I've had my fair share of times at Circa.
I have yet to go here for an actual meal, but when the lights go down and the music starts bumping, you can find me on the dance floor with my ladies. For some reason, i just really enjoy this place. Its got that cool sort of vibe that makes it a club and a bar at the same time. I love both, so why wouldn't I love this.
They also usually don't charge a cover at the door which is awesome. The drinks are a bit pricey, but they're usually worth the extra dollar.
Regardless, Circa is an awesome place, with bumping beats and killer drinks.
Enjoy :] -

This is a dinner review.
Went here this weekend for my friends birthday.
My expectations: over priced, American, small dishes
What I really got out of this:
Service was great. The waitress came by shortly after I sat down to take my drink order. My boyfriend ordered the "hot and dirty" martini and said 'hot and spicy.' She was nice and corrected him and made it funny, so she also had personality.
Upon looking at the menu, I found that they had decent prices and a variety of different American Dishes. A few items we ordered: lobster mac n cheese, braised beef ribs with grilled asparagus & carrots and garlic mashed potatoes, garlic fries with ailoi, hamburger, sliders, hummus (curry hummus) and spinach dip, and Halibut. I think the most expensive item was $18 which isn't bad for dinner.. I really was expecting the menu to be $25+ per item.
Our waitress came back later and took the order for the table of 14 of us.
Our food too HELLA LONG. I think that we waited there for 20-30 minutes while they cooked our food. Maybe because they wanted our food to come out all at the same time, but even the hummus and spinach dip took a while to come out of the kitchen.
The food was nice and tender. I was one of 3 that ordered the Braised Beef Ribs and the meat was falling off the bone. I enjoyed the garlic mash and my grilled veggies; i finished it all up. My boyfriend ordered the Halibut and it was very tastey but the fish was a bit over cooked (dry).
After dinner, my boyfriend wanted an irish coffee and the waitress was very helpful to get him one even if it wasn't on the menu. She even came back to check if half and half was OK b/c they didn't have fresh cream.
All in all it was a great dinner and a great experience. I'd come again to try something else. -

We all know how hard it is to savor this perfect moment when it comes to the post wedding reception for your guests to remember this very day or night.
We all know how OCD we become when it comes to anything that has to do with our wedding and reception....
Well...
Circa was exceptionally accommodating and helpful when it came down to creating our post wedding reception party. The facility has provided us with great lighting for the ambiance and a great sound system that was perfect for the size of our event. The food that this facility has cooked for us was a lovely addition for the guests, especially because there were many dishes to choose from. Circa owner Guri and Manager Chris were superbly professional, helpful before, during and after the reception event set up. They were both very informative and did everything in their power in making our very private party reception experience as smooth, pleasant and as exciting as we could every wished for.
Thank you Circa team for making our wedding reception so Wonderfully and Magically Unforgettable!!! -

This review is for night life hours only. That being said, Circa is fun... I can't rant and rave about the place because I'm partial to the club scene. Circa definitely caters to a certain crowd. You can tell by the decor and set up of the place; it's a really classy place all around. I would say Circa is the place you come to for drinks after a dinner date. They do have a live DJ, who plays good music. I even heard "Call me, maybe" in the mix, which I hate on, but secretly love, so props there. The crowd is very diverse; there are people of all ethnicities and ages. The bartenders are very friendly. I recommend buying the bartenders shots, so they remember you because the bar does get really busy. If you're there on a good night one of the lady bartenders gets up on the bar and pours alcohol straight from the bottle into willing costumers mouths.

I too, attended for a private event last night.
From what our expectations of the night were, the event was made much less enjoyable due to how management handled our booking, as the other reviews also list.
Right when I walked in, I sat down at a table, only to find a used bottle of wine and two glasses. They neglected to clean before the event!
Well, at least the other reviewers and I can agree on one positive note. The bartender, Thomas, was very attentive, fast, and the drinks were good! -

