Enjoying a great night out during "A Night at Market Square," Cielo was one of the restaurants offering specials on both drinks and food with some live salsa music.

Who can resist live salsa music with $2.50 small margaritas, $4.50 large margaritas and a selection of appetizers for $1.95!!!

The place was packed, mainly because there was a large birthday party going on in the middle of the restaurant. Luckily they were cleaning up a table big enough to seat all 5 of us. So we were seated within 5 minutes. Even though we were seated rather quickly, it took about 10 minutes to get a menu. It was a bit annoying but I understand what it's like to be a server and have a party of 20+ come into the restaurant and everything becomes chaotic!

We finally got the menu and for that night the $1.95 appetizers and drink specials were for the entire night. This place does happy hour and reverse happy hour...can someone say after work stress relief? The margaritas were pretty good and the mojitos were simply OK. The food was surprisingly good and arrived in a very timely manner. I had the shrimp empanadas, calamari, and sweet potato quesadillas. All had great flavor and weren't over seasoned or greasy in any which way.

Our server was very attentive to our needs and apologized for the craziness.

I'm definitely coming back here to celebrate happy hour or reverse happy hour!

For such a highly rated place I was unimpressed.  A few friends of mine had been here a couple times and I finally decided to go with.  All this talk of $2 and $3 appetizers... but they are ridiculously small... ie. a single tapas not an appetizer in the traditional sense.

The service was sub par, I had to go get my own sweetener for my tea since the waiter couldn't be bothered to bring it despite the conversation about how there was none on the table.  Then he flat out ignored me asking for a refill!

Oh... the sangria was not great and the margaritas very average.  The place looks nice and maybe the food is good, but my two bites and bad service left me with a poor taste in my mouth.

It is Friday night and my husband and I just had dinner at Cielo Mexican Bistro and it was Amazing!

We read some of the negative reviews and can honestly say that our first visit has been very positive.  Our waiters were very nice, cordial and very pleasant.  The manager even came to our table to make sure we were being taken care of.

It was happy hour, $2.50 drinks and $1.95 appetizers, so we both had a small house margarita, a chicken tamale w/salsa and jalapeno shrimp.  The  tamale was very flavorful and the salsa was different from what was served with the chips, which by the way were good.  The jalapeno shrimp was so tasty.  The chips came with the creamy tomatillo salsa and a red salsa.  The salsas had a spicy kick.

I had the fajita chicken tacos (2) which came wrapped in two corn tortillas, charro beans and rice with a garnish of pico de gaillo, guacamole, sour cream with small black beans and corn.  My husband had the spinach and sweet potato enchiladas(the sweetness of the sweet potato puree in an enchilada was interesting and very good), charro beans, rice and the same garnish.  Our food was very tasty and tantalizing! For dessert we shared the tres leches which was very good.  (see my pictures that I added).

I know that everyone has different experiences at different times, but we had a very good time at Cielo and can't wait to go back.  And to our waiters a big shout out for making our first time a good time that was had by all!

Last week, I didn't really have the best experience at Cielo's, but decided to give them another chance. I took a group of friends with me for Cielo's reverse happy hour that's from 9pm to closing. Their first impression of the restaurant was that it looked really chic and modern, then the comment was made by one friend that she was low on cash before her payday at the end of this week and didn't think she'd be able to afford anything. I told here, there's nothing to worry about, you can afford this, trust me.

So we all opted to dine on the patio and people watch. We had the same waiter that I had last week, Steve, and he was great and very funny. We received a complimentary plate of chips with salsa and a creamy guacamole. I ordered a sangria and a few others at the table did the same, and another friend ordered their large margarita (which is pretty big and a great deal for 4.50). Patrick, the bartender, does a great job with the drinks, they weren't watered down, but were very good and sometimes strong. We all decided to eat off each others plates, so we had several order of the chili glazed chicken drummettes (the chicken is very crispy lightly tossed in a sweet and spicy glaze), avocado rolls, beef brochettes, and ceviche.

Our food and our drinks were brought out to us in a reasonable time frame as opposed to my last visit, so we got our food fairly quickly than I expected. That was a big step up from the last visit. I asked our server if there was extra help in the kitchen that evening, and replied that there was. Between all the drinks, mini appetizers, and chips and dips, we were stuffed, well at least for the time being lol. When the check arrived, everyone was shocked that it didn't cost as much as they thought it was going to be. Everyone was very pleased and we had a great time. Some said, that they'll keep this place to themselves so it won't become so packed that they won't be able to come and enjoy happy hour in the future. Others said that they'll spread the wealth and we'll have to do this again soon, like next week soon... lol.

They had really good service here.  The food was pretty good, I don't remember what I got, so it wasn't that memorable.

