One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
pros... finally get to see Dr. Henry Kikunaga in action. he is just one of the best optometrists around, he does a very complete eye exam and with all the newest equipment too. i wanted to get some new glasses and also use up my new VSP insurance benefits as well. while doing so i remembered that Dr. Kikunaga's office was pretty close to Dr. Tom Massarats office so i called and got an appointment for an eye exam.
the office is so nice and new, and he has all the cool and fancy frames for regular eyeglasses as well as for sunglasses as well. his receptionist and fashion frame consultant Marylyn, who really helped me pick out my frames. she was very patient and friendly, even laughed at my stupid jokes. but all in all this was the best experiences in getting eyeglasses ever.
cons... not a one.
I have had serious issues with finding an optometrist after Classical Eye closed down in Fashion Valley. They supplied me with The Absolute Best service and eyeglasses so the bar was set pretty high. After all the reviews on Yelp, I decided to go local and try Choice Vision.
Dr. K was completely professional and thorough. The assistant who helped me pick out my glasses was really nice and honest with how different frames fit my face. I really was satisfied with the frames I selected and the service at Choice Vision. I highly recommend you see Dr. K.
Dr. Kikunaga was very personable and genuine, and his intern and receptionist were very friendly as well. The office is new and very clean, and his office has great hours, so it is super easy for people with full time jobs to make an appointment!
I mentioned to him that I usually buy my contacts at Costco, and he told me straight up that for the ones I wear, Costco is cheaper. I really appreciated his honesty and willingness to tell me that.
An aquaintance recommended him, and I will for sure be telling my friends about him!
I was down in San Diego where I went to college at SDSU and checked this place out. Man this place has a really nice setup and it just so happened that my VSP plan was about to expire so they hooked me up some with acuvue oasis contacts (w/ hydraclear) and they really feel great when I wear them.
Definitely top notch service here. If it weren't for the fact that I live in the Bay Area now, I would probably come back more often. you can check out their stuff at http://www.ChoiceVisio... and tell them Van The Man sent you for a possible discount!
Thanks Dr Henry, my eyes feel great!
Van The Man Must Try : Those eye drops that dialate your pupils all day because it makes everything seem soooo bright.
Dr. Henry is an excellent doctor and gave me the professionalism and care that I had hoped for.
My previous eye doctors had cut their procedures short, and I found out from Henry that there were a number of procedures that should be done to help detect any eye issues early on.
Well the first thing I liked was that the office had a very professional look to it. it was not a cheap quick setup; dr. kikunaga had put considerably time, thought and effort into to place. It eased my feeling when I arrived.
the second thing was the customer service. Both the technician & Dr, Kikunaga were kind, professional, confident & honest.
The third was they took their time and made me feel very much like an indivdual instead of an average walk-in patient.
My eye problems were difficult & unique. i also did not have information to assist the Doctor in finding the right lense for me(due to my previous doctor retiring with my information). Dr. Kikunaga was able to run my insurance benifits without a problem and offer me fair affordable out of pocket solutions along with my insurance.
I'm so happy I found a new Eye Doctor to fill the vacancy left by my old Doctor.
Choice Vision and Dr.Kikunaga can consider me a patient/client for life! :)
I was in the shopping center where Choice Vision is located, so I decided to pop in and take a look. Very nice setup and friendly staff. I wasn't planning on making an appointment when I walked-in, but I did! I DID need new glasses! Making my appoinment was quick and easy.
I was the first of the day appointment, so Dr. Kikunaga was there on his own. I didn't know he was the doctor at first because he was the one having me fill out all the paperwork. The exam was quick and comfortable. Hah! I sometimes get weirded out sitting in a dark room with a strange man, but Dr. Kikunaga made me feel at ease.
I don't remember the name of the girl who assisted me with choosing frames, but she was AMAZING! Hah! I sat there and she just brought me frame, after frame, after frame! I must have tried on somewhere around 30 different frames! I'm nuts, I know it. All in all, I ended up with a hot pair of new glasses that look great on my heart-shaped face.
I HIGHLY recommend CHOICE VISION OPTOMETRY!!
Choice Vision is the illest!
I called in to make an appointment for a day later in the week. Receptionist said "well, can you make it today?" I was like "sure, what times do you have available?" She said "what time do you want to come in?" I was like, "hmmm. let me just brush my teeth and ill be right over."
Went in, met the Doc. Got an exam. And I got to say, Dr. Kikunaga is the best optometrist in the world! Coolest dude I know that's a wizard in the study of the oculars. Also the first optometrist to give me a FULL eye exam. Making me realize that all the other eye docs ive had were all scrubs.
