I think it's heaven.
I (almost) never feel that I need a vacation because I live here.
People are friendly and hardly ever honk here too!
Manhattan Beach is my longest lasting love affair--so far...
It's a nice spot....I can see why my sister would move here. It fits into her current life style......really laid back and homely. Not quite where I'd want to go.....but then again not everyone would want to live in Vegas or NY.
It has a certain charm that one would not associate with gritty LA. I would think it more akin to Los Gatos or downtown Saratoga....
but instead of mountains...a beach.
It's nice...and if I really wanted to get away from the city then I guess I'd go here. I have to admit they have some really good breakfasts and a very relaxed night life.....of course I prefer my night life a little more.....gritty.
Oh well....everything in it's own time.
Being the night person that I am....I don't know if it's the area or just LA..or maybe all of SOCAL....but the sunlight hurts me.....I mean really.....I know what sun light is supposed to look like. But this..it's ridiculous, it's like harsh HARSH white light. ARG!

Just came back to AZ after my 4th or 5th visit to Manhattan Beach... I absolutely love it there. I think I fall more and more in love with Manhattan Beach every visit. It's an amazing feeling to get off the plan at LAX and hop in a cab for 10 minutes and be on the beach... it's quiet and peaceful, has an awesome strand to run, walk, cycle, etc..., adorable stores, fantastic local restaurants and boutiques, chill people, and beautiful homes.
I'm back but we're already planning our next visit to Manhattan Beach!

Manhattan Beach is my favorite beach when I visit LA. It is gorgeous - beautiful clean white sand, gorgeous homes and flowers. The water is clean, easy surf and a long shallow sandy break (good for beginning surfers). It hasn't been crowded and there are also great restaurants and boutiques. And, it is super close to LAX. I really loved staying there.
As I travel around the country, I look and compare it to everything else and have not really come up with a better place to live.
I call it home.

If I were to move back to Los Angeles and wanted to live at the beach, I would pick only 2 places; Malibu and Manhattan. Manhattan is kind of closed in and you have to drive awhile to get to the freeway but if you can stay in Manhattan, it really is wonderful. It has THE BEST BEACH in the South Bay. The strand is fantastic, the local stores and restaurants fun and interesting. The homes are beautiful and very, very expensive though, even if you want to rent one.
So if you are in LA and have never been down or taken a beach trip to Manhattan, take a day and go there. If you can, go the back way behind the airport, it's quicker and more beautiful. Plus, you go right by the fabulous Beach Hut. Stop in for an amazing hawaiian breakfast. YUMMO!

Pretty much the only place I'd wanna live in if I ever moved back to LA. A great downtown area with many chill bars, restaurants and shops.. a nice boardwalk and beach to watch the sunset.. and a clean and gorgeous beach to lay around/play volleyball/ watch hot guys playing volleybal+surf etc. etc. I want to be here 24/7!

Manhattan Beach is a great town. It is strange that no one knows more about it. It is charming, dense, clean, suburban beach with an active but cute downtown. It has nice cosmopolitan type places like korean owned coco noche, high end restaurants like Avenue (supposedly closing soon). It is just a nice place, and I love hanging out there. The homes are beautiful as well.
