Finally some great Memphis style BBQ in Downtown Manchester! The Simon family opened the City Flame Smoke House in August 2007 in the former Geoff's Place, right next door to the Manchester Police Station. It's an order at the counter place with wood table seating in the renovated casual open face brick dining room. Each table has a roll of paper towels, BBQ sauces (hot, medium, original), ketchup, and mustard.

The menu offerings include BBQ plates (smoked chicken, smoked turkey, smoked sausage, St. Louis ribs, pulled pork, & beef brisket), sandwiches, tasty sides, French fries, onion rings, salads, chunky beef chili, BBQ spaghetti, desserts (cake & baklava), Pepsi & Coke products from the cooler, and beer (bottled & draft). The sandwiches (includes one side & pickle) are $6.50 and the plates (includes two sides & corn bread) are $9.50 to $13.00. Not fancy, all of the food is served on paper plates with plastic utensils. The Memphis BBQ at this small restaurant is comparable to Corky's and Interstate Barbecue in Memphis.

My friend and I stopped here for dinner last night. My friend ordered Any Two Meats (chose ribs & pulled pork) with two sides (chose mashed potatoes & roasted red peppers salad) for $13.50 and a Heineken bottle ($4.00). The smoked meats were tender and flavorful with the BBQ sauces on the table. The ribs had more meat than bone, a good thing. The sides were pretty good too. For dessert, the Baklava ($3.00) was very sweet, pretty good!

I ordered a Memphis favorite, the BBQ Spaghetti served with corn bread & cole slaw ($8.00), potato salad ($2.50), French fries ($3.50), and a Diet Pepsi bottle ($2.00). The BBQ Spaghetti (mixture of BBQ & spaghetti sauce mixed with thin spaghetti & pork and topped with grated cheese) was excellent!! The pork was tender with a very smoky BBQ flavored taste over al dente spaghetti. The corn bread was sweet with corn kernels, the cole slaw was good, the potato salad was very creamy, and the fries were hot and crispy with the BK texture. I felt very stuffed after consuming the generous amounts of Memphis BBQ goodness!

The Simon family staff was very friendly and attentive. The son Steve brought our food out to our table quickly and the coowner Ventz checked up on us asking us how the food was. Excellent!! The City Flame Smoke House should do just fine in Manchester amongst the other BBQ places (Famous Dave's and KC's Rib Shack).

    HOURS: Open Monday-Thursday :11:30AM to 7:00PM, Friday: 11:30AM to 8:00PM, Saturday: 12:00PM to 8:00PM, Sunday: Closed

PARKING: Onsite parking available along the north side of the restaurant and metered parking along the street.

You would never guess from eating at this Memphis style BBQ, that the owners are from eastern Europe. I guess this is what happens when a classically trained chef goes to Tennessee to learn how to BBQ. The great thing is he came back to Manch and opened a BBQ. My favorite menu items are the brisket, cucumber salad and smoked sweet potatoes. The portions are large, the prices are very reasonable, and the quality is amazing. The downside, no liquor license. But the upside of the downside is BYOB makes for an even more affordable BBQ experience. If you have kids, definitely order the BBQ spaghetti.
