Considering it's a block away from me, it sure took me a while to actually sit down and eat at Church.  It's sort of a weird establishment.  For one, though there are multiple church-like structures in the Fenway, this is not one of them.  More relevant, though, is the juxtaposition of music venue and restaurant/bar.  More to the point, a place that mostly has pretty loud music, combined with a kinda high-end-y gastropub.

Anyway, it works.  They have an okay selection of beer.  Nothing really standout and imaginative, but there's certainly enough for people who have reasonably good taste in beer.  The food is pretty good; above pub-food prices, but not hugely spendy.  As is my tendency, i couldn't say no to mac and cheese, which i'd like to have finished, but i was on a date and too busy talking.  Oh well, next time.

They also have some nice chairs and couches in front, and someday i'd like to make a commitment to getting there early enough to sit and drink on their couches all day.  You gotta have goals.

Ok for cocktails -- not so good for their wine selection.  Decided to stick with the cocktails they had on the 7 Deadly Sins menu.  I had Greed & Vanity.  Both were good.

I should have shut my mouth, but I decided to point out to my date that the "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" drink descriptions were subpar and generally uninformative.  He read it, bet me he could guess the ingredients, and then proceeded to guess every single ingredient involved in "Death" when our waitress returned.  I can't decide if this is a cause and effect of him being insanely smart and a surgeon, or me being blonde and lacking the vocabulary or alchol knowledge to "read between the lines."  Either way, while it was hilarious, if I were alone I would have had no idea what those drinks were...

Also, Church is split into two venues --  there's a strange Concert area that we avoided -- from the people we saw outside on that side, it was a different crowd than what was in the restaurant.

I've eaten here at least a dozen times, mostly for dinner, over the past year and a half. It's reliably good.

    - The salads are fresh and usually well balanced (great use of salt).
    - The service is generally attentive and competent. The one time I remember a significant delay for lunch/dinner, the manager spontaneously took note and gave us complimentary something (don't remember!). Brunch service (2 visits) was poor.
    - The fried artichoke appetizer is a great mix of tangy, crunchy, sour, sweet, and salty.
    - They usually have at least one bi-biphasic dessert, which I like (something hot-with-cold, soft-with-crunchy, etc.)
    - Smart, upstanding cocktails.
    - Their ratatouille last summer was perfect.
    - Their vegetarian selection is usually okay, i.e., usually a step beyond the old butternut squash ravioli. I've been worried that this part of their menu has been shrinking, however.
    - I've tried the flatbreads a few times, and they're really mediocre. Don't know why they're still on the menu.

Their brunch could use the most improvement, but I tend to have trouble with brunches. The tea selection and service is pretty weak. The brunch options tend to be in the meat-and-potatoes or pile-of-sugar categories. It can be hard to get vegetables and fresh flavors.

Food is pretty good.  Drinks are a what you would expect being in Boston.  Seeing bands is not the best, it is very small and the floor gets wet and slippery.  There is also a noise restriction so it usually closes at 11.  The worst thing are the bouncers.  They seriously take their jobs to seriously.  Fail!!

The food was good. The whole experience started out a little shaky. Both my fork and my water glass were dirty and one of the stalls in the bathroom didn't have a latch on it so the door could not be closed at all. (I know, I know...picky picky)

The Food: The appetizer was muscles with duck fat french fries....OMG, is all I have to say about that...so good. I had never even heard of duck fat french fries before and I highly recommend them.

I had the cedar smoked salmon with root vegetables and this amazing sauce that tasted like garlic and butter but more decadent. My husband had the half roasted chicken with green beans and sweet potato tater tots! Those were really good. The salmon was a little undercooked in the middle and sort of fishy (there are ways to cook fish so that it isn't overly fishy tasting, I do it at home all the time.) The root vegetable hash, my husbands sweet potato tater tots and his chicken was really good (I sampled everything :-) My husband had the apple crisp for dessert and devoured it so I'll assume it was good.

