Perfect locals cafe. You must try the coconut bread with the cloud city roast. Simply perfect for a breakfast.
Very friendly, cheap and quick. It's everything you need in a neighborhood cafe.
This is an awesome coffee shop.
They make most 90% of their pastries and food in- house. Their coffee is tasty. The space is cool; large and lots of room to hang. And they have a massive patio with lots of tables and huge umbrellas.
Plus, it smells like bacon in here. Maple Bacon.
They make it for their BLTs.
Do you really need any more reason to get your a** over here for a jolt and some grub? If you're answer is yes, than you've got a problem.
I'll definitely be back.
I love this place--casual, friendly, laidback, walking distance from my house, wonderful homemade pastries, $1 coffee..did I mention the pastries? ??!!
The thing I like about this place is that you can order zuccini bread or a blueberry muffin, and it won't be what you expect; it'll be better! They'll throw berries into the bread or cinamon on the muffin..something pleasant yet unexpected! I also enjoy that they have a variety of items everyday. It just tends to be whatever the chef feels like making. Although my sweet tooth is usually full force when I'm here, I have tried some of their lunch and breakfasts sandwiches--all very tasty!
It can get a bit crowded on weekends and during the prime morning hours, but it's just a sign of good business for this local neighborhood joint!
I am only commenting on their ambiance.
I am sure it's cozy for some people. It is LOUD, like a pub. I wouldn't read anything there and I don't think I can have a conversation with a friend without yelling at each other unless you sit under the umbrella outside and be right in front of the parking area.
Parking is another problem, you can probably find street parking -- circle around the block a couple of times, or if you are lucky, you can find a spot in front of the shop, which isn't that big.
Love this place! Great food, great coffee and great people! Overall Awesome!
Wow, why can't SF coffee shops be like this?
I had a Mocha which was delicious. Also I had an organic bagel with egg, cheese and ham which was perfect. They even toasted the bagel with those fancy panini things so it was nice and tight and warm all throughout. The coffee and the food only start to make this place. They have great outdoor seating and also a kids room where families can take their kids to play. The atmosphere here is great, one of the best I've been to in Seattle. Just do it.. :)
This is a fun coffee shop. I think my favorite so far, since moving to Seattle.
I first visited this weekend, with a group of fellow knitters that often frequent the place. The ladies I sat with complimented the staff on numerous occasions for their ability to remember their favorite drink and their kindness.
I was really happy to see that they offered an option other than Morning Glory chai, so I orderd an Oregon chai latte. (Sorry Seattlites, I have tried Morning Glory chai many times, but I'm just not a fan.) They also offer a large selection of various baked goods (quiche, cookies, muffins, etc...all delicious looking!) and $1 coffee.
The atmosphere was fun, the patrons were diverse, and the music was great. I'll be back again soon.
I am embarressed I forgot his lovely place.
My friend introduced me here. He goes regularly.
I have stopped by a few times.
Small, friendly. Easy feeling. Delicious soups. I didn't really like my quiche - oops! Wait I rarely like quiche! Why did I get it? Well, i thad broccoli in it. I goofed - give me a 1 star and them the 5.
One waiter was almost hysterically funny with his wpord emphasis.. he will never remember our short discussio, yet I can see him still to this day. It makes me smile. I like people who are fun and have good wit,.
Cloud City is awesome! I went after work today to meet a friend. She suggested it - I have never been before. They had all of the walls/windows up, so that the space was open air. I had some scrumptious passion fruit cheesecake.I had no idea there was such a thing, but its deeelish! Also a tasty Highland Chai iced tea. Yum!
The music was great, and the baristas were really nice, making suggestions and giving me time to decide.
I did not try it today, but they have $1 tea and coffee.
Also, I saw a girl leave here with a soft serve cone w/sprinkles! If that does not merit 5 stars for a coffee shop, I don't know what could.
Also, they took my American Express, woot!
The most popular of three coffee shops in central Maple Leaf. The brew is fine, and the home-baked goodies are good, if not spectacular. I don't purchase drip coffee, but I can see how the honor drip is appreciated. However, Cloud City gets pretty crowded, especially on the weekends. Not the most relaxing atmosphere.
