Some of the Best food i've had in Palm Springs.
Ive been here on several occasions and the Roasted Young Chicken, Shrimp Cocktails, Pacific Halibut and dessert cookies w cream dip are simply amazing.
The Staff are always nice and hospitable, and the tables are always clean. It took a while to get a drink from the bar but i wont hold it against them.
In conclusion, I would say Citron is top notch. :) Food, Service, everything is just wonderful!
PS: I haven't tried the Parmesan Truffle Fries yet so if anyone has please input a review!! :D
I've been a fan of Citron since they opened. Have had great experiences there. With the downturn of the economy and cutting back dining experiences, I hadn't been there since they changed management about a year or so ago. As a splurge, though, I made a reservation for a birthday celebration.
My first inclination that things weren't going to be the same was when I went to the hostess to announce I had a reservation. She was almost in shock as, except for people at the bar, the restaurant was empty! What used to be a great outdoor patio room, looked like it wasn't even set up for guests, like an abandoned banquet room. Gone were all my favorite waiters that used to work there.
The staff I have to say was super nice. We sat poolside, which was pleasant, and given the one page menus. I was shocked at how the menu had changed! It basically had 8 dinner items, and maybe 6 or so appetizers, and that was it. Two of the dinner items were hamburgers.
The ultra limited selection made it difficult to choose something. Quite honestly, I felt like I was looking at a room service menu.
I ended up ordering the Ahi Tuna- when it arrived, I didn't realize that it was an Ahi Tuna salad actually...did I mis-read something? The tuna was so chewy and rubbery that I couldn't eat more then one piece. My guest ordered the "crispy pork." When it arrived, it appeared to be something like weinerschnitzel with a salad on top. ??? It was tasty enough, but just odd.
We had two appetizers, a beet salad that was tasty, nothing extraordinary really. My guest had what she thought was a seafood cocktail per the menu, but when it showed up, it was really just Ceviche...again, not bad, nothing fancy.
During the middle of our dining experience, the waiter came over and asked if we needed anything else, because he was going on his break. ???? That was a first...and all I could think of was, a break from what? We were the only table he was serving! The hostess stepped in and was more then accommodating and pleasant, however it was just odd.
With two drinks, the bill came to $120.00. I don't mind paying for a great experience. But in my humble opinion, I would have rather gone to Sherman's Deli and probably would have had a more enjoyable dinner for under $50. Very very diappointing because Citron use to me one of my favorite special occasion restaurants.
I would have given this place 5 stars, because the service here was impeccable. 3 course dinner - 2 hours: The high level of service made the time fly by. I would also like to note that the restaurant staff was highly accommodating when it came to special requests: i.e. vegan, shoulder massages, etc.
I gave Citron four out of five stars for one reason. I ordered the panko encrusted pork loin and couldn't understand the sauce. The entire pork loin was swimming in a pool of oil. I thought that the oil was the same oil that the pork loin was fried in, but I couldn't be sure. I've never seen anything like it. It was reminiscent of a Japanese style pork katsu without the necessary hikari sauce and raw cabbage. The dish was palatable, but lacking in something. I mostly remember the oil slick. Oils aside, the incredible service made up for this strange dish. I recommend Citron for it is a gem in the sand. Citron was the highlight of my 110 degree trip to Palm Springs last week.
Fantastic! While I was there on a slow night (a Tuesday I believe) the service was about as good as it gets. Our server was extremely friendly and had plenty of advice on other good places to eat and visit while we were visiting Palm Springs. He was even kind enough to help my mother get the recipe for the lamb chop appetizer from a line chef who didn't speak english well, and let me tell you those lamb chops are amazing! I had a tuna dish that was cooked beautifully and my dad had the chicken which was delightful as well. We shared berries and cream which had a flavor that I was unaware you could get in the desert :) The restaurant is small but beautiful. If you can, sit outside; there are several citrus trees wrapped in clear lights and it makes for a lovely, romantic setting.
The yellow is elegantly mellow at Citron.