The Service: It was okay...the waitress didn't seem overly thrilled about being there and wasn't particularly friendly. When she was reciting the specials menu, my husband thought she was done and started talking, she actually cut him off kind of rudely so that she could finish. I didn't like that.

Since we have only been here once I can't speak to any kind of consistency. We will definitely go back because the food actually was pretty good. Hopefully they were just having an off night with the dirty dishes and the crappy waitress. Everyone has their days I guess. We'll see how it goes next time.

I was super disappointed that Sweet Cheeks was closed for a private party, so I came here for drinks and dinner

The bar/restaurant side does not open until 5, but they let us in at 4:45 without a problem

We ordered cocktails from the seven deadly sins and they were great

We moved on to wine, the calamari, rangoons and sausage slider special.  Everything was delicious

We weren't crazy about any of the desserts, so we had some delicious port instead

We had a great time, however, my only disappointment was the way the menu is organized...by what is in a dish, so it is hard to tell what the portion size is unless you consider the price point.  Call me old fashioned, but it is much easier to look at a menu arranged by apps, salad and mains.

I look forward to going back, and trying more items Church has to offer

Eh. I wanted so badly to like this place but I just don't. We decided to try it and the food was nothing special.

    Hummus:
It was just blah. Not bad, just nothing great.
    Mozzarella Flatbread Pizza:
I swear there is better frozen pizzas than this - was not good.
    Mac & Cheese:
This came from high reviews so I had to try it. It came in a skillet with a baked topping. It wasn't bad by any means, but I don't think I was a fan of the truffle oil.

She also recommended a special lemon tart thing for dessert which we tried, but it was awful. Service was nice, but nothing special.

Positive notes; the gluttony martini was delish!
All in all I wouldn't go back, maybe just for a drink but I'd suggest skipping the food.

I went there just for a beer with a friend. I ordered seasonal lager [i think]
The beverage was served with rim of cinaommon and sugar - that was really good.
We sat outside, which I really liked.
The interior is very nice - modern, but cozy - but not any different than any other "newish" restaurant.

    Over all, it was great.
    I will be back.

This review is based solely on their brunch.

First, the good: Great cocktail menu! It's both creative and delicious. It's also a stone's throw from my house, which makes it a great place to go to watch a Sox game and drink

The bad: I'd skip the food, especially for brunch.

Church is also the only place in Boston that has questioned my green card as an ID, and then proceeded to act really rudely about it.

We went in on a Sunday evening to watch the end of a Sox game.  Apparently, the card that the federal government uses to determine legal presence and work eligibility in the US is not good enough to verify my birthdate, and I was asked for a MA backup by the female bartender. I pointed out how ridiculous this situation is, and told her exactly what I wrote in the previous sentence.

She then proceeded to make faces at my party whenever she looked in our direction, and came by literally every 3-4 minutes, asking us if we wanted another drink. NO. We already said no three minutes ago! The place was completely empty, so it wasn't like we were taking up space, and my pal was finishing up a beer that I didn't particularly enjoy. Either way, her behavior made us feel incredibly uncomfortable, to say the least. The real kicker was when she came by YET AGAIN and said "I guess you guys won't be getting another drink, since you're drinking her drink." Seriously? What are you trying to accomplish here by harassing customers?

It was a serious bummer being treated like this, though, because the male bartender who usually works evenings is way cool.

But seriously, with so many options of bars and restaurants in the neighborhood (especially with the new Peterborough Street restaurant row reopening), I would not be likely to go back.

I went to Church last night and sat on the patio. I had slightly low expectations due to the previous reviews. Luckily, my expectations were exceeded and I really did like Church.

I was very happy to see my favorite beer, Stone Ruination on the bottle list (and for only six bucks!!). My boyfriend and his Mom both ordered cocktails and were very happy with them (the Vanity and the Wrath). The cocktail list was eccentric and exciting but the draft beer list was pretty boring.

