I grew up eating sally lings as a little kid.  So when i found out that Chef Sau opened Ck Shanghai right down the street i had to check it out. They serve authentic hong kong and shanghai style cuisine!  This is what Wellesley has been missing! I will be back. They also have alot of the american stuff which seemed to be ordered a lot. I noticed a few of the tables ordering the crispy tangerine shrimp dish.  The shrimps looked pretty huge.

My Food:
Lobster in Scallion and Ginger was amazing! (I normally eat this during chinese new year)

The Crispy Duck was a little expensive! $34 but i loved it! skin was really crispy and the meat was nice and juicy.

Ma La Calamari...i only had this dish once in chengdu...and they do a mean version. It had alot of sichuan peppercorn which i love!  The numb factor was just right for my taste.

If only i found about you sooner!

Nice food and a different experience than normal chinese restaurant.  Small, but nice service and fresh food.  More expensive than average with small portions, but definitely worth the experience.  Try it at least once.  Don't go during standard times, though.  Very small waiting area and folks waiting for take-out crowd the small bar and interfere with your experience in 1/4 the restaurant.

I went to CK Shanghai today for lunch and it was an incredible experience.  Service was great, fast, and friendly.  I feel that if you're out to lunch on a business meeting lunch should be fast, tasty, and affordable.

Service at CK Shanghai was incredibly attentive, but not too attentive where you feel like the server is trying to join your conversation.

The lunch menu is great - not only do they have a great selection of healthy chinese food, but almost all the plates are priced at $8.

Overall, if you're in the Wellesley area I recommend checking out CK Shanghai.

Surprised to see any stellar reviews at all.  Yes, it's a nice, neat place in a rich town, and the food is a little fresher, a little lighter, a little more expensive, but it's still suburban, Americanized generic Chinese food.  There are two basic subtypes in this category: good ones and lame ones.  This is a good one, but it's not very interesting.  At least not for me, who has been to China five times, nor for my wife, who is from China.  We noticed the same beef in both dishes that had beef.  Just a seemingly typical mix and match of meats and sauces and vegetables.  Don't see that with authentic Chinese food.  Good enough, but no special reason to go back there.

CK Shanghai is a clean, well-lit place. Unfortunately, it is not a good environment to conduct business in from my experience. I had booked a meeting here before for a party of about 8 and got a set of seats in the middle of the restaraunt, arranged in a row. The cacophony in the restaurant made it very difficult to talk, the effect of the room making it only possible to lean over and talk to the person beside or in front of me. The food was better at the chef's old restaurant in Chinatown, since it was less catered in taste. The dishes all seem oversauced, the rest of the dish merely a medium for them. It has been a while (about 2 years), so I can not go into excrutiating detail, but I remember the ma po tofu in a sauce with a sharp raw pepper kick, but not really having flavor beyond being 'salty' and not being able to taste the fish in the whole hunan fish over the sauce, the sauce being more raw 'savory' than filled with spices. For such a dish, I'd much rather go to Bernard's about 10 minutes away, where the balance is much better achieved and refined.

In terms of the service, I remember having to constantly ask the waiters for water and needing to flag them down several times before getting a response. At least they keep the floors and tables clean.

I was disappointed with the food and the service.

The waitress was not friendly at all and that really dampened by appetite. I had some chicken and veggies but the chicken was dry and flavorless.

If you are too damn lazy to get in your car and drive yourself into town, then you deserve what you get -- a Sino-American blend of not-quite authentic dishes and the best hits of US Chinese restaurants, 1977-1995.

Mom happens to love this place - what the hell, mom? Didn't I teach you better? When we arrived, I asked if there was another menu. The menu we were given was both pricey, with not a single Chinese character and no dish that I could actually recognize as being typically Shanghainese. The server laughed at us. Seriously, was there another menu? No.

No.

