Last Friday night, we arrived at Hello Kitty's Bats and Cats Masquerade in Culver City only to find a line extending about six miles down the block from where the event was being held. As much as I love that damn cat and all related sundry goodness, there was no way I was standing in that line (too cold), so we bounced. Luckily, I have a very thoughtful bf who noticed the sad ass pout on my face and decided to do the next best thing--drove us down to Rowland Heights so I can "be amongst people who speak Chinese" because he knows that's one of the only things that can raise my spirits. Hah...it's kind of true.
Class 302 is ensconced in one of the many shiny Asian strip malls lining the 60 freeway. It's also the size of a linen closet, so be prepared for a long wait. I'd read about their Taiwanese "snow" ice before and have been looking forward to trying it out, but that evening was particularly frigid and all I could think about was soup soup soup. The Taiwanese dish selection is varied and somewhat obscure, which I enjoyed--I even spied some Danshui fish balls on the menu. They also have barbecued corn with satay sauce and julienned yam fries, which I'll have to try next time.
Anyway, we ordered the satay squid stew with rice noodles, Tainan pork rice bento, and fried stinky tofu with cabbage. Food was all good. We passed on the snow but will definitely return for a second visit.
The service was just okay. I always sense a sort of derision from the girls who work at these types of places, because I don't speak a lick of Taiwanese and they always look at me and giggle and treat me like I'm some kind of invalid. Whatever. Maybe I'm crazy.
Back in high school days, I used to ditch classes and when we get caught, we entered detention room. I wish detention room was like Class 302. Their setting reminds me of Taiwanese elementary class room where huge blackboard was filled with multicolor chinese characters and drawings. Elementary text books are clipped on a cloth string beneath the board and school uniforms are hung-up on the wall. We were seated in wooden school chairs and desk and greeted with school-uniformed waiters.
Not only they have an extraordinary concept of ambiance, their shave ice is to die for! Unlike usual shave ice, their snow ice so flavorful yet super smooth like sorbet. Instead of condense milk drizzle on top of the ice, the milk is actually frozen together with the ice and shaved delicately to create flaky ribbon-like ice. Top that off with chunks of ripe mango, mochi, and condense milk and we welcome mango snow ice heaven!
After saying "Oh my goodness, why I never had this before" for like ten times, the green tea snow ice arrived and I was even more dumbfounded! The green snow ice has a subtle green tea flavor to it, and it's topped with sweet lavish red bean and mochi chunks. I'm hooked!!!
If only classes were like Class 302, I wouldn't mind to be stuck in 6th grade my whole life...

I went here only for their snowy ice (much better than shaved ice).
YUM! Ordered the mango + strawberry one.
I see this becoming a new trend. =9
Fun decor too. =)
Ok I finally got to eat Taiwanese shaved ice at Class 302 and it was alright. Nothing too spectacular about the dish. They make their shaved ice by mixing water with some condensed milk and running it through a machine. In my opinion, snow shaved ice at Class 302 is overhyped. Service still sucks but what do you expect from an Asian restaurant.

Mmmmmm finally Taiwanese establishments decided to bring over the shaved snow concept. I don't know why it took them so long!
I ate here once and the food was alright. I found it to be a little pricier than I'm used to - I prefer the food at Sinbala. Their drinks are really just whatevers too - don't bother getting those.
What Class 302 is really good for is their shaved snow. The green tea/red bean one is really delicious if you don't like things *too* sweet - the green tea shaved snow isn't actually sweetened (or is only slightly sweetened) so it's not overwhelmingly sweet when mixed with all the other stuff. The mango is good too.
I think the biggest problem is, they don't seem to have big enough freezers in the back. Which means, they run out of shaved snow more often than not. I've been here like 3 times (at least) when I've wanted snow but they ran out. Not cool considering I live in Pasadena.
I do have to say that I love the decor - it's so classic Taiwanese it's awesome.
Mmm! Taiwanese snow!
