A great introduction to Korean cuisine. The first time I went here it was with a Korean friend of mine and I didn't do the ordering - it was a little intimidating because so much food came to the table and I thought you had to order it all separately.  It was so good that I went back without Korean assistance. The waiter explained that all the side dishes (like about 10) come with each main course. What a relief - I still don't know what half of the side dishes are but they are very good.

Great service, great food, beautiful decor.

Besides the grilled chicken, filet, tiger shrimp and white rice - I have absolutely no idea what I ate  - much less how to eat it.

I know what you're thinking (duh, white American...). lol. Seriously, I have eaten Korean BBQ 2x before ChoSun - and I still don't have a clue. What I need is a Korean tutor to teach me about the food. I like it all - that's for sure.

The meal comes with small dishes of prepared vegetables and other delights - kind of like dim sum. We also had BimBimBob. The Waitress had to mix that up for us - and it's a good thing she did because we were all just staring at it - and wondering how to eat it.

At the end of the meal, we were brought a small cup of a sweet corn drink. The waitress tried to explain what it was - and I said it was our dose of anti-biotics. The waitress wasn't amused - and there was a look of panic on my friend's faces. ROTFLMAO. I thought it was funny.

No one got sick - the food was excellent, tasty and I'll be going back soon. Oh, the building is really cool! Lots of money put into this restaurant.

I'm a white dude, and as a white guy, it's sometimes intimidating to go to a korean bbq if you don't have an asian friend with you.

Not here.  If you've got that problem (which you will soon probably overcome), come here, because the crowd is mixed which forces the staff to be able to understand those like me.  It's a classy joint with good food - not spectacular, but good.  It's the only ktown bbq that I know of that offers bbq chicken.

We have been going to Chosun for a while - and while the portions seem to be getting smaller, and the service is kind of hot and cold depending on who your server is, it matters not. The Bulgogi is tender and sweet-ish, the Kalbi tender and flavorful.  The Ban Chan is yummy (I love the fish cake!)  It is a huge plus that you are not stinky when you leave and the restaurant itself is so cool inside. Finally the sweet tea with pine nuts at the end of the meal....  Mmmm. I wish I was there now!

this is one of my favorite Korean BBQ places because they are consistent!!!  each and every time i've visited this restaurant, the quality of the food was of the same deliciousness.  the price is on the high side for Korean BBQ...but it's not like i intend on eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner there everyday.

the decor is very nice, although time has been crappifying the furniture.  hopefully, the owner will reinvest in the place as time goes on.  if you aren't bothered by the occasional overcast of cigarette smoke, enjoy your meal in the pleasant outdoor seating.  you just can't beat SoCal weather!

This is as bougie as it's going to get for Korean bbq.

This place is nice & trendy.

My biggest qualm about this place is the valet parking. So, I haven't gone back in a while. Granted, this was a couple of years ago and has nothing to do with the restaurant  and who knows they may have changed their valet company - BUT, long story short - they keyed my car.

Back to the food and restaurant - it is probably the most expensive Korean bbq you will pay for in Ktown. And the portion size is nowhere near anything like what you would get at an all you can eat Korean BBQ buffet. So don't come here for meat galore. But that's what I like about this place - because the layout of the food and the right size or normal size portions they give of the food are all done in an elegant and aesthetically tasteful way.

This is where you go when you want to seem show off to people visiting LA or introducing Korean food to non-Korean folks. I also see a lot of Koreans here on business dinners with potential clients.

This is not the best place for Korean BBQ. It is way too expensive for the portions they give you. I've noticed that more non-Koreans come here and feel as if they're receiving the authentic Korean experience. I guess the waitresses and waiters dressed in the traditional korean dresses might help with the experience but it's really not that worth it.

There are many other places in Koreatown for great Korean BBQ at a cheaper price with the same or even better quality.

I'm always up for Korean food. It can fill me up just by eating the little dishes. I've been to Chosun Galbee a couple times. Love this place. It's a very clean place and have a classy atmosphere. What I like about this place is that they have mouth wash in the restroom. I think that's very considerate.

1) Chosun Galbee - Short rib cubes in specially formulated soy sauce
(love it; beef was very tender and tasty.)
2) Hae Mul Pa Jeon - Pancake with green onion and assorted
seafood (it was really thick not the same as other Korean
    restaurants)
3) Daeji Bulgogi - Thin slices of tender pork marinated in specially
formulated soy sauce (fat but good)

* You don't need to make a reservation if it's 6 or less.

