9 reviews for Chula Vista Golf Course
Great location for walking or jogging
I am not a golfer, but I enjoy walking the three-mile path around this golf course. The weather is almost perfect year round in Chula Vista, and path offers views of the golf course, duck pond, play areas, and parks. I recommend this golf course to anyone who enjoys leisurely walks.
My biggest beef with a golf course is when the sand is like mud. I agree that sand should be a penalty, but it has to be playable. The sand here was not playable.
The greens rolled OK. The cart policy was rough and cart path only which kind of blows.
Maybe 2 stars is a bit harsh. Call it 2.5. But the reality is that there are much better courses is SD for similar or even less cost to you. As I've mentioned in a few other golf course reviews, use http://golfnow.com to book a time here. DEFINITELY not worth playing here for full price.
We had a surprise 80th birthday party planned for my Nanay (that's what we call my grandma) and had it here at the Chula Vista Golf Course. It's a nice venue, clean, and lots of parking spaces. Depending the size of your party will depend on the room that you get. Our party consisted of 175+ so we got the bigger room. Very pretty with the lights and sheer fabric hanging from the chandeliers.
Lisa was the woman I was working with and she was very helpful and very professional through it all. The price is pretty up there which includes the food and that can vary depending on what your menu is. But it's served buffet style so you can satisfy those who can can their eat on.
Definitely a place where you want to throw a nice function, make sure you bring loot for the place, and work with Lisa cause she's awesome!
There are not many spots at the driving range (only 13), however it doesn't seem to get too busy either. The geese wandering around everywhere add a nice touch to the course. Hopefully, nobody ever hits one of them with a golf ball.
While our hero was hitting balls near the far end of the range furthest from the golf shop, a staff member came by to warn them of the structural integrity of the wooden pole holding up the netting separating the driving range from the course. It was apparently held up by a rope tied to a tractor and not too reliable.
Below is a brief guide on how to get the most out of the driving range here:
1. Walk into the golf shop.
2. Buy a $20 range card.
3. Walk out to the automatic ball dispenser next door.
4. Fill up two and a half plastic buckets with 250 balls.
5. Find an open mat. Put your buckets down and put a ball on the rubber tee.
6. Select your favorite driver, perform the "waggle" and make a few practice "air swings".
7. Hit the ball as far as you can.
8. Repeat step 6 and 7 until frustrated or empty.
9. Release a string of four letter expletives to fill the awkward period of time as your golf buddies laugh at how horrible your drive is.
10. Break driver over right knee.
Somehow the cashier wasn't surprised at all when our hero walked into the golf shop with a bleeding leg asking for a band aid.
PROS:
- Free real grass short game putting green for warm up practice.
- Discounts for Chula Vista and Bonita residents.
- Very cheap for an 18 hole course.
CONS:
- Mats only in the driving range, no driving off the grass.
- No numbered yardage markers in the driving range.
- The range balls are fairly dirty and cheap. Do they not wash them regularly?

After years of driving by this golf course I finally decided to try this course out. Man... I need some serious help with my golf game! This is a decent course but then again I'm not very good so I can't say how challenging this place is. I consider keeping the ball on the intended hole challenging enough. I did wish their carts had GPS so I can get a read on distance. Who am I kidding? I swung my 3 iron for 3 straight shots. Yes I am that good! It maybe time for me to look into some golf lessons.
I should give this one another try because I think I went during reseeding.
Plays and feels like a municipal course. Course didn't seem to be well maintained like some of the other munis I've played.
Flat course, and there can be a lot of wind.

Great course for what you're paying. There are other courses out there that are just as good or worse that cost more to play. This is an awesome course if you're just getting used to playing on a course or if you haven't played in a while. Not the best course I've ever played but definitely worth the money.
pros...great on thursdays, nobody there, oops perhaps i should not have said that. just kidding, really a nice place to go if you are a novice, you will not get rushed around by all the more advanced players. i went to the driving range, and it was just me. i am still in the driving range part and have not graduated to a full or even a half game but i am trying.
cons...i think that they charge a little bit more for a bucket of golf balls but i guess it is ok. you get a nice little card with a set number of balls on it. $6 for 75 balls. you could go down the street and get a large bucket of balls at least 120 or so for a buck more. but then they don't have a golf course to maintain.
Reasonable prices if booked with a discount golf site. Course in decent shape. Typical full sized course with out too much difficulty. It's been a while since I've played there but it gets the job done.