It was a warm day, and all day, we were talking about eating snow. Silly me and my fiance, thinking of snow cones or icees... but instead, being brought here for this condensed milk, mango strawberry goodness! And all in a cute classroom setting. I loved the restaurant theme and decoration. Service was a little slow, or maybe it's because the place was busy, but I forgot about that once I dug in.
My Taiwanese friends took me for lunch one day. We ordered both regular entree dishes along with some of the shaved ice show stuff that they apparently do really well.
The entree dishes were some kind of chicken dish and some hot dog/sausage thing. I really didn't know exactly what was going on, as my friend ordered for us in Chinese. The dishes come out and I would probably rate them as pretty mediocre. Maybe this place is trying to go for the "nostalgic" kind taste value? I'm not Taiwanese, so maybe I'm not really Class 302's target demographic. Anyway. The shaved ice was pretty ridiculously good, but the entrees weren't anything special.
Warning! The seats and desk are ridiculously small, so if you are a guy of normal height and proportion, it will be an epic struggle to get into your seat. And out of it. Truthfully, it was actually kind of fun. I guess it just adds to the experience.
3.5 stars out of 5.
It gets really busy here. I can't believe I didn't know about this place and it's next to the market! The lines do get long so we sat outside. The food is pretty good. Your traditional Taiwanese sausage and they have this chicken dish where it's crispy on the outside. I loved it along with the side vegetables. I think it's really cute how they have it in lunch boxes. Unfortunately, I never got to try the shave ice...now i'm craving for some & getting it tomorrow! =)
Two really neat things about this restaurant:
1. It brought back memories for me since I actually spotted my chinese textbooks in the displays by the giant blackboard.
2. The shaved ice is the best I have ever had. Hands down. Period. End of discussion.
One not so great thing I wish they could change:
1. Lord, the restaurant is tiny. A large party that came long before us had to wait forever in the unbearable heat this past August. The fact that they waited patiently spoke well of the restaurant but still, DAMN!
Overall, still a neat concept. I love the tie in w/ the classroom, and the shaved ice.. I would drive all the way there for it again and again.. I say this, fair reader, even knowing how far I live from the location.
The name is so fitting--Class 302! It's set up to look like a classroom in Taiwan. There's a big chalkboard on the wall with writing all over it, uniforms hung up, big desk-like wooden tables, journals hung up on a clothesline, etc. Super cute!!
Although they do serve food here including cute old school lunch boxes that fit the theme, my bf and I came just to have the much-raved-about SHAVED ICE. There's lots of flavors to choose from but we decided to get the Old Style Shaved Ice and choose our own 5 toppings to put in. We decided to put in almond tofu, rice balls, grass jelly, red bean, and CONDENSED MILK which is CRUCIAL and a MUST-GET!! It's what makes it sweeter and silkier and freakin bomb!! All the toppings were great and complemented each other well!
Okay. I'm not even exaggerating... when I took the first bite, I knew... it was the best shaved ice I had EVER had in my life! And as a Korean, I've had LOTS of patbingsu (shaved ice) in my lifetime but this one really takes the cake! I'm slightly ashamed to say that yes, Taiwan does it better. Sorry to all my KP brothas and sistas out there but really, it was DANG GOOOD! I loved how it was shaved sooo thinly so it felt like I was eating snow, not chunks of ice! Even the portions were HUGE--we definitely couldn't finish it. I think it would have been ideal for 4 to share.
If you like shaved ice, you will love this place!! :) It's a perfect treat for this HOT summer heat!
This is the second time I got piss off by class 302. I have to say that the food is good, but the service just furstrate me.
The frist time, I got pissed off when i went with my cousin. We both order something to eat. My cousin got his food first and I waited. When my cousin was half way through eating his noodle, I still didn't have my order. I asked them where my order was and they said that they didn't know I order something. Uh........
The second time I got pissed off was when I went for shaved ice today. I went with one of my friend to only get snow shaved ice (green tea). I place our name on the list for two and waited 30 minute. Two other people who came after us with 3 people got seat before we did. I was so disappointed that they had snow green tea and I had to wait. I just didn't felt like eating anymore.
