OMFG THE PLACE IS CLOSED ON MONDAYS!!!!!!!!!
I went here this past labor day to celebrate my birthday and it was closed. I left sadly thinking it was due to the labor day holiday and ate at the Burger King across the street since I was in starvation mode - which I'm usually in this mode to eat at this place.

YESTERDAY - It was my boyfriend and I's one year anniversary and we planned on a wonderful slumber inducing meal at Chris and Pitts. I finally figured out that my favorite BBQ place is ALWAYS closed on Mondays. There is a huge freaking sign that says closed on Mondays by the door! I guess in all my tender BBQ moments of hungry passion whilst entering the place caused me to ignore the sign.

So... the whole point of my story.... Chris and Pitts is closed on Mondays and I only go to this Chris and Pitts location since the other locations suck.

Dont worry baby I'm still not going to knock off a star since I still love you.

The food was ok, minus the fact it was borderline cold.  Portions were huge.  I ordered the prime rib - 16 oz, and it was as big as my head.  Very tasty though.

I have to say that like so many other places, this place does drop the ball when it comes to customer service.  The waitress we had looked as if we caught her at the worst possible moment.  Disappointing.  Never got any drink refills.

Come for the huge meat, but don't plan on small talk between you and the waitress.  But yeah, really - try it.

What a disapointment. My chicken with one rib dinner was luke warm. The 1/4 chicken was not a 1/4 and the white meat was dry and hard.
The garlic bread was not real warm. Don't like their beans. The ice tea was dark color but tasted water down to the point it did not taste like tea. The only good thing was the cole slaw - that ONE thing was a winner.
Will never go there again.

I have been eating at this particular place since 1980 or so. The food is exactly the same. I am really a huge fan of their ground beef steak. If you get that try it with the gourmet pepper recipe on the side.

There is no way you will leave hungry after eating here as the portions are more than enough.

Sometimes we order the children's menu  spaghetti for my son and the amount you get is unreal.

The burgers are great as well. The flavor of the meat is superb.

This one goes out too my Mom. she been coming here since 1960's I'm sure, till she passed away in 1985. but my family is still going here and a lot of my friends as well, love this place!!! the big old menus with 4x6 photos, love that. or the old western lighting and nick knacks all over the place and the aged steaks and supper sweet lady's working the place.
The prime rib here will work your mind into flavor meltdown!!! and there private barbecue sauce on the table or at the market. bring yourselves here and you will be coming for ever. most tender most flavor and most fun for the money...

This was our barbeque place to get greasy ribs and artery clogging fries, shakes, etc. for many moons.

I never made the connection that gorging myself with the huge beef ribs, fries and the vanilla shake was causing my indigestion...and upset stomach.

The staff is always cordial and the food is always enough to take some home for later.  With a change in eating habits, Chris and Pitt's is a good memory from days gone by...and I miss smelling all that yummy barbeque cooking when I walk in.

Lucille's is not too far from here and I have to say, their ribs are SCRUMPTIOUS and has never caused an upset stomach once.  So much more to choose from and includes fresh steamed veggies, tasty greens, grilled corn on the cob...yummy stuff.

Let's talk about the word "authentic".

This word is why I left the snooty world of Chowhound and crossed over to the "slightly less snooty" world of Yelp.  I have not been to China or Italy.  I was not raised in the south.  So most of the time, the word authentic doesn't mean diddly squat to me.  To paraphrase the popular seventies phrase, I say when it comes to dining out "if it tastes good, eat it".

With that disclaimer out of the way, lemme tell you 'bout one of my favorite neighborhood joints, Chris & Pitts.  Fancy it ain't.  Full and happy you'll be.  The wood paneling walls don't add charm to the place.  The parking sucks, so park in the free lot across the street.  The waitresses tuck their red polo shirts in just above their "fupa" and they don't take any shit from your picky ass either.  Your food is not carefully placed on your plate for aesthetic appeal.  When you come here, you come to grub.  I suggest...