Starting with the secluded entrance and it's bold yellow doors, then moving to the Viceroy lobby with is beautiful mixture of zebra and yellow tiles, and gracefully transitioning on to the bar and dining area, the yellow theme is everywhere. The walls, the outside patio, the menu, the mirrors, it's glamorous and subtle all a the same time. True to form, the yellow makes you feel relaxed, chill, happy, and HUNGRY at Citron. Even more, once I stepped outside of the restaurant and explored the grounds, I felt as if I had entered the set of MADMEN. What am amazing vibe for sure.
Within the realm of food talk, Citron was good. I wouldn't say amazing and I wouldn't say lousy, but good. I opted for the fixed price 3 course menu. For 30 some dollars a pop, I had a very fresh green salad, a skirt steak with grilled vegetables, and a hazelnut kit kat sweet treat. My pal opted for the most of the same, but she got the fresh baked cookies.
Everything looked great. Everything felt great. Everything was served great. After consuming MY meal, I wondered if the draw to this place was more about the ambiance and vibe versus the food. I sure felt as if so. Maybe it was the fix price meal or that I ordered something standard, but I surely was not wow'd. Maybe next time folks, maybe next time. Definitely left wanting and hoping for something more.
I will tell you this: If you want something chic and are looking for a fabulous experience in the dessert, then this is the place for you. Sit outside, and don't worry about the wind...the magic mountains will protect you from the cold. Sit back, relax, take a sip, and get ready for the show. Hollywood's playground, all the way.
Most excellent Thanksgiving dinner here! It was a multi course wine paired adventure that was delicate and yet filling. Absolutely recommend and will return upon the next venture to Palm Springs.
Imagine: Frank Sinatra. Slick Hair, Dinner Jackets and Cigars.
Chic, Elegant and Sinfully Ostentatious.Vegas meets old world Hollywood. Citron embodies this example, aesthetically 100%. The food? Well it's a toughy.
I had perfectly cooked medium rare flank steak with grilled veggies. That's it, no oooh's and ahhh's. No *extra* effort was put into the dish or presentation.
I also had an heirloom tomato/mixed green salad and fresh cookies with cream for dessert. $36 pre-fixe menu special. It could all be easily home made. Yet, that's what was sooo good. It tasted, well, good!
3 stars. Great Service, Great Atmosphere and Tasty Food.
I am coming back to the Viceroy hotel (citron is located inside) to stay with my gal pals. The hotel is a definite place to be/stay in Palm Springs!
Good Morning!
Citron is a lovely place to grab breakfast. Dine outside before it gets unbearably hot and enjoy reasonably priced (for a hotel at least) breakfast. I like their eggs benedict, and their smoothies are pretty good too.
I've only eaten breakfast here, never really tried other meals which is odd since I usually stay at the Viceroy. I will try out their lunch this weekend when I am in town (but sadly not staying at the Viceroy).
We came here for New Year's Eve for a fixe price dinner.
Overall, it was very good time. Both my husband and I were very pleased with the service. I have heard such good things and see pictures of space. Upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised by the intimacy of the venue. I had expected a larger venue.
The one thing that sort of bothered me was the options on the menu. Under a few of the courses, I could order this item but then it was an extra $XX. If you are going to have a fix price meal, I would either increase the cost of the meal to offer said options or take them off. Otherwise, it feels like you are being nickeled and dimed.
Once it was close to midnight, we left our table to join the crowd on the patio. The staff had no problem holding our table while we left for about 10 minutes.
Valet was quick and efficient. Always a plus in my book.
My wife and I ate here last year for Valentines prefix menu and also for breakfast when we stayed at the Viceroy.
Breakfast was really great.
For dinner, I had the Lobster Veronique. Probably the single best dish I've had in my life...really. I can't remember what my wife had but it was good too.
The dessert was just ok.
Pooper Out!