This place would only be good if you order out. I would suggest not to dine in.
waiting+bad service=suck
If you're looking for an easy place to get some good traditional Taiwanese, look no further - this restaurant is the perfect stop. Driving through Los Angeles, my girl suggested we stop by here (she had been before) to grab some lunch. She moved from Taiwan a few years ago, and this place brought her memories.
You walk inside and sit at desk tables, just like you would expect in a middle school classroom. On the walls are Taiwanese games you'd find in Taiwanese markets, a chalkboard with the class schedule, and even school uniforms from prestigious schools. The theme of the place will return anyone from Taiwan to back home.
The food itself was delicious, in my opinion; authentic, in hers. She stated that it's hard to find good authentic Taiwanese food in the area (we're in San Diego), so she was very happy to have found this restaurant.
Conveniently located, cheap, delicious, good service...this is definitely a winner. Additional tip: make sure you get the shaved ice! Great dessert, lots of yum.
Class 302 - You get an A+ for shaved ice. I visited Taiwan a few years ago and after eating amazing shaved ice there has not found a place that replicated it to a decent standard here. You have your Guppy House's and your Tea Stations and even PInkberry, but all of their shaved ice ISN'T SHAVED....it's crushed.
Enter Class 302. Their shaved iced is like snow, almost like they shaved all the ice, packed it up and then kind of like rolled them through one of those noodle presses. If the brilliant consistency isn't enough, they infused the ice with the flavors on the menu, instead of just dripping sauce over it! Mine was green tea so the ice has green-tea within it: AMAZING! The condensed milk and red beans on top were perfect, not overwhelmingly sweet and the perfect compliment. They also had huge mochi pieces in the dish. Literally one of the best shaved iced or snow I have ever had. The only bad thing was they only have one left (no other options!) -- everything else must have sold out or something.
I also tried their crispy chicken bites, which were good - I forget what kind of herb they used to spice it up, but it was subtle and the perfect amount of spice.
Finally, I must say the decor is very very cute! Modeled after a Taiwanese classroom it is whimsical and it make me smile. Yay asian things! I can't wait to go back and try more stuff, maybe even bump it up to 5 stars.
Habitual class ditchers, fans of Taiwanese shaved ice...Class 302 is something you absolutely cannot miss. Class 302 is definitely geared for those looking to major in Taiwanese shaved ice consumption. Class 302 offers a wide variety of shaved ice desserts and toppings. It's hardly boring, and there's something about the ice in shaved ice here that's unlike no other shaved ice place. It's thick and creamy (that's what she said) but it's not quite the Hawaiian syrup over ice, shaved ice. Or the shaved ice at Guppies. Red bean, rice balls, mango are among some of the toppings served that make the grade. Class 302 is highly recommended for the summer session -- the hotter the day, the better. One downside is that it is a bit small, and cramped but being in California and given all the budget cuts...it's something you're already used to.
As far as financial aid is concerned, you don't need any for Class 302. Everything is pretty affordable and priced competitively. (Nothing over $6.)
After 3 straight days of trying to get snow ice but instead getting the paper sign that says "out of ice", I finally got to taste the famous shaved snow ice. It looked kind of weird...like wavy layers of phyllo dough lightly piled in a mound. When you dig in, it feels almost dough like....really good though...I'm never going back to regular shaved ice. The ice for the Mango actually tastes like mango!!
The food is ok. The beef noodle soup was good. Although I love sweet potato fries and Japanese pickled plum, the sweet potato fries with plum seasoning was disgusting. Drinks here are ok too...I would much rather have Ten Ren tea.
Very cute asian themed cafe. Food is mediocre but that's not what you come here for. You come here for drinks and dessert!
I've had the shaved snow here and it's amazing. So soft and smooth, basically shaved ice's better half. The green tea was delicious. As for drinks definitely try the taro, it's not too sweet but perfectly creamy. The hazelnut sugar free coffee is delicious as well if you're feeling a bit chilled by the snow.
I had to deduct one star because the last time i tried to come here they were all out of shaved snow!? So disappointing.