-side salad.  You will probably start your meal with this.  It's a stark bowl of freshly washed iceberg, red cabbage and carrots.  But the bleu cheese dressing is amazing.  Crush up a bunch o' saltines, sprinkle on salt and pepper and get chewing silly rabbit.

-chili bean soup.  If the little hand written sign above the soup tureen says this then scratch your salad plans.  This is some old school big chunks of tomato watery chili.  So good when it's cold outside.

-chicken fried steak.  A lean top sirloin pounded into submission, then breaded and deep fried until golden brown.  Topped with green onion country gravy and served with buttery mash, you might want to consult your cardiologist before you order this.  They make pork chops the same way.  You're welcome.

-bbq pork sandwich.  I recommend getting it dry, with the sweet and tangy hawaiian sauce on the side for dipping.  Try this sauce on their grilled half chicken too.  Well done steak fries are a perfect match with this meaty masterpiece.

-spaghetti.  I know right?  Who orders spaghetti in a bbq place?  But it is elementary school cafeteria delicious.  One of my favorites and I always have leftovers for the next day.

I don't want any pm's or "just a note" compliments regarding smoke rings, hickory chips or the equivalent either.  If you must torture yourself by carefully scrutinizing every bite you put in your mouth then please be my guest.  But if you want to be happy and satisfied, then get here asap.

p.s. When I was walking out one time, I happened by a table with a 3 year old boy who was just getting served his food.  He loudly proclaimed, "Mommy I love this place!".  Adorable.

WE came here on our back to go home.. When we walked in... i noticed.. lighting was scarced.... very dim.. dark place..

Sat in a booth.. the menu was pretty big.. with pictures... i couldn't decide if i wanted bbq beef ribs or combo seafood.. i ordered combo seafood.. dying for fried stuff.. came with chicken rice soup.. it was excellent..

had double fries.. because i don't like bbq beans.. or beans in general.

the portion was good.. fish were a ok.. it came with salsa, ketchup with mustard( wasabi like), and tartar sauce.

my "friend" got a french dip prime rib sandwhich with grilled onions and raw onions and fries..

i saw the other table got a corn on the cob.. i wish she would have offer methat.. sintead of double fries..

the rating i gave it a 4.. due to quantity... and the soup was good.. and wish i had ordered the bbq beef ribs.

Yummy BBQ.
This place is like two worlds to me. Outside I am in Bellflower in my very familiar surroundings and as I enter I feel like I am in some southern bbq joint in Texas. The interior looks like an old western bbq diner with wood paneling.
The portion size: HUGE. I ordered a hamburger with spaghetti on the side (instead of fries). I thought it was going to be a tiny hamburger with a little spaghetti but it was actually a huge hamburger and a big plate of spaghetti. It was so big, I cut the burger in half and ate a little bit of speghtti. The rest, I took it home.
The taste: OH DANG. The burger is so good- kinda like in and out burger but bigger and better. I like it.
The wait staff: FRIENDLY. When I ordered, the waitress knew that I didn't want to eat so much and said that I can take the rest home. My bf had my leftovers in his hand and they offered a bag for it.

This place gives pretty sizable portions of food. The prices are not necessarily a bargain, but not at all overpriced. Next time, my boyfriend and I will just share a plate.

I ordered a hamburger and they gave me about 1/2 cup of onions on top of it, which was pretty cool. The salad was just fair. It was only a bowl of lettuce. Nothing special.

My boyfriend got the BBQ chicken and ribs. His soup tasted home made and the meat just fell off the bone of the ribs. I was really impressed.

The reason this place isn't getting five stars, however, is because of the server. My boyfriend had to ration his soda  because the server only came around once every 10 minutes. She didn't make eye contact when she passed us. She refilled my water once, but I drank the second glass before I started with my burger. It was so upsetting. We had such a good opinion of the place before her lack of service.

