I'm giving this 5 stars for breakfast only, so if you're looking for something else, read another review.

Firstly, before I even start with the food..
The service here is fantastic, and friendly, even at the busiest of hours.
You can have the best food in the world, but if I have to sit your place for 30+ minutes and feel neglected/unwanted, you just killed my dining experience. :p
5 Star service.

Okay, now the food:
I ordered French toast, pancakes, and bacon.
All for 13-14 dollars, wha? Yup.

I'm not even going to go into details.
French toast 5 Stars.
Pancakes 4 Stars, they weren't very thick/fluffy, but they were good.
The bacon was.. good bacon, they didn't mess it up like many other places manage to do.

They gave me fresh squeezed orange juice with my french toast/bacon meal and it was a very small quantity, but very good.

I love everything about this place, and will be returning often.
Luckily it's only 2-3 blocks away. :]

I usually have to head to downtown Brooklyn for something relatively unpleasant, like jury duty, so I look forward to visiting a place like Clark's that welcomes its customers with open arms.

Clark's is a warm, friendly diner with a pleasant lunchtime buzz, a waitstaff that doesn't hurry you along, huge portions, and food that actually seems lovingly home-cooked.

I wouldn't come to this area just for Clark's, but I sure am glad it's there when I do.

This local diner is the BEST in the neighborhood. It has great service, good food, and nice workers. The breakfast is great! but if you get too "exotic" with the food it's not the best, keep it simple. overall it's the BOMB!

This is the breakfast go-to place in Brooklyn Heights.  Very cute place - comfortable and not too chic at the same time.  There's usually a wait on the weekends, but it goes quickly.  The staff is very nice and helpful.

WARNING:  If you get the Hungry Man special, that may be your only meal of the day.  Though that may not be a bad thing.

P.S.  Stick to this place for breakfast/brunch - the actual food is not the greatest.

This is an odd little restaurant. I'd love to point out that for my table we had two menus, one saying it started in 1987 and the other said 1897. It created a hilarious conversation.

Anyway, food variety is incredible, everything you can imagine that falls within the realm of american, italian and contemporary food. Price was reasonable and food was good, nothing spectacular though.

The atmosphere is so-so, a lot of college students go there in big groups which can be obnoxious. Certainly not a first date location. But it is a great place to sit and people watch, love the big windows.

Clark's is a class act.

During the weekends, there's a long line out the door for brunch and jam-packed inside.  Yet the owner stands at the front of the line and makes sure to warmly greet every single person as if he's known you for years.  Most of the waitstaff are also just as gracious, and genuinely look happy when they recognize you as a repeat customer.

Their corned beef hash is the best in the city.  Even when you order for delivery, the eggs arrive perfect (not overcooked), and the corned beef isn't smushy.

My favorite dinner entree is the spaghetti carbonara.  I always ask for the bacon extra crispy.  The pink lemonade is actually frozen slush!  Yum!

Went here with co-workers for lunch. It was alright...

Turkey burgers and fries, and pink lemonade.

The pink lemonade was a surprise because I ordered a lemonade
and got this lovely pink fountain with shaved ice!! It was refreshing and
nice to look at.

Food was good - you get what you expect, it's decent and tastes good.
The turkey patty had nice grill marks on them which made me want to
bite into that burger....

We went around 1pm and waited 5 minutes to be seated. It was crowded
but the servers and host were really good.

Overall I would come here again, but try their wrap sandwiches or
breakfast items.

I feel daft giving a diner 5 stars but on a recent-ish weekend trip to New York this was the only place I went to twice. Funnily enough I got the same table; perfect for watching the world go by.

As a tourist visiting from the UK this is what we imagine a diner to be. No theme...just good food and service.

I had eggs benedict and coffee and then eggs and sausage and pancakes. All were superb. And all were pretty reasonably priced.

Wandering around Brooklyn Heights afterwards I found the place I would like to live in New York. Lack of visa, employment and money means I have no chance but it's nice to dream!

This is a quintessential New York City diner with one exception: you won't feel like a bloated pig when you leave!

Anything fried comes out light and fresh -- they apparently change their frying oil regularly. Anything grilled is also light and fresh.

The place is clean and bright, WQXR (NY classical station) plays lightly in the background, and like any good diner, the menu is incredibly vast.

BONUS: super cheap beer!! $3.25 for an ice cold bottle and a tall glass.

Some here say they think it's pricey, but I totally disagree -- for the portion size (very shareable if you're not into giant meals) and the fact that it's New York, I think the prices are great.

