12 reviews for Clothingline - SSS Sample Sales
I once bought a pair of J.Crew leather boots here for $99 when they were still being sold on the website for $298.
That said, this place is just like any other sample sale space: on the bad days you'll walk away with nothing to add to to your look but bruises from encounters with your fellow shoppers.
These sample sales are pretty good = ) They are strict about having friends cut the line...do not have someone join you if they are watching, you will be kicked off!
Other than that, Tory Burch sale was crazy - I arrived 2 hrs. beofre open time and I managed to get in, there was a line for shoes but the prices were all great.
I am a petite girl so most sizes are 6,8,10 + not many 0,2,4 sizes. I also went to Jcrew - all the clothes either had holes or were written in a sharpie "SAMPLE" which sucked because they were really nice clothes. However, I managed to buy 2 dresses and sent them to the tailor to have the wholes fixed and they are gorgeous (never went into production samples).
Overall good buys but can be difficult to find small sizes!
I hesitated to add to Clothingline's reviews because I LIKE the fact that not too many folks know about it.
I've been to their Theory and a few other sample sales and was very pleased with both the selection and the prices of the garments. I am now signed up on their email list and plan to attend whenever I'm in the area!
Good place to find great jems .But you must frequent often.
I have been to two sales here - Theory and J Crew. I was a big fan of the former but a little disappointed with the latter. The Theory sale had some true bargains. I walked out with two $300 dresses for $30 each. They also had sweaters, pants, jackets - all prices were pretty reasonable. On the other hand, I did not get anything at the J Crew sale. Unlike the Theory sale, the dressing room was not open for use and they had no mirrors anywhere. So, if you wanted to know how an item looked, you just had to ask a fellow shopper. One honest individual told me that a coat that I was trying on "wasn't doing me any favors." Point was well-taken and I walked out empty-handed. Shoes were $65, coats were $90 and cashmere sweaters were $50. Not the best prices that I have ever seen for clothing that was mostly marked as SAMPLE. There were tons of size 6 of all clothing items, but not too many other sizes. Overall, I would not go back to the J Crew sale, but I would like to attend another one of their sales next time I'm in town.
They make you check your bag. (just as an fyi)
I went to free people a few weeks back and got a few things I had had my eye on from the store.
The dressing room scenario can be mixed (read more about this on racked/shophound)
they have a website and you can sign up for email updates-the schedule changes sometimes so best to check the website or call the hotline.
upcoming in may/june
rag and bone
tory burch
theory (i'll be there)
Its amazing. The Kenneth Cole sale is the best for price. Theory is really good to but I always wait until the slash prices. The prices usually drop by the 3rd or 4th day of a sale. Tory Burch is amazing and insane. Line at the door, line for the shoes. But I go every time. They allow exchanges, but not returns. So if you buy something you hate, you can still exchange while the sale is going on. Love it. Highly recommended.
Is this one of the best sample sale locations in the Garment District!
Location is always the same but stock is constantly changing.
Find labels like - Kooba Leather Bags for $250, Free People showroom samples priced around $5 to $25.Tory Burch at 80% off. Tocca dresses for $40...
Men's, women's, kids and home wares! Check their website - http://www.clothinglin... as their hours are weird.
Clothingline has been around for awhile and is one of the better sample sales. It's organized for one. Two, the stock changes very quickly usually about every two weeks. Three, the brands are well known from Theory and Calypso to Free People and Havaianas. Four, the clothes are in good condition (no junky crap that is defective). And five, the sale is a large open floor that is not too crowded or chaotic. There is even a communal dressing room. Minus one star for having to check in your bags and jackets/sweaters. You end up feeling like a criminal before you even enter the sale. Minus another star for everything still being overly priced. These are samples and surpluses! I will emerge broker than when I was first stepped in. I thought the point of a sample sale was to get designer duds and gems at a fraction of the cost, not to still pay a 400% markup. Sigh.
This week's sale of Helmut Lang and Rag & Bone was pretty good. Really nice suits, trench coats, cigarette pants, skinny jeans, flirty dresses, and tank tops to make you look and feel like a million dollars. Original prices were like $565 and discounts were anywhere from 40-65% off. Pretty good, I guess.
Come here on a mission and you can score big time. Otherwise, the sales are sort of unexciting. The place ends up looking like a dry cleaners and with my purse and jacket checked in at the front door, I end up feeling a little like I'm missing my security blanket.
i'm almost afraid to post about this, for fear of this sale becoming overcrowded, but here goes...
Clothing Line - SSS Sample Sales features one of the best sample sales ever -- the Theory sample sale!! with prices marked up to 75% off, i've gotten suits, blazers, pants, skirts, and tops at rock-bottom prices.
Clothing Line also has other sales for free people, kooba, and other brands, but the Theory sale is the best.
I'm not a designer label whore, but show me high quality clothes where I can rummage and emerge with a good steal and I'm there. Yes, they make you check your coat and bags, but on the up side you don't overheat (the loft is hot and shopping gets me in a fervor) and no bags to carry means free hands to hoard your loot! Big sales sometimes means lines to get in, but it's usually worth a short wait for the treasures that lie within!
I've only been to the Theory and Tory Burch sales. I have to say that I got some amazing pieces at GREAT prices. Theory suit (jacket, pants, skirt) for $330 and Tory Burch flats ($75) and dress ($75). The Tory Burch sale was nuts....I waited outside for an hour and the shoe line inside for around $40 minutes...so for good days make sure to get in line early !! (like, before they open). I'm definitely looking forward to the upcoming sales!!