I came here on a Saturday night, excited for the snow ice but unfortunately, they had posted a "NO MORE SNOW ICE" sign on their door. This didn't really make sense to me, how did they run out of ice? So being the annoying customer I am, I went inside and asked them if they are "FOR SURE" the snow ice was out. Apparantly they weren't very sure because they just ran out of two toppings, so maybe they should have taken that into consideration before posting such an important sign such as that one?!
The bf and I ordered two entrees: the cold noodles with shredded chicken and the pineapple curry fried rice, both of which I never deemed "taiwanese" but what do I know? All the taiwanese dishes I wanted I couldn't pronounce correctly and didn't know the English equivalent so we just decided to get whatever looked familiar to us. Both were really good, the fried rice was REALLY good actually! It was basically exactly how it sounds: curry + fried rice, with some pineapples and raisins thrown into the mix.
Of course, we ended with the shaved ice, regardless of how stuffed we were after (this was our 2nd dinner since we came here at 10pm)... We got shaved ice with: grass jelly, pudding, passionfruit jelly, rice balls, and red beans... and they give you the syrup on the side to pour as much as you want. I'm still really confused about what kind of syrup it is... now it just tastes like Aunt Jemima's syrup, correct me if I'm wrong? Whatever though... it tastes good, and that's all that matters.
Go for the Shaved Ice, a true rarity incredibly good.
Incredibly rare shaved ice, the ice is actually made from a type of fruit juice or puree, it is extremely flavorful with or without toppings and has a silky smooth texture.
Appetizers are good, beats tap ex and and of the other big name boba / PMT houses.
Hard to get in, worth the wait, small seating area.
Friend recommended this place, so decided to give it a try.
He was waiting for me thanks to traffic..
arrived... The seats and the tables were cute.. they looked just like a classroom.. but then again, im not in elementary school anymore!! can i get grown up chairs please?
Shaved snow was nummie, its different.. in a good way. If you let it melt a little, it almost turns into ice cream.
and.. thats a wrap!
OK... so the rave about this place is their shaved ice... and well we went and tried we weren't impressed.
they have 2 types of shaved ice... the 1st one is almost like shaved ice cream... it was strangly creamy flavored ice... it looks unnatural in that it kinda looks like super thin tissues paper that is all bunched up... we got the strawberry mango one ... it was tastie ... but not right... even when it started to melt it looked weird there was little globs of ... kinda like when you don't stir your powdered milk into your coffee ... i was kinda grossed out...
the classic ice is what most people would think of when you say shaved ice...my problem was they don't really have that many toppings to choose from.. and the topps we did get were flavorless ... we had the custard which was yellow sweet mush... almond tofu... white sweet mush... passion fruit jellies... it's like the jellies you get in the boba drinks... red bean super sweet... and the condense milk... but i don't think there was any condensed milk at all =(
Over all i was very disappointed =(
Oh yeah the service... was craptasic

Alright, the food honestly is not great, but after coming home from Taiwan, I had a huge craving for "Snow Ice" which is totally different from Shaved Ice. Apparently Class 302 has it!!
The snow is sold out quite frequently, so I had to call and check they had it before driving a good 30 minutes for this fluffy smooth dessert.
The snow was awesome! Milky, smooth, snow like... even looks a tad bit like fur. However, once it hits your lips and your mouth, it is pure bliss. Topped with Mangos and Strawberries... we also added a layer of caramel pudding in between the layers.
ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!!!
I can't believe this is the only place in LA that has snow ice. This deserves 5 stars from me baby!
But... again. dont eat the food... oh and the tables are sticky.

I love their shaved snow! It is absolutely delicious and always satisfies my craving. One time I really wanted it and got there at 11 p.m. only to find out they ran out, so come early! Another thing I love is their fried stinky tofu. The sauce is really good, especially with chili. The tea is at best mediocre. Can get a little busy at times and I feel it might be a little overpriced, but service and atmopshere are decent.
If you recently went to Taiwan and discovered the yummy, snow textured shaved ice...you definitely need to visit this place! I think this is the only place that serves this type of shaved ice.