This place is probably the most bougie Korean restaurant in Ktown.  I go here a lot for business lunches because its very clean and the service is great plus I refuse to pay $30 of my own money for lunch.  It is not an "all-you-can-eat" Korean BBQ restaurant but the meat quality is like 23 times better than those places.  Consequently, you will be paying a lot more money and having less of a belly.

This place hardly needs another review but I must, simply must, add my stellar experience to the list.

OMG. Isn't the outdoor BBQ area so cool? The wood with the steel accents are so hot.

OMG. The meat was so tender and tasty! Melt in your mouth, marinated beouf.

OMG. All the little dishes come in HUGE portions! Like three times the size of what I've gotten anywhere else. Seriously. Three times. Love the fish cake, pickled radish, bean sprouts, pickled cucumber, and brown meat.

Love the salad starter. Fresh and crispy with not too much dressing.

OMG. Cold noodle soup was awesome. Chewy noodles in a refreshing broth. The seafood casserole had the best broth that I've ever had. I had no idea that something so simple looking could have such complex flavors.

OMG. Love the clean bathrooms with the free mouthwash. For those of you on a first date and don't want to kiss a meat mouth later in the night. ;D

So I've heard that this is the place where Korean people bring their white friends to introduce them to BBQ but I think this place is appropriate for everyone! Yeah, it's a tad pricey but golly it's totally worth it.

Success.

Great tasting, authentic BBQ, superb service, classy, AND smokeless. Don't you hate reeking of charcoal-smoke-stink after eating K-BBQ?! (Dude, you can't even go out after eating bbq cuz' YOU stink and everyone knows what you ate for dinner.)

Besides their food Chosun is great because of the huge fans above the table that clear the thick bbq smoke AND smell.

Also, their service is too amazing. I felt like I was back in Korea. Back in the motherland, service is so great that they make you feel like the ruler and queen of all. I pretty much only have to worry about chewing :) But really... Chosun's ahjumah's aka sweet ol servers, were so good about even the littlest details such as asking if I needed a straw for my water. WHO ever asks THAT?! ahh.. I love the attention to details. No, I love the attention to ME.

Very impressed. I left a very satisfied Queen.

PS - Cheap 2-buck valet parking. I love valet. And it's great when it's cheap.

It's true that this place is popular among the Caucasians. Can you tell me why?
This place definitely has class. Overall quality is excellent, and the prices are well worth the meal. Well ventilated, so your hair and clothes don't reek of smoke by the time your check comes. Gets a bit crowded on the weekends, but who cares. Waiting only adds to how good the meal's gonna be.

The white people really know what they're dealing with. HEH.

Definitely not one of my favorite KBBQ joints. A bit too classy for my plebian soul. It's well-designed (with lots of private dining rooms for larger parties) and well-ventilated. They bring the meat to the table and grill it for you with lots of butter, and tell you when it is ready for consumption. All of the waitresses wear numbered tags on their hanbok (or whatever it's called), which actually kind of creeps me out, like isn't that kind of demeaning? The meat is super delicious, especially the boneless cubed galbee, but fuck it is expensive and the portions are TEENY-TINY. Banchan is average. I like the potato salad with apples but they don't give you the steamed egg thing OR the seafood pancake, which I've had at other Korean BBQ places.

I dunno. I like my KBBQ to be raucuous and smokey and do-it-yourself AND all-you-can-eat. This is a good special occasion place, especially if you come with a LOT of people-- more people to split the check with! Paying upwards of $32 for a few pieces of marinated beef just seems impossible to me. Mu Dung San please.

So I've been hankering to find a new/good Korean BBQ.
After a few minutes of yelping, I concluded with Chosun.

Extravagant? Luxurious? I'd say so. Definitely a place to bring a date to show her you got the goods, or bring your family to show them you're not dirt poor.

The Kalbi and Brisket were excellent, but the portions might lack if you're accustomed to AYCE Korean BBQ's. I tried the nengmyun for the first time, it was good, but didn't go very well with the beef.

I've read Kaz's review about how they cook your meat, and she's right. They cooked my meat faster than I'd prefer,  it was a damn battle between their tongs and my stomach.

Good eat, but watch your meat.

CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~!!

I've been here once before, and I remember being a lot more yummy the last time.  But anyways, D and I decided to check it out since he's never been here.  It's still the nicest Korean restaurant I've ever been to!  It's the first one I've ever seen that has valet parking, and fountains in the courtyard.  You walk in and there is this big area with a bar and a waiting area.

