Out first taste of Classic Thai...the flavour and heat of the Tofu Panang was delightful but the tofu was a bit gloopy and we will probly choose shrimp next time...They were out of the papaya salad...which is the best thing we had in Thailand...which again just means will pay them another visit! The mango sticky rice was so lovely!

All in all this place is another reason that Eagle Rock ROCKS!!!!

Wait - what? Why are there so many amazing ratings for this place? The service totally sucked - we had no napkins or eating utensils on our table for at least 15 minutes after we were seated.  We also had to ASK for these items after the first course was already on the table!

One star for a cute little restaurant and another star for a tasty hot and sour soup. But that's all you get, Classic Thai!!!

There was an episode of Madmen when Betty Draper throws an "international" dinner party and includes things like Chicken ala King as Chinese and Heineken for Belgian beer. If Betty had Thai on her menu this place would be the perfect substitute. It's Thai food for people that have never had, or want, real Thai food.

The restaurant has a very cute atmosphere in a converted craftsman that I'm sure would go for a pretty penny on the Eagle Rock real estate market but that's about all it has going for it. I knew I was in for it when I noticed everything on the menu is in English and  about half the main dishes come as a combination of Thai fried rice and some other Chinese-Thai item. I decided to brave it and give it a shot anyway.

The Tom Kai Kai soup had big pieces of chicken but was served with button mushrooms and bell peppers. Not exactly authentic but had some decent flavor to it so it was worthy of 3 stars. The chicken satay was large pieces of grilled chicken breast that reminded me more of plump chicken strips on a skewer from the local bar. This isn't entirely bad but it isn't chicken satay. What was bad was they had no seasoning (none!) and the peanut sauce was more like chunks of peanut mixed in a sweet and sour base. For my main I went with the chicken pad thai which was decent but nothing special. It's hard to mess up Pad Thai so they have some grace here.

My friend ordered a seafood noodle dish and I can't describe it any better that than since I have no idea what it was supposed to be because everything just had English descriptions like "seafood noodles". It had big chunks of crab, what we think was squid, mussles, and shrimp. It was rather strange that there were items we didn't recognize because both of us are seasoned eaters and she's a sous chef. This dish was so awful that she actually had to spit pieces out although she did hide them under the mussle shell because she felt bad telling the sugary sweet waitress that it was vile. Negative stars for this.

The service was great and the waitress was so nice and accomodating that we felt bad for telling her the food wasn't very good so we just sucked it up and left our plates 3/4 full and told her we weren't as hungry as we thought. 4 stars for service.

Overall the experience wasn't awful but it wasn't good either. Anyone that has rated this place 4+ stars has never experienced real Thai food and probably wouldn't like it if they had it. This place is beyond Americanized - it's mediocre Americanized. I definitely will not be going back especially when there are so many other spots that are so much better.

Too bad there isn't an option for No Stars! Hands down the worst Thai food in the entire world! Seriously. The entire world!  My Thai friends would definitely be ashamed that this restaurant has the word "Thai" in it... entrees come with MSG and tap water soup with a few half cooked vegetables then stirred with a spoon. My pork spare rib gave you the feeling that you were gnawing on tree bark... The spicy noodle soup came with your choice of chilli flakes (the kind you sprinkle on your pizza), soy sauce to make it saltier or bags of sugar to make the soup sweeter. (words from the mouth of our server... no lie!) What makes it worse is that my stomach was upset the rest of the night and I had to go home early because of it. Cute decor but thats about it... how have they managed to stay open this whole time is beyond me...

I always order the lunch combo golden squid. It satisfies my hunger. Not to mention, the soup that comes along with it makes me feel warm and cozy. The service is great. The waitresses are sweet.

i was so disappointed when i came here for lunch last Friday. I ordered one of their lunch specials, and it was awful.. I've been to this restaurant a couple of times in the past and it has been ok. But last week did it for me... The yellow curry chicken was a no go... I'd rather drive a couple more miles to Glendale and go to the original thai bbq.