I was a big fan of Sinbala because their toppings taste fresh and their rice balls were so gooey and soft. However, this one is pretty good too. You can order their creations (ie: mango, green tea flavored, etc.), or you can make your own using the original shaved ice texture or the snow texture. I'd definitely recommend the snow texture if you haven't tried it. It literally melts in your mouth. My favorite toppings are almond tofu, grass jelly, red bean, green bean, pudding, and the rice balls.
I don't think anything parallels Taiwan's shaved ice...but this is definitely as good as it gets! Oh, and if you order food there, it comes in metal tin lunch boxes, which my cousin noted is how they eat lunch in Taiwan. Tooooo cute!
I'm a big fan of their shaved ice! Mango Shaved ice with MOCHI please! You have to get there early to get their mango shaved ice, it always sold out at night..! The restaurant is small and its always packed at night but I usually buy to go. Service is okay and their lunch box special is pretty good. Will come back for more and more shaved ice :)
The place is really compact, and I got so lucky to sit next to the heat emitting block that also sits across from the bathroom. No matter, the shaved snow with strawberries and mangoes was so good I could care less about anything else. I will be returning to try all of the other flavors. The green tea shake I got to go was also refreshing.
Haven't tried their food, but the shaved snow is more than enough to earn the 5 stars.
My last review was for the shaved snow alone (5 stars), but I went back for lunch, and like lots of the other reviews here - I have to agree their food is just mediocre at best.
Shredded Chicken Rice: This looks way better than it actually tastes. The chicken was bland so the whole thing just lacked flavor. We left this mostly untouched.
Tai Nan Minced Meat Rice: The minced meat and sauce was pretty good (and not fatty). The "rou song" (dried shredded pork) went well with the mixture, but the peanuts on top was a little weird for this dish.
Pork Wonton Soup: The soup was okay, but the wontons were not good - again no flavor....just some boiled pork wrapped in wonton skins.
Pork Blood Rice Cake: This sounds disgusting, but it was actually the best dish out of everything we ordered. It comes on a stick rolled in a layer of garlic sauce and another layer of crushed peanuts. Delicious.
Overall, I wouldn't come here for the food but I'll still be stopping in for drinks and shaved ice. Be prepared to wait - the restaurant is pretty small and the wait staff is not very efficient, so even a small crowd usually entails at least a 20-25 minute wait.

So i came here last night with my cousins for the very first time, i've never even seen it before! My first thought was that it was quite cramp... The wait time wasn't long at all and once we were seated i was REALLY reminded of how cramp it really is. The cutesy school layout with actual school desks made it incredibly tough to sit down without banging your chair to the person sitting behind you.
After i got all situated and kinda comfy I looked around on the Menu. I wanted to try the stir fry rice with pork, chicken, and shrimps but opted the "Old-School lunch box" or whatevers.. haha they came with some veggies and eggs (YAY EGGSSSS) and i got the one with 2 sides. "Railroad style Pork Chops" (Wtf is that?) and Taiwanese Style Sausage. Overall i think it was pretty good but for 8 bucks i think i'd rather have something more exotic like at Banana Bay, this is more like comfort food.
The waiter didn't speak english very well and i'm not Taiwanese so it was quite a struggle to order our stuff! we had to point to what we wanted on the menu and i wanted to see if he could reccomend a milk tea to me... Not gonna work =[ i ended up getting the 302 Milk Tea which was good but i was trying to avoid black tea... Oh well. My cousin tried ordering a Shabu Shabu entree but the guy said they ran out? After talking to another waitress/cashier luckily it was sorted out. Oh he also said there was no mango left when we asked for a mango smoothie but everyone with shaved ice had mangoes on it??!
