Well, I don't want to tell you how good the kolaches and donuts are at Christy's. If I do then we'll be fighting over a parking spot. Somehow the word is out though and everyone is breaking the fast at this corner spot. Stop giving away all of Houston's secrets please!!!
To note: no flashing your plastic...it's a cash/check place only. Wow.
To double note: You can multi-task and eat your calories while repairing your windshield rock chips in the parking lot kiosk . BTW our frequent rock chips seem to be a Houston (dirty) secret too.

Hmm, not really getting all the hype about Christy's. I had heard from several people that they have the best kolaches, and when I heard that they had one with jalapeno sausage and cheese, I was excited to finally try their offerings.
I'm not sure if the build up ruined everything by basically setting a bar that no kolache could meet, but I was seriously underwhelmed by my order. The jalapeno sausage itself is not bad, but it was surrounded by a dry, almost-stale tasting dough. The dough in the ham and cheese kolaches was marginally better, but 1) it was sliced, so more like a sandwich than a kolache, and 2) the ham was that nasty pressed kind that if you hold it up to light you can see through some of the translucent bits. Yuck.
You can get much better ham and cheese kolaches at any Shipley's location, and you can get more consistency and more selection at Kolache Factory.

Lord have mercy! I have a soft spot for fried dough, a phenomenon that you can find in many variations across the globe. Christy's Texas version is light as angels' wings and deeeee-lectable. These are the best doughnuts I've ever put in my mouth Period. 'Nuff said.
When I lived next door to Christy's I ate their awesome ham and cheese croissants almost daily.
