16 reviews for Chopsticks House
My first mistake was not checking yelp first. Seriously, I'm done with seamless web reviews. This is the third restaurant that was highly rated and served terrible food.
One star for arriving quickly. One star for keeping the place clean - which I knew had to be true because some of my sushi had that cleaning product taste. Frankly, Windex-flavored sushi is arguably worse than tasting fishy. It also arrived warm (!) because it was made with warm rice. So nasty. Will NEVER order from here again.
Looks like I'm just another Seamless Web sucker. There's a reason that they're offering 20% off, and it's my fault for not checking Yelp first.
I'm on that tipping point between being sick and being no-so-sick, so I figured I'd try some soups. Ordered the Wonton Soup and some Udon noodles in soup. Wonton should NOT have thicker skins than my iPhone - and I have an ugly hard case! Unsatisfied, I threw them away. Both of the broths were overloaded with salt. The udon was nothing special, I could have bought them at a store if I had a stove to cook on.
The saddest part? I was so disappointed in the food that I went and microwaved a Cup of Noodle.
On the night before Halloween, I sat on the couch watching "Planet of the Apes", hungrily awaiting what I was expecting to be at least average Chinese food. Sweet 60s special-effects and glazed, deep-fried chicken - is there a better way to spend a cold Friday night?
But after the food FINALLY came after nearly an hour had passed, I'm not sure which was scarier: the thought of being enslaved by a Dr. Zaius-like ape, the living dead roaming the Earth the next night, or Chopsticks House Chinese food.
Oh wait, yes I do - it was the food. I would much rather chill with a zombie-Dr. Zaius than ever eat here again.
Wow, seriously the worst Chinese I have ever had. I, too, was duped by the Seamless Web reviews and have now learned the lesson to always yelp first. I ordered a General Tso's chicken combo and my boyfriend got the orange chicken. They were the exact same except that his had an orange slice in the container and mine had a chili pepper. I mean garnish is important, but get real. Let's not give them the starring role. The egg rolls and rice were so greasy they were basically inedible. I was NOT hungry 30 minutes later and pretty much had a stomach ache the rest of the night.
Oh, and I didn't get chopsticks. Hello, "Chopsticks" House? Like, don't you guys, um, house them? Can you spare a pair or two? No fortune cookies either, which I guess is symbolic.
Don't do it.
I got chopsticks! But maybe because I ordered sushi? I was suckered into this place like everyone else by the 20% Seamless Web discount and the best of Seamless Web rating.
Everything was smaller than expected, the sushi roll, the General Tso's, even the egg roll.
I had the Out of Control Roll; I was excited to get cream cheese in a roll that was not a Philadelphia Roll. The roll was warm. I assume from the eel.. but eel usually isn't warm in sushi rolls. For the $13 price tag, I also expected a little more substance. There was way too much lettuce garnish in the container, probably to throw me off so I wouldn't notice how little sushi there was.
I also got the General Tso's combo with an egg roll. I thought it wise to pay $1 extra for all white meat. I thought I might get fresher meat that way also and hoped it would arrive crispy and recently fried. No suck luck. Arrived hot, but soggy and it wasn't even cut the right way for GT.. it was all slices.. and the sauce.. It was way too sweet! More like a combo of sweet/sour sauce and GT sauce. Not spicy at all, just a few red peppers in the mix.
The portion size was more of a lunch portion size and the egg roll was even smaller than a normal one. It wasn't bad, I'm just saying, it was small.
Two stars cuz it wasn't poisonous, but there are more average places that get 3 stars from me. Also, took a solid 40 min for delivery to Chelsea.
My phone conversation
--ring ring-
Them: Hello?
Me: Can I order a pickup?
Them: Sure, what would you like?
Me: Can I have the combo, with the sweet and sour pork, egg roll and fried rice?
Them: Ok, Bye

No name, no address...no phone number...hmm No time..gosh.
Food was ok, no fortune cookie TT_TT Quick though and not too far.
Your usual run of the mill NYC Chinese food. Not bad, but not particularly outstanding either, taste wise.
We got chicken chow fun, wonton soup, pork dumplings, and eggrolls. All the food was pretty decent. Nothing to write home about but also, not bad.
On the positive side, it arrived hot and fresh and they got here in 10 minutes. I'd order again since most of the better Chinese places in Murray Hill are about the same and they had a 20% discount promotion on Seamless Web. Not too shabby.
