Best smog shop in the city. These guys know what their doing, their highly efficient (it only took 15 minutes), great price, very accommodating. I highly recommend this place if you need to get your car smogged.

Wow ... 76 reviews and only 1 2 star review. The other 75 are 5s! Make that 76 now.
Me: "Hey C, I need to get a SMOG how about this place?"
C: "Ya you should be good to go."
Me: "But it's 3PM on a Saturday and they close at 5 ... isn't that pushing it? What if there's a line? Doesn't it take like an hour?"
Damn I was wrong ... I was in and out in literally 15 minutes. Grade quadruple A rating coming from an Elite '09 Yelper in 2008. You can't go wrong.

I wouldnt have found this place if it wasnt for Yelp. Thank gawd for recommending me here you guys! The last smog test I did was a couple years back and I remember having to leave my car and return some hours later. Clean Air Smog finished my car before I even got to finish checking my email on the little computer terminal that they had. I did mention the coupon for twenty bucks off and they happily gave it to me. The workers there are a great friendly bunch.
P.S. Erwin the smog test guy is a cutie.

I got in and out of there in record time, considering that there were already two cars being tested when I got there. They were friendly and after asking me where I had heard about them they gave me the $20 yelper discount. Woo hoo!
Their waiting room magazine collection consisted mainly of gaming magazines, W, GQ, Car and Driver, and Maxim.
- 1/2 star for not having an espresso machine and playing electronica, or maybe plus 1/2 a star.
- 1/2 star for not having hot stone massage and fresh squeezed wheat grass juice.
It's a damn smog place already!!

Before CleanAir, I was a Smog Test Virgin - being from the less-green friendly Midwest. So, after reading the reviews on Yelp, I took my 15-year old Jeep to CleanAir this past weekend.
I couldn't have been more pleased with the experience (even though I didn't pass one part of the testing). They are clearly honest and fair. They are quick to get your car tested, and with the Yelp discount, I paid a reasonable price of $50.
Further, the guy helping me explained in a very detailed manner what I needed to have fixed, gave me names of mechanics he believes to be honest and made sure to tell me that I shouldn't believe any mechanic who says that there is anything wrong with my vehicle outside of what he explained.
I highly recommend this CleanAir!

These guys rock. I arrived at like 12:40pm on a Friday, running late, and needing to make a 1pm appointment a few blocks away. Even though there was a line of cars waiting to be smog checked, the guys were extremely fast and professional, and had me on my way in 20 minutes flat. (He said they normally only take 10 minutes). It was my bad for coming during lunch hour on a Friday, but it all worked out.
Don't forget to mention that you found them on Yelp to get the di$count...

I found this place thanks to yelp. I went there on a Saturday early afteroon and I was in and out of there for a smog test in the time it took my bf to smoke a cigarette outside while waiting. They service is friendly and efficient, and the price cheaper than other places, $50 with the discount.
The people who work here are very professional, friendly, extremely fast and SUPER COOL. They gave me the $20.00 discount and did not charge me for the additional fuel tank test. I strongly recommend this place!

I was in and out before my starbucks was cool enought to drink. Dude was cool, even gave me directions to the DMV.
clean air smog has a special place in my little book. do you want to know why? from the first time i pulled into the garage i had nothing but exceptional customer service. i was greeted warmly by a nice guy named tommy who said he would take care of everything in a matter of minutes. he ushered me into his newly renovated seating area equipped with a state of the art computer all to myself! who can beat that? i was able to dibble dabble into my email and facebook (the usual), all the while my little tinker got his yearly check. again, i was warmly greeted by another worker who genuinely asked how i was doing. 5 minutes later my car was up and running. if you mention that you saw their coupon, he'll give you an automatic $20 off your smog check. now thats fast service!
I'm new to this town and to the whole smog check thing and needed to have my beloved Porsche checked out. I called the nearest Porsche dealer and they wanted $150 and 3 hours to perform the test. Thinking that this seemed high I consulted the yelp site and found CleanAir. These guys are Great! I was in and out in 15 minutes and all for just $59.95. Thanks yelp for once again steering me in the right direction.
I can't imagine anyone giving these guys less than 5 stars. ClearAir Smog is a one of a kind smog test facility in San Francisco! Forget the jerks at Downtown Smog that claim a 1 hour wait in their filthy location and $70 for a test is normal. Here you're in and out in less than 15 minutes, it costs $50 (with the mention of Yelp) and the place is actually very nice.
Unlike the stiffs at Downtown Smog, these guys actually have a smile on their face. They are serious about their work, but don't take it so seriously that they can't make a joke or be nice to you.
And as a side note, if your car is 1995 or older, they will do the EVAP test as required by California law. Luckily here there is NO charge for it. Downtown Smog wanted $30 extra... can you believe that?
I now have a place where I will take any car that needs to get SMOG checked.