Super duper Doc. Friendly staff. Cozy little office/shop. Free candy!
Go get your eyes checked, son!
been here only once, had a good experience, I felt that Dr Kikunaga was knowledgeable, experienced & patient. He answered all my questions. His staff is not rude, they are helpful & follow up accordingly. I would recommend this office to any one for eye exams.
I've never needed glasses before, but at 34 I realized that my vision was not as good as it used to be. Dr. Kikunaga put me at ease and walked me through the entire procedure. I chose him after reading the other reviews here and they are right! A big thank you to the doctor and the very friendly and supportive staff that works there!
Thank you yelpers. From reading the reviews, I made a visit to Choice Vision and it was worth it. My girlfriend had complained to me of headaches for weeks, and already had glasses.
I searched for a good local optometry, and saw the many good reviews. Folks If you're looking for a clean, friendly, reliable optometry business in C.V., this is the place!
My girlfriend was impressed with all of the staff at Choice Vision, and the attention to detail Doc Henry gave to her. Her headaches are gone, and she has a trendy pair of glasses that makes her look great. I wasn't even the client and Henry came out and started a friendly conversation with me, which is unlike most other doctors.
Good quality glasses, lots to choose from for men and women, friendly supportive staff, clean looking business, and you walk out a happy yelper.
Dr. K's office is one of the best that I've been to. The office and styles of frames are very up to date. Unlike those places like lens crafters and such.
You don't feel like a number in his practice. Every patient is numero uno.
Nice part about his practice is that he is always looking out for the patient.
I have definatially recommend him to all my friends and family in the SD area.
Choice Vision offers Superior Quality, Service and Care!
I made an appointment with Dr. Henry after hearing many wonderful things about him from my colleagues. My eyes were read and itchy and I had some sort of weird growth on my eye, that I referred to as a cataract (even though I knew I was way wayyyyy to young).
When I arrived to my appointment I was greeted promptly and escorted to an exam room within minutes.
Dr. Henry looked at my eyes and seemed to know exactly what was wrong. He proceeded with a very thorough examination answering all my questions along the way. He calmed my nerves about the odd growth on my eyeball and explained that it was most likely from sun damage, and it was comparable to a blister on the hand from doing yard work without gloves. Made perfect sense to me since I had been a competitive swimmer and swim instructor and spent almost twenty years soaking up the sun without sunglasses.
Dr, Henry then gave me samples of eye drops that would help the irritation and inflammation, and talked to me about the pros and cons of having the growth removed.
I used the samples that Dr. Henry gave me and the very next day I could see and feel a vast improvement in my eyes. The funny growth (Dr. Henry told me the official name...but I don't remember it) was much less noticeable and my eyes were no longer red and itchy. I thought about our conversation and took Dr, Henry's advice and decided It was not necessary to have my "cataract" removed.
I must admit I have very high standards and expectations and Choice Vision exceeded my expectations
4.75- Dr. Kikunaga (Ki-koo-nay-guh) rocks fo sho!
I have vision insurance, but don't often think about using it. This year I know I'm eligible for new frames, so I figured I'd get my eyes checked. I wasn't quite sure where to go for this, but I happened to see Choice Vision advertised up on yelp, so I figured why not.
So this place is pretty new. I think they told me they just moved in at the end of January, and you can tell. The office was well lit, and looked very up to date (not like those dingy lens crafters or nu-visions you might see at the mall). The receptionist working was very friendly and had me fill out my forms. Once we got that out of the way, it was time to meet Dr. K!
Dr. K, (Henry as friends may call him) was very kind, and did well to establish rapport with me, telling me a bit about himself, and asking about me as well. He was also very knowledgable and thorough in his explanations of what he was doing throughout the appointment. I liked how he took subject matter I have no knowledge about what so ever, and made it very easy to understand.
I also liked (though found a little strange at first) how when it came to picking frames out, the receptionist sat me down, and kind of had me model glasses. Since my wife wasn't with me, it was nice to have a woman's opinion about how my new frames were going to look.
And though I don't have kids, on my way out, I saw Dr. K give some kids some "goodie bags" for coming in that day. It's those little things that made me really enjoy my exp. with Dr. K and his staff. I would certainly recommend him to anyone in the South Bay area.
Chuck Norris Rating- Eye Gauge to the eye! (don't worry, Dr. K can fix ya!)