FINALLY the deal breaker that made my 3 stars a 4?? SHAVED POWDERY HEAVEN! OMFG.., I was genuinely fooled for a good 5 minutes that i was eating ice cream until my cousin pointed out that it was indeed shaved ice... I've never experienced this before... Extremely finely shaven ice down to a smooth velvety finish perfectly blended with sweetened milk (i think) topped with delicious gobs of condensed milk, syrup, both ripe and unripened mangoes, (which was REALLY good! Not sure if they intended that) and sour strawberries. I'm glad not all the fruits were ripe because the sourness offset all the sugary goodness and added more depth to the dessert... It almost makes me want to give this place a 5 but that darn waiter killed it for me... haha
So anyways, in the future i'd come back for the delicious drinks and shaved ice but the food isn't something i cared for too much, maybe if i were REALLY in the mood for it but otherwise i'd probably go elsewhere. And yes, if you dont speak their language you might have slight issues, and they only take cash!! We had to economize because we didnt know so dont make our same mistake and bring lots of cash!
1) the green tea, red bean, rice cake shaved snow & the strawberry mango snow is still DELISH...ridunkulously DELISH
2) the 1hour wait is effin ridiculous!
3) the fact they seat others before u and give them outdoor seating when they jus walk up altho we checked on ur damn sign in list that we dont MIND outdoor seatin is just...wrong
4) cash only...typical for alot of asian places but still stuuupid
5) cramped seats up the yinyang and i was so annoyed i wanted to sock the couple next to us for arguing over $3....idiots
still best shaved ice snow u will find....hands DOWN

so we stopped by to try the shaved snow here after we had dinner and it was actually pretty darn cool! it really was like eating snow. and if you get the mango shaved snow, it is a yellowish color snow, but that's not a bad thing here. i can see how they tried to have a unique design to the place, making it look like a classroom, but are the desks in the classrooms in Taiwan sticky too? not a big deal. yes they were pretty much filled to capacity when we went, but at the same time, it didn't seem super busy, if that makes sense. i think what i'm trying to say is that the serving staff is a bit understaffed, which makes the two servers run around like students who just realized their exam is tomorrow, and no, they haven't prepared at all.
anyway, if you're tired of froyo, ice cream, boba, starbucks, etc. for dessert, try this place out : )
I have been here 3 times now and have had food, drinks, and shaved ice at every visit. I originally came here because I heard about the snow ice dessert. After getting snow ice from Taiwan's night markets, I was in search of a place in the SGV that serves it. I think I have found the place and I gotta say that it is very comparable.
I think what makes the snow ice so good is that they don't use pure ice shavings. I'm pretty sure the "ice" is actually frozen milk. This gives the dessert a very creamy texture. I have tried both the mango and the chocolate strawberry. Both are really good, but the mango one is a little too "mango-y" for my taste. But I think it would be a mouth orgasm for anyone who is a mango lover. I am more of a chocolate person.
As for the food, I have had their lunch boxes and though they are cute, there is not much to rave about. I also tried both kinds of their stinky tofu (regular fried w/ garlic and marinated veggies and bbq'd on a stick), neither was stinky enough for me, but that may be a good thing for some people ... LOL! The roasted corn is pretty good.
Their drinks are good as well. They have a huge selection. The bobas have a good consistency.
Overall:
Snow Ice - 5 stars
Food - 3.5 stars
Drinks - 4 stars
man these bitches never have shaved (regular/white) snow. we've called weekly, at some point even daily over the past month to check if they have any shaved snow and they're always out!! How can you always run out of your signature item (all the damn time) without thinking that you may need to hike up the supply inevitably!
My cravings have been shot down more times than can be forgiven.
Shame on you class 302.

The hot dishes are nice, seem to be inexpensive. This is the first time I have had Taiwanese Cuisine. The SHAVED ICE is TO DIE FOR! Absolutely great! And even better since summer is here. The mango one is kick-ass, OMG sooooooooooooo good! The shaved ice almost looks like grated cheese, but it's not, lol! :)
I like the classroom theme, although it could be a little tight fit for the big and tall... Be prepared for leg cramps, lol! Try it! It gets a little crowded, so get there early.