The coconut bread is amazing, my wife and I come back here simply for that. We suck down the subpar espresso just for the coconut bread. They used to have decent 1$ Drip Coffee and pretty decent espresso drinks, and then they changed beans. The new brand is not very good and the quality of the drinks has slipped because of it. Looking for good baked goods this is your place, looking for good coffee better try somewhere else, such as Allegra or Vivaci. Also their political views are a little too loud, not verbally but in every other way, which while I am enjoying my coconut bread, its just not necessary to have to look at hundreds of political posters telling me how to think and what to support. But all in all good local bakery with average to below average coffee.
Yes, I love supporting my local coffee shop. I'm happy to use my punch card, too. My student thought it was a bit too loud to do our work, but that aside, its a nice well run coffee joint with a pleasant staff and a nice community feeling.
I agree its sometimes hard to find parking, but Ive never had a terrible time finding it. During certain times of the day it can get busy.
The kid's area is nice for the wee ones.
Ive had their quiche and thought it was pretty good. I picked out all of the green peppers though. (Really it's me,not you Cloud City).
Some people like green peppers, some people like liver, some people like...........
Cloud City IS as good as it gets. I can easily say that I have ate more of their food than anyone, except for possibly the baker(s).
Anyone who has anything to say about it being noisy or filled with kids is most likely not familiar with the Maple Leaf neighborhood.
So yeah, Cloud City is the best daycare in the North side.
Aw, I loved this place!! I'm sure anyone would think a righteous bitch such as myself should not be starting a coffeehouse review with an "aw," but to hell with the haters, I can't help myself!! This place is effin' adorable, as is its staff, its signage, and the coffee is excellent.
Besides perfectly prepared coffee, you get it with a smile and not an ounce of 'tude. I mean, I certainly don't mind 'tude, if its served alongside a masterfully poured latte, but it's nice when you don't have to get it!
Highly recommended.
Pros:
$1 drip coffee SELF SERVE. This is really the best part of this place.
Kids corner with toys
Awesome outside area
Free WiFi (wireless internet)
Good food, including Mighty O donuts
$1 drip and free WiFi. Had to be mentioned twice
Cons:
Hard to park!!! Seriously, its always crowded.
Coffee could be better, but for morning coffee its fine.
I stopped in here early and added a piece of the most amazing Chocolate cake for take out with my coffee order. It was the first slice cut. I am usually not a big cake fan but it was calling out to me. I had it boxed up to save and snack on throughout the day. It didn't make it home. I mascaraed the poor defenseless cake. All that ran through my mind as I was driving home was CLOSER. It began with the Nine Inch Nails song. It was sitting in a box on the passenger side seat and I could smell it.
I want to eat you like an animal
I want to feel you on my insides
I want to eat you like an animal
My whole diet is flawed
You get me closer to God
Then as I stopped at a light and opened the box I pulled out the plastic fork I little bite and then Neyo's Closer was playing in my head.
And I just cant pull my self away
under its spell I cant break
I just cant stop
and I just cant bring my self away
but I don't want to escape
I just cant stop
I can feel it on my lips
I can taste it on my tongue
Its the sweetest taste of sin
The more I get the more I want
It wants to own me
Come closer
I just cant stop
I had to force myself to eat slow. Can't do the Heimlich in a car.
I usually enjoy the slow building until you cant take it anymore but the temptation was overwhelming.

Cloud City is my favorite coffee shop. It's not the best coffee I've ever had in my life, but the coffee is solidly good, the pastries are great, the breakfast burritos are solid and cheap!! The best part about it is that you can run in quickly and get a $1 self-serve cup in your pajamas if you just need coffee, but if you want to stay, there is ample seating, free wifi, and a variety of food/drink options. The $1 iced coffee is my current summer pick-me-up. Yum.
I LOVE Cloud City Coffee. Great coffee, great pastries, yummy sandwiches. Sometimes I don't really want anything but I find myself walking in their for a little pick-me-up via the awesome vibe that comes together from the cool and friendly staff, the average neighborhood Joe's hanging out and the overall laidback feeling of the decor. Sit inside or out and you'll bask in the unpretentiousness of it all.
When I was in Seattle looking for a place to live, I stopped by Cloud City Coffee... and instantly made it a de-facto "base of operations" for shopping for rentals. Its cozy atmosphere and delicious food was part of why I fell in love with the neighborhood surrounding it, and while you may be like "well that's great and all, but HOW IS THE FOOD" relax, I'm getting to that.
