Diamond Bar, CA
I go here almost every weekend and always get the same drink - the #31 (Raspberry Lime Rickie)... I like my drinks sweet, but also a little tart, and this smoothie is heavenly. As some have mentioned before, $4.75 might be a little pricey, but the smoothie is far better than anything I've had at Juice It Up/Robek's/Jamba.
Trust me on this - get the #31. -
Review from Ken C.
For $4.75, you get a 24 oz smoothie. It's kind of expensive for what it is, but I like their Strawberry-Banana smoothie. The reason being that they use strawberry juice rather than apple juice as their base for the smoothie. This minor detail makes all the difference in the world. (For most places, you'll find that they use apple juice as the base for a strawberry smoothie due to its price/accessibility).
Even though it's kind of pricey, their strawberry-banana smoothie is one of my favorite smoothies anywhere. This place is located in old town claremont, across the street from the locally popular "some crust bakery". -

Always a treat to stop for a sandwich and a smoothie!
Linda, the owner, is delightful and so careful about her staff's service and preparation. The ingredients are fresh and some of the fruit is locally sourced. Prices are fair for the quality, portion, and taste.
Stopped by for a quick OJ smoothie with cold-busting boosters. Yum! -

Claremont, CA
My friend and I decided to go here to recharge after jogging around the village. Employees were friendly but the service can be sort of slow given their limited number. It seems like the typical family-owned business in Claremont. I got the Mckenna Beach (felt obligated since that's my school) (24 oz - $4.75). They also have other drinks named after various Claremont Colleges but one was missing (Pitzer?). My friend got fresh-squeezed orange juice and claimed it was nothing to write home about. The menu is huge and they also serve sandwiches. Overall the smoothie was just okay. I would go again to try their sandwiches.

Large menu of choices for smoothies and sandwiches. I got the #31 (Raspberry Lime Rickie) for $ 4.75. Since it was my first time in there I asked the guy for recommendations for a sour/tart smoothie. Guy knew his stuff, plus he was friendly and quick with my order.

Good fresh ingredients, yummy sandwiches and smoothies are ok.
I'll be honest I've stuck with the Tangy Banana #10 ever since I messed up and got the Mermaid Tail smoothie. Tangy Banana is the way to go!
I would suggest somewhere else on a busy day if you're ordering food, they can take up to 30 min which was frustrating, especially when you're starving. -

Claremont, CA
This place needs new management. And a completely new staff. And a new menu board. Just terrible!
I've never experienced such stupid inefficiency. Its amazing people come here. I guess people LIKE waiting 40 MINUTES for a sub-par sandwich when the place is only half full....
3 People pushing out 1 sandwich every 8 minutes... I don't think so. When I worked behind the counter in my cafe I could spit out 6 sandwiches in that same time when I worked alone... that includes the 4 minute grill time on the panini press.
wow. you guys are just awful !! -

To keep this review short, this is my usual place to get smoothies. They're quite good though a tad on the expensive side.

Great sandwiches + smoothies!
Went to Claremont Village today and what do I find? A pretty awesome sandwich place. Podge's has a a very small interior full of color (very artsy/eclectic) and fresh with a really cool menu board. But a little pricey.
There are so many sandwich and smoothie options. I picked the Big Veggie Sandwich and added hummus + an all fruit smoothie. What I liked about the sandwich was that it tasted homemade. It had fresh produce and the hummus was so delicious definitely not the hummus you buy at the grocery store.
I will definitely go there again. So good! -

The smoothies are good! The sandwiches are good! It's got a great relaxed feel to it and it's clear these people want to give you the best food they can.
Try the Hummus and Avocado sandwich and the Little Mermaid smoothie. DE-LI-CIOUS! -

Claremont Juice Co has a very wide selection of sandwiches and smoothies/juices. There was a short wait to order during lunch on a thursday. The salmon sandwich on wheat was really good. I love putting sprouts in my sandwiches :) yummmmy.
I got the 1/2 sandwich + salad combo. It came out to $9.01 (I think they charged a bit extra fro avocado in the sandwich). The salad was romaine lettuce chopped up....no dressing...until I asked for some. It also comes with a little orange slice and a little mint chocolate stick. My friend got the side of soup (tomato vegetable). It looked sooooo good, I'll probably get a soup the next time I go. It was a little pricy for a sandwich.....I could make one at home.....but the atmosphere and people are nice and the food is delish. -