It tasted good going down.
But those of us from the group who ate the calamari got badly sick. I was the first to go down with an insane body rash and itch, and both-end complete ejection, and then the other two got sick by this morning. As we speak, they are still making brave runs to the bathroom. I, who ate the most, have seemed to have gotten it bad very quickly but am alive and well enough now to write this review. I left a message for the general manager reporting it and asking for a call back, but I haven't heard from them.
I liked the food though as I ate it, for what that's worth. Service wasn't great, a little non existent, I agree. Tonight no ones even answering their phone with my multiple attempts... Sorry to everyone there now eating decayed and/or recontaminated fish! I tried to get a warning through!
**UPDATE**
My voicemail was never returned! Not only will their food enter you into the Bowel Movement Olympics, but they also don't care to hear about it! I think a refund is in order, but I really don't want to have to fight for it...
**More Update**
The manager sent me a message here but didn't offer a refund or even a voucher to return and try them again (not sure I could do that with the sickness is such recent memory anyway) -- he offered a simple apology, said their food is fresh, and call them again and asked that I give Circa another chance. I don't think it's a show of concern when the maligned customer needs to make al the effort.
By the way, here is the type of food poisening I believe we got, based on the symptoms. Fun fact: no amount of cooking can eliminate it from decaying fish:

What a horrible excuse for a restaurant.
Wow. I can't believe how slow the service was. Granted we were there on a Wednesday night... with a half off Groupon deal... which pretty much the entire restaurant was as well. The rules for the coupon required a phone reservation to use the coupon which meant the restaurant knew how many people were going to be there. They could have scheduled accordingly.
We are not the type of people to just eat the special deal. We ordered a round of drinks as well as an additional entree to share as an appetizer. We would have ordered more if just one of the staff had come to the table to ask how the meal was or asked us if we wanted anything else.
We knew we were in trouble when it took 15 minutes to order our food. In those 15 minutes we waited at least 10 minutes for a round of drinks. There were only 20 people total in the building. No reason why drinks took 10+ minutes.
My $10 Kettle One and Tonic was served in a PLASTIC glass. It was not an outside patio. There was no pool to be concerned of broken glass. The waitress laughed embarrassingly when I asked if all the drinks were served in plastic.
Its not like the servers appeared to be overwhelmed. They were not frantic. They were untrained or just clueless. There was no sign of caring that no one had a respectable level of service. We joked with the tables around us that we got what we paid for.. half off the food... and half off the service.
Pity is.. the ambiance was rather elegant with a nice rich dark wood decor... and the food wasn't bad. But we just didn't care to eat when it took so long to get to the table. It was over 2.5 hours for a simple meal.
We had to ask for everything... water several times.. salt and pepper. Servers never took our empty bottles of wine or glasses. We simply put them on the tables next to us to get rid of them off our table.
I will think twice about buying another Groupon deal if this is the type of schlock value. -
Review from Jerry C.
I will pretty much agree with most things that other people have said about this place. Service is really cool. Food is good, but not panty lifting. And the people dining here are a mixed bag of old dudes, Asian deal seekers (us), and power tools.
Yes, the Prince of Taiwan was here with boss/wife because we had a Living Social deal in which we paid 60 bucks for a three course meal for two, plus bottle of wine. Otherwise, the PoT would never had come down to this area of SF on a friday night, where the super whites congregate and tell stories about how poor the rest of us are. Just walking here we saw a drunk white guy at a bar spilling his drink on his 300 dollar Alexander McQueen scarf...and not even wincing. I know if I spilled some water on my LV scarf I would be calling the Taiwanese Embassy right away for an evac to the closest french laundromat.
Service: very nice. young tatted up staff. Our server complimented me on my new Gucci watch which was purchased by boss/wife.
Ambience: hip, loud club music throbbing in the background. the patrons near us sucked though, as the guy next to me kept on talking about how much money he had, and that how he thinks poor people suffer. Here's a tidbit of this butt hole...
"wow, i saw this other guy walking down the street, and he didn't look well dressed at all..maybe just another guy making, what, 60 thousand dollars a year and probably struggling to support his family"
Excuse me, Mister Super White, there are plenty of people that make less than this and are happy, and finding ways to support their family. So take that lobster roll you were eating and shove it up your own lobster hole.
Wife was also complaining that a woman two seats down went to the bathroom the same time and slightly ruined the evening for her. Here's my conversation with my wife...
boss/wife- (after running back from the bathroom) DAMN..the woman next to me had some baaaaaaaaaad food or something
me- why
boss/wife- she was in the stall next to me, and at first i just heard some tinkling....then all of a sudden BluBUBLBUBBLBUBUBLBUBBB- KABOOOOM- SPLASHSPLASH- SHRHRHSHEHRHHR
me- yuck
boss/wife- I literally ran out of the bathroom holding my nose.
me- we are soooo not having any fun tonite
Food: nice, but kinda small portions. Its probably we were using the living social deal. my short rib was very tasty, but very small. Wife's shrimp pasta was good, but the pasta was more like top ramen quality than real Italian artisan pasta, which is what you would expect from this place with their prices. I loved the slides though..very juicy bites of beef.
the bread pudding was also decadent.
Solid, but would I come back without the deal...maybe not, but it was a decent night of food, drinks, listening to a tool make a fool outta himself and a poor woman losing her shit (literally) in the bathroom. -