We weren't very hungry so we decided to only order two items.  They brought the side dishes, and usually they come in small little dishes, but here, they give you dishes that are twice the size, as well as a appetizer salad.  Then our food came.  We got:
--boneless kalbee
--Duk man doo guk (rice cake and dumpling soup)

For a Kalbee restaurant, I expected our boneless kalbee to be better.  The meat was a bit tough and not as flavorful as we had expected.  But then we remembered that they had given us some sort of sesame/salt dipping sauce.  Once the meat was dipped in the sauce, it tasted much better.

The rice cake/dumpling soup was pretty good.  Definitely on the lighter flavored side.  I guess I'm used to eating Korean soups that are red and spicy.

I would probably come here again since its the nicest and cleanest Korean restaurant I've ever been to.  Not to mention, there's a good mix of people that come, which makes it a little less intimidating than going to some of the other Korean restaurants.

Overpriced K-BBQ. But they do it with style.

You come for the sumptuous food, stay for the palatial ambience. Just get drunk off the shock of seeing how plush Korean restaurants can be if they tried. But then you ask yourself: do you want jazz, or do you want good grubs? Personally, I could be squatting on the dirt ground and I wouldn't care as long as the food is good.

The menu is very extensive, just about every dish you could think of available to you. Ditto on the clients. This is where all the white folks and their families come for "Asian" BBQ, because Chosun is just on the outskirts of Ktown, and any farther inland would mean entering into what is seemingly "Oriental," foreign, alien. By white folks, I mean the more aged and conservative Caucasian Westsiders who believe they are cultured and well-informed just because they've traveled to exoticized nooks of the world and appreciate sushi and wear chopsticks as hair ornaments, when in reality, they are far worse than an ignoramus since they base their "appreciation" and "knowledge" on mass global consumption---buy, eat, buy!---oh typical, isn't it, for white folks to just eat up everything and spit it out the other end?!

But I digress. Asian American Studies funks with my thinking. We Koreans do love white folks, especially their money.

So, you have middle-aged Korean women in hanbok carrying around grill ligthers and pushing carts of meat, but somehow they manage to stay immaculate and unstained. Yet, these traditionally-appareled women are contrasted by the sleek and modern setting. Aesthetically pleasing---food, servers, decor---but sight is unreliable without the other four senses.

Portion...hm. For what you pay, you would think it would be raining meat. But don't expect to cry out "Hallelujah"...this isn't that kind of hole-in-the-wall AYCE BBQ joint.

Still, be cultured AND impress a date! Isn't that the American way?

I love this place! My boyfriend and I have been here three times so far and have never been disappointed.  I always get the Korean BBQ chicken, which is the bomb! This is one of the few places that my boyfriend will drive across town for! Basically we always end up having a lovely evening for under  $80, which includes a few bottles hot sake!

NOMNOMNOM.  MEAT.  this place is pricey for korean bbq but it's done rather beautifully.  i opted to eat outside because i didn't want to smell like grilled meat, no matter how delicious.  they have plenty of heaters outside.  only thing was, it was POURING and WINDY.  unfortunately for the people on the sides, the flimsy wall thingies they put up simply were not enough to hold off the rain haha.  everything was absolutely scrumptious.  however, the lobby was kind of strange.  it was like a mini lobby of a hotel in asia.  oh and definitely get the seafood pancakes here!

You pay through the nose for this place.  No doubt about that.

But is it worth it?  YES!

The place is beautiful, very modern w/ lots of glass and steel.  Well ventilated...you won't stink one bit when you leave.  I'd say that's pretty amazing for a korean bbq place.

It's nice to see a fancy authentic korean restaurant that isn't some wannabe-fusion-food place.   And it's definitely not a mom & pop place like most of these restaurants tend to be.

One thing that was great was the service.  Very prompt, clean, and the best part was that they come do the cooking for you!

There's always that one person that gets left with that job (usually me) and seriously, it's not easy to enjoy your meal when you're too busy shuffling the meat around for everyone else.  This also helps prevent the bbq smell from getting on your clothes.  a HUGE plus!!

The quality of food and service is certainly what you pay for.  The meat and sides were great, and the naeng myun (cold noodle soup) was not as bad as pp's have described.  The Angus steak was a first for me at a korean place and WOW was it delicious!

Just a note though, you should order the cold noodle soup AFTER you eat the meat, sort of as a post-appetizer.  It's a great ending to the meal.  It has a vinegar-like taste (i usually like to add extra vinegar to mine) so if you don't like that flavor, you might not like it.  I'd still give it a try even if you don't :)

I probably won't always be coming here every time i'm in the mood for korean bbq, but if I want a nice pampered dinner, this is definitely one on my list.