Montclair, CA
When I went in there were 2 others who all ready had their food. I ordered a smoothie and sandwich which came out to a little over 12 dollars, I was kind of shocked. The smoothie was made right away and was excellent, wasn't so thick you could only get a little at a time like other places. I ordered the BLTA I think it's called? Bacon, tomato, lettuce, and avocado. It kinda took forever, despite the fact I was the only sandwich order there! Like 15 minutes. But it was very good. The guy behind the counter was ok, not super friendly but not rude either. Bottom line, great items but if you're broke and in a hurry go to subway lol

#100 Whenever I used to have a stressful day back at Pomona, Claremont Juice Co. was my go-to place to de-stress. Knowing that they serve only the freshest ingredients made the dining out experience that much easier on me. I usually ordered a smoothie, as well as their Cajun Chicken sandwich (which switched over to an Avocado sandwich when I went vegetarian). More times than not, I made a beeline for their backdoor seating, with its cute awning and fountain. Sitting back there, it's hard to feel stressed about a regular day's worries. It's been a long while since I've been back, but I look fondly on those days. =)

- High quality smoothies (but a bit pricey, around $5)
- Cute back patio area
- Pastrami sandwich is really good. Generous portions.
- Wide selection of chips (Kettle Honey Dijon mustard is my fav)
- Not as long as a wait during lunch time which is nice.
- Pricey considering their lunch meals are about $8-9 with tax (includes 1/2 a sandwich, chips, and a drink). -

Gettysburg, PA
I went here for lunch with a professor, and it's pretty good. I got a half tomato and mozzarella sandwich and a Pomona Colada (naturally). The sandwich was fine, and the smoothie was yummy. They have so many different smoothies on the menu and the names are so cute. I like that they have all of the Claremont Colleges in the smoothie names. It makes me want to go back to try the different flavors. I liked the smoothie because it wasn't made from a mix and wasn't as thick as something from Jamba Juice. Cute place! I'm sad I didn't start going here earlier in my college career. They are kind of pricey, though. Oh yeah, and if you eat here, sit out back. They have a fountain!

San Francisco, CA
I'm torn about Podge's. On the one hand, their smoothies are made of real fruit, not mysterious pre-made pastes like the Jamba Juice around the corner. They're also very, uh, juice-like - you can actually drink these smoothies. On the other hand, Podge's service can be really terrible sometimes -- I've had literally 20 minutes go by between ordering and getting my juice with nobody else around because the person behind the counter was being as slow as humanly possible.
If you're not in the mood for juice, their sandwiches aren't bad. Not the best in the world, but pretty good for Claremont. -
Review from Michelle P.

If you are ever in the mood for a fresh original smoothie this is your place. I love all the choices you have to choose from and the claremont college inspired names make me smile. You can't really say you have had a smoothie until you have had one here!

Los Angeles, CA
I used to be a fan, but no longer.
Main issues?
1) they are overpriced. Using mediocre bread, then charging as much as they do for sandwiches is criminal. go to full of life, or heck, go to one of the many nice sit down places nearby, and pay only a little more.
2) Sometimes really slow. I recently picked up 4 sandwiches to go on a trip -- needed to get them fairly fast. It took them THIRTY MINUTES, and the smoothies came out instantly, so they were water by the time I got the sandwiches. Yikes. -
Review from Kit W.
I am a fan of their smoothies (and fresh lemonade!) and a bigger fan of their sandwiches. They use good, fresh ingredients here which is why their fare is delish. I love their BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado) and their rotisserie turkey sandwich. Each sandwich comes with two orange wedges that are always so sweet! Great way to start or end a meal! =)

Juice/smoothie/sandwich place in Claremont Village. Good stuff but too expensive for this college student's meager budget.
Extra stars, however, for having super nice owners! They very graciously donated a ton of gift certificates for a nonprofit fundraiser I was working on. If you like smoothies and you have an extra 5 or 6 bucks in your pocket then by all means give Claremont Juice Co. a try. -

Service is hit and miss. I've been here a handful of times and have run into a few newbies that did not know what they were doing. The most memorable person here would be Thai (I think that's how you spell his name). He seems to be one of the few who actually can perfect the drinks. The sandwiches are divine, but very expensive.