To sum it up: Hit or miss. Most of the food was good, some was really great, some was bad, service was awful.
The service:
The service, or lack of it, was the most outstanding thing about our experience, so i'll cover that first. We went here on a wednesday night, party of 5. Restaurant was less than half full.
After about 15 minutes of waiting i realized no one had come to take our order or even see if I wanted to order a drink.
I tried desperately to catch the eye of a server, ANY server, to no avail. They were all within eyesight, but seemed to be standing around, not looking in our direction. I waved my arm around in the air...nothing. Finally I said 'Excuse me' rather loudly. Still nothing. A guy at another table joined our efforts and finally managed to send a server our way...it was like a scene from a sitcom, really. We ordered drinks and our food (since we figured we might never get another chance). It was at least another 10 minutes before the drinks actually arrived.
The food:
Dinner:
- the food was actually really good. the hummus appetizer was yummy, with a spicy curry flavor to the dip, and warm pitas. the shrimp cakes were outstanding; flavorful and delicious. Grilled artichokes were yummy and cooked just the right amount. I didn't try it, but my friends scarfed down the lobster-truffle mac, and the braised short rib was unbelievably tender and flavorful. The halibut was ok, but the quinoa that came with it was stellar, and I don't even like quinoa. All in all, the appetizers and main dishes were very good; if i were rating on that alone i'd give it 4 stars.
Dessert:
we got one of each of the desserts, 4 in all.
black and white bread pudding with whisky sauce: unbelievably good, so good i'd think about going back just for that. but then i'd think about how long i'd probably have to wait to even order it, and i think i'd change my mind. still, if you happen to find yourself here, you should order the bread pudding. nah, order two - it's THAT good!
balsamic panna cotta: godawful. the panna cotta was too firm, and it was covered with the strongest most vinegary sauce i've tasted this side of a salad
creme brulee - not good. way too eggy, cooked at too high a temperature. somewhere between pudding and scrambled eggs.
lava cake - where's the lava? i'd describe it as more of an overbaked cupcake, nothing molten about it. it wasn't horrible. but it wasn't good either.
All in all, i had a pretty good time, but that's because i was with my peeps, who are awesome and entertaining and made all the waiting pretty fun. But unless you can bring my friends with you, or some similarly excellent ones of your own, I'd go somewhere else. -

My review is for their dinner.
So i found a deal on-line for a three-course meal with a bottle of wine and decided to go with my hubby. When we got there, there was almost nobody there and seemed that everyone there had this same deal that i had.
The food was good but nothing special, and the wine we didnt really like, and for some reason this wine wasnt even on their regular wine list. The staff was very nice, but man were they slow. There was nobody there, not sure why they had to be so slow. Anyway, by about 10pm, the night-club crowd started to appear and the music started playing super loud. They cleared the restaurant tables to make room for the dance floor. Luckily we were already paying our bill by that point, but i feel bad for the couple that was still eating there. When we left they were the only couple eating there whole the light was super dark and the whole place turned into a nigh club.
At the end, after the tip and taxes, we ended up paying around $100 for a three course dinner for two with a bottle of wine. This included my deal, which i suppose regularly they would charge $120 for this dinner before tip and taxes. Honestly, i dont think it was worth it even with the deal i had, so we won't be back to eat there that's for sure. I might stop by there for a drink, but thats about it.
I think this place needs to decide if it wants to be a night club/lounge vs. a restaurant. It cant be both. -

I am a fanatic for mac and cheese so when I spotted LOBSTER mac and cheese on the menu, I knew I was in heaven...bottomless mimosas are just the icing on the cake. It doesn't take many glasses to drink me under the table (try 2), so it's always a nice happy blur coming to Circa. Servers are somewhat snotty, but nothing like alcohol to faze that out. If the party ends at Circa, there's plenty of other bars near by that you can stumble into to complete your Sunday-Funday festivities.