Warren's brother lives just across the street from the diner and he considered this his haunt.  I am always hearing rave reviews from him, so when we were over in the Heights the other night trying to decide where to eat for dinner, Andrew suggested Clarks.  I could not have been any more pleased with the suggestion.
While Andrew said Clarks is really happening on the weekends for brunch, I thought the laid back, quiet atmosphere of Clarks on a Saturday night was welcoming (seeing as I had to work that day and was completely exhausted from the other night out on the town....).
The diner is small and the large windows are great to people watch.
While I would have had a more attentive and happy server, he remembered Andrew by name and opined if he was going to get the same thing as usual - a nice touch.
I am a total tuna slut, and the triple decker tuna sandwich with frenched fries was what I was craving.  The tuna was good - I think I tasted a hint of dill in the tuna with mustard seed - and while the sandwich was a little too high to eat in one bite, I always pick my sandwiches apart and eat them in sections, so it really did not bother me.  The frenched fires were light, airy, and not too greasy.
I would suggest not getting a side salad - just looking at Warren's made me feel sad for the poor, wilted lettuce, and the uninspired arrandgement of veggies.
The vegetable soup on the other hand was good - just your normal, diner fare.
The prices are cheap and the food was good - will definetely have to come back from brunch before Andrew leaves the Heights for bigger and better things.

if you are looking for a big, american, diner kind of breakfast then head over to Clark's alright.   I live closer to Tom's in Prospect Heights but there's to much drama there for a cup of coffee and some eggs.  Clark's is easy -- good prices, more space than Tom's, the service is OK - but hey aren't you going for pancakes -- if you want service go somewhere in the city and pay $40 for breakfast w/fresh squeezed juice.  Clarks is fast in - fast out == you can pay $10 - 15 for a good breakfast and a cup of coffee.

Another note:  do you have folks visiting - this is a good spot to go have a cheap/big breakfast -- then walk down the street and see some great sites.......walk along the waterfront and to the brooklyn bridge its great.

I love Clark's!

It's a tad on the pricey side, but the atmosphere is awesome; it has become my standard. The place is small, but not too small, well decorated with the classical station playing low for ambiance. The wait staff is friendly and consistent (and while we're not on a first name basis, many of the waiters recognize me when I walk in, which is a nice touch), and the food never takes "too" long to come out.

Food wise, I've yet to be "really" disappointed with a meal I've had there. I usually stick to breakfast items, specifically the Western with Cheese, wheat toast, banana pancakes, french toast and the like. The lunch and dinner items are not bad either though. My only complaints in that department is a little over pricing. A grilled cheese of any substance (ham, avocado, tomato, etc.) was around $8, and the grilled caesar warp didn't feel like it justified the $7 or $8 price tag. Although, this could be remedied by soup or fried or some such (not free sides mind you).

I have only two real complaints:

1) If you got on weekends, or during lunch rush, there are often many, many, MANY kids in the place, and if your just trying to get a bite before you go off on your day this can be bothersome, as most of the kids are under the age of 7. I think this is because of the many churches and "learning centers" nearby. Whatever, not much I can do about it.

2) They're not open long enough! It's a diner, but it's a step above, and isn't open 24 hours. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted a good meal at 3am and had to resort to "Crappy Days" or that other place.

If you're in the heights, GO! There is something for everyone, and despite not being open 24 hrs, you can get breakfast as long as they're open.

A diner, but a little more "upscale" (if that is at all possible) than your regular diner.

Not crowded at all for dinner, but I haven't been here for breakfast, when I imagine the major crowds are.

This isn't a bad place to go to before St. Ann's if you are looking to save a little money and don't want to shell it out for one of the nicer places on Henry.

It's typical diner fare, but they do have a wider selection of pasta and some decent lunch specials.

A longtime neighborhood gem where you can get coffee, OJ, eggs, and toast for $4.35 and in about two minutes. The food is fresh, the servers efficient and friendly. On my second visit, the guy behind the bar already asked if I wanted the same as last time.

Skip that stale bagel from the cart and stop in here for breakfast instead when you know it's gonna be *that* kind of day.

If you're in the area and in the mood for diner food, this is probably your best pick. I usually come here for breakfast but I've gotten dinner here before too, and it's also good. Very true about there being long lines on the weekend...but if it's mid-day and you're lucky, you can get a window seat and people watch. The pea soup is really good. The food is light, not terribly greasy and it sure beats the Park Plaza diner...

So good!  You know, I usually expect a pretty generic meal and atmosphere when i hit up diners, but Clark's proved to be a quality, intimate brunch experience despite the weekend crowds.  I was intimidated when i saw the line of people waiting for a table at 1pm on a Sunday and almost walked out.  However, the owner came right up to us & assured us the wait would be short.  He was right.  Tables turn quickly, so we only waited abot 5 minutes.  Furthermore, the owner/host came by multiple times to check in on us, which made us feel right at home.

The window tables are great & provided a great view for people watching down Henry St.  Service was good, and there was an all-around friendly, cozy vibe.

Pancakes are a must and a good value - I could only eat half of my plate.  i had them with walnuts mixed in - added a delicious crunch!  I was also very impressed with the sausage.  A little crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked.

