On our last day in Seattle, my lady colleagues and I were finally able to take a bit of a breather. We took a stroll down to Pike Place hoping to find some breakfast and pick up a few presents for the folks back home.
As we were strolling, I caught a whiff of a delicious cinnamony scent and noticed, out of the corner of my eye, a sign that said: "vegan."
Ohlala.
I had to take a look.
I'd been on a mission to find the legendary Mighty-O donuts during our trip to Seattle, but with work being as crazed as it was, exploring was something I had no time for.
Happily, I found a suitable (and oh so happily glazed replacement) in the beautiful giant cinnamon rolls at Cinnamon Works. I also purchased some delicious, gooey, lemon poppyseed cookies to tide me over on the plane ride. (The cookies reminded me so much of some bittermelon and lemon cookies that Kit Y. had made me once).
The gal working behind the counter was an absolute delight and brought a few smiles to our faces with her sincere and congenial attitude.
All in all, this was an excellent last minute find - I will be sure to head back on my next trip out to Seattle.
I'm going to stay in the middle here with a "healthy" three stars for them. Maybe its because I like eggs and milk and cream in my cookies. Maybe its because I eat cookies and cake knowing that its not fruit and veggies and I'm ok with it. Maybe it's.... I have no idea but what I will tell you is that these are some of the biggest cookies you have ever seen or had. When they hand you your bag with your cookie in it, its like a weight at the gym is being passed to you.
Service is always friendly and with a smile and maybe that's the reason I keep coming back here. Enjoy!
Nice find across the Pike Marketplace area. This place really makes great pastry. We tried the oatmeal raisin cookies (regular size) and the cinammon-raisin rolls. Yummy. All items freshly baked with great aromas. They do have gluten free items and items for the vegans out there. Oh, and they do have monster cookies for $4.
Cookies were tender and moist and very tasty. Cinammon roll was just superb. Have not had one like this one in a long time. Friendly staff. Has selection of drinks also.
Great little stop as you eat your way through the Pike Place area.
I was walking around Pike's Place and this caught my eye. A bunch of delicious looking cookies to bring me over. Giant cookies. Huge Cookies.
I decided to go with their famous frosted pumpkin cookie. It could have fed an army, but I handled it all by myself (well... I shared a little). I don't know why but pumpkin and baked goods are a magical combination.
Cinnamon Works is still the Vegan Bakery in Pike Marketplace. And they get an extra star for waking up early every morning to bring their customers (tourist, local and brand loyal) fresh baked goodies that are actually nutritious.

I'm sure this is the place I patronized, and here's my review:
Never had sticky buns before. But I… Read more »
First of all, you must understand, I am the cookie monster. The real life cookie monster. Just a little less blue. But I react more or less the same around cookies.
Well. At least I did, until I figured out I had a gluten problem.
WOE!!! What's a cookie monster to do?
Well, cinnamon works has filled my void.
I stop by anytime I'm anywhere near the Pike Place area for a hit of cookie.
My one complaint is that they are usually out of at least half of their items, so I've really only tried the gluten-free monster cookie (hey! they even named it after me!), and the gluten-free pumpkin cookie. They have some small loaves of gluten-free flavoured bread (banana, etc), but who wants that when there are cookies. So I cannot speak for the bread.
But I love their cookies so much that I will not dock a star off my rating for lack of selection, because there's always SOMETHING there that I can eat, and for that I wish to kiss and hug and lick all of the people involved for gluten-free cookie-making. But I refrain. Cuz Seattle cops aren't known for their fair treatment. Oh I'm straying off topic again, ramble ramble ramble... YAY COOKIES!
So good, it is worth having to shove through throngs of tourists. They have wheat free, sugar free, dairy free, and various combinations thereof. What they don't seem to have is something that is all three. I wonder if it is possible to have a baked good that is free of wheat, sugar, and dairy, or would it then cease to be a baked good? Is it just a matter of semantics? Maybe I should ask one of the annoying guitar playing guys nearby what they think.
I do know this, their big cookies are pricy (I know they say "spendy" here in the PNW but I can't bring myself to say it too) but well worth it, especially if you, like me, have a sweet tooth but a need to avoid sugar. Or if you are vegan, or have a wheat allergy. If you have no dietary needs, this place still rocks. The deliciousness makes me temporarily forget that I am in ground zero of tourist attractions.
After running along the waterfront this morning, I figured I'd earned a treat. And Cinnamon Works certainly was one! I had a vegan cinnamon roll, which was enormous, and a small soy hot chocolate. The cinnamon roll was the real win; moist without being doughy, covered in delicious cinnamon glaze. It's a good thing I don't live in Seattle because I would want to come here every morning and I would become a giant human cinnamon roll!