I rented out this venue to use as a dance hall for a group of 85.
What Circa SF did wrong:
-Allowed people who were not in my group to enter the venue and buy food and drink.
-Followed girls into the bathrooms to "check if anyone is sick."
-Consistently harassed and threatened all the guests that they were going to be kicked out, despite the mild-mannered behavior of the guests.
-Ultimately, kicked my entire group out 30 minutes before the time contracted.
-Their manager, Guri, and the pony-tailed bouncer were incredibly confrontational, despite the calm manner and respect I treated them with.
-Guri flat-out lied on the phone, claiming that we could use the venue's "DJ booth" on the night of the event.
What they did right:
-Bartender was very friendly and able to accomodate everyone
-Deducted the money we spent on drinks from the venue from the total amount they charged us for renting it out. -

Terrible venue, one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The bouncer kept power tripping and called us liars when we reasonably tried to explain our situation.
When we were ready to leave, we waited on the street for the rest of our party. The bouncer came out of the venue and verbally abused us to leave for the next 5 minutes, before everyone had even gotten out of the venue. -

"Meh. I've experienced better" grade says it all. The wait times were loooooooong, considering we were one of maybe 4 or 5 couples dining early at 6:30pm on a Friday night. We had a Google deal for two appetizers, entrees and desserts, so of course, the special menu (which was not mentioned in the deal) was disappointing. For appetizers, we got a choice of salad, calamari or beef sliders (sliders were great, calamari sauce was awful so it killed the dish completely). We then got a choice of chicken, braised short ribs or shrimp w/pasta for entree (ribs were great, served with beans & carrots; the chicken was a bit dry and over-peppered, something I could have done at home if I wanted to). The choices for desserts were coffee ice cream over chocolate fudge cake and black-n-white bread pudding - both were to die for. The service is what killed this dinner, though, the food was not half bad after all. I wish I knew we would spend a total of 43 minutes of wait time on a beautiful Friday evening so that I could make other plans, away from Circa.

I had a great time a Circa! During Sundays they have bottomless mimosas. I would recommend taking a cab there for two reasons: 1. Parking is a bitch! 2. You get fucked up! Make sure you call ahead otherwise you could wait over an hour!
I had a burger and it was pretty damn good. But the mimosas are where it's at. It had the right combination of champagne and OJ. The best part is they bring you the entire thing in a carafe so you don't have to wait for the waitress to come back for a refill (which could take a lot of time). I highly recommend going with a few friends, it's sure to be a good time! -

I had a Saturday brunch here. There are bottomless mimosas for $10 a person. Apparently there is an hour and half limit for a table. We didn't know about it and the waitress didn't kick us out, but I did not see any notices regarding it. The crowd here was younger and really invested with the sports screen above the bar. I imagine this place will be packed for the super bowl.
Food wise there are a lot of egg dishes, including a sampler where you can get two different styles of eggs. I opted for the veggie sandwich and a salad. I loved the greens, spinach included (I'm a huge spinach fan). The sandwich itself was huge but included avocado, those little bean sprouts and to be honest my memory's a little fuzzy.
Parking is a hassle, if you can't find a spot in the marina neighborhood, you may or may not get lucky with metered parking on the street. Or you have to resort to the garage on Pierce. I had to download an app for that but the two hour limit on the parking and the hour and half at the table may or may not be meant for one another.
In short, I would definitely return. And do some shopping down the street. ;) -

Review from Stefi C.
As a bar, Circa is a fun place to go with a big group of friends, with their big dance floor and decent music.
As a restaurant, it was a standard American food joint...nothing special. Their "small plates" are less than $10 while most entrees were in the $13-18 price range.
Dishes:
- Calamari- ok. The dipping sauce was tangy and I wasn't really a fan (where's my marinara at?) although they included fried jalapeños and herbs with the dish, which was a nice touch.
- Lobster Mac and cheese- ordered the larger plate for $18 to share for two. Portion was decent and the mac and cheese was more runny than gooey than it normally is. There were nice big chunks of lobster too.
- Burger- I ordered mine medium rare and it came more medium. The one thing I noticed was that the edges of the meat were REALLY salty...I like salt but a salty burger is not something I'm looking for when I'm paying for it at a restaurant. Additional toppings (bacon, avocado, cheese, fried egg, etc) are $1 extra.
Drinks were definitely a miss. The basil gimlet was undrinkable...the flavored were really gross and I would never order this one again. Raspberry mojitos seemed artificially sweet and not natural at all. I'll stick to well drinks if I'm ever back. -