We all shared the special salad -- mixed greens with grilled peaches, pepitas, goat cheese and honey mustard vinaigrette. Delicious. Great combination and the honey mustard vinaigrette was not overly sweet.

I had the tagliatelle with clams. I loved it! However, I think that other diners might think that is was incredibly salty... i just like salt. The pasta was homemade which was what attracted me to the dish and I was not disappointed. The seafood was fresh and not overcooked. The best part was soaking up the extra, incredibly salty, broth with the amazing bread that came before the food (saved it for this purpose!).

My boyfriend had the pork paté. Apparently, the beer mustard was spectacular and the pickled carrots and onions were a nice contrast to the richness of the pork. Overall, a really tasty midsized portion.

Our other companions liked their dishes a lot as well. The bass, a special, came with a fresh tasting ratatouille and a yummy pesto. The most disappointing part of the meal appeared to be the duck fat fries that came with the mussels. I did  not try them but apparently they lacked flavor.

For dessert we split the pumpkin whoopie pies and the brownie. I liked the inventive whoopie pies better but others just preferred chocolate type desserts.

All in all, especially since I live down the block, I will definitely be back. I am very surprised at the negative reviews. We had good service and delicious food in a nice atmosphere.

i've been to Church quite a few times. The food has been top notch as well as the beverages.  The service I've experienced for both restaurant servers and bartenders, has been excellent. However the past Tuesday night I was a customer there I was a bit unimpressed on behalf of the Manager on duty in the restaurant section.

I could tell he was a manager due to the fact he was dressed differently and that the staff seemed to go to him with questions. What ticked me off was I tried to engage him in conversation, but was disregarded and he simply walked right by me like I WAS not a customer. I did not see him in the restaurant for another hour, I'm not exactly sure what he had to attend to as a manager. As a loyal customer I choose to simply engage in conversation and grow to trust the management of places like Church. This experience left me bittersweet with Church.

In addition multiple times I witnessed him disrespecting and arguing with the servers/bartenders in the presence of customers. It took him an hour to deliver a new bottle of Rum to the bar. He didn't  seem to be running the place, more so checked out and didn't give a F*ck.  I do love Church and nearly everyone who works there, however my last experience was mediocre due to this

Place would be decent, but recent visit on a Sunday left a lot to be desired.
Service was absolutely atrocious. There were maybe another 4 customers in the entire place, yet attentiveness and promptness was something like what you would expect in an ultra-busy eatery.
We were joking that the waiters were collecting dew off the grass and filtering it, because that is about how long it took them to refill out waters.

Food was decent. Fries were kind of funky, but the rest of the food was solid B.

Considering the service, not going back.

What a great modern gem of restaurant. Their cocktails creations are named after the 7 deadly sins. Vanity and wrath were two of my favorites.

The food was really good. I had the lobster sliders and the chicken arugla flatbread. My girlfriend had the mixed green salad and fish tacos. Both were great dishes.

Whether you're going to Fenway for a game or going to the concert hall, definitely worth the trip. Better than any other restaurant choice in the Fenway area!

Choosing between three and four stars for Church in Boston's Fenway are was a bit difficult.  I suppose if I could, I'd ideally give it 3.5.  Here's why.

I've been to this restaurant a handful of times--only for brunch.  Every time, without fail, the food is better than good.  The kitchen manages to take the simplest dishes and puts a decadent, juicy spin on them.

The 50 Mile steak and cheese was served on a crispy, buttery brioche with a succulence that can only be too its perfect roasted peppers, sauteed onions and thinly cut steak.  The spicy green dipping sauce is icing on the cake.

The BLT and burger were equally impressive.  Breakfast is a slam dunk, too.

And if you like Bloody Mary's you have to try their rendition complete with a bacon infused vodka.  Maybe the best I've ever had.