I knew it wasn't going to be good. The clams with black bean sauce featured fermented black beans that were still a bit too hard to the bite. The sauteed pea shoots were good, but at the prices they were charging, anything less than excellent was a rip-off. The tea-smoked duck tasted like it had been hanging in the window of a Chinatown shop for the last 8 hours and wasn't particularly good. The Ma-Po Tofu was lacking in acidity - lord knows that even the tiniest touch of vinegar can turn a dish from dullsville to dyn-0-mite. And our poor tofu was just crying out for it.

Sometimes it is good to check in at a restaurant like CK Shanghai to remember why I like going to a few places in Chinatown when I come back to visit mom.

Not the greasy chinese delivery that is the norm around my neighborhood, and not uber fancy chinese cuisine.
This place is right in the middle and does the trick. A nice dining room and fast service. I work up the street so come for lunch occasionally. Lunch menu and price is great.
$7-$10 for soup, entree and your choice of rice... can't go wrong.

Something about a well known chef...blah, blah, blah.

The food here is WAY over-priced.
But the ambiance is really upscale for a Chinese place.
Seriously, from the table settings, to the tea cups, to the bar.
The place is nice.

I went for lunch and had yu shiang eggplant which is my test for a Chinese restaurant.

Not at all impressive.
The sauce was too sweet and not salty enough and there was hardly any eggplant.
I mean the sauce is my favorite part, but little sauce AND little eggplant?

Give me a break, the overhead can't be THAT bad.
I mean a lunch special should be an immaculate snapshot of what your restaurant can offer so that I come back for dinner.

Needless to say, I never went back for dinner.
Famous or not, the food sucked.

I prefer the fatty and tasty Oriental Great Chow eggplant and tofu down the street any day.

You know how most Chinese food restaurants either smell like fish sauce or floor cleaner?  CK's is SO not one of those Chinese places.  It is one of the only places I can take the boys I babysit who have food allergies.  CK puts a lot of care into his kitchen and his dishes.  If you have allergies or are freaked out by slime in the ice machine you should definitely put it on your list as a quality place where you can trust the chef to make you a legit meal.  CK has been there every single time I've visited and the food is never a let down.  Not too greasy, not too healthy...juuust right.

I've been eating at CK Shanghai for a couple of years, and up until a few weeks ago, I really liked it. But, I brought my wife and mother there a few weeks ago for dinner and we had very poor service, we were erved long after people that came in ahead of us. The food came out tepid at best and the rice was fair. Last week I walked over to CK's from work (about 1 mile) to pick up a lunch, and when I got back the rice was terrible. Usually I eat half a lunch on 2 consecutive days. The food was o bad that I threw the rest away.
Since this is the only Asian restaurant in walking distance, I may go back in a few weeks, but right now it is on my do not recommend list

The food is... okay.  For the duck, shrimp, veggies dishes - not bad, but nothing really to rave about either.

I shouldn't have read the reviews on their website, then my expectations wouldn't have been set so high - was expecting to be wowed.

The proper category for CK Shanghai is "Suburban Chinese", a fairly tasty cuisine with a sophistication level similar to a burger joint. It is peripherally related to various Chinese cuisines.

On the scale of Suburban Chinese this place is excellent, if a tad pricey. The peking raviolis (dumplings) have been very fresh and relatively delicately flavored every time we have visited.

The drinks are good, the staff is professional, and the atmosphere pleasant.  It's really very good for what it is.

I came to Boston looking forward to eat their lobster, but I didn't know I was going to eat the BEST lobster at a Chinese restaurant!

I always thought lobster is overrated. I don't mind eating it but I just never understand what the big deal is. I am so glad I finally got to eat decent lobster in Boston, and I was blown away by the lobster dish I had at CK Shanghai.

Lobster is one of the signature dishes here and it does NOT disappoint. The lobster was super fresh (I believe it was still alive in the kitchen) and super meaty (unlike those sad little lobsters with little tails you see at other places). The texture was perfect without being too soggy or too chewy. The dish was so well done that the sauce was superb while you can still taste that hint of sweetness from the fresh lobster meat. Every ingredient in the dish compliments every other very well. You can take the meat off easily from the shell since it's so fresh. I love the dish so much that I actually managed to finish the whole one pound lobster on the plate all by myself.