Went here Saturday for a birthday brunch...well that was the plan it ended up being an alcohol fueled party, sorry Easter Crowd! :) There was a group of about 25 people and we got a table upstairs. I had the breakfast sliders, well technically I had a couple bites of one slider since I was too full from the Mimosa's and Kettle One & O.J to really enjoy and eat my food. I also ate a bite of their Huevos Ranchero which was really good! So I really cannot commit on the "real" experience of the restaurant and food quality but I can say I had a good time...then again I have a good time at any event that includes fun people and alcohol. Oh and they were playing some club bangers at noon so you would think this would be a fun spot at night.

I first have to say that this place has a lot of potential and is probably in a transition mode. It's a good location and a sizable bar/restaurant. Offers bottomless mimosas in the mornings, which is another fun thing. My friends and I went here on a Saturday afternoon, so while it is usually packed, that particular time it was fairly empty. Unfortunately the service that we were provided was not only bad, it was embarrassing. This was solely due to the bartender we had.
When you order a pint, you expect to get a full pint. My friend ordered a beer for me and the bartender filled it about two thirds full, with the rest full of just head. So my friend asked for the bartender if he could fill it up. Long story short, after arguing with my friend he finally filled it up, slammed the beer on the bar to give it to him, stared us down for about 5 minutes (while others were trying to get his attention for service), charged us for an extra beer due to filling it. When we questioned it, he came over said that's how it is, got in my face (because I had the beer) and pointed and asked me "What did you say?!" 15 times fast. (I had said thanks for the beer, although sarcastically admittedly). He then proceeded to ask me to get up and wanted to fight me. Most ridiculous service I've ever seen.
I asked to talk to his manager and he proceeded to claim that he was the manager. Getting up and trying to talk him, the real manager came over. This is where it get better. The new manager, was a breath of fresh air. While the bartender was still going crazy on the side, he was calm and very nice. He just started a couple months back and was brought in to bring Circa back prominence. He comp'd our drinks and made sure we were taken care of. He tried to calm the bartender (I think the guy was on something), and did his best job, but as I mentioned that guy was nuts. With this new manager, I'm really hoping that Circa is going to really become a much better place. My hope is if I come back here in a few months that I can give it 5 stars. I also hope that bartender is no longer employed there. That has to be one of the worst experiences of customer service I've ever experienced, especially saying that it was 4 in the afternoon and pretty empty. I'm giving them 2 stars vs. 1 solely because of the General Manager and my hope that he can turn things around. -

Went here on a Sunday for brunch with my girlfriend. She just ran a marathon, we needed bonding & shopping time so bring on the mimosas!
I don't remember exactly what we ordered but it was the omelette where you could pick the different sides or what's in it. Super good! The reason why brunch is amazing! Eggs, potatoes, avocado, etc etc etc made to perfection!
Great vibe! There wasn't really a line when we got there, although I can see why you would want to come asap. I don't know why some establishments don't serve unlimited mimosas for $10! It brings in so much business! As we walked in, all the tables on the left were full, the seats by the bar were filled as well, but the host sat us on a comfy booth, which was fine. There's a diverse crowd, mid-late twenties to start it off.
Service was great, the server ended up giving us a carafe of the mimosa and we were happy. Food came on time, the staff was professional. I had fun!
I'm definitely coming back.