BUT I do have one big problem with this restaurant.  Just about every time I go, I feel like I'm actually suffering through a Sunday service-- all I want to do is leave.  Our first round of bloody marys and beer took almost as long to our meals did.  Ordering feels like a privilege.  By the time my second beer came, I had already been hoping for the check for fifteen minutes.  I'm actually pretty sure my waitress left and no one noticed.  It got so bad that I finally made the decision to wrap half of my sandwich in a napkin to bring it home for fear that they'd actually have to run to the Shaws down the street for a box (see uploaded photo if you think I'm lying).

If you have the patience of a saint, you'll be rewarded with a divine meal.  Just make sure you don't have plans for at least an hour and a half prior to sitting down.

I had been to Church once before, but I felt like this second time knocked it out of the park. Church has two separate entrances: one for the restaurant and one for the club. I've yet to eat in the restaurant, but it's on my to do list.

As Bartender Tom explained it, Church is different from most of the bars in the Fenway area. You can come here, eat things that are far better than the normal chicken fingers and fries, hear a local band play and hop on the pool table.

Bartender Tom nailed it. This place is all those things and more ... ladies, you must visit the bathroom there. Such rad graffiti. Also they tend to have a special that's not advertised and you only get it if you ask: shot of whiskey and a PBR for $5. It was great to see their mix of crowds. Some of the older regulars get scared off by the young people that flock in for concerts, but some stick it out, enjoy the act and play some pool until closing.

Ate here for brunch on New Year's Day. There were no open tables, and about a 15 minute wait for 4 people, so we decided to sit at the bar, which was pretty empty when we arrived. The bartender was nice, not overly friendly, but attentive. The brunch item does not list the sides that come with meals, but the omlettes do come with home fries and toast. I ordered the mushroom omlette (with truffle oil, caramelized onions and gruyere) and it was huge! I didn't even eat half my meal! It wasn't very cheesy, which I like, but a little dry.  I wish I had ordered the egg white fritta special as I wasn't that pleased with the taste of the mushrooms )not sure what kind they use?) The home fries were amazing! Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Huevos Rancheros wasn't the greatest. It came on two grilled tortillas with black beans, chorizo, salsa fresco and pepper jack cheese.  I like my beans to be served almost like refried,  which is how I am used to eating this dish. The 'salsa' was a bit too vinegary.

The atmosphere is great and the prices not bad. The food was ok, loved the home fries, and might go back again sometime to try other dishes.

I did eat dinner here once, many years ago, and it was delicious so this is why I would give it another chance.

TO THE MANAGERS/OWNERS: The first time I went here (I went for brunch), we sat very close to the curtained entrance where the registers are. For about 10-20 minutes, we heard someone LOUDLY reprimanding another and just ripping that person in two. Oh my goodness. Seriously, please do not do that when customers can hear you. That is just so unprofessional. A waiter came out with just the most upset and shocked face. It's really sad to witness that happening.

In any case, onto my review:

Church is the neighborhood bar and restaurant I always say I want to go to, but never do on account of my laziness.

Their cocktails are muy delicioso. I tried their Conquest cocktail (from the Four Horsemen selection). By the way, can we talk about how awesome it is to have cocktails named after the four horsemen and the seven deadly sins. VERY creative, Church! My boo love love loves their bloody marys. Unfortunately, I believe that they only serve Bloody Marys on the weekends. They only make the mix then. Please make Bloody Marys during the week! I beg of you!!!

Chicken and Cheddar Waffles. How dare you read my mindgrapes and place my favorite thing in the world on the menu! How dare you! I was hoping for a more sauce to go along with the chicken and waffles (although usually more honey sauce would work fine or perhaps a cup of gravy), but other than that, I was having a good time. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and breaded. I couldn't ask for a better combo.