I LOVE COOKIES!!!
I just can't resist a good cookie! It's the perfect snack on the go for a sweet tooth like me. I love them freshly baked, but if they aren't, I love to microwave them until it is faux-freshly baked :).
While at Pike Place Market, I spotted these GINORMOUS cookies and had to shuffle my way through the guy on the corner turning tricks with his little bird and all the tourists taking photos just to get a closer look at these cookies. The cookies are SO big, they are BIGGER than my face!
I picked up a giant chocolate chip cookie for almost $4 and it was worth it b/c it took me THREE days to eat the whole thing myself. I took a bite of Kym's pumpkin cookie that I really wanted (it was like a giant muffin top with frosting on top) but knew there'd be no way I could finish it myself. The bite was good enough, such a tasty treat! On our last day, we came back and I bought a peanut butter cookie for someone at home. I told the nice girl at the counter that I would be flying it back and though she didn't have a box big enough to fit the cookie, she packed it up nicely and it made the trip home without breaking. She was really nice and asked where I was from and chatted for a bit --- genuinely nice staff :).
Since the cookie recipient happened to have a flu, I ended up having to eat the pb cookie with my sister. Don't feel too sorry for me. :). The cookie had a lot of peanut halfs in it (that should tell you how big the cookie is!) and was so delicious!
I don't think we ordered any vegan cookies, so I can't speak on that. But all of their cookies that I've had have a cinnamon aftertaste in them, true to their name. I thoroughly enjoyed my cookie and love how big and homemade it tasted!
HUGE COOKIES.......................
Peanut butter, pumpkin, oatmeal-raisin...................
YUMMY......................................
If you luv cookies, you must try one.
Pike Place Market is very touristy and mostly vegan UN-friendly, though Cinnamon Works had a good variety of vegan baked goods, from cookies to scones to muffins.
I enjoyed my vegan chocolate chip cookie ($3.50) which was huge and came loaded with walnuts. It had a great, soft texture and was the perfect food in the middle of the afternoon on Seattle's waterfront.
I haven't had a cookie in weeeeks.
The sun invited me for a walk to the market place.
I headed straight to Cinnamon Works because I wanted a treat.
Vegan and Wheat Free Pumpkin Cookie - No frosting
Pricey but Perfect.
A sugar high will definitely follow...
I wonder.
Do they have cookies that are free of the three (sugar, wheat, dairy)? Next treat possibly Fremont for some flying aprons.
Had a healthnut cookie yesterday... was awesome. Place is cool, chicks yelling all over the place; she called my honey about 20 times which is always nice. If I had the chance, I'd go back today!
I love cookies and thus, I love Cinnamon Works.
The Monster cookie is amazing.
Their gluten-free options are fantastic.
I didn't even know this place was called "Cinnamon Works." Everyone I know just refers to it as "that really good gluten-free cookie place in the Market."
Go grab a delicious sandwich from the Three Girls Bakery and then walk the few steps over to Cinnamon Works and pick out a cookie for dessert. Then head over to the park and make it a picnic. Enjoy the scrumptiousness while checking out the crack dealers, businessmen, families, tourists and anyone else who happens to be lunching at the Market.
My favorite place to get my giant vegan chocolate chip cookie fix.
Glad they serve Cafe Vita coffee too.
Only complaint is it's so popular they run out of cookies fast, boo.
Pumpkin cookies (no frosting!), pumpkin bread, vegan oatmeal raisin cookies, HUGE ginger cookies, vegan lemon poppyseed cookies, monster cookies... oh man.
As an on again/off again vegan- I love Cinnamon Works no matter what. It's SO hard to find consistently delicious vegan baked goods- and they absolutely nail it. I've loved them for nearly ten years now and it just keeps growing!
I never go to Pike Place without stopping at Cinnamon Works for a glazed vegan cinnamon roll. It is consistently delicious, and exponentially so when taken home and microwaved for twenty-five seconds. Do not underestimate the sensual powers of a warm cinnamon roll versus a room temperature one.
Their large, chewy cookies are incredible. Snickerdoodle and oatmeal raisin are classics. As a longtime vegan, Cinnamon Works MASTERS vegan baking. While many non-vegans describe my own personal baked results as "interesting" or "vegan-tasting," Cinnamon Works tricks the skeptics into submission.
Vicky T. raves about THE PUMPKIN COOKIE: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
My trip was kinda "spur of the moment" and thus I had no time to research places to eat.