What I do remember are the chairs.  I liked the mix of dark brown and the yellow.  Chairs... oohhlala.  I like.

Great service.

In my experience, there has been fine dining, and there has been Mexican food. Two mutually exclusive, and equally delicious categories.

That is, until we had dinner at Cielo last night. I was expecting a semi-typical Mexican restaurant, and this place had me stunned when I walked through the door. Seriously, one of the best-designed dining rooms I have -ever- seen, and being personally greeted, seated, and assured our satisfaction by the floor manager gave our dining experience that extra-classy touch.

The menu is full of tasty-looking Mexican and fusion dishes - we had 4 or 5 of them, and everyone's choices were excellently prepared. They also tasted quite good, from the noises I was hearing around the table. I wanted to be a little adventurous, but I am such a sucker for fajitas.. and they were killer.

Better yet, the prices are entirely reasonable (comparable to Ninfa's Original) and a bargain considering the service, quality of food, and atmosphere you're getting for your hard-earned dollar bills. All-around, one of my new favorite spots.

Give it a couple weeks, and then look for the guy in the dinner jacket going face-deep in the steak fajitas. Five stars.

We ate here earlier in the week and I have just realised that it is my third time to eat there and I have neglected to write about it. This is upscale Mexican at downscale prices. The service is good, it is a lovely elegant setting and the menu is very varied and has some lovely, non Tex Mex offerings. The spinach and squash enchiladas are wonderful, I had mine with a decadent mole sauce, it was just right. Not too sweet and with a nice kick. The price of under $10.00 is very, very reasonable. All the gourmets/gourmands/greedy guts in our party loved it and will go back for more.

Across from the Hotel Icon/Voice Restaurant, Cielo has some serious food competition in its immediate vicinity.  The good thing is, not only does it hold its own, it does so at a price point that is accessible to everyone.

The thing to do on your first visit here is order several appetizers and a couple of margaritas.  The flavors in all the dishes are both complex and unique, so it would be hard to get a feel for the entire menu without having a bunch of dishes.  Plus, 90% of them are under 10 bucks each, so how can you turn that down?

Between 2 of us, we ordered the sweet potato tart, duck spring rolls, roasted stuffed quail, and ceviche.  The best of the crop was the quail...it came with a really suprisingly good grilled heart of romaine, stuffying that was both sweet and savory, and a thick, smoky sauce covering the quail.  The next best thing was the tart.  The crust could have been a little crisper, but the goat cheese on top was good thinking by the chef.  The ceviche was very well cooked in the lime juice, which will please those that are squeamish about the raw thing.   The spring rolls were ok - they could have put more duck in there, but the dipping sauce was great.

It's a beautifully-designed restaurant with a great concept, well-priced menu, and flavorful food.  I just hope the downtown location allows Cielo to flourish like it should.

Can I give it 5 1/2?!  (well, the food and prices, at least)

Five words to sum it up....yummy margaritas, cheap happy hour.
Now, don't confuse "cheap" with bad finger foods or low quality.  The food was very fresh and not average "tex-mex".  All things were fresh versions of tex-mex favorites with some upscale twists and flavors.  The great thing about the happy hour is that you can try so many different things for $2 a plate.  We didn't eat off of the regular menu, but if the happy hour food (which is smaller portions of their regular appetizers) is any indication, I'm sure it's great, and will be back to try more.

I went here for happy hour in search of something in downtown that was unique and new, and not too expensive.  Cielo did not disappoint!!
The interior is well lit, nicely decorated, and open.  The windows let enough light in to balance the lighting well, with the inside nice enough that it's a pleasure to face inside and let your eyes feast as well.

The only marks against Cielo that I have to give is the speed of the kitchen on our visit (although the waitress was great).  It seemed to take quite a while to get our relatively small happy hour plates out.  That being said, it's definitely now our list of favorite HH spots!!

My parents are gung-ho about downtown. When they heard that there were two new restaurants opening on Main they walked over to check out them out. They walked up there one day and got a quick tour of the place by the hostess.

The first chance they got they took Ian and I there. I was impressed. Not just with the decor of the place, but the moment we walked in the hostess walked straight up to my parents and welcomed her back and introduced herself to all of us. She then introduced us to the manager who came back a couple times to make sure we were satisfied with our whole experience.

So we got seated and started enjoying ourselves right away. Our waiter was a nice guy, a little awkward and quiet, but he had learners jitters I am assuming. The restaurant is incredibly well designed. They have a mural painted on the ceiling above the bar, a huge painting on the back wall, and a really cool table in the middle of their wine racks.

