Located on a street within walking distance of some good restaurants (Taro, Cianci, and Raymond's), all with al fresco dining, it was difficult at first to decide to give Church Street Cafe a try. However, it's situated right next to the stage for Montclair's outdoor weekend performances, so we grabbed a table out front.

It's a BYOB, which prompted a jog across Bloomfield Ave in search of a bottle of chianti, but the service is both friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items, the portion sizes are large, and the food is fantastic. On top of the crusty bread served with sundried tomato and olive oil for dipping, we had the salmon trio, olive tapenade, and cheese platter appetizers, and the filet mignon and lobster risotto for our entrees. Needless to say there was no room for dessert, but have no fear! Take a quick stroll down Bloomfield Ave to burn off some calories and you'll find any number of pastry shops and cafes to fultill your after-dinner espresso or tiramisu needs.

Oh, and best of all...most summer nights, Applegate Farms sets up a pushcart of goodies outside the rear entrance to the Clairidge! Great food plus the promise of homemade gelotti...what more could you ask?

I enjoy going to the Church St. Cafe for breakfast.  Their coffee and stuffed french toast is very good.  We had recently went for lunch, and they passed off wrapped up arugula as a $16 lobster wrap.  There was 1/2 of a lobster tail in that came from a very small lobster.  Go for breakfast, sometimes they have live entertainment which is nice.  Outdoor seating is also a plus if you can get a seat with an umbrella.