Crab Rangoon: Big fan. Love crab rangoon, and this was no exception! I wish there was a little more, but that's just my stomach talking. I know it's an appetizer. If it were a meal though... hmm. :)

Muffaletta: OK, so I don't eat this as a sandwich, but apparently people do that. I pick at the different flavors I want in my mouth at a time. The olive salad went deliciously well on the bread and the prosciutto and porchetta were perfect. Not too salty! My only gripe with this one was that the chive chips (an otherwise awesome concept) were not really crunchy. They felt too oily. It was almost a rubbery texture. BUUUUT not gonna lie, I still ate the whole thing.

Stone-Fruit Cobbler: Not worth it. The peaches tasted like canned peaches. Just not what I expected. So bland. I felt very guilty for eating this because they were just empty calories. Stick to the savory stuff and you will be happy!

The service was nothing special. Our waitress the last time we went there was not really too attentive. There were things we needed and she was no where to be found. It wasn't THAT busy. I saw her standing around a lot. Maybe they were just not happy to be there. After what I witnessed the first time when I overheard someone getting reprimanded and insulted, I would not be happy there either.

Conclusion: I'm giving three stars because of the not-so-great service and the unprofessional reprimanding... and the stone-fruit cobbler.

Look, I'm pretty transparent. I'm perfectly comfortable with admitting that I'm a dirty liberal (East Bay Area, what?) and that I'm Agnostic.

That said, when I rode the T with my roommate the other day, my answer of "I'm going to Church" made her very, very confused.

    "The bar/restaurant...not the religious place."

    "Oh, got it."

It's a bit of a dimly-lit hike from the T. Being as how I'm used to walking around Oakland at night, this didn't bother me too much.

The place is a little dark, but not vampirey dark. The portions were a bit small and the prices a bit much, but I expected that based on the place's atmosphere. However, my roasted chicken was rather delicious. (The chicken and waffle looked kinda disappointing...but that's because I prefer to eat them with syrup and not green gravy).

But the whiskey drinks, and they specialize in a lot of them, steal the show. It's been a long time since I've gone to Drink; but Church really gives them a reason to be nervous.

I seriously adore this place...if for no other reason than it lets me pretend to be one of Boston's wealthy elite even though my budget for the night is $25. It's classy, swanky, and the boasts a complicated menu brimming with fancy things like arugala, grilled pears, pork belly, and warmed goat cheese served with succulent glazes.

The food is always mouth-watering. My sliders last night were simply incredible, and my beau's macaroni and cheese was the best I've ever had. Absolutely delicious.

The ambiance is fun, too. They really play up the "church" theme with stained glass windows, Gothic print on their menus, and an formidable list of alcoholic masterpieces named for the seven deadly sins and the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. It could have come off as just too much, but they pulled it off nicely.

and yes, I am one of those people who thinks it's incredibly clever to say "I'm going to Church on Sunday morning".

Church is a two headed monster. One side is a swanky little restaurant and the other side is a music venue. I have been to each side once and they were both excellent.

I went to the music venue on Halloween and there were lots of people there, reasonably priced drinks, and fun cover bands. Definitely a place I would like to go to again.. if there are bands that I am interested in.

I went there for brunch just a few weeks ago and it was excellent. The atmosphere was very cute with high top tables as well as couches. I ordered the chorizo omelette and it was delicious! They also have appropriate sized portions, which is great. Their drink menu was very tempting and I will definitely try one of their signature cocktails the next time I am there.

You'll notice that I said "next time" because I will definitely be going back. Definitely for food, possibly for music, it is a cute little place in a great location.

Came here for brunch before hitting up Boston MFA.  They had so many good choices that I couldn't decide if I wanted breakfast or lunch, and beyond that what I would even order.  I decided to go with their special - crab eggs benedict! yum! it was super delicious, but i was shocked when the bill for $15 came.  i wish i would have known that my breakfast was going to cost that much.  either way, it was delicious.  The home fries that came with it were so good too.  Nice and crispy, the way I like it!

My roommate got the toad in a hole, which was also fantastic.  I kinda wish I had gotten that instead.

