What an amazing staff. Up to date equipment, kind and friendly service and what a comfortable environment. If you don't know what it feels to be pampered at an affordable price, visit the Beauty Box.
I went from totally black to totally blonde hair from completely normal to total mohawk and loved the feedback. I trust the staff to make the right choices for my face and my look. Check Beauty Box out. You won't be disappointed.

Chris is a down-to-earth, easy-to-talk-to stylist that you just know from the minute you meet him that your hair is in good hands. I only spent a few minutes explaining the color I was looking for, and he knew exactly what to do.
I mixed it up a little with some auburn and dark brown low-lights, and he did a full foil and cut for $135 (plus tip) as a Yelp promo...which is a pretty kickin deal.
He didn't spend as long on the cut of my hair as I would have liked, but then again my hair is very fine and not too long, so maybe I misjudged the timing. I'm very pleased with the colors he chose -- next time though, I'll be even braver and go with more red. I probably should have expressed that more, but I imagine Chris didn't want to be too bold for the first visit.
I didn't walk out feeling like a million bucks like the other Yelpers did, but I'm pretty happy about the overall job...we just didn't "click" as client and stylist as I had hoped for. I might do some shopping around for other stylists in search of that "Million Dollar" feeling... but if you're looking for an excellent stylist that knows his color, Chris is your guy.Listed in: The Oaklawn 'Hood

Have to agree with Jen C.... I was once a loyal Orange-ite as well (actually, I think I contributed to Jen's recruitment), but tried Chris out since he is closer to where I live. Have now been 4 times for cut and color and have been extremely pleased.
Chris is friendly, down-to-earth, and talented in his chosen craft. I have been getting highlights and lowlights every 6 weeks... at many salons, the first visit is good, but maintenance goes downhill... almost the opposite here - my hair looks better each visit! He keeps it healthy and the color is gentle, natural, and gorgeous... every time. And the prices are much much better than Orange.
I also love that he has on-line scheduling and an automatic notification system where I get an email reminding me when my appointment is coming up. My friends would quickly understand why that is important as I definitely can be bad about the absent-minded-professor thing and will usually forget these type of appointments. But since starting with Chris and having the automatic notifications, I have managed to keep up with regularly scheduled cuts for the first time in my life. -

Temporarily downgrading this... Here's why:
I know Chris is moving locations and obviously things are going to be a bit crazy, but I'm way overdue for a cut so I made an appointment online about a little over a week ago.
Well, today I get a call from Teresa (an assistant to Chris, I suppose), saying that my appointment with Chris will have to be cancelled because he is "not taking any new clients at this time, since he mainly does extensions." HUH?
Quite odd considering that I've seen Chris more than once and that I just received an e-mail today confirming my appointment for tomorrow. Kind of bad form, no?
The woman seemed confused and didn't even have the right time for my appointment. She seemed like she would've been content just letting me cancel my appointment and be upset, but finally agreed to push back the previous appointment.
I know that a simple cut isn't nearly as lucrative as doing extensions or a color, but still. I've loved all my cuts from Chris and this review is in no way a testament to his talent as a stylist, but what happened today is no way to treat a client.
Even if I had been a new client, I would have still expected them to honor the appointment considering that his online scheduler showed the appointment as being available and made no mention of not taking new clients.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This review goes out to anyone who has lost a favorite hair stylist/dresser in the past. I followed my old stylist around for years until I finally couldn't keep up with him. Mind you he moved salons every few months so I guess I just gave up on him. But man did he know how to make me feel and look great.
Needless to say I have been searching for a replacement for years now and have been to many salons but have never found someone who can not only cut my hair but fix it too (that's the challenge). You can get a haircut anywhere but the true test is can they fix it after they cut it???
Let me tell you Chris rose to the challenge. I brought in a few photos of hairstyles I liked and he proceeded to cut my hair in a style that fit me. Which was similar to the photos I brought in just in case you were wondering...
Chris cuts your hair dry to ensure that the style he is creating will be a something that your hair can achieve when dry. Again I believe this is probably a mistake a lot of hair dressers make. They cut your hair wet with no clue on whether or not you will be able to fix it in that style much less if it will look good on your head.
My hair was super cute when he was done and felt like I should be in a hair commercial (soft, shiny and smooth). Like I mentioned before my hair can be a challenge to fix because it is wavy/curly and I like it straight so I did have some problems fixing it myself but Chris invited me back over the weekend to give me some tips on fixing my hair.
As far as products, he uses this great smelling spray called Nano 9 that helps smooth your hair and smells sooooooo good. He also told me about a new process that can straighten your hair that is all natural and last around 12 weeks. It cost $200. Chris if you are reading this and need a guinea pig I would love to be your practice head! I believe it was called a Brazalian blowout.
If you go for a first time appt. make sure to book the yelp promo. You won't be disappointed!