The menu is great, and I actually had a rather impossible time figuring out what I wanted to eat. I went for the tamales, and I was not disappointed. They were excellent, and the tomatillo-poblano sauce added a great smokey flavor to an already brilliantly seasoned dish. I was a little disappointed by the black beans, but that hardly took away from the dish as a whole.

What blew me away was the price. It was a great value for the quality of the food, the service and the ambiance of the place. You will not go wrong checking this place out, and it is a perfect addition to downtown.

I was at a conference last week in Houston and was staying at the Hyatt Regency, sans car.  Houston (like Dallas) can be a little bit of a beating without a car unless you have unlimited $$ for a lot of cab rides...and the area right around our hotel was a restaurant wasteland....everything looking mediocre or really expensive.

So I was even more excited than usual to find Cielo.  As others have mentioned, the atmosphere is nice: the ceilings in the main dining room are soaring, there's nice lighting that isn't too dim to read a menu but not bright enough to hurt your eyes after a few margaritas- it's aesthetically pleasing and cool but not at all pretentious or "fancy", in my opinion.

But the best part?  The PRICE.  Really, for this neighborhood, the decor, and the interesting menu, I would expect it to be a lot more pricy.  A person that isn't gorging could easily eat here for $15. My friend and I had just gone to a cocktail reception with appetizers, so we weren't starving...we ended up ordering the potato fritters, a bowl of tortilla soup, and empanadas...and a margarita of course (frozen).  I liked ALL of it..and that's rare.  The aioli chutney underneath the potato fritters was delicious, her empanadas were good, and my tortilla soup was excellent.  Even the margarita didn't have that awful "margarita mix" taste--and it was perfectly white, not that sickly almost-flourescent yellow---delicious.

Even the service was great-  we had a young waiter that did seem a bit nervous...but he was so adorable (in a non-lecherous way)!  He was completely friendly even though we weren't ordering real entrees and we stayed at the table a long time...and he even gave us a free small side of guacamole when we asked-  nice guy, good service.

If I lived nearby, this could easily be my fave neighborhood restaurant---they should open a second locaton in Dallas.  We luuurve restaurants like Cielo here.

When my husband and I walked in, we were a little surprise by the decor. It was quite elaborate for a "Mexican" restaurant. My initial thought was "uh-oh, this is going to be pricey". But in actuality, the menu prices are very reasonable especially when compared to the food you get. My husband ordered the tamales and it came with all sorts of condiments. I had the Plantain Pork dish - it was tasty and spicy. I would equate it to Mexican curry, if there's such a thing. We both enjoyed our food!

We went on a weeknight so it wasn't very crowded. Service was prompt and friendly. The manager even made an effort to check up on us which I thought was a nice touch for a new restaurant.

We will definitely be going back.

I came here on a Friday night with Regina S. and a few other friends.  Our overall dining experience could not have been any worse.  The service was abysmal and took forever.  The only silver lining was that our server, Donnol (at least that's the name that was on the receipt), looked just like Manny Pacquiao.

I was invited to Cielo's for a spare of the moment kinda date and I had  a wonderful time. The atmosphere was perfect for chatting and I felt very comfortable. The staff was incredibly friendly, which was an immidiate plus. The restuarant is very unique in all it's detail. There are wine bottles used for decoration at the bar and  other random places throughout the restaurant. The mural behind (more like on top of) the bar was beautiful. I thought the Chandeliers were beautiful as well. The lighting was perfect and the music was very entertaining. Our waIter was great and even helped me out of a little situation. Here's the story: my date wanted me to have a shot, but being that I dont drink, that would have been a problem! I really get dizzy and start acting funny (as in haha funny) from just one shot! when my date went to the bathroom the waiter asked me if I wanted the shot and I said NOPE! He then offered to bring me iced tea and make it look like a shot to fool my friend... I thought that was such a funny and wonderful idea I consented.  When he came back the waiter brought me my "shot."  My date asked me if he could smell it and I almost panicked when he went to grab it . But  thankfully the waiter passed it to me. I used all the acting skill in me to make believe I was really drinking alcohol, and I think I was successful. It was hallarious and I never told him a thing! I loved that waiter! lol Now back to my review. The food was great and the prices still better. Cielo's really looks like a more expensive restarant than it is, and it is definitely worth trying.

Their happy hour menu is rediculously cheap, that's definitely a must try! here's a link:

This restaurant has an excellent happy hour menu.   $2.50 Sky martinis, $4.50 large margaritas and $1.95 food menu.  We tried the calamari, duck rolls, chicken wings, ceviche and tres leches cake, of which were all very flavorful and filling.  The staff is very friendly and informative about the chef's background and dishes.   The humongous windows are great for people watching in downtown.   There is also a reverse happy hour!!
