I wish the old place was still around - I preferred the "quaintness" of the other. Regardless, when this place changed ownership they kept the ol' school recipe. Nice job Asians, nice job.
When I was in high school (Hazen raisin, yes) I went here like EVERY mother effin day. "But Grace, you're so skinny!"
Thanks.
I always got 2 maple bars, their maple topping is AWESOME. I would show up to class with that shizz all over my face still craving more.
I recently went back for a visit and I'm so glad the taste is still the same. If you can get there when they are fresh outta the donut love making machine, you're one lucky terd. That's when they are absolutely THE BEST. When I had surgery my step-dad surprised me one early AM with 12 of these little bastards. I'm not lying - I ate all of them in one sitting. Where is my trophy Chucks?

For those of you upset that they aren't open on Sunday, this was something that the prior owners did (Mormon) and for some unknown reason the new owners kept it the same way

Also - the prior owners moved to Arizona. And guess what? There's a Chucks there now...I eff you not. I was on a business trip down there, came across it, went it and casually asked "Um...any relation to the Chucks in Renton WA?" - the woman was ecstatic that I knew that.
Damn I'm awesome.

A while back a friend told me that Chuck's had the best maple bars he's ever had...  Finally got to try em and they are DEELish!  Super cheap at $1.25.  Very fresh and fluffy, the maple topping is more a whipped frosting than typical glazed icing....  could easily eat a few more.  The Apple Fritter i have to say was a no no for me.  :(  Sad cuz i love fritters.  Thus you lost me a star.  Lots of apples and crisp on the outside but kinda mushy... no nice fluffy give on em but rather dense.  Good service and great availability/selection.  Way to go on the Maples!!!

Sorry but these are so much better than Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts or any other donut shop you can think of.  Always fresh tasting no matter what time of day you get there.

Vince sums it up nicely. Chucks is close to my house. I always drive by, but I've never stopped in until recently when I had doughnut loving relatives descend on my house.

Your average variety of doughnuts with nothing special or out of the ordinary. I ordered a few apple fritters and found them a little gross. Crispy burnt edges and undercooked middle. The rest of the doughnuts were good.

The man behind the counter (maybe chuck?) just kinda stared at me while I perused the doughnut case. No "hello" or "how can I help you".

Forget Krispy Kreme. Heck, forget Dunkin Donuts, even if they were still in the Seatte area. Chuck's Donut is quite possibly the Chuck Norris of donuts. It will kick all other donut shops' butts.

It's good old fashioned donuts. No fancy weird seasonal fillings. No novelty toppings. The hardworking people behind the counter are too busy to stop and make you a fancy espresso drinks (so deal with it). The maple bars have just the right amount of the most amazing fluffy topping, and not too sweet. (No, it doesn't look fake and glossy like some other maple bars. You know what I'm talking about!) The cinnamon sugar cake donuts are my favorite, perfect with a cup of regular black coffee.

Take note: If you hit that snooze button 1 too many times on a Saturday morning, you will be greeted with a hand-written sign at the door: "No more donuts!" That's right! You snooze, you lose. Chuck's Donut is worth leaving the house before 7am on a Saturday, bedhead and all.

Recession, Shmession! I notice all these food establishments making their servings smaller, and Chuck's is no different. Their doughnuts look like they were made for mini-me's. It wasn't helpful that the diminutive woman was eating behind the counter when I came in and just keeps eating without acknowledging little ole me for a good few minutes. Not to further hit the nail, but my scone tasted old. I know you can do better, Chuck's Donut!

"What Veronica Said"

The maple Persian donut (like a cinnamon roll but with maple and maple and maple) are divine.

There were bear claws and scones and even some kind of inside out Boston cream thingy.... imagine a donut in the shape of a pastry shell with the Boston cream and chocolate frosting in a well on top.

The staff is direct... and even though I was there in the afternoon with no one else in the store they were a bit short with me when I asked questions. They weren't brisk or rude... just over the edge of non-friendly (1 star deduction)

They would be a great daily stop place during a morning commute.

Leave it to Asians to make any food better.  This place makes the best I ever had apple fritter: crispy on the outside and the apple chunks are almost buttery and moist.  The maple bars are fabulous, enrobed in fluffy maple frosting that's not too sweet.  On my way out I also noticed a sign that said that they make boba drinks.  I'll will have to come back to try these as they are within walking/biking distance from my house which can become dangerous.

I hate that this place isn't open 24 hours! Or on Sunday! Or even past noon (or whenever they run out of fried deliciousness)! But I just can't deduct a whole star for that.

Best donuts ever (and this is the kind of place that spells it "donut" rather than the high-falutin' "doughnut" with a no-frills selection to match). While I prefer Top Pot to anywhere else in the city, if I ever find myself in the Renton Highlands (like, if I'm visiting my responsible, suburbanite, SAHM sister), I stop by Chuck's to get a dozen... but pretend I just got one for me, my sister, and each of the kiddos and eat the rest myself!

"Your Average Donut, but above average for Renton"

The donut we had here was average at best. Nothing super special about the selection, nothing special about the taste.

Just a regular hearty donut to snack on.

The location is convenient and the staff is nice.

Not sure if there are to many other places to get donuts at in Renton.

