Clarion Hotel
1 review for Clarion Hotel
On 02/16/08 my mother, aunt, sister, and myself checked into this hotel around 10pm after a long flight from Cleveland Ohio . As vacation time in academic medicine is very limited, I had orchestrated this trip on a budget of both time and finances, intending it to be a nice chance to relax with the people closest to me. The trip was booked months in advance through http://travelocity.com and the hotel was selected for its relatively centralized location between Anaheim and Los Angeles, plus the good reviews on travelocity's site. What we experienced, however, was anything but 'good.'
Originally calling around 1:00pm Pacific time to be sure our late check-in would be okay, I noted that the phone went unanswered for more than 12 minutes, despite multiple rounds of ringing followed
by the voice-recording. Eventually getting through, the lady was [leasant and informed us that the time would not be a problem.
On arrival to the hotel, we were instantly struck by the relatively poor appearance of the parking lot and number of trucks located in back. Walking in the door, I was greeted by a pleasant young woman who despite being harassed by a surly (and clearly intoxicated) patron answered a few minor questions and got us checked in without event. From this point onward, however, the visit took a turn for the worst.
Walking down the hallway there was a notable number of loud rooms, beer cans piled outsided of doors, and 3 strangely dressed women hanging around the hallways. My sister joked that the ladies looked like a prostitutes......little did we know that she was likely correct in this assumption.
All was relatively quiet until around 12:45am and the four of us had little trouble falling asleep. Around 12:45 , however, the noise next door picked up. In the room next door were at least 2 distinctive male voices and 2+ female voices. Over the course of the next hour my family and I were treated to extremely vulgar conversation and loud sex including the phrases "f*** me" repeated in excess of 20 times. I understand that your company cannot control this, however what happened next is not excusable.
In hopes of getting some sleep, the front desk was called.....no answer for 10 minutes. At this time I utilized my cellular phone to call the desk, put on some shoes and walked down to the desk. Behind the desk was a tall African American gentleman who appeared exhausted, but awake. When asked why the phone was not being answered, he replied "it ain't ringning" at this time he then looked
down at the flashing light on the switchbox and said 'oh.' Okay, I thought, perhaps he didn't realize it was on silence or had dozed off. I next proceeded to explain to him the situation going on in the room next door and his response was "what do you want me to do about it?" I suggested perhaps he simply ask them to keep it down, to which I received a "I can't do that bro" as an answer. I then inquired about security to which he responded "nope, they paid for the room, they can do what they want." As the activity was disruptive and likely illegal and he appeared uninterested in any form of assistance, I asked if I should call the police: "Do what ya gotta do, bro" was his answer. I asked if I could speak to a manager...."no manager till 8:30am."
Understandably upset I returned to my room and knocked on my neighbor's door.....no response, just continued loud swearing. At this point I did indeed call the police, which felt ridiculous considering the fact that all of this could have been handled by the staff. The police said they were busy but would send someone out as soon as available. To be honest, I do not know if this was ever done.
As I had pre-paid for a 3 day stay at this hotel through travelocity, I next called travelocity to find out what could be done. While the individual (Identifying himself only as Roger) at travelocity was indeed extremely helpful and managed to find us a new hotel, he could not officially make the transfer until he spoke to someone at your Clarion. As was the case twice previously, no one at the front desk answered the phone when Roger called them and I was forced to walk up to the
front desk again to ask the deskman to answer the phone. During this trip, I personally watched the light on the phone flicker as the desk attendant ignored it and talked to another individual trying to check out. When I politely asked him to answer the phone, the other patron aggressively suggested I 'wait my f***ing turn' and 'keep the f*** out of his way.' Not wanting any further trouble, I returned to my room and continued to work with travelocity's Roger until things were
ironed out for us to check out first thing in the morning and switch hotels to someplace else for the next 2 days.