I just had a very thorough I exam with Henry. Located just off the 125 toll road, he's in a mall with a lot of good restaurants and an Albertsons. He took his time examining my eyes and making sure I have the right contact lenses. I like his recommendations so far. I think the lenses he gave me are far more comfortable than the ones I'd been prescribed the year before.
i didn't need new glasses, but he has a large selection of glasses. . . Just about every brand under the sun. Don't forget to take a piece of candy by the front desk.
After quite some time dealing with blurry vision and tired eyes, I felt it was about time for me to start searching for an optometrist to have my eyes checked. I had a few previous selections in mind through my work insurance provider, but I decided to take a chance and find one through Yelp. It didn't take long for me to find Choice Vision as I had read many fine reviews from a handful of patients who have previously visited Dr. K.
Setting up an appointment was not difficult at all. You have the choice to contact them via website or by phone. I actually emailed my concern in which Jayme, their friendly optician had called me back the following day to answer any questions and to schedule me for my 1st appointment.
Scheduling for an appointment was a breeze as they were able to schedule me to come in on a Saturday morning. Its location was not difficult to find as it sits right across from Albertsons and next to a martial arts facility where parking is never a problem.
Upon arriving to my first scheduled appointment, I was greeted by a receptionist working that day who had checked me in. I wish I got her name, that way I'd be able to give her a friendly yelping shout, but that's okay. While waiting, I ran into an employee from my work who happened to be in that same day, how ironic!?! Shortly after, Dr. K called me in for my first eye check up where he introduced himself before beginning the exam. He went through the paperwork I signed before he called me in and answered any questions and concerns that I had for him. Dr. K was very informative and straight to the point in answering my questions which showed me that he is very knowledgeable of his practice and knows what he is doing. After the exam, I was not surprised that I needed glasses as I figured that my vision had not been as clear as it had been before I started working. I took Dr. K's advice to take breaks when working in front of the computers and to close my eyes every now and then to avoid dry eyes. After dilating my eyes and waiting 15 minutes for it to set in, he further examined my eye and determined that there wasn't anything serious going on so he went ahead and sat down with me to pick out some frames that would go well with my facial structure.
Dr. K was very helpful and honest in choosing a pair of frames for me. I must have tried on more than 12 pairs, but finally settled on a pair of red Fendi's that I absolutely loved! After settling with the Fendi's, Dr. K then told me that they would be ready in 10 days. Unfortunately, the lab had issues inserting the lens into the frames so it took a little longer than 10 days for it to arrive. After close to 3 weeks of waiting, the frames arrived, but not quite in the shape it should have been in. Jayme expressed her sincerest apologies to me as she was not happy with the nick she found on the lens when it arrived. Since that was the case and being that I had been waiting for quite some time, I decided to just pick up the glasses, pay for the rest of my fee and just leave, but that wasn't the case. I couldn't just leave without expressing my true feelings to Dr. K in which I did and with that he saved me the stress and cut a few costs to the rest of the fee that I had to pay when picking up the frames. Since the lens had a nick, Dr. K went ahead and ordered a new lens to replace the one with the nick. When that arrived, there was a problem with that again as the new lens was a millimeter off. I mean it was one problem after another and I wasn't sure how to deal with the situation anymore. Dr. K was very concerned with what was going on and assured me that he would take care of it and sure enough he did! He hooked me up with another new pair of frames at no cost and I was very appreciative of what he did at this point. Not only was he understanding, but he went above and beyond what was expected and I am thankful for all that he has done for me. I am even happier now with my new second set of frames and have received numerous complements from co-workers! Since then, I have referred Dr. K to my co-workers and even ran into another employee from work in Dr. K's office! What a small world! That just goes to show that Dr. K takes full pride in his work, helping others improve their vision and making sure that his patients receive the best care around. Thank you Dr. K for your care and for listening to my concerns!
I highly recommend you make your 1st appointment with Dr. K at Choice Vision if you are in shop for a new optometrist or a pair of frames. He will do what he can to help you with any vision concerns like he did for me and many others. Choice Vision has a great selection of designer brands and sunglasses to choose from for your whole family so don't wait or hesitate to get your eyes checked out! Thanks again Dr. K!!! :)
Don't have eyeglasses but walked in with my broken sunglasses. My lens popped out of my Ray Bans and the lady at the front desk was eager to help me. Not only that but she gave me eyeglass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. I didn't even buy anything. I'm recommending my friends to him.
I would very much recommend Dr. Kikunaga to any of my family, friends, and hopefully my own future patients (I am a medical school student). I can say without a doubt that the eye exam that I received at Choice Vision was the most thorough eye exam I have probably ever received. It was even better than at the UCSD eye center, lenscrafters, and a numerous optometry places in northern California. Dr. Kikunaga is also a very friendly and professional Dr, who is efficient and finds the best optical solution for his patients. Additionally, his staff is very helpful and friendly. Finally, the office is brand new, very beautiful, and Choice Vision has some of the best/top of the line frames available (good contact lenses also).