Also, I asked for the dressing on the side for my salad and she put about 1/8th of a cup on top of it. The salad is really tiny and 1/8th of a cup made it impossible to avoid. We waited about 15/20 minutes for her to take our money for our bill. Finally, we went to the to-go counter and paid (even though our bill told us to pay our server).

I'm really hoping I get a better waitress next time. The bartender seemed nice and the whole energy of the place was great. Please, don't be afraid to scream for the lazy waitress if she ignores you!

I haven't had ribs in ages.  The last time was take-out from Lucille's.  It was pretty ordinary, but I've never been motivated to find another place.

We were hungry.  It was lunchtime, and we wanted more than just the regular take out.  But of course, we wanted something filling, delicious, and inexpensive.

Enter Chris' and PItt's.  We were driving home from a family outing, and we decided on ribs take-out.  We didn't have a menu and we've never been to this place.  We 411'd the phone number and called.

The person who took our order was very helpful and suggested that we order the Deluxe for lunch for two people.  It was $32  plus tax, so It was about $36 total. That's pretty good for ribs.  It was more than enough for three people.

Now the food:  The BBQ baby back ribs, beef ribs, and chicken were great:  nice and tender.  It did not disappoint.

The sides:

1.  salad-ordinary greens (from a bag, I think) and ranch dressing
2.  mashed potatoes/gravy-flavorful, the best I've ever tasted (from take out anyway)
3.  2 pieces of corn on the cob-sweet
4.  garlic bread-was cold, but it was good
5.  fries-unseasoned and cold
6.  soup-it tasted like homemade
7.  cheesecake-very nice, not too sweet

Even though the sides were a bit disappointing because of the coldness factor, I really enjoyed the BBQ and I usually fill up on the BBQ anyway.

A very big plus is that this place is only two minutes away from my house.  It's small and it looks like a log cabin from the outside.  It has a small parking lot, so most people park on the streets.  It's right next to a car dealership.

Would I go back again?  Definitely!  I would love  to try the spaghetti and chicken fried steak next time!

I have been coming here for forever! My grandpa used to own the hardware store across the street and we would jay-walk over there for lunch breaks on Saturdays to go get BBQ. So there's some sentimental reasons too, but I keep going back. When I come to town I ALWAYS want to go to Chris & Pitts. Their ribs are killer.....gotta be beef! You can smell the meat smoking on the pit before you even get into the restaurant. It's an old place, they haven't changed it EVER and that's what gives it so much character. Some of the old guys sitting at the bar have been doing so for 30 years :)
You get a lot for your money and you get lunch for the next day! What could be better?!
And if you don't feel like eating in....then call in for takeout! It's just as good! Have fun!

UGH!  The most bland uninteresting food I have EVER tasted in my life.
My family LOVES this place and I STILL can't figure out why.  Every time they offer it up as a dinner option I either decline or peace outta there.
The steaks are always over cooked and far too expensive for their worth.  The ribs taste awful and I cannot believe they actually sell their own housemade bbq sauce.  Who would want that crap at home for ANYTHING?  The salads always have this film on them and look like they just grabbed a bunch of salad bags from Ralphs and stuck that in bowls.
EW.
I wouldn't waste my time.

Only been once, but we REALLY liked it.  My wife is from Texas, and pretty picky about BBQ. We both liked what we ordered.  This place is one of those "we ain't changed nuttin in 35 years, and what's your point?" joints.  Sit down, shut up, and eat yer grub, you will leave sated and happy.  Planning to return for another test on our next trip through Long Beach.

Yep! YEp! I am a fan of this place, one of my favs, here in Cali.
Breaded pork chops, Mashed potatoes, Ranch garlic bread, had a little of the Chocolate Mousse Cake, but it got stolen from me by a lady friend---of mine.  Its ok, because i took her baby back ribs.
This place has great service and of course, great food.

Somehow I got on the topic of chicken-fried steak when I first moved to Southern California and my roommate told me that the best chicken-fried steak he's ever eaten was from a little place called Chris' & Pitt's.