Mmm Good! I love it here.! The best Korean BBQ in town. It does get crowded.
They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Valet parking. They even have mouthwash in the bathroom. I've never seen that before. It does come in handy after eating a meal.

FYI: The times we went for lunch on a Sunday was definitely less hectic.

OMG SO GOOD.

I absolutely love korean bbq, and I have lately been introduced to the difference in the quality of meat at different places. On the drive over to Ktown, I was informed that this is probably the best quality of meat to be found in LA, so I was quite excited.

The valet parking system is kind of weird, but once you are able to pull up and leave your car, you enter this total serene-like garden area that leads up to the big patio area of the restaurant. We ate at a table inside, which was also pretty lavishly decorated. And holy crap, looks can be deceiving, because this restaurant is HUGE!!! While it is a little on the pricey side, everything was so delicious, and you pay for what you get.  The service is pretty punctual, and the side dishes are all delish. I had to subtract a star for the absence of rice sheets though... mmm... stil quite tasty, nonetheless.  Love it, I definitely want to add this in to my korean bbq restaurants :)

Atmosphere: I've noticed more and more non-Korean patrons coming to this place in the past couple years. Yay to Korean food going more mainstream!
This place is one of the fancier Korean BBQs in Koreatown. It all looks very clean and elegant. The servers all wear traditional Korean inspired uniforms.
Of the many times I've been here, I've never sat indoors. For a long time, I didn't even know they had an indoors area. I definitely recommend eating outdoors!

Food: The meat is high quality. The fish in all the soups/stews are soooo fresh and delicious! The banchan is average - avg selection, avg taste; though the servers are quick to replace the empty banchan plates with new ones!
They give you complimentary boricha (barley tea). I find that you have to ask for it sometimes. Also, at the end of the meal they give you a refreshingly cold shik-heh (sweet rice drink).

Service is very good; there is parking valet. On the more pricey-side for kbbq.

The food id good, the service is great. The waiters are very polite and  they have a  ceremonial serving style.
The portions are small. It could add up quickly and could be pricey.

Their decoration is definitely worth 4 star, probably one of the most upscale korean bbq restaurants in town.

However the food is mediocre. The Galbee is good and tender but pricey and small portion. We also tried the beef tongue but nothing compared to lingua mexican style.

I may be biased in this but this is seriously the best place for Korean BBQ. Okay, yes, Manna is really good and so is Taeho, buuuuuuut they just cheap. I mean, seriously, unlimited meat? There *has* to be something fishy about those places. I'm just saying. Any place that you pay a flat rate for endless supplies of meat, I'd be wary. I mean, where does this meat come from? Just saying, putting that out there.

Anyho, back to Chosun. Again, I've always had some really great times here. It's not too pricey, and it's a great date place, a great party place, and a great get together place. It's so versatile. I've had many a laugh with family and friends, and food coma delicious. It's just pure awesome.

The service is impeccable as well. When you start to cook the meat yourself, you get this motherly waitress that basically wants to slap your hand away from the grill. She *has* to cook it for you. If she doesn't, she might get beat in the back. I swear, they're that attentive. Even when the place is super busy, they still somehow manage to slap your hand if you try to cook the meat yourself. The panchan they serve is pretty delish too, a good variety. Not too much, and not too little. The only complaint I have, is that we have to pay for the leafy veggies, but it's made up for the meat.

So I'm not judge of good meat or not, but it seems like good meat? Okay, what do I know. It could be the same meat they use at Manna and Taeho, but if I'm paying 20 for a platter, I'm sure it's gotta be good, right? Well, at least that's what I keep telling myself. But the foods are seriously orgasmic delicious. The meat is always marinated just right. Not too salty or....Koreany? The chigae is always piping hot and the right amount of spicy. The chabchae is also to die for (then again, I'm a sucker for anything chabchae).

All in all, I really don't mind shelling out the monies for this place. It's pricer than Manna and Taeho, but so much more worth it. It's great service with great food. If you go with great friends, I'm sure the place will explode from the greatness that it produces. There'll be sparkles of great floating around Olympic and Western.

Enjoy!

Solid korean BBQ.

I came here with a couple friends for dinner last week.  The place was PACKED but since it's surprisingly large, we were seated almost immediately.

For the portions, the prices were a little on the high side.  We had to order a fourth dish to satisy 3 of us...

I found it a little strange seeing people smoking in what I initially thought was an enclosed area... it turned out to be a very secluded outdoor patio.

The can accomodate very large groups.