We finally made it to Citron after all of Palm Springs lost power due to crazy 70 mph winds and a cab driver you could not find the restaurant!! We arrived and were thrilled they had power and could get us in right away for dinner. Citron is actually in a hotel called the Viceroy Palm Springs which is pretty casual with the bar right outside and folks coming in and out in towels since the pool is right outside. So you have some serious mix of crowds you can watch while having your dinner that are quite entertaining. We had the Euro mix music from the bar coming in at times and then some total LA people with tons of plastic surgery to laugh at the same time. It was very entertaining!
Ok back to dinner. We decided to go right to dinner since we were starved and both got the Sea bass with blackened rice, and veggies. We also ordered two sides we had to try of oven baked mushrooms and mashed potatoes. OMG these came in huge bowls and were so good! They just melted in your mouth! The sea bass was mouth watering in this yummy wine sauce and the blackened rice was so yum!! We loved the entire meal. Everything was just delicious!
The only thing that was annoying was our waitress. First she first forgot our bread! We had to ask for it when we noticed everyone had bread around us. Second she disappeared forever before finally bringing us our dinner. She would every time disappear back to the kitchen to never return again. Then we decided we wanted to split the beignets for dessert! Oh big mistake since it took 35 minutes for them to come out to us! By then we pretty much wanted to kill our waitress and were ready to leave. She brought them out and said sorry these take a while and please accept her apology since it was not her. Ah too late we were pissed but we did enjoy the beignets and have to say there were out of this world! They also gave us like 6 huge ones to share which was very nice since it was just one dessert. So I loved their food but they need to work on the customer service since it was horrid and have to take off a star! I want to go back again but not sure since I just hate bad customer service for an expensive dinner!
Like 20-something poseurs who, lacking anything intelligent to say, cover up their deficiencies by talking too loudly as they try to pick each other up by the pool? Mediocre food that also poses as haute cuisine? Prices meant to cause you to feel like you too can pose as one of the elite? Then Citron is for you!
We'd read so many good reviews of this restaurant, and we love the regency decor, so we thought we'd give it a try for our anniversary. I was a bit worried in advance; we often stop in for a drink and to roam the grounds, and while the Viceroy has a good sense of style, its new money inhabitants often do not. But, we took Yelpers' advice and reserved a table by the pool for 7:45, arriving half an hour early for a drink and a chance to roam the grounds. By the time we were seated by the pool and the outdoor cabana, the evening was lovely--twilight brought the lights on in the olive trees and bats swooping overhead. Unfortunately, the tea light on our table was the only lighting source around, so by 8:15 we couldn't see much of anything on our plates. That seems to be intentionally orchestrated by the Viceroy, if the brash and drunken ladies and boys (they weren't gents) in the cabana were any indication; they were there for a quick pick up, and too much light might lead to discernment, which would have been inconvenient. Instead, they spent time in the relative dark trying loudly to impress each other with their year or two of accomplishments since college ("I been to Australia, New Zealand, and Iraq five times! And some countries in Europe, too!" And no, he wasn't military...he was likely just clueless that we've been at war in Iraq for all of his adult life.)
And what was on our plates wasn't anything to write home about, either. While the host, bartender, and our server, Rose, were very nice, some of the other waitstaff were less than expert, one sloshing my wife's cold tomato and herb soup around the bowl before setting it down, and the busser looking like he was about to have a panic attack. The courses were served at a leisurely pace, if leisurely is 20-30 minutes between servings. And the food, while not horrible, certainly wasn't anything to brag about. My wife's flatiron steak wasn't remarkable; the salad served with it was warm (as though the whole plate had been sitting under a heat lamp). The herbed fries were so greasy and salty that everything on her plate tasted of grease and salt. My Kobe beef was slow cooked like a stew and served over lobster mashed potatoes. While the beef was certainly tender, it wasn't very flavorful, and the potatoes weren't even in the same league as Copley's extraordinary lobster mashed potatoes. By the time the dessert menu came around, we'd had enough waiting and enough of the inane chatter behind us and headed out.