Claremont, CA
Podge's is pricey but their sandwiches are good. The Italian club is my favorite there. The smoothies are also pretty good. I concur with the others that the service is slow. If you need to get in and out for lunch in 30 minutes, you may have to suck down the food with great expedience.
Overall, this is a good place to go if you are craving a decent sandwich and a smoothie.
You can also get fresh wheat grass juice, if you aren't satisfied with the chlorophyll content of your local park's grass. :) Moooooooooooooo! -

Torrance, CA
This place first opened when I was still an undergrad at nearby Claremont McKenna College. Back then, anything catering to a younger demographic was an absolute rarity, so the thought of a smoothie shop opening up in the Claremont Village was a welcome change of pace. I found myself at the place practically every other day--I'd swing by on the way to class and pick up a smoothie to fend off any stomach growling during particularly slow or long classes.
Recently was back in the area visiting the campus and decided to take a stroll through the village again to see how it'd change, if at all. Things were both eerily familiar but also new. So I explored around a bit, and bam, found my old favorite haunt. Decided to pick up a smoothie before heading back home to LA. The menu no longer being intimately familiar, I just picked the first thing that sounded good.
Perhaps I've just grown older and my tastes have shifted. Perhaps I used to love the juice company just because it was convenient. But all in all, the smoothie wasn't quite as good as I remembered. Not bad, but not what I remembered either--I would have preferred to have just gone a few minutes away over to the local Juice It Up franchise. The place still had a certain small town charm to it--it just didn't quite live up to my fond memories of it taste wise. -

Went for the first time today & loved it! Been eating nearby for years & had no idea they had a patio. Food all tasted very fresh, staff was very friendly & helpful. Definitely will go back. Didn't get a smoothie. Only half chicken sandwich and salad.

Perhaps the best sandwiches in the village. Be sure to get a side of salad dressing for dipping. While the smoothies are pretty good, they're also expensive. You can't beat their fresh lemonade in terms of value.

The Claremont Juice Company (yeah, I call it Podge's, too) is a fantastic place for lunch or a snack, although sitting inside can sometimes be a poor choice for lunchtime conversation, 'cause of the blenders running. Not a problem, though, because there are a few little tables outside the door, as well as a pretty patio in the back with umbrella tables and plants.
Podge's has a gigantic smoothie menu, from super healthy to chocolate/peanut butter, and, as Jessica H. said, plenty of your expected additives (bee pollen, protein powder, etc.). They used to give you two additives for free, although I'm not sure if that's still offered. There's a smoothie named for each of the Claremont Colleges, which I think is a nice touch, considering they're about four blocks away. Podge's doesn't really sweeten their lemonade, so you can adjust it to the sweetness you like. If you're like me, you'll need quite a few sugar packets. The sandwich menu is also huge, and, once again (dammit, Jessica!)(incidentally, I can curse her 'cause she's my BFF), the avocado hummus sandwich is great, and there are about half a dozen kinds of bread to choose from. You can also get half sandwiches, and every sandwich comes with a slice of orange and a peppermint patty, I love that. You can get your sandwich to go.
One thing Jessica DIDN'T address (pbbbt) is the baked goods. Oh, the baked goods, particularly the brownies. SO. GOOD. So rich and chocolatey, you might want to split one with someone, but then again, you won't want to, so tell anyone you're with to get their own. Podge's also offers homemade muffins, cookies and vegan cookies. The service is fast and I've never had my order screwed up.
Man, I wish I didn't live an hour away, I could go for a sandwich and smoothie right now.Listed in: my fave LA veggie places

You may also know this place as Podges (I don't know when they changed their name, or maybe it's just "Podges Claremont Juice Company"). Excellent smoothies and sandwiches. They make a hummus and avocado sandwich that's probably one of my favorite sandwiches ever. The smoothies come in a wide variety ranging from healthy fruit and vegetable smoothies to more milkshake-like concoctions. Like any good juice place, a full selection of vitamins and additives are also available to keep you healthy.