Lucky for me, this wonderful cookie haven immediately caught my eye while walking on 1st street.
From a size perspective, let me give you the ratio:
1 cookie=6 little chips ahoy.
I grabbed 3 hoping to get a variety of flavors in my mouth. Peanut butter, Chocolate chip, and the famous pumpkin cookie. Pics:http://www.yelp.com/bi...
They aren't cheap either, I blew like $11 bucks on 3 cookies, but they are massive-WHOA!
If you are wondering if I immediately devoured all 3 cookies, I didn't. I had bites of each. They were better fresh, but I really couldn't eat all that much sugar, especially after a dozen donuts!
i waited seven years to go back and get the pumpkin cookie.. i mean THE pumpkin cookie. In college I went for a conference and had the BEST pumpkin cookie ever... there is a picture that hangs lovingly in my office of my homie Jamie, two @#$@#$ big pumpkin cookies and me... SIGH. I was supposed to get one via a friend from a friend but she ate it (AHOLE) on the flight back to California. I wasted no time going and ordering three.... one of which made it home... I love this place.... and it is one of the only times my allegiance to The Buttery here in Santa Cruz is broken. Huge cookies, vegan options and those honey buns!!!
I also brought back some snickerdoodle and chocolate chip cookies.. those things are f-ing huge!
Cinnabon over Cinnamon Works any day. The roll doesn't even come warmed; I heard some lady ask for it warm and they nearly burned her at the stake.
Poor service which isn't something you'd expect from a bakery that purports itself as unique.
There is also a big sign, complaining about how food prices (commodities in general) are really high and implies that we (customers) shouldn't complain.
Never coming back here again.
I became a huge fan of sweet potatoe pies over pumpkin for Thanksgiving and fall/winter celebrations, and this place makes a pretty good one! I'm not sure if it's quite as good as the old (now defunct) Mother Dears in Portland, but, it's right up there for sweet potatoe pies made in the northwest. Mmmmmmmmmm......
The cookies here are delicious. Or so I've heard. The servers told me they couldn't guarantee no cross-contamination in their bakery. Plus, the sole giant, beautiful, non-gluteny pumpin cookie was sitting in the glass case surrounded by wheat-ful baked goods prone to shed crumbs all over the poor defenseless thing.
Way to shatter my gluten-free dreams, Cinnamon Works.
Thanks are due to this place for providing a wonderful aroma to the general area...and lots of wonderful textural and flavoural (Mrmf?)delights.
My only complaint would be the fergasa bread...this is a taste treat that I miss REALLY bad. I would drive pretty far for good fergasa. (this is spelled many different ways) Basically this is a softish white bread that is full of tomatoes, cheese chunks, onions, and peppers. When it's good, it's one of the best things evah.
I'm not sure if Cinnamon wks still makes this but it was kind of dry and had SAGE in it. Eeeg.
Anyone knows where they's some good fergasa (fugosa? fugu?) bread, please please please tell me!
Im not sure about the vegan baked goods and such, but they make a good latte here. I know, wouldnt think it of a place called cinnamon wheels but its true. The young staff is kinda surly though....its like this fake snobbery and attitude of "I have way more important things to be doing than severing you wheat free gluten free snickerdoodles" that I thought I wouldnt ever get in Seattle, but I was wrong. Please, by all means, do your more important things....
But I digress.....the reason I go to Cinnamon Wheels in the morning is because I like to kill two birds with one stone. Namely, walk my dog and get coffee. This place is a stand, so I can do so without having to worry about a meth head stealing my dog when I tie him up outside of ........well....anywhere else that makes good coffee.
It takes a lot to annoy me. This place was able to accomplish it. The bad part is I still need their style of dessert and it actually tastes good.
Overall summary of service= A older lady- who looked like the owner/ in charge and over-egoed/insecure workers who are slow and random.
Walked up with two people waiting- a too nice girl younger than me and a guy. The girl was clearly first but the guy pushed past her so she pretended she wasn't ready and kept looking at the case as they offered him service. They were still getting his coffee when a lady with dreads pushes right in and the owner/older lady came up to the display case from the back and straight to her. She asked what she wanted and then seems impressed when the orderer handed over her own zip-lock for her two peanut butter bars...
Dude- at this point I was not loving the fact that the nice young girl and myself were not being helped because we did not have dreads and bring out own to-go bags. After both the gentleman and the dread lady got their orders the workers then dilly dallied in the back while we both randomly stood there watching them do nothing. I freakin' wanted a pumpkin cookie- REALLY is it this hard for you to take orders without stopping to chat and smile while you move a mile an hour and pick and choose who you take orders from because they are your kind?! I didn't have 10 minutes to spend at a stand that had two order takers and only two patrons when I arrived.