We'd considered eating inside prior to being seated, but the dining room and bar plays the same electropop muzak at a volume that doesn't allow for conversation, so at least we were able to talk outside. But then again, perhaps that's the point; the Viceroy seems to know its target audience too well, and what they have to discuss doesn't seem worth hearing, which would seem to explain the volume.
There are plenty of other legitimately upscale restaurants in Palm Springs; you might try those. Leave the Viceroy's Citron to those who are trying hard to make an impression on each other.
I have enjoyed my meal here the several times I have been there the small dining room was a bit noisy for a meal of that price & the menu does not change as often as it should.
The restrooms were clean & were well appointed !!
It is kind of a new place so lets see where it is in 10 years or if its still around...
TO DIE FOR fresh. warm. baked cookies.
Whenever we visit PS, we always make a ressie at Citron. Mostly because their food is damn good, but really because I need me some of their fresh baked cookies once a year. Literally steaming fresh from the oven...they are an absolute dream with a bit of ice wine and a cup of strong coffee.
The food is amazing too, we have not had a bad or even a mediocre meal here...they seem to excel with fish preparation, cooked just the right amount so that whatever you get is flakey and warm, but not overdone and chewy.
The service here has also always been quite good, which is surprising because it always seems like the more you visit a place, the more opportunities you have to be disappointed. This last visit we had the service was a bit slow, but they were busier than they have been on previous visits and they still accommodated us quite nicely.
Our first year visiting, we sat outside which at the time was not as cute as it was the last time we visited...and we were really disappointed at the lack of ambiance carrying from the inside to out. However, now they have a ton of cute outdoor seating but be warned, smoking is allowed outside.
We love the fresh feel of this place, it's called Citron for a reason, all white and yellow retro crispness. The waitstaff is very attentive, and in 2 out of 3 visits we have also had an older gentleman who also assists each table as well.
PS has some yummy restaurants, but Citron for us is a staple of wonderful. And seriously, you have to save some room for their cookies. There are gooey melty chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter and macademia chocolate.
And if you can't eat them all (what's wrong with you??), they will wrap them to go. But be cautious, I just might be waiting outside ready to wrestle them outta your hands. A girl loves her cookies.
Overall, very disappointing. ATL wanted to check the Viceroy out so we went for brunch today. The waiter was inattentive and the service was just not very good for an upscale place. The Italian waiter obviously doesn't know food, because he recommended the mediocre run-of-the mill spring mix salad over the truffle fries. And I'm the bigger idiot for listening to him. I ordered the tuna and avocado wrap in lavosh. Meh. Not too exciting. The bread could have been warm or crusty, but was neither.
C ordered the salmon reuben on rye with saukraut. She said the salmon was a little too much but I'm sure she'll elaborate in her own review of the place. (See my friend list for her reviews.)
My other friends ordered some kind of poached eggs dish. They didn't really comment so that means it was just ok. Like our moms always said-- if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. They remained silent.
Mimosas and bellinis were served in wine glasses. That's fine, you maybe even get more by serving it in the bigger glass, but you would think that the Viceroy would have proper champagne flutes.
We had a girls getaway to Pam Springs and it would have been nice to end a lovely weekend with a better brunch experience. But the company was 5 stars.
Great food and ambience. The only things that can spoil it are (a) grungy people from the pool walking in shirtless and shoeless to order food; and (b) families who let their kids run around like screaming banshees. When neither of these two are present, Citron is the best of Palm Springs Modern and Retro, rolled into one.
Overpriced.
Service was great.
The food was ok but the price was about double what it should have been. It was not bad, just not as exceptional as the price would suggest. Definitely skip the burger.
The ambiance was lacking. Tables are nestled close together and I had to resort to a shout to chat with my date across the table. At first glance the place appears to be retro but the truth is it is just old with a fresh coat of paint.
Two stars - I won't go back and I would advise against it if suggested to me by a friend.