Well, as I said in my review on August 9th... I am officially a regular client of Christopher Box! Friday, August 22nd, I went for my 2nd time in Chris' chair. It had been a good two - three months since I had a hair cut, and probably a good year since I had a really good cut.
I was bald until I was 2 1/2, because every hair I got was ripped out with the scotch tape my mom used to put the bows on my head. But, when my hair finally decided to come in, it came in with a vengence. Chris, who is bald, told me that someone stole his hair and he thinks it was me. I have, in the past seen upwards of a full pound difference on the scale after a "trim".
The problem when you have as much hair as I do, is that it gets heavy and round very quickly. The other problem is that when stylists try to use the thining sheers to lighten up the amount of hair, it usually ends up with crazy layers all over the place.
Chris noticed what was going on, that I'm desperately trying to grow out the horrible layers, and gave me a great hair cut to even out the layers that were still there, and shaped it so that it was more managable. I don't believe there is anything worse than trying to grow your hair out, with a bad hair cut. Now I don't have to do that any more.
I still have my appointment scheduled for October to freshen up my color and cut before I fly to Boston for Jenn C's wedding.Listed in: My Top Ratings

Chris - thanks for your reply to my post.
I respect that you guys take less than 4 stars seriously. However, I did most certainly see you as I found out about you solely through yelp. This was in mid-2009 and, as I recall, you were balancing many things including a hair-extension business.
Regardless, the experience as I described it was true. As you can see from my yelp profile, I'm not in the habit of giving tons of poor reviews. I hope that everything has calmed down now, and that these issues have resolved. It sounds like most people are happy with the service you provide.

Starting your visit to the salon with a nice cerveza is a good sign. The beer, the cut, the cute place, and chatting with Chris were all good. I took him up on his yelp special offer and I'm really happy with my new do (long layers and bangs). Chris has won over another yelper.
Chris talked me through everything he was going to do. He humored me and cut my bangs in cautious stages so I wouldn't end up with anything I didn't like. He then very graciously went back and tweaked them when I decided I wanted them shorter than I initially thought. He really took his time, which I appreciated.
I tend to keep the same boring hair for years, just out of general laziness. So when I decide to go for a change, I have these larger-than-life expectations of suddenly being transformed into crazy fabulousness. Yeah, not exactly realistic, I know. But I left the salon after Chris cut my hair yesterday feeling SO super-fabulous! Even my husband, who resists all change, immediately decided he likes the new hair. -

I had a horrible hair experience and was afraid to try anyone new, but after reading y'all's reviews I gave Christopher a chance. He couldn't have made me feel more at ease and gave me an amazing cut and color.
Comments came for days from friends and the best part is now that may hair is growing out, it still looks great. -

All this talk on yelp about Orange vs Chris Box finally convinced me (loyal orange-ite) to give Chris a shot. Aimee sent me a new client promo and we booked appointments together for this past Saturday afternoon.
Chris was super nice and took turns doing each of our hair. Aimee's color, then my highlights, then Aimee's haircut and style and then my blow-dry and hair cut. I have crazy long hair so it took forever to dry my hair (though I was loving it because Chris was using the awesome Nano9 spray that smells crazy delicious - seriously it's so good I bought it)
All in all we were there for about 3-3.5 hours - which was forever, but we both left looking fabulous. My color and cut look great and Chris is a lot more reasonable $$-wise and location wise so even though I do still love Orange.. I think I'm sticking with Chris from now on! -

Chris is AMAZING! Prior to Chris, I was going to another hair dresser. I was very loyal to her but I had received one too many bad color treatments. When I first went to Chris 8 months ago, he told me that he could restore my hair. Today, my hair color and cut has never looked better!!
I did have the pleasure of getting temporary tape-in extentions for a special event last year. People were amazed at how great they turned out.
Also, I would suggest making appointments on-line. It's much easier. -

I love Chris, his work, passion and results. The first time I went to see Chris I told him to work his magic and he did. Chris gave me a new color, cut and attitude and made me a fan for life.
Update 8/2010: Things are changing as the Beauty Box grows. Less time with Chris, more time with assistants, problems with time management. Perhaps I was spoiled before, but customer experience is changing but my expectations haven't from my positive past experiences. I'll have to wait and see. -

I am very happy with my highlight and coloring from Christopher! He is a pleasant person. Jennifer is the girl with the style skills, so choose her for some awesome up-do action. Only thing that I was a little off was that I was initially estimated one price over the phone and paid more in the end...if it wasn't for that I would have given this place all 5 stars!!! so check the status of your charges before they play with your hair. Make no mistake though, I will go back to him for my updating highlights in a few months, because he is that meticulous and good.

Again this is another reason why I love Yelp. How else would I have ever found Chris. He is extremely knowledgeable as a colorist and explains everything without having to over-sell you on something you don't really need. He's super cool to talk to and am very appreciative for the complimentary red vino that he always offers me. AND most importantly my hair color always looks fabulous when he's done!