The coffee - how does a big cup of good brew for 91 cents sound? Same for tea. Also, the best chai ever - either spicy or sweet (go for sweet!). About a HOJILLION types of quiche - all of them delicious - soups that are warm and tasty (and pretty much always with a vegan/vegetarian option!), and coconut bread that's like eating a sweet slice of cloud sprinkled with unicorn giggles. Big soft couches, tables ideal for laptops, and a bright, cheery atmosphere.
...So it's not as fun when it's crowded, which is frequently, or when there are kids there (LOUD LITTLE MONSTERS) which is often, as the place is pretty kid-friendly. But if you get a good seat, hold onto it like it's the last spot on the last chopper out of Saigon, and get yourself a quiche and some coffee, and nom on some coconut bread and tell yourself calories are imaginary, and probably made up by a wizard or something.
GOD I wish this place didn't close at 6 PM. But if you can make it, GO.
I live close and walk here all the time. The lines are long, the place is always packed, but the people are nice and the food and coffee is good. I sat here with my laptop one day before our internet was hooked up and oh-my-god the place never slows down. Good luck finding a seat, especially if there is more than one person in your party. You will have to be a lurky seat stalker to score anything most times.
If you don't like kids, don't bother trying to hang out here. The area for kids and their parents is always packed and extremely noisy--sometimes beyond your normal kid noise. Some days it looks more like a giant playdate space that happens to serve coffee.
If I didn't live so close, I'd probably choose to get coffee elsewhere, mostly because of the fact that it's always a little crazy, but it is seriously close.
We go here every Monday morning for coffee and catch up with a friend. The $1 drip is our usual, but when I've got a sore throat I go for the loose leaf tea, which comes in a silver pot, complete with pretty cup and tray.
It's bustling, and there are children. Don't come here to conduct a conference call, but reading the newspaper should work out well.
The only problem with spending time in the shop is that it's a little cold with the garage door cracked open.
Wow, how trite. Typical "Seattle Freeze", "Holier Than Thou" attitudes. I had the nerve to be a first time customer and they treated me like an idiot because I didn't know that they have two kinds of breakfast burrito or that you fill up your drip coffee on the other side of the cafe. They gave me some steamed, limp excuse for a burrito and later when I finished the mediocre crap I looked around at several other "regulars" (I would assume) and they had burritos that had been grilled to perfection. Perhaps I was supposed to request this but I did say I had never been there before so they should have told me that I have that option. The dude that worked there was a dork with some Flock of Seagulls hairdo who probably grew up in Monroe and is getting a huge chub that he is a city-guy now.
The only good thing is good drip coffee for a dollar. I ended up leaving to find a different place I was so turned off and found a wonderful place in The Blue Saucer down the street.
Amazing place, great local community vibe, good local eats and coffee. An all around great local Seattle business and coffee house. Just wish it wasn't so far from my hood in West Seattle.
It's a wonderful Thursday afternoon :)
I'm here right now on a nice sunny day sippin on my iced americano & eating their house special coconut bread!
Located in quaint Maple Leaf- available parking, outdoor & indoor seating. Self serve coffee & tea ($1 in the jar does it). AND they have self serve iced coffee available. LOVE LOVE.
Looks like all their baked items & sandwiches are made from scratch~ oo, they have a bbq sandwich...as you can tell my eyes are darting scoping out this place as I type.
Def. a neighborhood hot spot. I spy will my little eyes locals with laptops enjoying their free wifi. Shoot, I sure am! :)
This is a great "local flavor" coffee shop. I'm a bit biased b/c one of the owners was a co-worker back when she had a regular boring job with me in the world of software. I've gone in a few times over the years to see how her coffee shop is going, and it's ALWAYS packed, and from the reviews here, you can tell Yelp HEARTS this place! GOOD JOB JILL!
The food IS really good here, not the boring usual fare at one of the large mega-coffee chains. There's a very thoughtful kids hang-out area, off to one side so as to not be intrusive to those wanting more adult time. Outdoor seating allows for one to take the warm sun as well as hot java.
NOM nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom!!!!!!!
Lets just say, i want to marry whoever makes the coffee cake... cause its THAT GOOD! The coffee is strong and comes out quickly. If you simply want drip, theres a self serve table with an honor code "drop a dollah" tub for your cash (a DOLLAR for an olympic sized swimming pool cup of drip makes me mighty happy when Im on my way to school).
And when its hot enough out to merit buying ice cream, you can buy soft serve with fresh shots poured over it. Ask for a pump of chocolate with it, and youd be better off than the White rabbit on time for an important date. There is a parking lot, which can be awkward to get into/a tight squeeze at times, but theres enough on street parking a block away in any direction that if the lots full, there isnt much of an issue. Groups... keep it under three or four, because there isnt too much room inside. Especially if the coffee mommies bring in their strollers.