They have a large menu of smoothies as well as sandwiches. I get my sandwiches here on a regular basis. Their BLTA (Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Avocado) on rye is amazing. Be careful, because during lunch, you'll be standing in a line to order and then get your sandwich. As for the smoothies? I suggest a Little Mermaid :)

Yummy smoothies! I'd happily go there for those alone, and have on many occasions. The school-themed ones tickle my fancy, and everything I've ever had has been delicious. The sandwiches, while not as plentiful in variety, are nonetheless just as tasty. The BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) is simply sublime. I am sorry I don't live in Claremont anymore or I would be on my way to get one already. A bit pricey, but worth it if you aren't trying to live off them!

I tried to like this place. I wanted to like this place. But when I would get a smoothie, the people behind the counter kept scooping the fruit into my cup with their hands. After this happened twice, I quasi-sheepishly complained to the guy who owned it. He was apologetic. So I gave it one last shot, and, well, it happened again. I haven't been back since. I really tried, though. It's cute. It's locally owned. If I could add Purell rather than the bee pollen to my smoothie, it might not bother me. But it does.

I'm giving this place 3 1/2 stars + 1/2 star for being independent (I'm biased towards mom n pop places even though Jamba Juice makes some bomb smoothies)
This place has a HUGE selection of a lot of smoothies and they give you pretty large portions with everything. I had a hot pastrami sandwich and it was delicious even though it didn't look too good. The only problem with the food/smoothies is that its a bit too expensive. The juice is amazing but it hurts paying over 3 dollars for a small glass of OJ.
Aside from the food, here are my complaints. When I went into today, the people were pretty rude. I don't get pissed very often and my stomach has much more of an influence on my ratings than the service but this irked me. First the lady was very unresponsive and ignored me while I stood in line because she was doing something else. A "one second" would have done fine. When she finally took my order looking like she wanted to take her brake more than ever she asked me my name and I said "Alejandro". She quickly said "I'm gonna call you alex" and wrote down alex because she was too lazy to spell it out. I usually say alex because I understand it can be a pain to write out my name but the was she did it was pretty rude. Oh well, i'm over it but it kinda tainted my experience there. Also, they took their time and the blenders are loud.
...
good food though. haha. -

this place is cute - but only if you aren't staying to eat there.
the best thing on the menu is the italian/club sandwich thingy, but i'll echo the others and say that everything here is overpriced. and the service sucks. if you're there on a good day, you might get a smile, but otherwise, the staff is totally full of themselves and make you feel like they're doing you a favor by taking your order.
don't go if you're in a hurry, either. i killed 3/4 of a lunch hour waiting for food once. i'm glad i don't work in the area anymore. -

Podge's sandwiches are delicious. I've only have like 4 or 5 different ones, but they were all tasty!
The have a HUGE selection of smoothies as well, and I have never been disappointed with my smoothies.
Due to other juice places moving into the village area, Podge's has increased prices and they now close later. Everyone I know thinks that Podge's is too expensive, and it might just be true.
On a good day, I don't mind paying the price of a sandwich...but if you're low on money and you want a cheap and tasty place to eat (that will fill you up,) you might be better off going elsewhere.
Podge's smoothies are much much better than jamba juice, in my opinion, and I haven't gone back to Jamba Juice since the first time I went to Podge's. -

I won't lie. I have never actually consumed anything from this place, because upon entry I am overwhelmed and nauseated by the smell of bunches of over-ripe bananas, which are hanging all over the place. The bananas don't add too much, aesthetically speaking, to make up for this intense smell. Is this really necessary, I ask you?

Podge's prices are a little on the steep side for sandwiches, especially because they are a little small. Yet other than they, they are delicious. They are always friendly here, and everything I have ordered has been delicious (except for the iced coffee- Don't order it, trust me). The lemonade is delicious, fresh squeezed and only $2. They always include an orange slice and a piece of chocolate when I order a sandwich, too. Overall, this is a good place to stop in for a variety of sandwiches and smoothies when your in Claremont.

I really need to eat at Podges more often. I don't go because their smoothies are pricey. However, they have very good smoothies and more choices than Jamba Juice. They don't blend their smoothies well, but sometimes I like fruit chunks in my smoothie. Their sandwiches are tasty and the fresh mozzarella one is excellent. The sandwiches come in halves or whole but it is probably worth it to fork over the extra few bucks for a whole sandwich. They also sell whole pickles. Don't waste your money on wheatgrass, get an actual smoothie. The help is always fairly nice.