So one day we ordered out and I had the chicken-fried steak that would ruin all chicken-fried steaks for me. I love the way this dish is prepared so much at Chris' & Pitt's that I no longer order it from anywhere else. In fact, I haven't tried anything but the chicken-fried steak at Chris' & Pitt's.

If you do plan on ordering out I would recommend checking your order before you leave the restaurant. There's nothing worse than getting home and finding no gravy for your chicken-fried steak because the wait staff forgot to put it in your take out box. It's happened before and it made me a sad and hungry kid.

Good barbecue, good food, no frills, friendly place.  I like the Bellflower location because it seems very OG, like the tables and booths in here have been here forever and have a coat of smoke and grease.  The waitresses are very efficent and it seems like a lot of them have been doing what they do for a while.  The deluxe combo is a good deal, you get two kinds of ribs (babyback pork, then beef), BBQ bone-in chicken, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, baked beans, garlic bread, both get salad or soup, both get dessert, for one price, which is around $35.  It's actually more than you need for 2, could easily feed 3 or 4.  The barbecue chicken here is my favorite- tender, juicy and the barbecue sauce is quite good.  The salad here is a basic iceberg lettuce in a bowl, but the blue cheese dressing is to die for.  And they give you a LOT.  The mashed potatoes here are quite good, too.  My favorite is the chocolate mousse cake, even if you're full you can take it to go.  Other things I have had here that I loved were the pepper steak and the spaghetti.  They both were great.  Can get crowded, and there isn't always waiting room inside.  The Bellflower location's parking lot is really small, too so if you can't find lot parking you have to make a three point turn in the small lot and then look on the street.  They don't take cards so be sure to get cash beforehand.

This place is great for ribs.  I don't know why there are some reviewers that did not like the food.  I started coming here years ago, even before I could drive.  The food has always been great and the quality never went down.

I decided that I would start with one item and over time sample the other food.  I tried the baby back ribs and wasn't too thrilled about it.  The beef short rib was so tender you could cut it with a plastic fork.  I then tried the pork ribs and never moved on.  Every time I went there I always had the pork ribs, dinner portion.  The taste is just so good that I never got tired of it.  The smoke flavor permeates throughout the whole meat and just can't get enough of that.

I'm wanting to try the other fare on their menu, but the pork ribs got me hooked.  The prices aren't too steep for a good dinner.  The dinner plate comes with some green things called salad, usually I try not to stare at them too much.  After hearing the other reviews I think I might dare to venture out and try the chicken fried steak.

Parking is pretty bad here.  They have a small lot for that right next to the building, but it's a one way and to get out you have to back out because it's so narrow.  In the daytime the lot is not fill, but at night, you definitely have to park on the street, which most likely will not be too close.  From what I've seen inside, it's a tiny place.  When you order it will take some time, so if you get it to go, then I suggest ordering in advance.

The mister and I shared a full rack of baby back ribs.  It came with a huge rack, salad, beans, and fries.  The ribs were a little dry even with all the bbq sauce on it.  The beans tasted a little funny, and the fries were giant steak fries.  I got a baked potato on the side and it came with tons of butter, sour cream with chives mixed in, loved it!  We also ordered their onion blossom ( $6.95), it was huge and it was so good!  I didn't use much of the ranch dip, I used tons of the bbq sauce on it.  I ate about half of it by myself, my mister's friend said "DAyam girl!  You know that your ribs will be here too right?!"  I said "Oh, don't worry about the ribs, I'll get to those too.  Foods fear me."  Of course I killed my half of the ribs, my baked potato, and the saltine crackers that came with the salads.  The mister didn't finish his half and had to take it home.  I thought $18.95 was a good deal for a full rack, salad or soup, beans and ridiculous amount of steak fries.  It was a great deal but the flavor was lacking in the ribs.  I'd go again not having to endure a wait like Lucille's.