I'm not from Taiwan so this is asian food with a theme. The food isn't even that good to me. Maybe its really Taiwanese, so the flavor doesn't fulfill my Canto pilate? But my gf loves this place and she says it reminds her of childhood. Then I think to myself, would I want to eat in a hamburger place themed like my elementary school? Um..no... :)
I've come here a few times (first two times were like a year apart) and...honestly speaking, their food has never changed - or in other words, it hasn't improved one bit.
I mean I know the whole "old time Taiwanese classroom" theme and the whole classic bien dan thing is cute and nostalgic for many, but the food just doesn't hit home for me.
I'm guessing this is a good spot for shaved ice and drinks.
The seating for this place is very small on the inside. There are a few tables for outside seating.
Service is good, don't get me wrong. Food comes out fast. But the food isn't good in my opinion.
The food here is terrible. If this is what Taiwanese food tastes like, I would never eat Taiwanese food again.
So, if you do go to Class 302, stick to the desserts. I didn't try the shaved ice/snow, but a lot of people seem to enjoy them.
came back for more shaved snow...this time they ran out of the regular shaved snow, so we were forced to get mango flavored shaved snow. it was okay. i still prefer the regular one.
the mango shaved snow gets 3stars.

Came here for shaved ice on the way back from Riverside. Out of the large group we had, only 2 of us had been here before.
The place is small. Maybe like... 25-30 people? And the décor... they decided to go with a old Chinese classroom theme. Like, the tables and chairs are just old school small Chinese wooden desks, and they had an assortment of those really old Chinese textbooks as well. The tables and chairs were obviously pre-Yao Ming era.... I could barely get both of my legs in and under the table and desk legs. I ended up turning my chair sideways and sitting sideways. Luckily I was up against the wall and just leaned against it.
They apparently had an assortment of snacks on their menu, but we came specifically for the shaved ice. They had several varieties featuring various fruits and other Chinese desserty items.
Our group unfortunately had to be split into 2, a large table of... 12? and then a table of 4. I was part of the table of 4. Between us, we originally wanted to get one that had mango and mochi balls, but I guess they ran out of mochi balls so we just ended up getting another one that was just mango. We got that and strawberry chocolate.
The mango one came out first and it was a big pile of ripe mangoes on top of the pile of ice that had been doused with condensed milk. But what was really cool was the ice itself and how it was shaved. Instead of being ground into tiny bits, the ice was shaved into thin layers. It looked different but it was pretty cool. We concluded that the ice was a mixture of water and milk, which would've been more conducive to the style of cutting, as even the tiny amount of fat in the milk will help the ice hold its shape, if you will.

The strawberry chocolate then came out and it was a big mound of sliced strawberries and chocolate syrup. And the syrup isn't that cheap Hershey's crap. This was definitely higher quality stuff.

I tried a bite of my friend's green tea shaved ice (as in the ice was made with green tea powder) and that was really good too. I don't live out here, so this wouldn't be the type of place I'd drive out just to get, but with summer upon us, if I ever find myself in the area, I wouldn't coming back.
How do you cool off when it's 100 degrees outside? Eat shaved snow topped with chunks of mango and glutinous rice balls the size of cotton balls. Make sure that the entire mound is covered in condensed milk. Share with a friend to avoid feeling like a fattie. Share with too many friends and you'll feel unsatisfied.
Oh yea, the friend mushrooms are also really good! I saw them on my neighbor's table and they looked crisp and flavorful. Sure enough, the shiitake mushrooms had a crisp batter with yummy seasoning.
Cash only.
I've been hearing my friends rave about this place and how there's always a line and long wait and the food is so much like Taiwan. I finally made it here on a mid-afternoon on a weekday to see what the hype is all about. NO WAIT! That was definitely a plus. We ordered the fried mushrooms, sweet potato fries, pork chop with rice, curry pineapple fried rice and of course, the mango shaved snow with mochi. Everything was yummy! I really liked the fried mushrooms and pork chop with rice. The mango shaved snow is very different and as good as everyone says it is. The decor is cute, like a classroom setting with a chalk board. OK, so I'm a fan. But, if I had to wait an hour each time, it would definitely stop me from coming here. I'll just have to pick an off day and time again the next time I come back.
