I had their Ultimate Spicy Beef Rice Noodle Soup--it's packed with round noodles, tender beef, egg, spicy bamboo shoots, fermented soybean, chili, tomato, green veggies, and snail soup. It's really spicy, flavorful, and satisfying. The noodles have a perfect chew, the beef is tender, and the fresh tomato adds a nice touch. The broth is tasty too, making the whole meal enjoyable. This time, they also offer a side dish tray with extra spicy bamboo shoots, fermented soybean, and more, so you can add even more flavor to your soup!

My visit to Fen Classic Guilin Rice Noodles once again! This time, I tried the Ultimate Spicy Beef Rice Noodle Soup. The beef was tender, and the soup base was incredibly flavorful. I requested extra spiciness, and it was so good that it made me break a little sweat! I even had some soup leftover to take home, where I added noodles, eggs, and some protein to enjoy later.Jul 28, 2023Previous reviewThis was my first time trying their Ultimate Spicy Beef Tripe Rice Noodle Soup, and I opted for a take-out order with regular-sized round noodles, extra spiciness, and a side dish of crispy pork.
The highlight of the dish was undoubtedly the flavorful broth. The level of spiciness was perfect for my taste buds, leaving me with a running nose, which complemented the tasty noodles and other ingredients. The crispy pork side dish was a great addition, but I wish it had been a bit crispier. Additionally, a larger portion would have been appreciated.
Despite this, the overall experience was fantastic, with efficient take-out service.Jul 7, 2023Previous reviewFen Classic in Oakland is a culinary gem, offering the delightful Five Blessings Guilin Rice Noodle. Packed with beef brisket, BBQ pork, braised beef, beef tripe, and golden crispy pork, this dish is accompanied by a small bowl of plain soup, resulting in an unforgettable flavor experience.
While the prices at Fen Classic may be slightly higher, the outstanding taste and quality of their Guilin Rice Noodles justify the cost. The combination of rich and savory meats in the Five Blessings variation is a true feast for the senses, making it an ideal choice for those with a strong craving for Guilin rice noodle.
It's important to plan your visit to Fen Classic accordingly, as they are closed on Mondays. However, when they are open, you can expect a truly delightful dining experience that will leave a lasting impression. - Apr 22, 20241 check-in
It was rather expensive, more expensive than lots SF places too and the portion is rather small. The flavor was good, and they also offer free pickled vegetables. Will I come back? Probably not, unless I really crave rice noddles. The owner here works very hard and she was very efficient. The place is simple and not much to comment. It's a place for a quick bite in between shifts and that's about it. But again. Rather expensive to me.

I have been by this place many times over the years but my most recent visit they relocated down a block from their original location. They do not offer public restrooms unfortunately.
The new location is a lot smaller than their old one but still a nice place to stop by for a meal. Their menu items have mostly stayed the same with few items being removed such as the sampler noodles and some of the combos. My most recent visit I had the laoyou snail noodles and the five blessings guilin noodles. Both were very good! Since they don't have many people coming in for dine in, they serve the dishes in compostable bowls and use sustainable utensils. I didn't have much problem besides some noodles getting stuck to the bottom of the bowls but nothing you can't pry off with a spoon or fork :).
The service was great, the staff were attentive and worked fast to get food out. Overall a great visit, and not once have I experienced any problems during my visits over the years. A great place to stop by in Oakland Chinatown :)Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - MT Y.Castro Valley, CA0111Apr 16, 2024Updated review
The portion size has gotten smaller - definitely shrinkflation in play. Taste is still good, but less garlicky than before. They serve their noodles in disposable plastic bowls with disposable plastic spoons now. In an effort to reduce our global carbon footprint, I will not be eating here anymore.

I didn't care for the soup noodles too much, but love the dry Guilin noodles because in addition to yummy ingredients, they use a lot of garlic! The ride noodles are different because although they are made of rice, they taste and feel more like wheat noodles.
Service was very good too! Will definitely be coming back! - Dec 1, 2023
Came here on a random weekend for lunch, this is a small noodle shop on the edge of Oakland Chinatown. We ordered the 5 blessing Guilin noodle soup and a spicy snail noodle soup. The 5 blessing is just a mix of meat with noodle with a side of broth. While the spicy snail is a soup noodle with your choice of meat and a variety of vegetables. The service was fast, and you get your food even faster. I think this is a quick stop for lunch if other places are closed, we were not impressed with the food, and I think for 20/pp you can grab other quick eats in the neighborhood for better value.