It's so hard for me to separate Citron from the general soul-healing perfection that is the Viceroy Palm Springs, but here goes. For a casual hotel restaurant, this is swell and then some. Half of the restaurant is inside the Viceroy lobby, but the other half, which borders/surrounds/includes the pool, is where it's at. Poolside service is a lovely thing in itself, but it's substantially more lovely when that service delivers a fresh, spicy ceviche and a peach smoothie.
Cuisine is straight California fresh/organic/eclectic. It's pretty yummy; nothing above and beyond. The lobster bisque is buttery and thick. The aforementioned ceviche is excellent, done chips-and-dip style with fresh-baked, salty tortillas. The fries with truffle oil are - well - fries with truffle oil. And breakfast ranges from the healthy pre-spa fruits and yogurts to a real down-home sausage and eggs plate. It's really one of those places that tries to be all things to all people; all people who are discerning enough to be staying at this oasis, that is.
But really, brass tacks, Citron is not about the food. It's about the ambiance. That Palm Springs pool casual, laid back and upscale, some of the diners in slim-cut button downs and $300 leather shoes; some in bathing suits and towels. At night, beautiful candles flicker and wicker-enclosed lamps dangle from the trees. It's peaceful and yummy and as your being unwinds from the gauntlet of Los Angeles, you'll sigh and smile and forgive them for playing Euro hotel electronic cheese. I promise you will.
I finally went there for my birthday dinner this year mostly because I wanted to check out the dcor - Hollywood Regency - which I am a fan of - at some of it's finest I think. We wanted to stay at the Viceroy for this weekend, but no availability unfortunately. Still, no reason not to try the restaurant Citron, so we made reservations for 2 at 7pm on Saturday night. We came in at about 5 min till and had to wait about 15 minutes before getting seated. That was okay as it gave us a chance to people-watch at the bar which was a mix of Palm Springs locals, young hipsters, flamboyant alternative lifestylers to downright why-are-you-still-out oldies and other visitors like me. This is where I got Belvedere vodka French martini #1. Excellent by the way. Made strong but tasted divine. I should of known better...
It was a beautiful early-summer night and we chose to sit outside near the main pool and where I could have a peek view into one of the vacant suites to see if the dcor was as chic as what you see online. For the bit I saw, oh yes! Cool chill music playing outside and what looked to be the remnants of an earlier bridal party nearby - still a little festive but definitely winding down and not annoying at all.
The waitress delivered martini #2 with a baby greens salad with candy spiced pecans, raspberries and goat cheese and the Fois Gras appetizer plate. Both very good and plenty for two. By this time, couple at the next table started talking real estate to us. So it's my birthday and so I was with my sweetie on this so far great, romantic dinner - why was I not bothered by the intrusion? Because it was my birthday, because I love to talk to locals when I travel, because this gives us something to chuckle about afterwards but mostly because I'm onto martini #3 - that's why.
For dinner, I ordered the sweet soy-ginger braised short ribs in a demi sauce and my honey had some sort of fish - halibut I think. His was delicious but mine was better. Not the 3 martini's talking either, my dish was fantastic! We usually we end up switching plates but no way with this one. For desert we shared a buttery, fluffy, lemony, yummy cheesecake and an equally yummy crme brulee. Bailey's coffee to go with of course.
Wow, what an incredible meal - lots of food and drink this time but I find that getting old doesn't feel so bad when you know you will splurge like this. I would recommend coming here for a special occasion because it is on the pricey side. We had a great time and will have to come back when we are in Palm Springs again. If not to stay at the Viceroy then at least have drinks/dinner at Citron.
Oh, and by the way...those 3 martini's...it didn't end there. We kept the party going at the Parker afterwards but hey, that's a whole other story -hehe.
Romantic. Delicious. Special...
These are the words that come to mind after dining at Citron. My boyfriend and I totally lucked out when we decided to come here. It was super convenient as it's right off the main strip of Palm Canyon Dr where all the restaurants and shops are... but it's tucked away so it feels like you're surrounded by nothing but the bare desert.
