11 reviews for Christy Hill Restaurant
I give CHRISTY HILL a solid 5 based upon the welcoming that one and all (at least I do) get upon arrival. Then a 5 based upon the incomparable view and attentiveness of the staff. And, another 5 based upon the coziness yet expansiveness of the property.
There is indoor and outdoor deck seating (when the weather permits)....thanks to heat trees that are positioned around the deck area.
Reservations never seem to be a problem unless the property closes for a private function. Parking is usually immediately in front or proximate to the front door. AND, if you come by boat, there is a public pier adjacent (bravo).
I would ONLY subtract 1 star because the menu seems to remain constant.....although they do offer nightly specials. AND, this property is not presently open for mid-day/lunch dining (what a shame! It's the economy :(
Go as a couple or as a 4-some. Occasionally larger groups (out of townies or convention goers) will partake of CHRISTY HILL. This can, if I may say so, be a bit of an annoyance......the DB level goes up and that distracts from the vistas and food presentations at any other table.
There is also a 6-stool deck bar/seating area - great just to enjoy the presence of others, various wine offerings, appetizers and or a complete dinner. CHRISTY does it all.
Again 4+. This is the ONLY real intimate lake-view property, and boat convenient property IN Tahoe City. Thanks Christy!
One of my three favorite restaurants. Outside deck is the only way to go. I usually sit at the bar there, facing an amazing panoramic view of the lake. Drinking an amazing glass of Cabernet. The Tiger Prawns were softly calling my name, so I chomped 'em on down. This is a sweet, sweet spot to entertain your eyes and your palette. A little pricey, so don't forget your wallet. Well worth it though.
Show up when they open at 5:30 prompt to sit at the open bar seating on the deck (enough room for 4-6 people, so don't be a minute late cuz it fills up immediately). Order baked oysters and a glass of wine. The raw oysters and the pickled oysters are really good too, just not quite as mouth watering.
Eat outside if you can. Food and service was excellent. Seasonal. a bit pricey but worth it. I will return here
My oh my. the view of the lake and the sunset were spectacular. We sat outside facing the lake and did not regret it (even though it got quite cool).
Almost missed it driving down the road. Glad I didn't.
All the food was excellent, service was good even though it was fairly busy. Not much of an area to wait, so make a reservation and show up on time.
Definitely romantic for couples and small groups.
June 2008 Update: NOT a good experience dining here last week, so Christy Hill loses a star. The food was still very good, with the notable exception of the soup, which was so awful I can't even remember what it was. But the service was off. Cold wait staff with sort of phony polite manners...and really slow service. We were sitting at a vantage point where we could watch the servers faces before they headed to the patio. On numerous occasions I saw servers with smirks or frowns on their faces, only to put on a big wide and fake smile right before greeting their customers. An off night perhaps, but our experience convinced us to PERHAPS stick to the basics when in Tahoe and save some $$. Original review appears below:
Our favorite Lake Tahoe restaurant. Consumately professional. Well decorated and attractive, bright room. Excellent California cuisine. Highly highly recommended. The last time we ate there, we split a whole bunch of appetizers and then a burger and the fruit cobbler. Lots of fun and a wide range of extremely well-prepared food.
Caveat: wine and beer only.
Im so old school tahoe that I used to go here when it was in the back of Squaw... Would like to go back and try it but Wolfdales always gets to me first... Sooon!
Although a huge Wolfdale's fan, I decided to try Christy Hill. The view is breathtaking and one of a kind. I really enjoyed my meal here. The food was very fresh and all of it was excellent. The fruit cobbler was unreal!
My bf and I came here on a Friday night and it was almost empty, I guess it's normally packed so I guess we got lucky. We had made reservations and had a nice corner table facing the lake, beautiful view. The food was excellent. I got the striped bass and it was cooked to perfection. The artichoke soup was good, nothing amazing. My bf got the baked oysters and said they were very good. I forget what he got for his main course...I know he liked it...it was probably steak or something. I got the pumpkin ice cream and baked apples for dessert, very good. Bf got the chocolate cake, it came with banana ice cream, he asked for vanilla instead but they still gave him banana... The cake itself was good but the chocolate sauce around it, I thought was gross and bitter, he didn't mind it. The service was excellent and our server (Katy?) was really nice.
My friends had their rehearsal dinner here and the food was fantastic, and even more so with the superb view of Lake Tahoe from the panoramic windows. Although it was May it was still a bit chilly outside, but nonetheless the deck was a good place to hang out and take photos. The staff were very helpful and courteous.
Wow, sooo good. Can't afford places like this but was on vacation. I had a stuffed poblano pepper appetizer that was super good. The chocolate mousse was also amazing although the description is a tad misleading. I can tell this is a new place and want to give five stars no problem for both food and exceptional service. One thing wrong(just trying to help)was that while our server was sharing his wealth of knowledge with us, an owner or manager lady of some sort interrupted him to talk about another table(without so much as an "exuse me" or an apology) . I am a restaurant manager at a Michelin rated pan-Asian restaurant in San Francisco and lady, come on! You had to know how much that can stick out like a sore thumb to a table. I don't care personally but people who pay for this kind of service, food, and ambience are not going to take that well and may let it reflect in your poor server's tip!
