This wanna-be upscale restaurant gives me bad vibes. As a lover of pho noodles, I used to visit here once in a while. But the owner gives me the "you order stuff that's too cheap, eat it quickly and get out" vibes all the time, even when I'm the only customer in the restaurant.
Honestly, I hope it goes out of business and another humble pho noodle shop replaces it.
I didn't give it a one star review simply because I've only tried their pho. I would hope their "upscale" menu is better but I will never dine at a place that emphasizes profit margins ahead of customer service and taste. Some restaurant owners never realize what a simple smile and a "thank you" can do for their business.
BTW, their pho was average at best. No comparison to Pho Tau Bay and Pho Kim Long. -

This WAS my favorite restaurant, but sadly it's closed. I loved the quiet atmosphere and the personal touch. It was run by two sisters - Mai always greeted us with an open smile and Hong made magic in the kitchen. Now I'm left to dream of the fresh spicy spring rolls, the melt-in-your-mouth short ribs, and the dreamy melting chocolate cake paired with lychee ice cream.

Ate here for lunch in August of 2003. This place used to be Pho Saigon. Owner Mai Pham gives you a nice welcome as you enter, and her sister chef Hong To makes great Cal-Vietnamese food. There's no Vietnamese on the menu, so you could consider this Americanized, or fusion, or whatever. It's good for what it is. Try the spring rolls, the turmeric crepes (banh xeo), the salad of mango, Kaua'i shrimp, Bermuda onions, lettuce and Meyer lemon vinaigrette, the look luck beef (bo luc lac), the seafood melange curry, and the fried bananas. Citronelle is the French word for lemongrass, aka citronella.

I tend to avoid Vietnamese as difficult for my vegan diet, but Citronelle bills itself as "Modern Vietnamese" and I peeked at the menu online before giving it a try. Fellow Yelper Kathy noticed that her glass had lipstick on it, so I worried we were off to a bad start. I ordered both the fresh and fried egg rolls as well as a green salad. They brought my salad first, which was a little awkward because it was my entree. Then we all shared the rolls, which were very good (but not spectacular). The service was inattentive but fairly efficient. If you're looking for something a little different, this may be worth a try for you.

Went there today, 8/19/06. Letter on the front door --looks like they had difficulties and had to close. Phone still works, announces upcoming events in January and February. Oh, well. One star for going out of business.