We also ordered several other Chinese dishes there and every one of them delivered. Fish was just as fresh as the lobster. The texture was so soft and silky, I almost felt like it could melt in my mouth. Other dishes such as stir fried Lo-Mien, green onion pan cake with shredded chicken and vegetarian goose all left me wanting more. I wish I had a bigger stomach so I could try every signature dish on their menu.

I have been spoiled with good Chinese food in California, but this place still managed to really impress me. I will definitely dine at CK Shanghai next time I visit Boston again.

Decent Chinese food that gets a little weird... Is the food authentic!?  I had one of their duck dishes and the duck meat did not at all resemble duck.  Their Yu Xiang eggplant was too salty and barely touched by a party of 5 people, but everything else was pretty good.

It's definitely on the expensive side (entrees cost $9-15), especially for Chinese food, but it's nothing too exorbitant.

Semi-upscale Chinese food in a lovely setting. They specialize in seafood, which is a bit of a bummer for me because I can't eat most of it (no shellfish anyway), but my boyfriend declared that the pepper scallops are amazing. I ordered a ginger lamb dish with veggies that I thought was quite tasty, and I got a TON of food. The tea was really yummy, service was good. I should add the disclaimer that bf knows one of the owners/managers, so we may have gotten a bit of special treatment (lots of recommendations on what to order, mostly, and a very warm welcome), but I would happily go back any time.

Having the best Asian cuisine in Wellesley is like being the tallest building in Wichita, but I'm a big fan of CK Shanghai. It's less expensive than China Sky and feels less fatty and calorie-laden, even if it probably isn't.

I'm a fan of CK Shanghai's not for authentic Chinese food (which normally I would rave about but this place isn't the place to get it) but rather for the "Americanized Chinese" take out options they do, because the dishes that everyone loves, they do really really well.

I am obsessed with the shredded chicken with hot chili and sesame sauce cold appetizer here.  It is amazing.  Generally, the food here is not your standard freeze&fry Chinese fare.   The high quality of the food and the attention to preparation really make CK Shanghai superior.

this place is all right. i went here with my in-laws and it's definitely the kind of place for that kind of meal. the prices weren't outrageous, but definitely a few bucks per entree over what i would normally pay. my veg meal was tasty but kind of a disappointment (the spicy eggplant), i think because i was mentally comparing it to the eggplant i love at spices II in san francisco, which i admit is kinda unfair. the atmosphere is okay. overall if you are a 30 something person with a kid or two out for a date night with your partner while the babysitter is at home with the kids, this is your kind of place.

i think i'm being unfair. an extra star for being totally unoffensive & not sneaking fish sauce into my food. and for having a parking lot...it's not their fault they're in the suburbs, but at least they make the trip a little easier by having a lot!

The quality of the food is slighty better than an average Chinese takeout but the price is pretty outrageous.  This restaurant reminds me of China Sky in downtown Wellesley, targeting the PF Changs crowd in hip suburban locations.  Note that rice does not come free with any of the dishes.

I've tried lunch there about 3 times (including takeouts) after my asian friend kept raving how she loved this place (She may be bias about it since it's in her hometown).  I was not blown away at all, and as a matter fact, very disappointed.  The first time I had seafood delight lunch special when I'm expecting a light (white) sauce with seafood and vegetables, but instead the skimpy seafood dish was overpowered by dark and salty soy based sauce and very minimal vegetables.  One other time we ordered the peapod shoots sauteed with garlic and not only was it oily but really overcooked (instead of bright greens, it was the dark overcooked green color).  The food is nothing to rave about and the portions are small.  Overall, I thought the food was just average or a tad below average.  Parking can also be tough during lunch hours.  The staff is average and nothing exceptional.  Lunch is still about $8 - $10 per person, which I consider pricey (it doesn't include soup or a chicken wing either).  All in all, it's not really authentic chinese food that you get in Chinatown.
