Dude, where else can you find a plate lunch place that serves Korean, Hawaiian, AND Japanese bbq????!?!!
Oh, L&L?
Ok... fine.
Well. This place is definitely leaning more towards the Korean side. Needing my meat jun fix (for all ya'lls who THINK you know Korean bbq, just get your ass down to Hawaii, introduce yourself to the the cuisine's Hawaiian adopted cousin meat jun, and i promise... you might never come back), I went for the meat jun/bbq chicken combo. This came with a side of mac salad and 4 separate bowls of kim chee, jabchae, and potatoes. Since I was starving, I ate there, and I think that's what earned me the extra side dish.
In all honesty, I stumbled upon this place after my trip to the Iwilei Best Buy. I was actually looking for the City Square location of Shiro's, not knowing it closed down like 2 years ago (have I really been gone THAT long???). After a second of mourning my unfulfilled saimin craving, I saw Chong's "grand opening" sign and I figured, why not?Got the job done, for sure.
So if you're not feeling Korean, this place also has tempura, chop steak, and an assortment of other Japanese and Hawaiian dishes. The seats are cushy and comfy. I hope this place lasts longer than Pj Korean, which is coming up with the same address as Chong's (apparently no more...).