The most painless smog check ever! I was so nervous about my '92 Miata not passing the test. These guys made sure the car was properly warmed up to give it the best chance and it passed with flying colors -- all in ten minutes or less! So imagine my horror when I realized that I'd left my debit card on my desk. Earl was a doll -- I called him with my number the minute I got home and he's going to drop off the paperwork to me personally. Now, that's what I call SERVICE.
Oh, and the price was right, too -- $49.95 plus $10 for the certificate.

Clean Air deserves every one of their 5 stars! No need for an appointment, just show up, fill out a small form (remembering to say you found them on Yelp, saves $20!) and wait for a few minutes. I'm pretty sure the entire process took less than 10 minutes. Everyone working there is super nice and efficient. Only downside is dealing with the DMV afterwards ;)

Wow. So this place has friendly faces, upfront (yelp-discounted) pricing, and a clean waiting room with plenty of magazines that you won't have a chance to read...really. These guys are unbelievably fast. I spent more time filling up my tank at the gas station on my way than inside. Hell, I've spent more time deciding which slice of pizza I want.
Try it; you'll like it.
. Since recently moving to the bay area, I needed to get my new car checked out and heard about CleanAir Smog in the SOMA area from other classmates and friends.
After visiting the center this past week, I have to share how pleased I was with the customer service I received as well as the premium waiting atmosphere. I felt the staff was both professional and efficient. It took LESS THAN 10 minutes! I plan on continuing to test my cars here in the future as well as recommend CleanAir to anyone else needing to get their smog checked. The magazine selection is also superb and I will definitely continue to return to a business that will probably remember me in the future.

For what you say? For making my life just a little bit easier.
These guys are quick and friendly! What more could you ask for? All i did was drive in, get out of the car, and Earl took care of me right away. It took minutes and my smog check was finished! Not only that, i didn't even get to ask about notifying the DMV, Earl told me right away that the DMV was already notified, and my car had passed and i even received the $20 discount by mentioning the online coupon... talk about customer service!
These guys are awesome, i would definitely reccommend them to anyone needing a smog check!

It can be such a chore to take your car in anywhere for anything but if and when you need to get your car smog checked, take it here. I sound like an advertisement but i was extremely satisfied with the customer service and how friendly they were. awesome job guys!

I wish they ran a repair shop. These guys are so friendly, professional and good at explaining things.
I was four months late and didn't know my pre-1995 car had to have a new test. But it was the same price (some places charge extra for the new test), including the $20 web discount.
Because I was so late, they recommended I go right to the DMV to get the sticker. They even printed up directions so I could get there quicker. These guys are awesome!
I also wish they ran the DMV.

If you have a car you'll need a smog test, you need a smog test go to CleanAir.
- Quick and Efficient. Like pretty much everyone else here, I was in-and-out in under 15 minutes
- Cost of $59.99 after $20.00 discount for saying 'saw it on Yelp' (or just 'please') makes them among the cheaper places in the city
- Pleasant and very competent seeming staff
A few notes
- Bring your registration notice with you. They can still file your certificate with the DMV for you without the notice, but its smoother if you have the notice
- Waiting room isn't heated . You won't spend long here so its not a big deal, but if its winter wear a sweater. (I suspect its actively ventilated with the outside so no fumes from nearby smog testing come in. Personally, I'll take a little chill over carbon monoxide poisoning any day, but then I have a great life).
- If you have a full-sized, pre '95 van its an extra $20 since they have remove the engine cover to test. Then again, if you have a pre '95 van in this city, my guess is you have bigger problems than paying the extra $20.

