I stood and watched in wonder for about 10 minutes.

The entire park was mobbed, in fact.  Parties were in progress at the picnic areas and almost all the sports facilities were in use, except the very cool sand volleyball court.

Other characteristics of a perfect park include big shade trees, easy parking, and views.....and Clover Park has all of those.  The views are of distant hills to the south, as well as a great view of the action at Santa Monica airport.  I love to watch planes taking off, and you got that here.

Clover Park is a much-appreciated & popular spot for locals and it's very easy to understand why.

I play pick up basketball here all the time and can't rave enough about my experience. I'm deducting a star for the difficulty of parking, but the quality of games, lights (under rated quality in a park), and cleanliness all score big.

    Games usually start around

This is a nice park with all of the amenities. There is a large grass area for people to lay out on or let your dog run around on. The children's area is large and offers high quality equipment to play on, including a large tower structure that kids climb in and on and love. There is a baseball field, basketball court, and plenty of picnic areas. You must get there early to reserve one though as they are first come first serve and people tend to camp out there all day.

Parking is easy as there is a large lot. There is also street parking surrounding the park. A nice park in a nice area, what more can I say!

I have a 2 year old boy who has got to get out of our apartment on weekends. Thankfully, we live by a few parks. But Clover Park is by far my favorite. They don't have all the jungly-gym type things that the Sepulveda Park has, and they don't have a water feature the kids can jump through like the Douglas park on Wilshire has, but it's very large, never overcrowded, and you can watch planes take off and land from the santa monica airport.

Kieran loves planes. And he loves to play in the sand box and push his red wagon around as well. It's great to always see people out having BBQ's, playing frisbee or soccer, and during the right season you can watch little league. The people that come here don't seem to give off the snooty or I've-got-money vibe as they do at Douglas Park.

And did I mention the planes? Planes go UP! Go UP!

Yeah for the park!  It's great to have a spot like this in the neighborhood.  Clover Park offers a great playground for the kids, and plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy.  While the planes coming in and out of SM airport may cause a slight distraction in your visit, the space here offers a great spot for picnics, a morning walk or run, a game of tennis if you're so inclined or game of b-ball, or soccer.

One detractor...and it's not the fault of the park...as Venice continues to push back and push out it's homeless residents, Santa Monica continues to receive a disproportionate share of disadvantaged folks.  Because of Santa Monica's welcoming attitude, which I most often grateful for, Clover Park has started to become a favorite napping place for those without a permanent residence.

This park is amazing, well-maintained with a lot of wide, open space (despite being tucked between the business district and Santa Monica Airport!). Came here with some friends to play a quick soccer scrimmage and we found plenty of space to play. The grass is in good shape and we easily could have found two or three other spots to play in.

As far as other amenities go, they look very well-kept; the basketball courts, sand volleyball pit and baseball diamonds all looked great. There is also a little bicycle path running across the park for the little ones to ride their trikes and scooters on.

All in all, a great place.

Of all the Parks in Santa Monica I think this is one of the BEST! It has everything!

    -Baseball diamond
    -Tennis Court
    -Basketball court
    -Multiple Play areas for children
    -Mommies exercising
    -Kids playing soccer
    -BBQ's galore
    -Plenty of parking
-People napping or reading a book
-Planes taking off and landing nearby

It's a large park yet it still manages to maintain a small neighborhood feel.

I had a wonderful and healthy morning jog here to start off my weekend in LA on Friday morning! I even tried to do some situps and pushups on the equipment that is provided in the park. The people there were friendly and happy. I suppose it's impossible to be unhappy when it's 75 degrees out in Santa Monica! What a joy to be able to enjoy the park because it was 2 blocks away from my friend's house. Sweet!

I play Soccer here every Tuesday (and sometimes Wednesday).  It's great that I can play Soccer in a park and not have too much of a worry or having to pay.  Finding a game can be tricky but there are usually a bunch of schmos looking to get something going.  If there are d-bags playing baseball though, then you are fucked...because it's not fun having balls flying at your head while you are playing soccer....actually, balls flying at your head anytime is a bummer.  The field is a bit patchy and a mate of mine busted his ankle last night, bummer.  Dirt to Grass to Dirt is not fun...the ball rolls haywire and you can't do much.  There are 2 gigantic fields, basketball courts, and lots of other park shit, so its all good.  Also, i have see any homeless dudes looking to rumble so that is good.  Yay soccer.

4 out of 5 because it's not perfect, but its as close to it as it can be.

I guess it depends on what you're using the park for, but I was here to play some baseball and it just didn't do it.  Too limited amount of space dedicated for that sort of thing.  I'm also told that the people who run the field permit system here are absolute jerks, so that's no good.

Lots of playground space and grassy area though, which makes me think it's good for just about anything else; playing on the playground, mindlessly running around, picnicking, etc.

Great park! Lots to do, lots of open spaces, great playground!
There is a paved circuit that goes around the park that works great for biking, running, skating or walking. The workout stations along the trail are a great addition.
Park rangers are cordial an not intrusive (as opposed to Beverly Hills park rangers that are rude and just plain annoying, always in your face!!!)
It is not the closest to my house but the park is well worth the extra miles.

This is a really simple park that ought not be as appealing as it actually is.  I can't really put my finger on what, exactly, works so well about this outdoor space.  The park backs into the airport runway, and it's also bounded by a major thoroughfare (Ocean Park Blvd.) and a giant office complex.  Still, the wide open playing fields, on multiple depth levels, and the generous playground space that attracts a swarm of nannies and youngsters, serves to give the place a pleasant warmth that feels nice to lounge around in.