What a great spot! Found it randomly while searching for a good lunch spot. Basically it's dry or soup noodles and it seems most like the dry noodles so I went with that. I got the beef brisket/crispy pork noodles and added the pickled cabbage. I also got a side of yuba which is thin sheets of soybean.
You can order online which is convenient and it was ready in 10 minutes. It's cash only so make sure to have that money in hand.
First the yuba. I'm a fan of yuba, and if it's homemade, it's one of the best forms of soybean/tofu you can eat. This wasn't that but the flavor it was cooked in had a nice, subtly spicy flavor to it. Thoroughly enjoyed having it given you don't see it often on menus.
The noodles were fantastic. The crispy pork and peanuts provide a great crunchy contrast to the soft and slippery rice noodles. Make sure you mix it well before eating it since a lot of the sauce stays in the bottom. The green cabbage was also an additional nice crunch plus sour flavor to contrast all the other flavors going on. Given this is basically a meat/noodle dish, i welcomed having some greens in there. You can't see it in the photo but there was an egg in there that was also a nice add of something different. It's a familiar flavor and nothing that will blow your socks off but as a casual lunch spot, would love to have this on a regular basis. Definitely check it out.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - Jan 9, 2022Updated review
It's Sunday morning in Jan 2022, and I got a nice bowl of Beef Tripe Rice Noodle Soup from this restaurant. I ordered flat noodles in a clear broth. My takeout order came in 2 containers, and were easy to mix, stir and enjoy. Very nice, hot bowl of noodle soup.
But why takeout? Because this restaurant at "188 10th St" has no dining room. It's mainly takeout and delivery, with a very limited counter area for 4-5 diners. I thought it was takeout and delivery because of Covid-19. But I spoke to the lady who took my order, and she said there's no dining room beyond the front entry. So all those photos of a large dining room, are from the old location down the street. The current restaurant is more like a "hole in the wall." Same great food and kind service. But don't expect to bring a group of people and have noodle soup.Helpful 28Thanks 0Love this 23Oh no 0Jul 10, 2021Previous reviewI have been ordering large noodle bowls from "Classic Guilin Rice Noodles" over the last few weeks, as I find their offerings a nice comfort food. I've been using DoorDash, since the place is still takeout/delivery and I'm still resting a knee sprain. No problems, orders have been on-time and complete.
My favorites so far has been:
- Beef Tripe & Crispy Pork Guilin Rice Noodle, Grade (5/5): Large Bowl- lots of thick noodles. Tender tripe, thinly sliced crispy roast pork, scallions and peanuts. I ordered dry mix, and a broth & chili oil included. Next time, I might ask for no peanuts. Otherwise, I found the meal easy to eat. Noodles were soft and not soggy. The tripe and pork slices are in small pieces, and easy to chew. The key point is the pork was crispy, and had that flavor you remember.
- Pig Knuckles: a little pricey for 4 pieces, but I wanted some. There's a chinese belief that Pig Knuckles are rich in collagen, and can help build
stronger muscles and joints. So maybe they'll help with my muscle sprains.
Now, are these noodle bowls 100% authentic to those served in Guilin, China? Probably not. I watched some YouTube videos on the subject of Guilin Noodles in China. It seems to be their version of noodle fast food. "Classic Guilin Rice Noodles" is a no-frills place that serves up Chinese comfort food. You see, there's more to chinese food than chicken fried rice and sweet & sour pork. There's a wide variety of noodle dishes, comfort foods like my Mom used to serve us. You eat it, you feel warm inside. Add your favorite toppings, and you will enjoy your meal.
If you like it, it's worth the price - Jul 1, 2022
I was really craving Guilin rice noodles so on a visit to the area, I sought this place out. I'm so happy with my experience there! I ordered a bowl of guilin rice noodles with golden crispy pork and beef tendon. The meal was incredibly delicious. The noodles were the right texture, not too mushy or brittle, and the golden crispy pork provided great texture and flavor too. Overall, the flavor of all the ingredients complemented each other very well. In addition, the interior is very nice and the staff were very friendly with recommending what to order. Would definitely visit again!

Been there twice now in one month.
Best to order ahead using their QR code but I haven't figured out how to specify dri-mix, Guilin noodles, extra spicy, large, with pickled cabbage online :)
Park out front easy.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 1, 2022Previous reviewWas picking up a knife just sharpened at Standard Saw Works on 10th when I glanced across the street. Just a hole in the wall on a graffiti covered, trash strewn typical of so many commercial streets here.
Looks like take out only.
Ordered the Dry Mix/Stir Fried:
Beef Laoyou Rice Noodle
and the
Stir fried Pork Spicy Snails Rice Noodle but paid extra for Guillin Rice Noodle
and extra for fermented cabbage
Beef Laoyou was good, but a bit too wet for me. Beef quality acceptable.
The Pork Spicy Snails Rice Noodle using Guillin Rice was exceptionally good and drier than the Laoyou. (the snails refer to crispy bit of meat etc not snails)
Will be back. Best to order ahead. - 123219646Sep 25, 2020
Placed an order through Dashdoor on a Friday at around 11:15 AM. We had expected to wait about 30 mins for our order to be fulfilled, but turned out it took only around 10-15 mins for the food to be ready for pickup! I would assume this was the case probably because we placed our order early before the lunch hour.
My family had ordered Beef Brisket & Tripe Guilin Rice Noodle x 2 (one for myself), Crispy Pork as appetizer/side dish, BBQ Pork & Crispy Pork Guilin Rice Noodle, and Beef Brisket & Crispy Pork Guilin Rice Noodle.
I believe they're only allowing pick up and delivery currently. They got tables blocking the seating area out so no one is allowed in. There's two tables for pickup orders - one specifically for Doordash pickup and the other is probably for all other orders. By the time I went to pick up the food, it was all ready to go.
Crispy Pork was done nicely! Thinly sliced and skin was crispy. As for my Beef Brisket & Beef Tripe Guilin Rice Noodles, it was well worth the price. My bowl of noodles was enough for me to split into two meals if I wanted to. They provide the noodle and soup in separate containers. There was moderate amount of tripe and brisket. The noodles though! They were firm with a slight bouncy texture to it. Doesn't get soggy. My sister had her noodles sitting out for a while because of a work meeting and the noodles stayed firm. Every meal came with a small container of what I think is their house spice. Their house spice is pretty spicy (more than I can handle) so I opted to not add that into my noodles.
Overall, a pretty good meal! I'd come back for some noodles if I'm in Oakland. You probably have to drive around to look for parking though since this is in Chinatown.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