I went here a few months ago with my mom for breakfast while she was visiting new york and I was pretty disappointed. I ordered the eggs benedict and my mom got the french toast. When my eggs benny arrived the eggs were under-poached. One of the eggs was even a little bit raw on the edges, GROSS! I broke open the other one and it was runny all over the place. A poached egg like that should be soft boiled with just a bit of run at the center. I asked that the eggs be poached longer and when they arrived the second time they were still runny. UGH!!! F this place. Never going back again. My mom liked her french toast so I'm giving it two stars.

When I first moved to the neighborhood I went here a lot, but being from Long Island, the land of diners I lost interest pretty quick.

On the weekends the place is jammed in the mornings so if you are solo, just head over to the bar and grab yourself a seat.  I must give credit where its due and they really deserve it for their breakfasts as its awesome. Good coffee, and the service is usually very good.  For the wine drinkers out there, they seem to have a helluva lot of wine on the shelves, at if my memory services correct, it was about 30 bottles of Yellow Tail.  Go figure.

Prices are about average for a typical diner, but if you want the real diner feel, walk two blocks to the Park Plaza Diner.

We love Clarks!    This is the best diner in the Heights by far!  Good and fast service, always polite and flexible with needs (especially of families).  It is sometimes very crowded but you are seated fairly quickly and it is always worth the wait.

Decent for a meal, great for a weekend brunch.

I actually like the low-key sunny Brooklyn ambiance more than the food.  Their hash browns are really not very good, so minus a star for that.

A great family owned diner, my husband and I have been going to this place for about 10 years now, it's becoming our weekend routine.  I love the extensive breakfast menu they have and the best is the service.  They know us by name and before we even sat down the coffees are on the table waiting.  You can beat that!  Food is great, quality is very consistent, I love their Belgium waffles for breakfast, split pea soup and gyro for lunch.

(3.5 stars) Nice and very clean diner in a very beautiful area of Brooklyn Heights a couple blocks from the Promenade and a short walk to the Brooklyn Bridge. Prices are reasonable (expect to pay $9-15 for a good breakfast) and the portions are good. The french toast, though they put way too much cinnamon on it was still very good and this was the first time in a diner that I got perfect crispy bacon without making a special request for it. I was a little dissapointed to see baskets of pre-packaged goods like cookies  and pound cake but the delicious looking menu makes up for it.

really though, it's a 3.5...
the waiter was horrible. maybe we caught him on a bad day; perhaps he missed the subway to work this morning and got yelled at by the boss; perhaps his wife didn't put out last nite; or perhaps he's distraught that obama didn't take texas and ohio....who knows. whatever it is buddy, don't take that out on us. scrambled eggs sounds nothing like strawberries- well not really. but if you bring out the wrong item, don't say, "well it sounded like you said strawberries." no where in the book of good customer service would it say that that is an appropriate comment to make.

anyways...the belgium waffle was good. the french toast looked good. i didn't care for my home fries- they cooked it with onions. i don't eat onions. the orange juice was cool.

the older gentleman who assisted us at the register was nice. he pushed the rating up to 4 stars.

Clark's gets packed on the weekends, but it slows down for dinner. I recommend it because the prices are pretty decent and I love the diner menu with the restaurant atmosphere. The waiters are all really nice and the service is excellent. I'm a big fan of the breakfast and they have awesome grilled cheese- mozz, pesto and tomato on sourdough is the best, but I'd say try an Italian restaurant if pasta's what you're in the mood for.

we overshot chelsea on the MTA and ended up in brooklyn hts, but we found Clark's by accident, and we got the last small table before it packed up (it was sunday for lunch).  Despite the crowd, the service was fine; the challah french toast was very cinsmmon (wish they had a better syrup), and I liked the meatloaf grilled cheese sandwich, although I thought I would get a thicker slice of meatloaf..  The crowd was so intense, I felt a little rushed, but it made it feel just like New York.

A diner is a diner is a diner, right?  Well, not always.  Clarke's really is a higher level diner.  You can get great omelletes, pancakes, and waffles for breakfast.  They also have an amazing turkey burger.   It really is packed on Saturday and Sunday morning for brunch so be warned that you'll have to wait.  And they deliver....early.  It is my first choice in Brooklyn Heights for breakfast but I'm unsure if I'd go for dinner.  There are better places in the Heights for this.

A 5 star NYC neighborhood diner. They serve it up fast & fresh, smiling all the while, and run an extremely tight ship. They are so efficient and speedy as to ensure everyone's satisfaction. They also have great diner grub, with a slight bit of Greek influence - you can get gyros or chicken souvlaki with genuine tzatziki here (I believe the owners are Greek). They  have tons of salads and sandwiches, a full menu of pasta dishes, and all the breakfast options you could want; this is a place for corned beef hash over eggs benedict though, which is how it should be in a diner. They also have beer & wine. Bonus.

I met a college pal of mine here for a lunch date.  It was super good and tasty.  The menu was simple and boasted decent prices.  An $8 lunch deal got me a yummy chicken wrap, cup of soup, an ice tea, and rich chocolate pudding to round it all off!  A nice price for a filling meal.  The sauce on the wrap was super good but very garlicky, so be warned if you're concerned about that kind of thing.