If you're up for a pricier brunch, come here.  I think it's A-OK!

2 of my friends and I went here for brunch on Sunday and I wanted to like the place but everything seemed just a little off.  I would give Church a second chance for another meal to compare to Sunday's experience.

First, a few comments about the brunch menu - there is no explanation of any dish coming with sides and none of us received hash browns or any sort of side typical to a breakfast plate so I am assuming none of the entrees come with them? While I appreciate a short, clean-looking menu, this type of information is important.  Also, there weren't any vegetarian options in the entrees, which was a little disappointing.  I was able to request my 'huevs rancheros del diablo' to come without chorizo but it would be nice to see a few meat free options on there.

The restaurant was pretty empty and were seated right away, which was a huge bonus but also a little suspicious for a sunny Sunday at 1:30.  The service was the part of my review that holds me back from 4 stars.  Even without sides, our dishes were delicious (my friends each ordered the 'toad in the hole' and liked it). It just felt like a lot of people were working but it took a solid 10 minutes for the waiter to come to our table to get our drink order and the same for our food order.  Also, I ordered a side of pancakes which never came until halfway through eating I asked about them and was told they were whipping up a fresh batch in back and it would be out soon, which I am pretty sure was a creative lie because they did not come out until we were completely finished eating.  The waiter was apologetic and did not charge us for them, which was very considerate.

Overall, this place has potential and the food is solid.  The ambiance is clean, bright and modern and the price point is right on the mark.  I look forward to coming back and having a 4-5 star experience (I hope!).

My wife and I hit this place up on a Sunday for Brunch. It is in a hard to find spot in the fenway area, with outdoor seating, which was full so again, we ate at the bar.

The place is very nicely set up with couches in the center, great for a big group.  The bartender when we went was clearly pretty new and overwhelmed dealing with service bar needs. I ordered the Angel Gabriel Bloody Mary and was ecstatic, possibly one of the top 3 best bloodies I have had in the city . I ended up getting 2 although the second one took a while. My wife had the blood orange mimosa  which tastes as good as it sounds.

We started with the hummus with the grilled pita wedges. Amazing hummus, mised with diced cucumber and Feta , we could not get enough.

My wife ordered the margarita flatbread which came out cold, but was so good she ate most of it anyway. I had the huevos ranceros, which were perfect.  A poached egg in the middle of a black bean and salsa taco. didn't leave a bite left.

The crowd are a bunch of posers who you mainly just want to punch in the face, but there is no denying the quality of the food

I had brunch here yesterday with Angela D. and I am so glad she introduced me to this place!

We arrived just after 11am and there was no wait for a seat. I recommend coming early because by the time we left, there was a wait for a table and there aren't very many tables.

I originally came for the Toad in a Hole but I ended up ordering the Corn Beef Hash Skillet. I loved it! The over easy eggs were cooked to perfection and I loved the sriracha sauce mixed in with everything.

Angela ordered the Wild Mushroom Omelette which had goat cheese, caramelized onions, and truffle oil. I only tried a bite but I really liked it, too. I didn't taste any truffle oil but that was a good thing since I am not really a fan.

Service was friendly but on the slow side. It was pretty empty when we arrived but our food still took a while. I didn't realize because we were playing catch up.

One thing I noticed is that the portions may seem small to someone with a larger appetite. They were fine for the both of us, but if we were to bring our SOs they may have left wanting more.

    3.5 stars but rounding up.

I would probably give Church 3.5 stars if I was able to.

The restaurant: I've been here twice - once for brunch and once for dinner.  For brunch, I got the banana flapjacks which were pretty darn good, but left me hungry. There were three pancakes and unless I have an abnormally large appetite, three just didn't cut it!!  For dinner, I got the spinach and goat cheese salad without bacon and the margherita flatbread pizza. There aren't too many vegetarian options, but the great drink list makes up for it! :) The decor in the restaurant is awesome - I love the big couches and the bar.