Cost wise Choice Vision is very affordable, especially for such a thorough exam! Thank you Dr. Kikunaga I love my new contacts, they are allowing me to study many hours without taking them off.
Dr. Kikunaga is AWESOME!!
I have been having problems with my glasses and contacts that I've gotten made recently, so I finally decided to get my eyes rechecked. I had been getting headaches from time to time and wasn't sure what was the problem. I found about Choice Vision through a friend, and even though it was a bit far, I decided, what the heck.
As I walked into the well-lit office, a nice receptionist greeted me with a big smile. After filling out a form, she took me to the back for my examination.
Dr. Kikunaga soon came in and greeted me with a big smile too. Since I had to get my eyes checked for both my contacts and glasses, I thought it was going to be hours and hours of boring tests, but it was actually very efficient and worthwhile. Dr. Kikunaga was very professional, courteous, and very thorough with the examination. He also performed an eye health exam and even though I am not an eye-professional, I can tell he was very knowledgeable.
By the end of the examination, I found out why I having those headaches. They had over-prescribed my old prescription!!! Not only that, I also found out that I have a dot in one of my eye that Dr. Kikunaga said will keep a look out for to make sure it is not anything harmful. I have had contacts/glasses since I was in Jr. High, and I have NEVER been told I have a DOT!! This is when I knew he was REALLY GOOD.
After the examination, Dr. Kikunaga took me to try a new pair of contacts and the receptionist helped me pick out and decide on a new pair of frames for my glasses as well.
I must say, this has been the best experience going to an optometrist. Not only that, their after-care was superb as well. After I picked up my new glasses, I took them home and wore them around for a few weeks to find that my lenses were a bit blurry on the sides. I explained the situation to Dr. Kikunaga and he quickly took care of the problem. It was dealt with within a week and was complimentary as well.
I highly recommend Choice Vision Optomestry to ANYONE and EVERYONE!!
One other snip-it that made my experience AWESOME is that Dr. Kikunaga understands Japanese as well, so even more of a reason for those Japanese/Japanese-Americans out there. He mainly speaks English, but he understands Japanese very well, and can speak a bit too. It helped A LOT when I didn't know how to say something in English.
So to conclude, even though it is a bit out of my way (I live up near North County), I will continue to go to Choice Vision Optometry, as they are hands down the best I've been to!
I met Dr. Henry thur his brother, we were college roommates back in the days. I have the so called "Asian disease," blindness without my glasses, lenses thick enough to burn ants on the sidewalk on a hot sunny day. I needed new frames and my wife was having vision trouble at the same time. So we paid him a visit and he noticed my wife's vision problem was due to having a lazy eye. Henry is very easy to talk to and approach about any vision concerns. The staff including his wife, Glenda are very friendly and helpful. Now back to my situation, i picked out a pair of frames they advised me to get since my daughter loves to play with my glasses. A few days after ordering my frames, I received a call from their office explaining that the frames I picked out with the type of lenses I ordered would be a safety issue. When we picked up my wife's frames we found the staff having a meeting about my frames and lenses. I never expected so much attention and care from a pair of glasses. They go out of their way to help you have the right pair of glasses. Thanks for giving me the best pair of glasses and eyecare I could ever have. Plus my daughter loved the candy from their office and Dr. Henry gave her a stuffed doll.
Dr. Henry Kikunaga is a consummate professional and superlative optometrist. Prices are reasonable. The staff consistently exceeds my expectations. I can not speak highly enough of this establishment, the owner, and the entire team that runs the place.
Dr. Henry, Glenda and the gals at Choice Vision are top notch pros! I've never needed reading glasses and for years had perfect pilot vision until about a year ago. Since then I've been in denial of wanting glasses but can't read a lot of fine print in my line of work. Dr. Henry did a great job of explaining the mechanics of what was affecting my eyeballs, vision and answered all my goofy questions about reading lenses and why I could see a gnat on a window a thousand yards away but would have to "play trombone" with a menu to focus on the print. All of them were so patient with me, pardon the pun, I give Choice Vision a big 5 stars , 2 thumbs up and a huge "Waaaassuuuuuup!" By the way, be careful driving at night after letting Dr. Henry dilate your eyes. As I passed every light on the street in my peripheral vision I thought I was driving by a huge ferris wheel lit up, what a trip that was - should've let my wife drive! Ha!
