I went to city planter when they first opened i think last year?  i absolutely love plants and have over 50 potted plants in my home. I know much more than the average joe about plantlife so I was excited, but I digress....  They had some things on sale - they were moderately priced but not so bad for a little specialty store.  I purchased a couple ferns that I had been searching out for awhile (yeah seriously i'm that lame) and a cute yellow pot that was pretty and on sale.  I don't remember the service being bad, but I don't remember it being good either.  This was my first experience.

A couple weeks ago I went to Honey's which is next door to city planter and on my way out I decided that I'd stop in to see if they had any items on sale.  Also it had looked like they did some remodeling and I wanted to check it out.

I wasn't treated warmly when I entered the store at all.  I'm not sure if this is because they didn't take me seriously as a customer because I looked young and kind of scrubby or what.  I walked around past the owner (I guess?)  and she didn't even acknowledge my presence.  After about ten minutes of getting the cold shoulder i tried to strike up a conversation with her about how her store looked really nice and different since the last time I had been in.  She gave me a one word response and then just walked away.  Hmm.

So ok, I understand some people aren't that great at being warm and friendly but this woman was just cold and rude.  I totally understand the awkward in social situations type of person because I'm one myself, but this woman is just plane lame.  I'm not sure if she treats more 'mature' looking people friendlier or what but I doubt that I'll be returning here to buy anything.

The store is beautiful and wonderful to place to take your time shopping and browsing, thinking about how everything will work together on location.  I purchased 13 planters and dozens of plants.  The girl at the desk was very helpful and very busy.  I made an appointment with her, and she came to my location, took measurements and made great suggestions.  The order went smooth and the job turned out fabulous.  City Planter is one of my favorite shops in the city!

Not sure where the hate is coming from for this place... I'd called up CP and asked them to come over to my place (one block away) and give us some ideas for how to redo our backyard landscape.  Mary and Pete were great, they had awesome ideas and connected us to a landscaper that could help us with hardscaping.  They have interesting pots (including some made from recycled tires - cool, but not my style) and plants and always appeared willing to chat and consult.

I stopped into City Planter this morning, hoping to find something unique to plant my herbs in.

When I walked in the door, the woman working was helping a customer. She didn't even glance up, let alone say hello. I walked around the small store, alone, perused the paltry selection of large and small pottery.

I found a piece I liked toward the back of the shop, near the desk. I turned around to ask the woman working about it, but barely got an "Excuse me?" out of my mouth before she rushed out from behind the desk to help the other customer. I stood there for a few minutes (I really liked the pot) and when she came back to grab something off of the desk I tried to get her attention again, but she ignored me for the third time. At this point, I had been in the store for fifteen minutes and she hadn't bothered to make eye contact.

I walked out of the store with nothing, and reminded myself that someone always says hello at Ikea.