Hands down my favorite Thai place
I love the small decor and the food is just to die for
My favorite dessert is the mango and sticky rice and this place does it to perfection but what I discovered here was the fried banana. Good Almighty that dessert would make you want to kiss the pretty person at the table next to you bc that was your last meal and what better way is to go off with a smile on your face and satisfied stomach. I took a lot of pictures

Alright, so I have been on a mission for the past year to try and find the best Pad Thai in Los Angeles, and as of today Classic Thai holds the top spot. Its noodles are silky smooth, sauce is very tasty not too sweet or too spicy but with the right amount of tamarind.  The tofu on the dish is also very good, not too chewy or too watery, but cooked to perfection.  This location also holds the top spot for its fried banana with light coat of powdered sugar. Pretty sure my brother posted a couple of pics (under James S.)

As for the rest of the dishes this place has to offer (pad see yew, beef satay, BBQ/kiang chicken, and mango & sticky rice) there are better Thai restaurant that could leave you with a greater experience.

Remember this is my favorite Pad Thai location, but everyone has their own taste, this is just my spot

This place is nice little converted house on Colorado.  I usually get the Pad Thai.  It's nice to sit in the outside patio area because you are facing the main street.  You get to see people who are walking by and the speeders down Colorado.  I like to eat the wonton soup which is awesome especially if you are sick.  The large wonton soup comes in a pot and there is a burner underneath to keep it warm.  The inside is pretty small and they have parking in the back.  Like some of the businesses on Colorado they have a back door you can enter.  The combo plates are good and come with a pretty good amount of food.  We usually share food between people so we get different plates.  The service is good and very friendly.

This place is cute and has a lovely outdoor seating.

Indoors.. I swear I am in someones house. Anyways, the service was slow in the beginning.. but then BAM!! The lady kept coming with the pitcher filling up our glasses.

The red curry was not where my expectations were, it was really watered down.. and if you went to president thai, you can agree with me that they slaughter the curry here at classics.

Their pad thai is really good though so I would recommend you getting that.

That's pretty much what I have to say, I will return again.

So often the problem with Thai food is that it leaves you feeling like you're swimming through congealed coconut milk without your prescription goggles. But this place - THIS place has got it right on. Everything I've tried has tasted super fresh, crisp, natural, and left me alert and very very happy. Great ingredients, great flavors. The staff are especially nice, as is the atmosphere of the restaurant. And brown rice. Yes.

I love this place. It never lets me down. The prices are great, the food is tasty, and service is phenomenal. Definitely 5 stars!

My faves - pad see ew, pad thai, won ton soup, hot and sour soup, thai ice tea, shrimp garlic with rice, and the the desserts. You can also order it for take out. The restaurant was converted from a single family home and is beautifully decorated with candles and wall decor from Thailand.

They have a private lot in the back if you cannot find parking on the streets. They also sell class thai t-shirts for $10 each. It was available in brown and yellow. We bought the brown one.

The staff here gets 6 stars. They are SOOOO nice! The atmosphere is cute, it's a little converted house with some outdoor seating out front as well. The food is pretty good, it tends to be spicy which is great by me, but be sure to order it mild if you are sensitive to spices. My friend got something that was too spicy and they remade it for him which was really cool of them to do.

A not so well known gem!  I was here last night since I took my Dad out for his birthday dinner.  We've been coming here for a few years actually (back when it was still carpet inside).  Out of the countless times I have been here with friends and family, I've only been really let down twice.  And that was mainly due to slow service since it was so busy and they only had two waitresses.

One item that is a must have almost every time we go here is the whole fried Pompano fish with the chili on the side.  Nice and crispy outside skin with a still moist inside.  Absolutely delicious paired with the chili sauce and rice!  *heaven*

As for parking, there is a small (6 car) lot behind the restaurant and I believe and additional parking on side streets.  Because of that it's kinda hard if you want to get a group together.  Also, large groups (6+) will almost always be seated outside since the inside is very small and intimate.  The restaurant did lose a star for service with groups.  If you bring a group on a busy night and you're outside, make sure there is a good conversation going to help pass the time in between seeing your server.

SUPER COZY! Like eating in your best friend's living room, but with a lot more tables. Well, at least it's cozy enough to sit while you wait for your to go order. I don't know why but I was extra excited to try my food: Won ton soup and Pad Thai Tofu. And once I found the pad thai noodles under all the cabbage and bean sprouts I was not disappointed. The soup was just ok but the big, yummy chunks of tofu and slithery, slimy little noodles in the pad thai rocked my world. I look forward to enjoying my meal out on the patio next to the fishies next time.

