It was sad to see the owners leave. I welcome the new one's with an open appetite.
As for past "guff"- Its Brooklyn. Shits been like this since jump.

Your standard quick diner. It's not the nicest place, but as for simple Brooklyn diners go, I'm a fan. I'll occasionally grab a bite to-go on the way home (mmm, grilled cheese with tomato), and be completely satisfied. It's not the healthiest place to eat though, but diners generally aren't. It's fast, easy, convenient, and quite tasty, in my opinion (that's what she said?). All in all, I say go for it.
Warning: They only accept cash! This was an issue once, but luckly I had $3.55 in change to pay for my grilled cheese!

This place has new owners, new staff, new attitude! I went here last year and didn't like the guff from the staff one bit. Now it's a utopia. Well.... More like a clean diner. Yeah, it's very clean and doesn't leave you feeling like a french fry when you leave. I smelled normal, too! Super polite, cool staff. The other customers seem to be enjoying things. A lot of smiles and high-fives and butt slaps. I mean...
you know? i think this place is pretty great, and i think the owners are pretty great, too. ive had most of the basics by now. everything from sandwiches to burgers to eggs (including the spinach and feta omelette...well, of course that's good here) and the quality and good service has always remained consistent. i think its a solid place with good personality.
* anecdote time *
about a year ago, right before my roommate and i moved into our apartment close by, we were exploring the area in attempt to get more familiar with it. we stopped in this place, and though the owners were bickering, it wasn't too extreme nor did it effect the service one bit. we found the waitress to be attentive and pleasant and the food to be great.
we left and made our way toward the park to walk around some more. it wasn't long before my roommate realized he had left his bag in the diner! we rushed back, not yet being aware of how safe the places and residents of kensington can be. when we walked in, the waitress was waiting happily with roommate's bag. she placed her hand on my shoulder, looked my roommate in the eyes, and assured us that we were in a very safe place where no one would ever steal from us, and that we would be well taken-care of here.
as we walked out, the old man owner guy let out a maniacal cackle then shouted "I TAKE YOUR MONEY!" (he was kidding, of course.) cute.

Food is good to mediocre. Owners constantly bicker to the point of indigestion.
The food was good the times I went here, and they don't limit the refills on the coffee which was nice. I have however, since boycotted this establishment. I can't deal with listening to the waitress & cook (husband & wife?) constantly curse each other out, plus curse out the occasional patron, all over the blaring TV set. I'd rather go to Faros, even if it only means 2 cups of coffee & weird music. The last straw was when they wouldn't let me in with a beverage (I think I had a juice). I was planning on ordering coffee & eggs, anyways, so it's not like it mattered. I think she just said it to be mean.
Just really good, nuts-and-bolts dependable diner and breakfast food. I like getting french fries instead of home fries with breakfast here. The breakfast sausage I got was a nice big Italian- type link. They do Greek stuff too, which I haven't tried yet. Nice to have a place like this in the neighborhood.

In response to the user who wondered if the waitress and the cook are husband and wife, they aren't!! I thought so too as they bicker about everything from the baseball game to whom is more Greek, but in any case, the service really ruins the fact that they have the best breakfast around. Faros often has roaches which are visible near where they stack dishes, so I go to Church Restaurant. However, as mentioned, the waitress (who has been working there for 16 years) only hears what she wants. You say no butter on the pancakes, they show up with butter. You ask for crispy bacon, you get jiggly, greasy pieces, etc. But the coffee there is amazing! I would suggest getting breakfast from Bagel and Deli and getting the coffee here. In and out.