I also thought that the mouth-wash dispensers in the bathroom was a nice touch.  They should have those in all restaurants!

The service was a little on the slow side (extremely busy), but it wasn't bad.

I had a good time... and would consider coming back.

2 bulgogi + 1 short rib + 1 brisket + 3 bottles of Soju + tip = $180

If you like a fancy atmosphere, overpriced mediocre food and tiny portions this is the place. I went here with some co-workers and will not go back.
The only reason this place got 2 stars is because the food is egible but I was still hungry when I got home. If I ever go back there I would need to order 2 portions and be prepared to be robbed by the restaurant.

I really like the ambience of this this Korean bbq spot.  The best deal is to come here during the weekday for lunch.  The meat is good and the side dishes are yummy.  My faves are, galbee (kalbi) of course, bulgogi, and the kimchee cucumbers.  This is a very big restaurant and there are always a lot of people eating here at all times of the day.  It is one of my favorite Korean restaurants, but I still have alot of restaurants to try in the K-Town area.   I am always amazing that there are so many Korean restaurants in K-Town and they are always crowded.

Chosun is the most expensive place in Koreatown and it is known to be the mother of all bbq places. The waitresses are dressed in traditional korean dresses and the restaurant cost over a million dollars to remodel. True it does look shabby outside, but when you enter inside its a totally different place. NOT ALL YOU CAN EAT. A plate of meat is also very expensive. But the Chosun experience is something that you won't find anywhere else in Ktown. The meat is subtly better, but personally I couldn't tell the difference. Personally, I think you're paying more for the vibe than the food.

Very good quality meat and I left not smelling horrible which is a def plus in my book.  It was quite crowded on a Sun night but we were seated after 15 minutes.  The kalbi was marinated very well--not overly so that you could still taste the meat.  Service was top notch and the banchan were very fresh and yummy.  Their seafood pancake was HUGE and we took half home.  I wanted nengmyun but I've had better at the shopping center Galleria.  Meal came out to be $60 for 3 which isn't horrible actually for the quality of service and meat served.  Plus valet came in handy as the parking lot was packed.

--Korean BBQ--
Love this place!!
*Patio dining
*Good food
*Proficient English-speaking staff
*Can cook the meat in the exact temperature you like... cooked right on the table grill at your table, by none other than yourself

Items to order:
*Kalbi Korean BBQ Ribs w/
*Cold Neng Myun Noodles
-or-
*Chosun Seng Dung Shim Gui (non-marinated steak)
to dip in sesame oil dipping sauce w/
*Stone Pot Bibimbap

Wanna eat completely Korean style?
Order some cold beer (Hite) or a bottle of liquor (Soju).

Notice:
*Korean establishments can appear to be very insincere
*Can be pricey (Korean style "semi-gourmet")
*Bring an extra change of clothing if planning to go somewhere afterwards- BBQ smoke will stay in clothes
*Wait staff service will vary (rather drastically) according to how many items ordered per person at table.  If 4 people eat, make sure to order 4 entree items minimum!  Weird- I know.  (minus one star for this bizarre-ness.  This type of service does not occur when you order an appetizer salad for lunch at say.. Cheesecake Factory, does it?!)

OVERRATED AND OVERPRICED.

simply not worth what you pay for...if you want good meat that is.  the decor is pleasant and it's nice that when you leave you don't smell like korean bbq...BUT...why go to korean bbq if the meat sucks?  there are plenty of restaurants with beautiful decor.

anyways.  i just wanted to put it out there.  this place is overrated.

The perfectly marbled meat makes my mouth water before it even hits the grill!
This place gets the first pick of the best quality of meats in La.
Great place to take visitors: very clean nice decor + best galbee in ktown.
Only draw back is I don't feel as comfortable eating here as I do at Park's.
It's too nice for the old school k-bbq meal and it's a bit more pricey.
Remember: it's tacky to chow down first quality k-bbq. @_@!&^$?
Too bad I'm tacky.

The new place is hip and trendy.  I always like the outdoor patio, but last time we were seated in private room due to the large number of people in our group.   It's a bit pricey compared to other Korean restaurant nearby...but the galbee is yummy.   I also like the blue crab kimche.   For some people,  it looks like a scene/dish from Andrew Zimerman's Bizarre Food, but you have to try it.   Raw blue crab meat is very sweet when fresh.

This place is great. Good service and great food. Its also not to shabby to bring people. Its not cheep but its a good price for all of the food u get. Yes the Chosun Galbee is excellent. The quality of meat is pretty good and it clean. But if u want cheep I would go across the street to Mann but he quality is way less then this place.
