They hubby and I went for a ride here with our trusty steeds Quick and Chickenman. I was nervous at first, the guide does not ooze warm friendlies...but he is a total pro and matched everyone up with the appropriate horse and took wonderful care of us the whole trip. We had a great time. It was one of the highlights of our trip and I am glad we did it.
The horses appeared to be in good condition and well cared for. The scenery was amazing and the guide even took pics with our cameras for us.
I would happily do it again (and again!). -

Russell is an awesome guide, the facilities are nice and the scenery is awesome! Just don't ride Diamond - that mare just wants to stop and eat every 2 seconds...

Never trust a horse named "Quick and Easy" because trust me, she ain't going to be "quick" or "easy". Quite the opposite in fact, but thankfully that did not deter me from having a great morning horseback riding on the very beautiful island of Kauai.
For years now I've been trying to get hubby on a horse. Can you believe it? Someone who's never been on a horse, not even a pony at the fair a a child? Bizarre.
So on our cruise with two whole days in Kauai, I seized the opportunity to finally put that boy in a saddle.
The ranch is beautiful. Located between the mountains and a terrific ocean view it definitely seems far away from your ordinary life. The ranch hands quickly walked us through the riding basics and matched us up with a horse that best suited our experience. Like someone else mentioned... the video is hilarious and Jim is THE BEST.
The ride took about three hours and truthfully, I could have done with a little less time. My horse, Quick and Easy decided from the get go that she did not want me on her and did not feel like going for a walk. She treated the ride like one big drive-thru restaurant and tried to eat everything in sight. On two occasions she tried to bite other horses. She may have had the horse version of PMS and as a girl I can relate. Everyone has an off day and this was definitely hers!
The views were spectacular. The ride was easy. I could barely stand, let alone walk after I dismounted. Between that and zodiac riding the day before, I felt kind of beat up.
The ranch is very well run. Everyone we encountered was awesome. We got to get up close and personal with a horse and her colt. I love, love, loved the dogs that came with us on our entire adventure. That's some serious stamina!
Probably the most stressful part of my adventure was trying to figure out what to wear the night before since I don't even own a pair of jeans. Somehow I managed to pull it off... and look cute.
Overall, a great experience and I highly recommend even if you've never rode before. Enjoy! -

Much like Colin, I did this one for the girlfriend but I had a fantastic time!
My girlfriend is an animal lover and she wanted to do a horseback ride. We looked into Princeville Stables but since we were staying by Lihue it didn't make sense for us to drive all the way over there.
Maybe you had to be there but I think the funniest part of the trip is when the show you a video narrated by the head cowboy (I forgot his name). He starts off the video by telling people that he is going to check us in in a couple of minutes but first he wants to go through some safety tips. He goes through the tips and at the end of the video; he appears, out of thin-air and walks up and checks us in. There was a few people who had been there before and they were really happy to see him.
C.J., not the owner, was our guide and we had a great time. We did the two hour ride and the horses were so well trained you basically sat there and went along for the ride. I think people forget that Hawaii has a lot of green space and a lot of cows and farming. This ride really re-enforced it again for me.
I would highly recommend CJM stables. I had a great time, took some great photos and videos and the horses are very well treated. -

I was so disappointed. I have been on many different trail rides in various states and this was the worst. Our guide put all the attention on him and a random rental house - to the point that we wondered if he had a share in the house, and the husband of the other couple kept rolling his eyes at me every time the guide spoke. My horse was wonderful, but the guide we had made you so concerned and worried that your horse would just take off and put so much attention on the fact that he was a "real cowboy" that you couldn't really enjoy your surroundings and enjoy the ride. It was the most disappointing excursion we did.

Giddy up, Paniolo!
The view is breathtaking from the trails for some of the way...
But the ride is very slow, and you are only on the beach for a few "moments". That being said, the guides are very cool and friendly, the groups aren't too big and the horses are sweet. Mine was a bit sluggish, but it was cool kicking back at the end of the line. It kinda felt like I was on my own at times, and not with a group of chubby white folk from Arkansas.
They allow time for some awesome photo opportunities, and even take one of you with your own camera if you want 'em to. since the beach you visit is quite a ways away from any paved roads, this is a great way to see it without violating your rental car agreement!
Wish the ride was longer, maybe I'll go for the picnic ride next time...Listed in: Kauai

The CJM Stables are a great adventure! Jim & the wranglers are all knowledgeable and helpful. The scenery was breath taking and diverse, rode over hills and saw grazing cattle and farms on one side and the beautiful Pacific on the other.Rode for an hour to one beach, ate picnic, then rode back different way and rode about 100 yards on a beach. The whole experience was more than expected, and well worth the price for a truly different Hawaiian adventure.

I mainly did this one for the wife on the honeymoon, but I honestly had a great time at CJM. I have never been on a horse before in my life so it was pretty cool to ride one.
The horses are very, very calm and trained. You basically don't have to do anything or tell them where to go... they just know and follow the group/path.
The views are great from the mountains to inside some tree lined areas to right on the beach. Take a camera and the guides are glad to take your picture for you.
The only complaint of mine is that it got a bit long and my butt started to hurt, but I can't complain about getting my money's worth, I suppose.