Thank you, Yelp, for introducing me to Christopher Box and great haircuts. I had a phenomenal hair stylist in Denver and was sure that when we moved to Dallas I would never find anyone as skilled (and I had had a lot of bad haircuts before her so needless to say, I panicked at the thought of it taking me another 20 years to find someone who knows what they're doing).
Chris is laid back and effortlessly gives great hair cuts. My hair is perfectly textured and layered, and when I style it you can see all the different dimensions. It takes me less time to do my hair and it grows out well. I have had several close family members tell me that it is the best haircut I've ever had. I plan on getting high-lights done here too, but I can tell you that I have seen a few people walking out of the salon that just got color by Chris and it always looks magazine worthy. -

I stumbled upon this little gem via Yelp, and I am so so so happy I did! Chris did my extensions and I have been so happy with them! He is great at what he does, and the staff here is wonderful. It is so much more personal than a "big salon" experience, and I have officially decided to leave my previous hairdresser who I have been loyal to for 8+ years. I am getting color done next month and can't wait for Chris to work his magic!
You can make appointments online, so quick and easy. They also send you an email reminder a day or so before your appointment as a reminder, which is much appreciated with a hectic schedule. Chris is professional but still personable, and will be completely honest about what will or won't work for you. He also introduced me to some of my favorite new products, and I'm not sure how I was getting by without them. He also does a lot of great deals- hair happy hour, groupons, etc. Basically, go here- you won't regret it. -

I went to Chris after researching Dallas Hairdressers on Yelp. The reviews were so good, I decided it sounded like I could not go wrong with Chris. I had an amazing experiance and so did my friend. He is absolutely fab!!! He knew exactly what to do with my friend, who has thin hair and the color was perfect. I love my color and cut. I feel like a new person. I got up this morning and it took no time to style it. He is an awesome person, so fun to talk and really knows his stuff. Thank you Chris!!!! See you next time. It was well worth the drive from Waco.

Great customer servive. I got completely lost and was 40 min late to my appt. Box fit me in with another awesome stylist instead of sending me on my way. Very cool guy. I watched him do some extensions on a beautifull bride-to-be. He is one talented and patient stylist.

I went to Chris based on the recommendations of other Yelp users as I am new to Dallas. My experience was truly in line with that of every other yelp user that has given him a 5 star rating thus far. He has a great, outgoing personality (hey, this is important since you are going to be sitting in a chair for an hour), and I really felt like he gave me a thoughtful, personalized hair cut that combined what I wanted with what he thought would work best for my hair. The salon in which he works, Evolution Salon, has been carved out of an old home or something of the sort on Lemmon, which makes for a cool atmosphere. Definitely will be going back to Chris!

Chris did a FABULOUS job on my highlights! I got highlights back in November for just half of my hair, with a "Hawt on Yelp" deal. He knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted highlights that I could let grow out with out the root maintenance. Recently, my friend asked me if I just got highlights! Chis Box knows the trends and tricks of the trade when it comes to hair!

Probably one of the best experiences I have had getting a haircut. I wasn't sure what I wanted so Christopher made a suggestion and it was exactly what I needed. I felt really good about my haircut when it was all over. Will definitely go back!

I spent a couple of months in Dallas recently and needed a great, affordable stylist. So like yourself, I yelped and came up with Chris Box. Now I am a light golden-blonde and I love my blonde to be beautiful and natural. I have gone from Dallas to Seattle to Los Angeles and I know how hard it is to find someone that does a great blonde--Ladies (and gents)--this man is a gold mine! I was colored by Chris a month ago and my hair is growing out beautifully! I absolutely love it--and hate that I am back in LA and cannot have him as my stylist. Oh, another thing--you know how stylists seem to either give a great cut or a great color--but they can't ever do both? Chris can. I love my haircut and the layers are perfect! Not that he needed this review but he is simply the best. And he's super cool. And he is a mastermind of extension technology. Oh, the spot he cuts in? A really cool, eclectic house-salon. Just some added perks.

Unfortunately, I have a stylist/colorist that I love, (but he doesn't do extensions), otherwise Chris would be mine! I needed help thickening up my fine hair for my wedding and I was thrilled to find out that Chris, a consultant for Easy Hair, actually lives right here in Dallas. I had an idea of what I wanted and he was able to deliver. He's an expert in extensions and has a full understanding of color. I ended up buying (what I never thought I would buy in a million years) a track of human hair (whaaaaat?) that he matched to my real color PERFECTLY!! The day I went to pick it up Chris showed me how to "install" it and then threw it up in a thick, luxurious ponytail. I almost wrecked my car a few times on the way home because I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror. I had never had thick hair before and I felt amazing! The most important thing is that on my wedding day NOBODY knew I had this thing clipped in since it was such a good match and I had the fattest (and phattest) bun EVER!! Thanks, Chris!!

I am SUPER protective of my hair (hense why I have gone to the same lady for the past 4 years). She does a great job always gives me what I want! However, I recently came across Yelp and decided to check out the local salons. I have a huge audition coming up in March and April and needed to update my look to stand out amongst other blondes and burnettes! Chris did a great job with my color and my cut was just a touch up but I feel like a completely different woman! :) I have had more people (mostly guys) compliment my hair! HOW OFTEN DOES THAT HAPPEN?!?!? So needless to say I will be back. He changed my look but not in a drastic way....just enough for people to notice and for me to maintain! THANKS CHRIS and THANKS my fellow yelpers!