I figure if a cop has you spread eagle over the hood of his patrol car, is able to frisk you, slap cuffs on, all the while calling back to his partner to order him a couple of vanilla French Twists, a cup'a joe with two sugars, this place must be good.

While Top Pot has my heart and my stomach, Chucks is right up there.

No WIFI, no Yuppies, no drive through, no fancy coffee, no fancy organic this and that options.

Heck, it's just a plain old skool donut shop!  Ask which are the freshest in the case and you won't be sorry.

My kids loves their mini donut holes. Five bucks and they give me a full bag. It's good old fashioned donuts and you can't find better donut places in Renton.

Yeah, yeah Top Pot has all those designer donuts that are refreshingly clean, but Chuck's has the working stiff's  donuts with a true french flair and a refreshingly clean taste as well.

Chuck's opens at 4 in the morning and the selection is slim by noon so it's pretty easy to see they aim for a different clientele then Top Pot, et al. The also don't offer the wide selection found at gourmet fat pill shops, but what they do offer is consistently some of the finest cake and old fashioned donuts you'll ever taste. The suicide bars (aka maple bars) are made with real maple and cream cheese frosting. The old fashioned look and feel like donuts from earlier in the century. They seem to keep their oil cleaner then most donut palaces which translates to that clean aftertaste so missing in the lower echelon places. (Don't you love that hydrogenated oil after taste at some shops?)

For those of us weened on distresso and choice arabica beans you'll find their coffee pretty mediocre. So pick up a dozen or so donuts at 5 am for your fellow office prairie dogs and enjoy a true taste sensation.

Sometimes you just need a donut.  Chuck's is a Renton institution; most locals think that Chuck's kicks Krispy Kreme's sugar covered tooshie.  I happen to agree.

Stop by Chuck's on a Saturday morning and you'll find high school swim teams carb-ing up before a meet, families on a walk stopping in for a maple bar, cute old people engaging in a weekend ritual, and a few people lulled in by the sweet smell of donuts.

The donuts are handmade by donut artists and are delicious.  I think you'll find it worth the drive!

I've been going to Chuck's Donuts for as long as I've lived in the Highlands area.  Say... since about 1975.  Since that time I've lived in Toronto, Dallas, and Denver.. but never have I found a donut as yummy as at Chuck's!  Of course, driving by their shop every morning at 6am on my way home from the graveyard IT gig is not helpful to my waist.

My favorites are the Maple Bars and the Bismarks, but the old fashioneds, cake, jelly filled, twists, and all the rest are to die for.

If you like the krispy kreme plastic sickeningly sweet donuts with no substance then you may not appreciate these donuts.  I've tried 'top pot' too and couldn't see what any of the fuss was about.

Yes, these are HAND MADE with thick maple and chocolate frosting.  I wouldn't call that "rustic", I'd call it "gourmet".

Their packaging isn't fancy, but who wants to pay inflated sales prices for that??

YUM.

My only gripe -- they are closed on Sundays.

SSSSHHHH!  Don't go to Chuck's Donuts!

(I don't want to have to wait in long lines when people outside of Renton discover this place!)

Their maple bars are the size of a brick and the bear claws have real bear in them.  (Not really.)

Pretty much what every other review said here already.  While this was much more quaint when it was a 2-table side of the road shack, the new facility gives them the breathing room to offer the same level of quality donuts and coffee as they did before without the parking hassles or elbow to elbow, butt to butt experience as the former.

I've been going here since the days of winter swim team practice at the Hazen High School pool circa 1985-1989.  A lesson learned from then was not to eat a maple bar with OJ before swim practice.

I withheld one star due to the fact that they aren't open on Sundays!  Sunday is about the one morning a week I have time to go on a donut quest, and unfortunately, I'm stuck with whatever I can get at a supermarket or one of the other donut chains.

You don't know donuts until you've been to Chucks.

Too bad it's all the way out in Renton... I guess actually that could be good.  I remember going there when I was young, and it was this old rickety shack.  With all the urban sprawl that's going on out in the Highlands, it has less charm (it's now in a strip mall), but still tasty donuts.

Definitely dee-lish.

Forget Krispy Kreme!  The goods are at Chuck's quaint little donut shop.  Stop by and get your fresh baked mixed dozen, some coffee...and then visit the famer's market in the same complex to pick up your groceries for a fantastic daytrip in good ol' Renton!  I agree with Melissa A. about the maple bars ... hell to the yeah.

Who needs crispy cream when you have chucks! If I am going to splurge and have endless fat calories I will eat Chucks! Their maple bars are mouth watering perfect! My kids love the chocolate raised and their coffee is drinkable. Give it a try, you may never set foot in a crispy cream again.

Nothing against Chuck's loyal following... but I really didn't find anything extraordinary about this place. Yes, I agree - the donuts are good, but they're not spectacular. Glad they have my fave French Crullers, but whenever I get a donut craving, nothing beats a warm gooey glazed Krispy Kreme original.

I only get donuts from this place when I'm in a time crunch for breakfast, since It's like 2 min away from my house.  Their donuts are a little on the dry side, and the glaze on the maple bars are rough, as if it was applied with a dinner knife, although rich and yummy.  I guess perhaps it's because they're hand-made.  The best way to describe them is they're "rustic".