The pumpkin cookie was good- very cake like and moist. It stuck to my fingers as I pieced it apart walking back up Pine. The frosting was too sweet though. I do like that they have cookies and dessert that are sugar free, wheat free, etc.
If you're by Pike Place and birds are circling overheard (not just diving by).. you're either dead and don't know it (Beetlejuice style) or you've got some exposed Cinnamon Works num nums.
TAKE COVER! Bird sh*t is not good luck.. and it's double no-good-luck if them birds take away your food!
Anyway.. LOVED Cinnamon Works.. quoth the meat eater. I've purchased their vegan cinnamon rolls and their molasses cookies and WHOA! For $3+ bucks I was skeptical but.. whew. Worth every penny. I thought the cinnamon roll was amazing. Of course the fat kid in me wanted it to be dripping with hot icing.. but it was perfect the way it was (room temp) and I didn't feel like a rock after eating the whole thing. This is good and bad.. thank heaven for the price.. otherwise I would have been there every day! The molasses cookie ranks up there in the Top 5 Molasses Cookies of all Trish Time.
Both were ginormous portions.
To address some of the reviews I've seen.. I didn't think the service was horrible. In fact, I think the woman behind the counter handled herself well while people lined up to pick out their sweets of choice. Methinks there's some projection involved.. just judging by what I saw while I was there. Slash, I don't know about you Seattlites (is that what they call you? heh).. but there are a ton of places in Boston that state why they've raised prices (because hasn't everyone). When I saw the sign, I wasn't offended.. but that's just laid back sugar high me.
The cookies were so yummy here and the size of your head!! I got a chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, and pumpkin cookie from here... they were all delicious, even a day or two after! They just need to be reheated in the microwave. The pumpkin cookie was like a muffin top, soft and the frosting was not too sweet on it.. you can also choose not to get frosting on it at all. They also have vegan, gluten free or sugar free cookies here as well!
Ohhhh. I went here just out of curiosity and needing a 2nd cappu on saturday morning. there were herds of people outside for the cheese festival and i wanted something sweet. the cute guy at the counter recommended the whole wheat cinnamon roll...well actually a square. it was so good. i love the texture of vegan pastries and this was excellent...i shared it w/ the family and they loved it too!! it is big enough for 2-3 people. they also have a white cinnamon roll that is equally as good. confession time after walking around all day....i wanted another, so i went to get one...but alas they were sold out. crap. better luck next time. sampled the pumpkin cookie. it was OK, but a little grainy. stick with the cinnamon square!!
Sometimes the only thing that's going to stop me from sitting around in pajamas all day contemplating the best way to use technology to avoid most of the human race is a GIGANTIC COOKIE.
The people at Cinnamon works understand this and bake up gigantic pumpkin cookies every single day - even the day that's furthest away from Halloween. Besides the delicious iced pumpkin cookies you can get chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and molasses along with other baked goods, but who can think of that when 12lb cookies are staring you in the face? Most cookie varieties have a vegan counterpart which I try my best to avoid looking at while I order because I don't want my poor eye-contact skills to land me with a sub par cookie.
These make a fun surprise when I go visit my grandmother because I'm really more sweet than tragic, or so I'd like to lead you to believe.
I am writing this review from the perspective of someone with celiac disease. I can't eat wheat, barley, or rye unless I want days of dire consequences that one doesn't talk about in polite company.
I went there today and had a gluten free monster cookie. I paid $4.50 for a cookie that was 6 inches in diameter, and 7 oz. Why do I know this? I took a pick for a friend.
What really caught my eye, was the cookie in question has oats in it. Anyone that has to be gluten free will tell you that oats are usually processed in places that process wheat, or grown with wheat, and are so contaminated that you might as well eat a piece of bread.
They get their oats from a dedicated gluten free oat company, who's name I can't remember. I will try to check where they get them, when I go next, and add it in at the end. (Might be a bit, I don't have that much money for splurges lately.)
The clerk was a bit . . . meh . . . in attitude, but I come to expect that at Pike Place Market. The poor staff of every stall there gets plagued by a million tourists a day, and I think they are all a bit shellshocked after the first hour into their shifts. Despite being shell shocked she was nice.
I was going to get some banana bread, but it was frozen still, and needed to be thawed. She said it would take a few minutes, but I had to catch a bus. Instead, she suggested the monster cookie.
The selection isn't big, but there is definitely a bit of GF food. They appear to keep the GF stuff on the far edge, away from the gluten filled stuff, too, so that's a bonus.
