mmmmm.   Funky decor, and excellent Cuban roasted pork.   The dishes are California cuisine meats, salads and sandwiches.   The recipes are as funky as the decorations with great sauces and takes on traditional dishes (chipotle pesto chicken sandwich).   I'll be back!

I have eaten at Beach City Grill 5 or 6 times, usually for lunch and once for dinner.  There is limited street parking and a public lot about a block away.  The restaurant has a funky decor, very Caribbean.  The chairs and booths are in need of repair or replacement..

The food here is outstanding and very unique.  I've never eaten anything here that was not good. Where this place fails is its service. The waitress/hostess (same person) just acts like customers are the biggest inconvenience, and is annoyed when asked for anything!

The group I was with last time we ate there for lunch ordered a plate of french fries.  They were delivered well ahead of the entrees and we were not offered small plates to place individual servings on.  One person in our party asked "do you have any ketchup?" the waitress' response was "yeah... do you want some?" (no, we just wanted to know if you carried ketchup!)

Despite my saying "thank you" for everything she brought to the table, not once did she respond with "you're welcome."  Heck, she never even cracked a smile!

I don't know if they offer free refills on soft drinks as she never checked back on us after serving our food. She has had this demeanor every time we go there, which is usually once every year or two!

Despite the food being really good, I refuse to patronize a place that treats its customers so poorly. So, only one star from me, and no more visits until things improve!

I have a friend who just moved to the area so we thought we'd check out some local places.  Were referred to this place from the owner of Off the Vines.  We bought a bottle of wine and then proceeded down the street for lunch at Beach City Grill.  Luckily, on our way out of the wine store the guy "warned" us that the woman (owner?) who waits on you at Beach City Grill is rather, ahem, gruff. (to say the least).  He wasn't kidding either.  They do seem very irritated that you are even in there ordering their food. (or at least she does)

However, I still give the place 4 stars because the food is that good.  Maybe that's why they are rude to you?  Because they know how good the food is and you'll come back anyway?  Who knows.  Just be forewarned, and dont get discouraged by the awful, horrible way that you'll be treated when you walk in there the first time.

My advice, leave a giant tip (which we did).  She was very nice to us as we walked out the door.  :) (hopefully she will remember us next time). haha

Here are my 2 reasons for going to Beach City Grill.  The roast Cuban pork and the desserts.  But everything is good.  One of my other favorites is a sandwich with grilled eggplant and roma tomatoes.  Delicious!!

This chef-owner hole in the wall is my favorite casual drop-in spot in Pedro.  Funky to the core, the ever changing Caribbean-based menu is a delight, and the Cuban medianoche or roast pork platter is my idea of heaven on earth.  But the real reason for coming here is the dessert menu -- they have the best pastry chef in town.  Forget diet and enjoy the calories.
No wine-beer license, so bring your own end enjoy no corkage fee, which makes dining out here in style really reasonable.
Complaints:  I think they close too early -- if you dine at 8, it is too late to eat here, which means the lose a lot of my would-be business.