There are 2 things I love very very much: 1. train wrecks, and 2. bad decisions.
Last night was the "All Level (But Really Just for 1L's) After Finals Party" and for some bizarre reason they had it in the Marina at this place. I went, because I swear to God watching drunk 1Ls is like your own personal live law school version of a Jersy Shore episode.
I noticed a few things. The bathrooms are too small- which made it easy for me to witness multiple chicks puking (you totally need to clean your trashbin now) but was small enough to force me to hold chick's hair back cus they were practically up against me and well... I felt bad for the poor girl. I also kinda liked the interior. It was moody, which facilitated people making bad decisions.
But what I didn't like was how 2 shots of jameson and 2 bud lights were 38 dollars. And there were 2 bartenders for 300 people. Overhyped, overpriced, its in the Marina= 2 stars. -

I give this place 3.5 stars.
Was very easy to make reservations through Yelp ( I recommend doing that because the place gets packed!), and someone from CIrca called me right away to confirm the reservation.
We were sited very fast and the service was good. Nice place for brunch with $10 bottomless mimosas 10-3pm on Sunday :)
It was great until the waitress told us that there is 1.5 hrs limit per table...? Was kind of weird... never happen to me before.... - so 1 star off for that
Overall cool place. Will be back there. -

Food: 3 stars. Service: 4 stars!
Came here for Sunday brunch w/some gfs to catch up and chat and right off the bat my experience was great as I lucked out enough to nab a parking spot right across the street. Definitely had a brunch 'n lounge vibe to it (though not as crazy as Lime) and I'd say the bottomless mimosas were a biiig contributing factor to the general joyous atmosphere.
I tried the eggs benedict duo - classic and mexi style ~ both were good, but the best thing on the plate might have been the roasted potatoes! the jalapeno cornbread was also good when warm. :)
Loved that our server was friendly but unobtrusive, but kept the refills of alky and coffee flowing! -

Brunching on Sundays are one of my favorite events, girls on Sunday is guaranteed a Funday at Circa. Parking was a little difficult but once we arrived and the champagne started flowing............. laughter non stop didn't even mind the blasting of the house music over my head. :)
Huevos Rancheros looked so good, some of the other girls ordered. I had the Italian Fennel Eggs Benedict and Benedict Florentine. Yummy in my tummy. The mac and cheese was out of this world! The other girls emptied their entire plate of Sliders and they loved every last bite. The sampler dessert plate was HUGE for the birthday girl! Happy Birthday SP! What a great place for a Sunday Funday. To continue this day to Tipsy Pigs...
Love you D! -

Although the service was questionable since we went on a pretty calm day, the bottomless mimosas were to DIE for!!!! I don't think I have had such good ones before and for only $10, what could go wrong? I also got the parmesan truffle french fries which were fabulous as well as an egg white scramble. If you are into eggs benedict, they have several different kinds and everyone around me was raving about them.
We went on a Saturday for brunch with a group of ten and the corner booth was also a great way to socialize!!
The only reason I gave it four stars was because our waitress was very hard to find and our food took quite a while. Definitely would recommend!!!! -

I like this place, no cover, no wait, not too crowded.

We came here for brunch + bottomless mimosa ($10 each) - meh, i've had better. We sat at the bar, which actually provides full service. The service was average but the food portions are kind of small. We had the benedict sampler (florentine & mex) - just very so-so. I thought the potatos on the sides were actually better!

Dang I need to come back here for food! Lobster and white truffle mac and cheese?! Tomato soup and grilled cheese?! Those sound AMAZING!
My experience here didn't involve delicious food :( Instead, it was filled with decent music, tall people, and OK bartenders.
Some friends and I came here after eating dinner and my first impression was that
1. It's really dark inside.
2. The "dance floor" is really cramped. And hot. And sweaty.
3. The bar area is cramped. And hot. And sweaty.
4. Actually, the whole floor is pretty cramped. And hot. And sweaty.
Other than that, the music wasn't bad. A combo of top 40 and house. Not too many creepers (yay!) The bartenders were OK, but it was hell trying to get through the mass of people to reach the bar.
I don't know if I'd come back for the "club" scene, but I definitely want to try the food here! :)Listed in: Apple Bottom jeans & boots…

***Good***
The upstairs is more chill and fun. Apparently the brunch can also be fun, but I can't speak to that.
***Bad***
Frat-tastic crowd. This is the epitome of the "marina crowd."
***Recommendation***
Go somewhere better on Chestnut. Pretty much anywhere on Chestnut = better. -

We had our holiday Party here! We were over 150 people and we all had a blast!
Guri, the owner was incredible nice and even gave us shots of tequila on the house.
The food and service was great as well.
A must go in the Marina and in the city.