We haven't eaten in yet, but the takeout has been completely delicious both times we've had it.  The vegetarian fresh ginger dish and the pad thai are 100% scrumptious and addictive.

One of the things I've been missing from SF is the wide variety of Thai restaurants that were walkable from our apartment. While Classic Thai isn't walkable from our new LA abode, it's just a quick drive.

I can't wait to have a meal on their adorable little outdoor patio and treat myself to one of their desserts. I mean....a floating banana in coconut milk or homemade coconut banana cream pie? Come ON!

Having been to so many Thai restaurants lately, I've started judging them based on their Thai iced tea. I imagine this is sort of like judging an Italian restaurant by their fettucine alfredo or something like that.

Nevertheless, said iced tea at Classic Thai Restaurant was not very good. I'm a sucker for crushed iced. They only had cubed ice that had a faint funky refrigerator smell. The tea itself was a tad syrupy and didn't have enough cream.

On to the food! I claimed not to be hungry, but I ate my fair share of Ti's BBQ ribs. Sweet, grilled and tender. Excellent! The desserts were not my speed. Both the coconut ice cream and the banana floating in coconut milk were, imagine this, too rich. Too sweet and too much. Stick to the savories!

Great service, decent outside patio with ashtrays for smokers like me, and plenty of parking on the street and in the back. A very decent find!

YUUUMMMIIIIINNNIIIIOOOUUUSSS!

I have been here twice and I am addicted to the spare ribs appetizer.  I try to go healthy, but it is sooo hard when the meet is callin.  Ask Sarah F and Maral A...that meat is soooo Beefy.  ;)

We sat in this serene patio area with a water fountain, with a white pergola above.  Smoking is permitted.  The food comes out sooo fast.

This is not a place for the faint of heart or those who are seeking to diet, bc the menu is ooo tempting.

So far I have shared this spot with two lovely ladies and shared great conversation.  :)

Oh to memories.

We love Classic Thai Restaurant because the vegetables they use are fresh. The lunch menus are great and comes with soup and a slice of watermelon. Great tasting food but service is on and off. Parking is a bit limited in the back behind the restaurant. We only wish that they deliver, that would have been great for rainy/lazy days.

ok, I went to this place because I saw it on yelp.
It was pretty good.. I guess im just spoiled after living in hawaii for so long.
the problem I have with most thai places is that I go to I order the same thing,
pad thai EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA spicy..
it gets to the table..
the girl is always like..
"this is REARRY SPICY" ;)
and its always the same story.
To quote the great H.J.S
"a bland timid entry suitable  for patients recovering from surgery"
so they get no love for giving me a plate of pad thai that is about as spicy as a porno starring andy dick, jay leno, and ... larry king.
the REAL deal should be so hot, that the next day when it.. comes out..
it should still be spicy coming out.

the highs,
good service,
quick food to the table.
ok prices,
really fresh tasting veggies.

the lows:
parking
ok prices,
nothing spicy.

Classic Thai is by far the best Thai restaurant in Eagle Rock and definitely one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in LA.

Their dishes are always really fresh-tasting and everything I've had is delicious.  I recommend the pineapple fried rice, the pad thai, and the basil eggplant is divine...the fresh spring rolls can sometimes be a bit dry, but the tangy sauce and the marinated cucumbers totally make up for it.  I always order extra little buckets of the cucumbers...

When I eat Thai food, I usually keep it light and refreshing and try to avoid that too-full feeling which can totally happen when everyone orders dishes that come with rice or noodles.  But I was trying to cure both a hangover and a craving for fried foods when I sprang for the Heavenly Chicken.  Not only was it absolutely delicious, it managed to pull off being fried, tasty, and not make me feel all yucky afterward!  It was great....

The decor inside is typical and the tables are close together.  But that said, I've never been bothered by the smallness, even when they are busy.  And there is most always a family with children there, so if your kids are well behaved and have a palate for Thai, Classic Thai would be a good place to bring them.

If you don't mind the traffic on Colorado Blvd, their outside patio is a nice environment for a date or to take the parents out for a bite.  I often order take away and have never been disappointed with anything...