The atmosphere, coffee, and staff are more than adequate. That being said, it wouldn't matter if those elements trumped adequate and were literally orgasmic...no one is going to stray from their neighborhood espresso fix simply because Cloud City coffee may be orgasmic.
I use to believe the previous statement until fate changed my life.
I don't live near the typically white-bread, hyper literate, annoyingly hybrid fueled neighborhood of Seattle that is Maple Leaf. About 6 months ago however, me and two other cons broke out of Monroe. I had already done a nickel on my dime but no way was I gonna let that place get the best of my early forties.
I hitched a series of rides to the Reservoir tavern in Maple leaf to find my ex girlfriend because she owed me 15 bucks. As luck would have it, Roshelle, her bangs all teased up and frosted, just the way they were when we first met when I was 27 and I took her to her 7th grade prom, was indeed hanging out and sitting on her usual bar stool. Well not only did she have my 15 bucks, she had just won an additional $150.00 on pull tabs. Between that and the $9.75 I got from all the drivers I shived we had the wickedest Icehouse nite on record.
I woke up the next morning outside, in front of Cloud City Coffee. $3.25 in my pocket, missing an eyebrow and clutching an empty tall boy of Icehouse light. I was being gently jabbed in the ribs by a young man who was obviously an employee of Cloud City. He was wearing a rolling stones logo shirt, cowboy boots and had a dirty blond mane reminiscent of so many dudes I'd done time with.. Couldn't place his race, not Asian, maybe a little native but with light features.
"Hey man, you can't sleep here." He said. I went for my shiv but must have lost it in the haze that was the night before because all I produced from my pocket was an eight track tape of Black and Blue by the Rolling Stones. "Wow!" he said. "Memory Motel is a great tune and I love the way that Keith looks like he's getting ready to puke on the album cover."
He invited me in for a latte with what can only be described as a come hither look in his eyes. Not a gay come hither look, mind you, but he had my attention. I told him my story and he told me "fat, drunk, and stupid, is no way to go through life." He sent me off with a latte that was so good I came in my pants.
Two weeks later I got picked up by the cops at a Money Tree after getting into a dispute with the clerk. I pulled a gun on him after he declined to cash a second party employee check from Arby's food LLC that I found on the sidewalk. It was made out to a Carmen Gonzales.
So I'm back at Monroe. They tacked on an additional 6 years to the 5 years I already had remaining. I'm not sweating it though. Every time the the brothers or the skinheads or the spics have me bent over and are just pounding my anus like Sherman going through Georgia, I close my eyes and think to myself about that barista and that Latte.
I got 10 years and 6 months to go and I can honestly say I consider myself the luckiest man on the face earth!
I like this place. I like the coffee, I like the bakery (although I don't think they make that there), and I like the neighborhood feel. The people are very friendly and down to earth unlike some 'stuck-up' places I've been too. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
Hands down, best coffee shop in Seattle. Great coffee, great atmosphere (if you can handle a lot of kids and strollers on the weekends), and super friendly staff. Good rotation of art around the place, and really good homemade pastries. And, if you're into the whole quick breakfast thing, there's nothing better than their burritos. I just wish I still lived in Seattle
Decent coffee with decent access to power outlets. Excellent place for this WiFi vulture and for anyone else who likes to hang out. There are windows -- more specifically former garage doors -- all along their east and south walls, so the space is great for irritable people in serious need of light therapy.
Pros:
- Parking lot
- Outdoor seating
-Good selection of food
- Kid friendly
Cons:
- Kid friendly--watch your step while the little ones run around
- Can get noisy, but hey it's a public space.
WiFi Stats:
- 1070 Kbps (Saturday 10 AM)
- Free, open access
I moved about a year ago to the Maple Leaf neighborhood, having friends in the area and being familiar with it. I immediately found Cloud City a part of my regular routine. Really good coffee, sometimes kept simple w/ self-serve drip or getting some latte derivative. I love the attention to the little details like foam in a fun design in your coffee.
So coffee is great, what about the edibles? It seems like all the nice pastries are made fresh on site, not shipped in, and everything has a homemade vibe to it. My favorites include the egg and cheese english muffin, quiches, and their grilled sandwiches. Haven't had the potato burrito myself yet, but a friend loves them.