We sat outside, since it was a beautiful night. The outdoor dining is so pretty! The white tables are right by the lit pool, surrounded by tall palm trees and the Viceroy hotel rooms- it's more like a courtyard than backyard. Our waiter was friendly and efficient.
The food was so good! Despite having just had some snacks at Azul, we ordered 2 apps (yes, we are quite aware we eat a lot!): grilled octopus and a charcuterie plate, or "graze plate" as they call it. The octopus was incredibly tasty- paired awesomely with pieces of kumquat and some other sauce I can't name. The graze plate was also tasty and had very generous portions of prociutto, salamis and artichoke. The only part that didn't make sense was the hummus.
For our entrees, I had the white striped bass and my boyfriend had the cod. The cod was good, but not as good as my fish- which was simply prepared, but cooked just right.
After all this, we even had dessert- a simple bowl of fruit (blackberries, blueberries and strawberries) topped with a vanilla cream.
a whopping five stars for the bar, breakfast, and dessert for room service.
Mojitos are their specialty and its the damn best. They muddle it with fresh fruit. I got the raseberry, but they got peach, mango, and grapefruit. ($12)
Ordered room service for dessert. French beignets with banana curd and coconut ice cream.($10) The banana curd was sooooo good and the beignets dipped in the banana curd was even better. Hubby got the chocolate carmel tart with figs, raspberries, and chocolate gelato. ($10)
Breakfast was so good too. Only french press coffee at this place. The viceroy $12 included two eggs, sausage, rye toasted bread, apple smoked bacon which is the best that I ever had because you can actually taste the smokiness of it, and a crunchy potato risotto.
Throw in a couple of amuse bouches and a tasting menu and you'll be forgiven if you thought Citron had a Michelin star or two. The menu is exciting, well thought out and (according to my waitress) seasonal.
I was excited to try their crispy veal sweetbreads, but was disappointed when I was told that they had run out. Instead, I started with their Crudos plate: coconut-pistachio ahi tuna tartar, granny-smith apple and watermelon yellow tail sashimi, nicosie olive, caper, preserved lemon salmon tartar .It came on a long slab of marble that frankly was a little awkward. The ahi tuna was interesting, the yellow tail with watermelon and apples was refreshing, but the salmon tartar was pretty much a miss for me - the overly salty olives really over-powered the taste buds.
For main course, I had their pumpkin seed crusted chilean sea bass, with lobster-asparagus ravioli and uni butter. The dish was also topped with finely sliced asparagus that had been toasted to a crisp. This dish was highly successful; the toasted asparagus had a wonderfully smoky taste, the pumpkin seed encrusted sea bass was beautifully cooked. And the ravioli was smooth and creamy. Not sure about the uni butter though - google uni butter and you'll find that it is a highly potent fish attractant, I didn't detect any uni in the dish though, nor am I currently attracting fishes. Still the dish was delicious and I enjoyed it tremendously.
So far, the review doesn't seem to confer a 4 star vibe. I gave this place 4 stars rather than 3 solely on the strength of their potential and integrity. The bread was freshly baked and hot (not warm, but piping hot), the by-the-glass wine was served in a standard sized glass, not some ditsy dwarf glass you see in some places. And the menu looked delicious, there was 5 or 6 other items on the menu that I eyed greedily.
I really liked the feel of Citron, it was elegant, stylish and serious about food. Kudos to the executive chef for his integrity. I would fault their service a slight bit though; the service wasn't bad, just a little iffy. I waited 30 mins for my first course, and had my main course served practically as my first course was taken away - rather odd timing. I also hardly saw my waitress, she would serve my food and promptly disappear back into the kitchen never to return.
The wait staff could also be trained a little better to sell the menu; I sat and listened to how the wait staff responded to customer inquiries about the different dishes on the menu. I found their response to be lackluster and uninspired.
Still the food is exciting. Give this place a try... I'm certainly keeping an eye on this place to see how it evolves.
