The Fourth of July is the most annoying day of the year in Clawson.  On this day, our taxpayer money sponsors a pathetic little carnival, a horribly intrusive parade, and some other events including an evening fireworks show.

The events draw families from throughout the metro Detroit area, infusing the smell of kool-aid mustaches, cotton candy, maple syrup, and porta-potty throughout the city.  The streets are crowded with people and cars, so residents can't even park, drive, or enjoy their front yard.  But the worst part of it all?  The events are free, so the City of Clawson gets no return on its investment.

The carnival:
Seems to have shrank in size over the years, so it's become even more of a pathetic excuse for a carnival.  They only have two or three rides, but because there are so many people there, the lines are really long.  The funniest thing is that the "ferris wheel" has only five or six cars, and can't be more than 12 feet at its highest point.  Each car can fit a small child uncomfortably.  Ridiculous that people will actually get excited over that.

The parade:
Fire engines from Clawson as well as surrounding cities and townships participate in the parade.  So you don't just get one or two engines' worth of intrusively loud sirens.  You get about 20 engines' worth.  The racket will wake you up at 8:00 a.m. on your day off of work when you just want to sleep in.

... Thank you, yelp, for letting me rant.
