6 reviews for Cilantro
This is my favorite place to get Indian food. My husband is vegetarian and I am not, so we love coming here because there is always something for both of us to enjoy.
I like to go during the lunch buffet because there is always something new and delicious. The Naan is splendid and the Saag Paneer is always perfect.
They always have at least two selections for dessert, and they are typically great, but other times. . .
I think the best part about this place is the fact that they consistently have good food. Some other Indian restaurants have good food sometimes, but on off days, the food is inedible. Not so with Cilantro's. It is good everyday!
Hey-o, so me n Glabella went back to Cilatro's 2 days ago and we liked it just fine. It keeps the 4 stars I gave it before.
This time (as in many other times) she got the Chicken Tikka Masala. It was good, but slightly creamier than before. Not quite spicy enough (we got Medium spicy). I got an entirely new thing, the likes of which I'd never had before. I've kinda made it a new directive to try something not "curry" at Indian places because I realized that there is more to Indian food than curry.
This new dish was really quite good...I can't remember the name though. It had the word tikka in it I think. It was described as a chicken breast rubbed in pistachio and cashew poweder/chunks and other spices and then put in the tandoor (oven) for cooking. It was moist, tender and very lightly hot. I enjoyed it alot as a refreshing change from curry flavors (although it was served with a curry sauce on the side).
We also partook (partaked?) of the cheese naan which had a little onion in it.
I had a $5 mango lassi which was tasty but too pricey for what it is.
I'm keeping them in my rotation, along with Flavors and Apna.

I hurry for curry. I like all kinds, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Jamaican, English,… Read more »
My girlfriend dislikes Cilantro. And it's not so much because of their food, but their inconsistent spice levels. You see, she was raised on a meat and potato diet with salt being the only spice available. And the most rebellious her family gets is sprinkling paprika on their deviled eggs. So, when we go to Cilantro, she always orders her dishes mild. I get medium. Inevitably, something goes haywire in the kitchen and my dinner is mild and her dinner will melt plastic. We've even tried switching where I order mild and she gets medium and my dinner is still mild and hers spontaneously bursts into flames. But, she's a trooper and still takes me to Cilantro so I can get my peshawari nan fix. Peshawari nan is flat bread stuffed with raisins, nuts, and cheese and it kinda tastes like a pancake. I wouldn't suggest you dip it into your sag paneer, but it's a good dessert if you want something sweet, but not in a teeth rotting kind of way.
On this most recent trip, we ordered the vegetable pakora appetizer which is basically just slices of potato, eggplant, and bell pepper battered and deep fried. It was okay but we made definite use of the dips that come with the papadums to add some flavor. For an entree, I had the paneer butter masala which was very tasty. It's like a vegetarian version of chicken tikka masala. My girlfriend had the navaratna korma (ordered mild, came out hot) that reminded me of a story.
Once upon a time, a friend of mine and I decided to make chicken vindaloo. It was rather ambitious of us because I had never cooked it before and he has never cooked PERIOD. Furthermore, neither of us had ever eaten vindaloo of any kind so we wouldn't know if it tasted right anyway. We went to the Indian grocery store down the street from his apartment (he lives in Atlanta) and stocked up on ingredients and, rather than getting pre-packaged vindaloo spice mix (of which there was plenty), we decided to buy the spices individually and grind them in his mortar and pestle (why a guy who doesn't cook would have a mortar and pestle, I don't know). Anyway, about halfway through the prep work, I eventually read the rest of the recipe. Turns out we have to coat the chicken in the spice paste and marinate it for 24 hours. Well, it was about 10pm and we were both starving so we decided to forge ahead and cook it. What emerged that night was a very hot dish that had no flavor whatsoever. And it made us think, "How can something be that spicy and yet so bland?" That's what the navaratna korma reminded me of. Spicy yet bland.
Great food. I've been to the lunch buffet several times and enjoy the fact that there's a different variation everytime.
This restaurant used to be named the Indian Gate. Regardless of the name, it has always been the tastiest place to get Indian food in the city. It's a little hard to find, but just look for the Outback on San Jose. It is in the strip mall behind the Outback. My sis and I went to dinner here and ordered way more food than our stomachs could handle. We had a hard time stopping ourselves since it was all so good! We had samosas for an appetizer. For entrees she had the Chicken Tikka Masala and I had the Chicken Vindaloo. Both were delish! Even though I'm not a vegetarian, I liked that there were a lot of options for vegetarians. I highly recommend this place over any other Indian place in Jax!
Wow, I can't believe there's actually a really good Indian restaurant in Florida. I've been to ton of restaurants in Orlando, Jacksonville, Miami, Tallahassee, Gainesville, Ocala, Tampa, St. Petersburg, etc. Not one of them is the quality of this restaurant. Being in Jacksonville it was in one of those nondescript mini malls located behind some chain (Hooters or Outback or something else crappy) and thus I wasn't expecting much. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the restaurant was inside, very clean, every table already had three different chutneys (Tamarand, Onion and Cilantro I believe) and when you sat down they immediately brought out some Papadum to enjoy with your chutneys. The chutneys were all delicious. Next was the service, I've been to *a lot* of Indian restaurants and I don't think I've ever had service this good and I've never minded that much as long as the food was delicious. Well, the waiter was great; he asked us questions about what kind of food we liked (I'm a vegetarian) and had suggestions based on that. Rather than trying the samosa that you can get anywhere as an appetizer, he recommended the cauliflower which was very flavorful my co-worker even liked it and he's not a fan of cauliflower! The rest of the meal was just as delicious and it was so much food that I had some leftovers for the next day. Great food, great service, good prices, if you live or are traveling to Jacksonville you need to eat here. I feel guilty for how glowing this review is, but believe me I love this place and can't wait for a second trip.
