Christmas Tree Lane
1 review for Christmas Tree Lane
Wow! Who knew that the people of Oxnard had it in them?
Each night from now until December 26th, F and G Streets north of 5th St in the Henry T. Oxnard Historic District becomes Christmas Tree Lane. Virtually every house on these two streets from 5th to Palm (or where G ends) is decorated with Christmas lights that range from the classy and tasteful to the grand and glorious to the tacky and Wal-Mart-y. They really go all out, it's very impressive. You can either drive through slowly or get out and join couples and families walking down the streets checking out the lights.
Our favorite house on either street is located just before G Street dead ends into the monastery or convent or whatever that is (does anybody know what that is?). It features some light up reindeer pulling a sleigh, a bunch of multi-color trees, a big light up "FESTIVUS" and the major award lamp from A Christmas Story in the front window (see pictures).
You can have your icicle lights. You can have your inflatable carousels and snow globes. You can have your seizure inducing flashing light shows. You can have more nativity scenes than you can shake a stick at. Give me a good old fashioned Seinfeld reference and "the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window", and I'm set. That's pop-culture holiday spirit that I can get behind.
Honorable mention goes to the Peanuts house and the disco ice-skating penguins on F Street.