The club: I went here once to see The Timberfakes, a Justin Timberlake cover band play. The atmosphere was alright - I'm not a huge "club" person but I can see how this place would be fun to see local and small bands play.

I would recommend Church for brunch outside on a nice day - they have a nice outdoor patio.

    Warning : Brunch review only

But oh man, was it delicious.  It started with the decision that we were just too lazy to cook and didn't have any tomato juice in the house.  A proper celebratory brunch always includes a bloody mary, so off we went to church.

We were thrilled to find MULTIPLE choices for my beloved breakfast drink.  By the end of brunch we had tried all four (? - I believe it was four) and they were all fantastic.  Obviously different ones appeal more or less to different people but mmmmmmmm... I liked them all.

To add to my brunching delight, the food was delicious!  We started with crab ragoons to aid in the hangover relief and I cannot wait to come back to try these sans hangover. SO delicious.  From there I ordered the huevos rancheros and my friend order the wild mushroom omelet.  Her serving was HUGE.  The omelet was huge, the hash browns were huge, and there was a pile of toast.  She was determined to make it through about 75% but then had to give up.  My serving looked meager next to hers, but I'm fairly sure a large pizza would have so it's not a bad thing.  I absolutely loved my huevos.  Everything about them was juuuuuuust right.

With a full belly and a look of satisfaction on our faces, we sat back to wait for the bill.  But what is this? They brought out fresh made donuts.  Well... if you insist...
HOLYCRAPTHEYWEREAMAZING.  I'm half tempted to go back right now just to get them.

If I wasn't the least bit concerned about money or weight I would eat here as often as I could just for the bloody marys and donuts.  The other food was FANTASTIC, but it's hard to compete with vodka and a warm donut.

The building Church is in is gorgeous, I'd love to live there (if only I had the kind of money that would allow that, huh?). I'm confused by why it is called Church...it's not in a church, it's not on church street, I don't think anyone is praying there, it isn't church themed.

The service was kind of weird. Our waitress seemed nervous, flustered, and just kind of meh.

    Again, the space is great.

I do question why they have a line waiting to be seated when there are multiple open tables (one 6 top was open the entire time we were seated and there were plenty of people waiting).

The food was pretty good. I had a mushroom, caramelized onion, and goat cheese omelete with home fries and toast. The omelete was cooked well and the flavors went pretty well together, but it could have used a savory element. Mom had the same food and traded half her omelete with my sister for half a veggie omelete which she preferred. My dad had the BLT with fries and it had ample well cooked bacon and wasn't overloaded with tomoato. He enjoyed it. If you know my father, you know he is hard to please. Andy had the steak and eggs. It looked pretty good. There were only three steak tips though, not exactly a hearty serving. I also question the fries as a side instead of homefries on this plate.

It seemed like a lot of food was going back to the kitchen uneaten, not sure what that was about...our food was fine.

A pretty good place to come before a day game at Fenway.

I dined here after getting into town after a long day of traveling and was STARVING!  We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival.  My friends and I started with the grilled margherita flatbread and a round of drinks.  The fun part about this restaurant is the signature drinks are all named after the 7 deadly sins:  Wrath, Lust, Greed, Sloth, Gluttony, Vanity, and Envy (all $10).  Vodka is usually my go to liquor so I debated between Vanity and Envy before settling on Envy which was vodka with kiwis and was of course "green with envy".  My friends ordered Vanity which was vodka and grapefruits.  It tasted kinda cosmo-like and I was happy with my decision.