I took the cookie home, and split it with my husband. It was amazingly delicious. There were oats! Sweet God! Oats! I love oatmeal style cookies! I think it was the best GF cookie I have ever had.
I will definitely stop over there when I am at Pike's Place, next time.
There once was a massive cookie,
Would have even filled up a Wookie,
The place was wee,
Not even a place to pee,
Me tummy was full so I just took a lookie.
p.s.
I've shared a friend's cookie before and they are goooood.
I had a cookie from this place for the first time not too long ago, it was good. I think it was chocolate and cost a dollar.
Two days ago, I met some pals in the market for lunch. I was actually more excited about getting one of these cookies after lunch than the lunch itself. Unfortunately, I never carry cash and there is a $10 min. on debit cards at this place. To get my chocolate cookie, I ended up getting three HUGE cookies to get to the $10. Best move I've made in a long time! Even better, the cookie girl insisted I get the huge vegan chocolate chip cookie instead of the regular version 'cuz she swore it was WAY better. I never thought vegan anything tased that good. SOOOO GOOOD & YUMMY.
Another delicious place to stop along Pike Pl. (A sidebar... I'm lucky I live an hour away, or I'd be down there every day, and thus would quickly swell to the size of a hippo. Or perhaps a smallish elephant.)
The cinnamon roll I had from here was very good as was the cookie I bought and saved for later. My mom got some sort of bread (I think it was squash bread?) It didn't sound too good to me, so I passed on the bite that was offered. But she certainly enjoyed it.
If I'd only had the vegan cinnamon roll, I'd give this place five stars. It's seriously the most perfect food I think I've ever found-- complete with maple frosting.
But no, me being a fattie couldn't stop there. I had to go for a vegan snickerdoodle as well. It was ok-- but damn, it wasn't worth the $3 I paid for it, and it did NOT have a cookie consistency. Isn't this 2007? Haven't most vegan bakeries in the world mastered the vegan cookie? (Hell! Trader Joes has even mastered the vegan cookie!).
So go for the roll and stop there.
This place was so good, we went there twice in one day! They have a great selection of cookies and pastries, ones that you wouldn't see anywhere else. We had a peanut butter cookie that was awesome and a health nut cookie, which to my surprise, was delicious as well. The cookies are huge!!! They are bigger than a DVD/CD size. They also had sweet buns, which I wish we could have tried, that are also very generous in size.
Definitely a place to stop by when in the Pike Place.
Oh yum! This is the right way to set yourself up for a post-lunch sugar coma. The cookies are truly divine.
If you're looking for to truly crash your blood sugar, try the big chocolate chip cookie - you'll keep eating it because it tastes good...even though your stomach is starting to turn.
I spent many an afternoon in my office after having consumed this beast, wishing I had had a little more self-restraint and had saved some of it to enjoy later.
My favorite is the Pumpkin Cookie (if the have it) or, if your appetite is smaller, a little Mrs. Grumpy.
I'm pretty sure they only take cash...good to know when you need a cookie fix.
I am a fan b/c I have to support anyone who does Gluten free... but wow, $13 for three cookies! uggh... that was hard to swallow. The kids loved the pumpkin cookies, but I thought they could be more gingery, or have more flavor. It was great to have a gf snack in Pike Place though... Thank you.
This place is simply great. The blueberry muffins they serve are the best I've tasted in Seattle (anywhere really) and their selection of vegan goods is rivaled only by Mighty-O. Whenever I used to give tours of the Market, I'd tell my clients to come here afterwards. They are usually out of pastries by the end of the day but should be out by 11 AM given how good their products are.
The boyfriend is probably more qualified to write this review because all I've had from here is the granola and the monster cookie...and let me tell ya, that cookie really was a monster. It was like a combination of cookies all rolled into one that was full of oats, chocolate chips, raisins, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I can't even remember. The only problem with picking the monster cookie was that I didn't get to try all the rest of their plate-sized cookies!
And the granola was also very good. It's on the softer side (i.e. not crunchy), and it comes in a bag and is full of big chunks. It sort of seems like an oatmeal raisin cookie broken up into pieces.
On the whole very good and stocked with lots of sweets, so if you're in the area it's a good place to satisfy the sugar craving.
So far the best vegan baked goods I've had in Seattle. I'm addicted to their vegan chocolate chip cookies. They're GIANT! The vegan oatmeal raisin cookies and vegan cinnamon rolls are good too. I swear last time I was there another woman almost killed me when I ordered the last vegan choc chip cookie in the display. Fortunately they had more in the back. I wish I had known, though, cuz I would have gotten two!