I'm so happy Classic Thai is in my neighborhood!

Walk through the white picket fence, and find yourself in a cute little house.  No really, the dining area is inside the living room of a converted house!  Very cute, cozy and clean.

Tasty thai food at inexpensive places, I'm looking forward to trying more dishes here.

I had lunch here about a year ago with JSwiss and the curry was delightfull. It was surprisingly light and the texture was different, as if it the curry was home-made.... niiiiiiiiiiice.

The service was cool, besides my lunch date not appreciating the fact that the Thai hostess would not answer back to her in Thai....! hahahahaha

besides that and the confusing entrance, this place is A.O.K.....!!!!

The prices are totally reasonable - I usually order Pad Thai and spend about $14 for a huge portion that I eat for dinner AND lunch the next day.

It is a really special place...one of my favorite college hangouts.

My step mom took us here for lunch a few years back and we've been coming back ever since. Every time Shell and I bring a friend here, like my girl Natasha S. (what what), they always wanna come back. The papaya salad is really fresh, the heavenly chicken is always a must have and definitely large enough to split. Their fried rice is the best I've ever had..I usually douse my fried rice at other restaurants with hot sauce cause I like my food on the spicier side, but their rice is so good I don't want to lose any of it's originally delicious flavor. This place is really small, so it's not good for big parties...this spot is great when you want to enjoy some good food and catch up with a friend for lunch or dinner.

The very first time I went to this place I thought it was "okay." But upon my recent trip I have to say I don't think I will ever go there again! The food was AWFUL, Thai being one of my favorites made this experience that much worse. Usually my pitbull is begging to eat my food but the smell of this food (I had taken it to go) kept her far away, in fact I tried to give her the rice which dogs usually love and she would not eat it! Am not joking. Seriously am not sure how they went from "okay" to worse but it happened! I so had wished to like it becuase I would have loved to have a local Thai joint to go to!

I've had the pineapple friend rice, the shrimp fried rice, teriyaki chicken, chicken satay, and heavenly chicken. They are all great and I'd get them again. I've never tried the curry there, but my friends seem to love it.

I've loved this neighborhood Thai joint since we moved here, but it was the reaction of my guests at dinner tonight which solidify the five star rating.  The standout dish tonight (and also our favorite take-out item) was the Coconut Chicken Soup!  Sweet but spicy, savory chicken and delicious thinly sliced mushrooms with a sour kick!

Great for take-out, but a nice dining room as well plus outdoor seating.  Reasonable prices.  Friendlly service.  Beer and Zato (a Thai rice wine -- not bad, tangy sweet and mild).

There's parking in back, and I always seem to find a place.  Classic Thai lives up to its name!

This place is so good, even just thinking about it right now to review it is making me hungry.  Really great little mom and pop thai restaurant, small and no frills but GREAT service, great food and decent prices.  I am a creature of habit and tend to get veggie springrolls, thai peanut salad and a mild vegetable curry when I go to a Thai joint, sometimes going for the Pad Thai or the Pad See Ew.  I believe I have ordered everything but the pad see ew here, and everything I have had has been wonderful.  Really good. Probably my second favorite Thai place in the city (Kinaree in Hollywood being tops)

you're average tasting thai restaurant which in my book is good cuz in LA thai food is pretty satisfying and affordable.\
the restaurant itself was interesting cuz its like a remodeled looking white colonial home and as u enter the back u feel like you are walking on the hardwood floors of someone's house.
came here for lunch to be welcomed by a lunch specials menu. cheap thai iced tea and lunch items for around $6. serioulsy affordable. good portions. i would recommend if you're looking for some asian, quick, sit down, affordable lunch in eagle rock.

Amount of food you get for the price is not a good value.  The rice is dry and the beef served with the pad see ew was tough.  The pineapple curry and the pleasant service and atmosphere (ignoring the occasional loud music from passing cars) was what saved the experience for us.  We'd opt for Thai Spirit down the street.

I get take out from here every couple of weeks and can't believe how good it is.  It is odd that their take out menu says that in some year that it was voted the best Thia restaurant in Pasadena 'cause it ain't in Pasadena and nothing can compete with Saladong.  That said, I hope it hangs on for a long time.