The flatbread arrived and we devoured it!  It was enough for 4 people to share and not get stuffed.  Since it happened to be the first day of fall, or my entrée I decided on the Butternut Squash Tortellini.  There is something like butternut squash that says fall!  My friends all ordered the Veggie Burgers with goat cheese and pumpkin seed pesto.   All the entrees seemed a little bit small...Mine came with about 5 tortellinis lined up on a little plate drizzled with what they called a "scotch-brown butter" with kale on the side.  I enjoyed them...but wished they came with more!  I ordered the half portion so I would recommend going with the full if you aren't getting a salad on the side.  I actually fibbed about how much I liked them since all my friends wanted a bite and I didn't want to share my small portion!  So if ya'll are reading this right now - sorry! :)  My friends didn't care too much for their Veggie Burgers which were served with fries.  One of my friends asked to sub veggies for the fries and the "veggie" was plain lettuce without dressing.  Not to exciting!

We all ordered a 2nd round of drinks and I debated branching out and trying a different "Deadly Sin" but decided not to fix what wasn't broken and ordered another Greed.  Overall, this place was fun and tasty, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are super hungry as the portions are small and the menu isn't that extensive.

Came to Church last Saturday for a pre-Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum brunch with a friend. Church is in walking distance, so it made our choice fairly easy.

We got there right around the time they opened (11am) and were one of 2 or 3 parties. The place really started to fill up by the time we left an hour later, and seems like a good place to go with a group, with big, comfy-looking chair and many different seating arrangements.

Anyways, on to the food: it was excellent. As good as any brunch I've ever had.  I got the Toad in a Hole, which is a THICK slice of syrup drizzled french toast, with a poached egg and whipped cream, topped off with 4 slices of perfect bacon. Needless to say, I was stuffed and very satisfied =)

My friend got the Eggs Benedictine, which was, according to her, very tasty: "the portions were excellent as the egg, holandaise and muffin built upon one another, each working in harmony in the diner's mouth." (clearly, she is a better/more descriptive writer than I am).

Service was good; our coffee cups weren't empty for long, which is uber important at 11am on a Saturday.

So, A+ for ambiance, A+ for delicious food and prompt service! I'm already looking forward to coming back.

great! great food (really tasty, a great play on comfort food), the best drinks (that are so strong, but so delicious), great atmosphere (it is really dark and gothic but they play the beach boys). I really recommend the fried artichokes and the steak tips (the truffle fries are amazing).

Worth going here just for the drinks. they have one for each sin and the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse. Envy is my fav!

Huzzah! A tiny music venue with incredible sound quality and tasty drinks!

Now, if you order a bud light, they WILL hand you a can of bud light. That said, order the Church brew -- it's light, tasty and comes in a glass. Go figure.

Clean bathrooms, great acts, pool table -- and also kind of in the middle of nowhere. Yes, that is a bit of a pain. ~.5 to the closest T stop, so bring your bus map or suck it up. I'll be back to see the Allstonians later this month -- boom!

Moving to Boston from San Francisco i was dying to find a place that had a great brunch and CHURCH was perfection. There drinks are terrific and all have a unique charm. I would recommend the pulled pork skillet and the bacon bloody mary! I love this place. Only downfall is that they don't open till 5pm during the week and on a Sunday you can't order a drink till 12pm in Boston.

Haven't been to the music venue portion of Church, but the restaurant is really good. My boyfriend and I have been there probably around 10 times as he lives close by and the service has always been good and the food is consistent. My bf says the bloody marys are awesome and get extra points from him for the bacon-wrapped tomato which was unbelievable the first time and just good the other times (because the bacon wasn't hot on subsequent visits). I like their beer selection and they also make a good margarita. I also like the theme of the restaurant and the "Seven Deadly Sins" themed cocktails. The religion theme is cool and interesting without reminding me at all of my CCD days which is a very good thing.

Last time we went we got the mushroom, bacon and truffle oil flatbread which we destroyed in about 2 mins. Delicious. For dinner I got the special which was a clam dish which was good albeit a little forgettable and he got the fish tacos which he really liked. They get extra points for the outdoor seating, bacon-wrapped tomato bloody mary toppers, and the nuns-with-guns postcard they deliver to you with the check.
