City Bicycle Works is a cool store - typical bike shop - dudes that ride working the counter and the shop. Usual selection. Good place if you bust a spoke or want new brakes.
One very nice feature is that they rent bikes out - so when my buddies go camping we can ride the trails around the lake and let someone else clean up the bike. There's no other place that rents in town that I know about - other than tourist bikes in old Sac.

I bought a semi-expensive mountain bike there and was very pleased with the performance of the bike. About 14 months later (2 months after the 1 year warranty expired) I had a major problem with the cranks. I took the bike in and showed them what had happened. They insisted on leaving the bike with them so that they could do the appropriate repairs. I got a phone call from them stating that the additional parts they needed would be shipped but would take a day longer than they had committed too. I was fine with that and when I picked it up I was surprised to see brand new upgraded cranks that were heavier duty for the type of riding that I do. All of this plus a total maintenance tune up and new breaks for free. This was because they stand by their reputation as the best bike shop in Sacramento and are willing to do what it takes to make the customer happy.
I would recommend them to anyone looking for a quality bike from a shop that is willing to go the extra mile.

I went in to get an overhaul of an old bike that had been very neglected. The front desk guys took me right back to the mechanics where I got the immediate help of the shop's owner. He gave me a very clear rundown of all the things it would need at the prices, and then he printed out an itemized estimate of the cost. He was very friendly and obviously knew his stuff. When I picked up the bike, I received more of the same hospitality and quality service. My bike is working perfectly and I would return here in a heartbeat for any bicycle needs.

Lousy store, always have new people and they don't know what is going on. Good luck getting help in there.

I took a trip to City Bicycle Works today in my quest to find a good cheap helmet and an air pressure gauge for presta tire valves. So the girlfriend and I walked in and within 20 seconds were greeted by a very friendly staff member. It is a big place with anything you would ever need for your bike, plenty of staff on hand to help out as well. One thing that I liked were the prices, although I'm not on a quest to buy a new bike there were some very nice cruisers and hybrids for very reasonable prices. I see myself coming here many times in the future.

i haven't been here in quite awhile... i bought my mtb here a couple of years ago, and they have such excellent customer service! they answered all my annoying, nagging questions and gave honest advice. they are very knowledgeable and sweet and the salesperson even disassembled my bike and put it in my trunk for me. if you are in the market for a bike this place is definitely worth a visit.
I've bought 2 bikes here and plenty of gear. They're knowledgeable. They've got the stuff...they fix my bike. Best of all, they're close...in the neighborhood! Yay, downtown!
On the 3 times i've gone in, they were too busy to help/care about me.