I went in @ 1130 on a Wed and was done within 20 minutes, no appt necessary. They gave me a special Internet price of $50, even though I hadn't seen the ad and hasn't asked for it. The staff was incredibly friendly, professional, and efficient. They even handed me the newest issue of Glamour magazine to read while I waited...how kind. Plus, they send an electronic copy of your certificate to the DMV so you can finish up online. I usually feel uncomfortable at car shops (sleazy men, scary men, etc) but I felt at ease here. Awesome!

I waited a bit more than expected because of a spike in the line when i arrived (midday rush perhaps), but it moved pretty briskly and i had a decent read in the car so no biggie.
The chap who dealt with me was very pleasant, and the check was completed in no time. i was chuffed that i had passed and the discount was applied before I had a chance to mention it.
I think i came here a couple of years back and Ill def be back next time round.
Why does getting a smog check have to be so freakishly hard? Why does California allow test stations to set their own prices!
Well, I just had a positive Yelp! experience. CleanAir is a great place to get your smog check. They were friendly, efficient and competitively priced. I was done in like 15 minutes. I strongly recommend.
Watch out! 1995 and older cars need to have a new test called 'Evap' (Low-Pressure Fuel Evaporation Test) -- CleanAir doesn't charge, but Downtown Smog quoted $30 extra! Make sure to ask when you call anywhere for a quote.
Also go to CleanAir's website for a web discount... today it was $20 = total $59.95 all in.

Left at 9:20am back at 9:50am. That's some quick service. Staff was professional and seemed to be very nice. They honored my verbal coupon and gave my car back in less than 10 minutes, I had barely updated my status message on facebook via my iphone when they said your car is ready.
Total was 59.95 with the coupon. Word.

On the last possible day I needed to get a smog test, these guys delivered! It was a Friday afternoon rush hour and I was looking for their shop (right across the street from DNA Lounge). I was running late and they kept the store open for me after closing. After reliving some of my childhood by playing some Mario Kart on SNES after 15 minutes, the test was complete and I passed with flying colors.
Thanks for coming through in a bind! These guys know what's up and make getting a smog test simple, and of course, I got the $20 discount by mentioning Yelp. Solid!!!

Quick and easy. I found them on yelp 30 minutes ago, drove down there with no appointment on a saturday afternoon, was in and out in under 10 minutes, and am already back writing this review.
Damn! These guys are fast! And friendly, to boot!
I was in and out of there before I could finish an interesting magazine article that I picked up from their gynormous stack of magazines in their lobby.
I mentioned that I had heard about them on Yelp and they honored my verbal coupon without any problems. The staff was friendly and eager to help me! The guy behind the counter informed me about California smog test standards and how often I should expect to test my vehicle.

getting a smog check is about as fun as going to the dentist, only no one prevents you from renewing the registration on your mouth if you don't go to the dentist. that said, this place was the most hassle-free smog check i've had. in and out in under ten minutes, super friendly, results sent to the dmv immediately so that when i got home, i had my registration done online in just a couple minutes. nothing at all to complain about, expect the part about spending 60 bucks to prove something i already knew anyway.

in and out in 10 minutes. FRIENDLY and outgoing staff. They make sure you're well taken care of even though you're only waiting for a few minutes. Its so hard to find places that are so trustworthy now a days. I'm recommending this place to all my friends.
Fast! Very Fast. Other people have said ten minutes, but I don't think it took that long. The price was what you'd expect (with the discount) and they got the job done with great service. Too bad Jiffy Lube can't be this good.