I love this place not just for the drink and food, but for comfortable feeling I have here. Whether meeting a friend to sit and catch up, or for some time alone with a book, it feels like a home away from home.
My friends in England tell me about Pub Culture, a place where people in the neighborhood congregate, like a communal living room. While some aspects of that phenomenon are uniquely British, the friendliness and neighborhood feel to Cloud City is about as close as I've felt.
"Enjoying my coffee." Walter Sobchack
-My favorite coffee shop.
-Good coffee, nice atmosphere, staff are always friendly and the music is usually pretty good.
-Free wifi
-breakfast burritos are tasty. Sandwiches are big.
-daily selection of different quiches (never had one) and pastries too.
-I wish they would stay open a little later in the evenings.
-has outdoor tables.
I particularly enjoy sitting outside shirt-less while lightly rubbing my belly and periodically shouting, "I'm caffeinated!"
I love this place. It's near from where I'm staying and I love to take a short walk and gorge myself on 20 oz. of delicious coffee. Which, by the way, is very good.
The food is so-so, but I like the atmosphere, so here go my five stars. :-)
Cloud City is a typical funky neighborhood coffee shop. It has lightly used couches, tatttoo covered baristas, a few middle aged professionals pecking at their laptops (what are they writing? a novel, a business plan, or ??), and servicable coffee. I go because it is in my 'hood and I can walk there.
The $1 drip is a really good idea, particularly since you can drop the money in a jar and avoid the line. I also like the self-serve oatmeal. My only real criticsm of the place is that the scones (while large) can leave a bit to be desired. They can be a little dry sometimes. But that won't stop me from going there... oh no. They could serve scones made out of Qwik-Crete and I'd still prefer Cloud City over ANY Starbucks.
This is a fabulous local hang out for families with kids (they have a play area) as well as for groups or to meet up with friends. The food is very good. I appreciate their breakfest burritos and yogurt and fruit parfaits. The coffee is fantastic.
They have indoor and outdoor sitting and just is a great friendly neighborhood coffee shop.
I recently went to see Patton Oswalt make fun of Seattle. He said that there's no other city where you could get away with paying for things with a poem and a smile.
It's pretty much true here.
They have a $4 minimum on debit cards, just so you know. BUT, if they see you regularly, you can do an IOU. You don't even NEED poem! But a smile helps (and if you come back and pay for your shit eventually).
The parking is funny. It usually looks crowded because the lot is so small, but I magically get a spot two steps away every time. Just watch out for the Roosevelt traffic when you pull out!
The Cloud City people are fantastic. I love walking in to the little jangle of the front door bell and seeing the regulars with their little hip babies and dogs. Besides, who doesn't want to be greeted every morning with a Big Lebowski quote, which is pasted to the front door window. Stuff like that just makes you feel like you're really in a place you belong.
The coffee is excellent and always served quickly and to order. I recommend the $1 brew with some coconut bread: it's excellent. They have a great selection of juices, desserts (cookies and cake) lunch items (sandwiches mostly), and breakfasts (breakfast sandwiches, breads, oatmeal, scones and pastries).
Love the brew and those big umbrellas outside with the sun rising.
Can't beat $1 drip coffee. I also love their corn muffins, but they're often undercooked in the middle. Same with their scones. But when they're good, they're great. They also serve Top Pot doughnuts... Yum!!!
The hippy factor is a little high in this place. It's a good place for me to walk to from my house, grab breakfast, and then get on my way. The pushy granola's pack this place on the weekends. Not my favorite element, but they seem to be having a blast.
It's also really kid friendly, but a little too much to my liking. It's practically a daycare at times.
The free wi-fi is a huge bunus if I want to get some work done in the middle of the day... But good luck finding a wall outlet.
Excellent coffee, and very good in-house baked goods. Staff is young and on the Seattle-Alternative side. Its located in a family-oriented neighborhood so parents and kids are the norm; not necessarily the best place to hang out if you want to study. Only complaint is with the bookkeeping - I've learned to only use cash as they very often double-charge your card when you include a tip on the receipt.
My hubby and I walk to this cafe with our dog in the morning on weekends. We both have complicated order for our coffees but they remember them and serve us. I like their croissant with Nutella the best :) I highly recommend this place! I love this small neighborhood joint.
I would move to maple leaf just so I could call this my neighborhood cafe. The coffee is good. There is a nice spirit about the place.