Like the others have said, average Chinese food. I ordered off seamless.web and received a 20% discount. The portion size was on the small side (comparatively speaking), however the food was fresh and tasty. Normal prices -- actually better prices than the competitor's restaurants. I'll probably order from there again. My meal with tip was $10.50 and it was enough for dinner and lunch. Not too shabby.
Food was ok, but nothing special. NO FORTUNE COOKIE. wth? service was rather speedy. prices were pretty good. Didn't ask for name or number when we called though, which was a bit odd.
They turned into sushi restaurant, so they have only a sign high up above saying chopsticks, otherwise you would think you were walking into the wrong place to pick up your seamless web order with discount for first time usage. Otherwise, I wouldn't step foot in here. But truth be told, my lunch combo of orange chicken and brown rice was ok. The wonton that came with it was pathetic, but that wasn't hard to mess up. Or was it? Service not with a smile.
How ironic and funny Chopsticks has no chopsticks available to their customers. Whatever, I always use a fork anyway.
I have been craving Chinese food ever since my office took up the habit of ordering Chinese food on a daily basis. Since Chopsticks is right around the corner, I decided to give it a try. I've heard good things about it so I was expecting something good and something good (Hunan Beef that is only a little spicy) is what I got.
At $6.95 a lunch special, this was the cheapest meal I have ever had during lunch aside from Mickey D's dollar menus, Subway $5 foot longs, and groceries from Duane Reade. The lunch special is your entree of choice (all the typical Chinese fare), white/brown/or fried rice, and wonton/egg flower/or hot and sour soup. So many choices! Okay, not that many great choices but still decent. And for just $1.25 more, you too can have an egg roll. The servings are ample and the food comes out quick. I arrived during the busy lunch hour to find a full house but got a table immediately. The food came out within minutes and the boy and I ended up having 15 minutes left to roam around the city.
Chopsticks is the same restaurant as Aki Sushi. If you like Japanese food, then you can have it instead of Chinese. However, my friend does not trust the fish here. The Chinese food is so-so. I like that the lunch special gives you lots of options. As for the decor of the restaurant, I was expecting something hokey like a diner. My coworker said it was diner like. To me, it looked pretty Asian. The best part was that it is a clean place. Definitely Americanized. Come on, chopsticks don't even exist here. But it was good. I will be back. It will become an unhealthy lunch habit. The plus side of Chopsticks is that it is less chaotic than all of the other Chinese restaurants in the area. And cheap!
I think that this place might have the same owner as Aki Sushi West - and both places kind of suck.
I ordered from Chopsticks House via Seamless last night and have learned a few things:
(1) If a menu boasts Japanese and Chinese items (not fusion, but have separate J & C menus), then neither cuisine will taste good.
(2) Buddha's delight with tofu, chicken & broccoli, and grilled salmon will all come in the same brown sauce.
(3) Aforementioned sauce is basically a lot of oil, a little soy sauce, and some cornstarch.
(4) Indigestion will follow consumption of overly oily foods.
(5) They don't give out fortune cookies, which I've come to expect at American Chinese takeout places.
In conclusion, thumbs down to Chopsticks House. An extra star because it's relatively inexpensive.
American style fast Chinese food place.
I order deliver from this place on Seamless Web. They're eligible for the 20% off on first orders.
General Tso's Chicken Lunch was solid but unremarkable.
Sliced Beef with Broccoli Lunch had tender meat.
Sliced Beef with Fresh Mushroom Lunch wasn't good at all.
Kunpao Chicken Lunch is pretty mediocre, lots of filler stuff, not great quality chicken.
Wonton soup was pretty good. Hot and sour soup decent. Egg drop soup and fried rice were passable.
3.5
my chinese friend suggested we order chinese, did it through seamlessweb; they came, took awhile but not awfully long...everything was included, good portion, they have a 20% discount if you order thru seamless web. the two of us had platters (meals and egrolls, rice) for $15.
My chinese friend was not impressed; I thought it was fine.
Seriously bad Chinese food. The chicken in black bean sauce was inedible and the rice was mush. The dumplings and egg roll were ok.
I decided to order from their website. They left out the chopsticks, when i asked them to. I'm asian, i eat with chopsticks. Also, it came late and the food, it was cold, and the total of the bill was different. It's better to order from http://seamlessweb.com

I order lunch from here a lot because they have decently priced lunch specials... main dish, rice, and soup or salad for $10 including tip. They deliver quickly and I think it's delicious!