Food - 4
Service - 4
Ambience - 3
For my bachelorette party weekend, my maid-of-honor reserved a private poolside cabana for an extravagant dinner, complete with our own maitre'd/waiter. The food was simply delicious and we engorged ourselves so much that we ate for 3+ hours. We had plans to go out clubbing that night, but we were having so much fun at the hotel, we decided to stay in and spend some quality jacuzzi time instead. Simply marvelous.
Of note for the menu is the truffle-oil french fries. They stop serving room service at 10:00 or 10:30, which we unfortunately found out about when we returned to the hotel after a long day & night working off-site. Luckily, we were just under the wire and the hostess was able to take our order and send our food on up. I think she could tell we were in no condition to be seen dining on their pristine white furniture in the dining room.
I went to the Palm Springs area for a mini-vacation a couple weeks ago, and wasn't sure where to eat. In the mood for fish, we found Citron through yelp and were impressed by the reviews. So we went, and although the swanky Viceroy was a bit intimidating, we had high expectations for a pleasant dining experience.
We couldn't have been more mistaken. Okay, well, it wasn't a complete bust, but it disappointed on many levels. We were ignored when we first walked in, and when someone finally approached us, we were made to wait despite having called in a reservation and there being several open tables.
But that's fine, I'm happy to pass some time people-watching and sipping on a cocktail at the bar. When we finally got to sit, we still had to wait a long while for water and bread. I first noticed that the prices were way higher than expected for a 'casual' restaurant. But the menu looked fresh and creative.
The charcuterie was an excellent way to start - it's pretty large, with a delicious selection of meats, fresh hummus, olives and roasted veggies. Our waiter recommended decent wine, and we were looking forward to the entrees. I got the black cod, which was served over black risotto and squid, and was very well-made. My partner, however, got another fish (John Dory?) at the manager's enthusiastic suggestion, and had to SEND IT BACK!! He's got a pretty open palate and works in an upscale restaurant, which makes him appreciate of good food but not picky. I have NEVER seen him send anything back, but the dish was so salty it was inedible. The waiter dealt with it fairly amenably, and brought back what was supposed to be a less salty version, but ended up being a less cooked iteration.
We also had to sit next to a large table of scarily obnoxious and precocious socialites who seemed to have walked straight out of The Hills set. It was entertaining at first but got old quickly.
We spent over $100 for the meal, some of which was good but most of which was majorly disappointing. A bummer of a relaxing vacation dinner, but I guess I should have done more research.
I stayed at the Viceroy and had breakfast at Citron twice. The egg dishes were delicious - I tried the shrimp fritata which was amazing and the vegetable omelet with potatoes which was also very good. The staff was accommodating but slow.
The second day we ate at the bar but the bartender was clueless - didn't know if they had croissants and it took almost 20 minutes to get toast and granola with yogurt (which was a crumbled Nature's Valley granola bar). I'd go back for a large breakfast, but if you want something quick, maybe not. It's also pricey.
One bring problem is that they close at 9/10pm which is consistent with the rest of Palm Springs... After that you are stuck with your minibar.
Ok, so my boyfriend and I decided to give Citron and Reggie another chance and score boy did they come through. We arrived around 7 p.m. and were seated right next to the pool. Our waiter was super charming and very personable. We ordered our drinks, water for the BF and a Grey Goose pear and soda for me, then had a delicious beet salad followed by our main courses. I had the scallops with butternut squash and brussel sprouts and he had a chicken dish which was very what I like to call "white wedding food." Both were good and very beautifully presented. Reggie came by our table and was very professional and kind as we asked about what the renovations were all about next door. We then finished our dinner with a glass of champagne and our favorite the beignets! We will definitely be back...oh and the lunch menu was hidden under my dinner menu and all the lunch offerings looks yummy too!

This is the second or third time my Boyfriend and I have come to Citron to eat as we have a house… Read more »
A low-brow/hi-brow pool side restaurant with laid back sophistication serving hearty portioned meals. However service is not as attentive as youd think a place with this vibe should have. We took my bf's sister and her fiance here for a celebration dinner and had a wonderful evening of tasty American bistro fare but just so-so service. Between the four of us we got the mesclun greens with bacon, goat cheese, and dates (we couldnt find the bacon), the short rib pappardelle (very filling and rich), the kobe burger, the prime rib (we've had better for less), and the french beignets with banana cream and coconut ice cream for dessert (a little too much powdered sugar on the beignets in our opinion). We were annoyed that they forgot our sides but it turned out to be ok since we were all very full.
I went here for dinner on the 4th....And I must say that their Kobe burger was pretty out of control. But let me first start off with the cheese biscuits that they serve you at the beginning with tapenade. These biscuits are warm and delicious and cheesy goodness. I wouldn't say that they were the best combination with the tapenade - but individually they were both quite quite yummy. I also had a delicious Sunrise drink that got me nice and toasty. Now, on to the burger. The kobe beef was tasty and tender - medium rare to perfection like I like it! The cambazola cheese was a surprising compliment to the beef and the bun was nice and toasted (much like myself at the time). It was a very happy experience in my mouth. Which got even happier with the fries - parmesan fries which were definitely the icing on the cake with the burger. (FYI I swapped the chips for the fries with my burger...which I totally recommend) Our waitress was great too. Very nice and attentive. The overall place was decorated very modern/chic/white. I highly recommend this place as a nice break from all the super touristy restaurants in town and also as a place to go to if you're serious about getting a great burger.
***Parking is ample on the street (but I was there during offseason) but there's also valet.
Excellent! The dining room is bright with lemon and white walls, white chairs and banquette, frosted mirror walls, and even a waiter wearing a white Member's Only jacket over his black outfit. We ordered the graze plate of charcuterie, hummus, crackers, olives and more; the loup de mer, with crispy skin and tail attached to tender white flesh; and an unctuous mac and cheese with bacon. The portions are huge. My only quibble is that they served everything at once, no pacing with the courses - we probably should have been more clear or the server should have asked.
**DRAFT**
Good place for dinner with a cool decor and scene. Food is pretty fresh and creative with a good wine list. Service is fairly solid. Try to get a table on the patio.
What a great spot for dinner in palm springs...! the white and yellow decor is very chic and makes the place look vibrant and alive. the food was definitely tasty and quite delicious. I had a shrimp appetizer dish that was incredible. A salad that was very good. And the entree was a sliced steak dish that came with incredible truffle fries and i order the mac and cheese as a side (which was also great by the way). My gal had the halibut and she absolutely loved it. The dessert was 3 different sorbets that were all very good. And they brought us those great fresh cookies that almost everyone as mentioned with candles cause it was my gals bday. They lost a star (would only be a half a star really) because we couldnt sit outside near the pool...they said it was too hot, but it was 930pm and it had cooled down enough that dining by the pool should have been ok. Would definitely recommend to anyone though and plan to dine again when Im back in the area.
I guess for Palm Sprngs, this restaurant is as good as it gets, given the competition for this place is tourist traps, or the fine and lovely sizzlas, or mmmmm applebees. The stark white type decor is very strange...I felt as if we were in the cafeteria of a hospital...no joke. The drinks are terrible....!! do not order the specialty drinks. I ordered the pork chop, it came raw. Yes raw. Not rare, no no, but jelly jiggly raw. What? Somebody throw me a bone here, seriously, I know pork can be served medium, and even a little on the med rare side, but raw? Slap the silly chef who smoke a fat one and decided to pretend my pork chop was Ahi Tuna. My friend ordered the Paella....what the hell came to the table? This mound of rice with huge ass prawns (quite good) was seasoned with too much spice. My first taste was ok, but my second caught the cheap preparation of this dish....Liquid Smoke! You lazy god damn cooks....are you serious? Get a real recipe. The filet mignons, though undercooked, were good. Halibut was great. Desserts........? - throw those in the category with the paella. The best part about this little joint is the back hotel pool area. Very cool, cabana type areas. As for the restaurant, just go with what you know.
