Tiny shop on Solano and easily missed. They had a great assortment of their own chocolates as well as bars of dark chocolate. Prices were high though and I'm not such a connisseur of dark chocolate that I would spend $12 on a bar.
Still the reason the store caught my eye was that I saw that gelato was served here ... and since I've been craving gelato for WEEKS now, I was thrilled to see they had salted caramel here. The gelato was delicious, but not as good as Bi-Rite, still, it fed my craving. They also had a cinnamon gelato that my friend really liked and promised would take me to get next week. It better still be there!!
Closed ... Sadly I found this out the hard way.
Guess there will be no chocolate bacon flying pigs tonight!
The best thing about this place is that they have miniature versions of some of their expensive offereings. Before you fork over the $5 for a chocolate bar wrapped in vellum, you can taste the mini-me for 50 cents.
If you're concerned about the price, go here when the old lady is the cashier. She loves to comment on what's shockingly expensive and which chocolates are a better deal. But if you're more about how the chocolate will actually taste, go when the young guy is cashier (he could care less) or don't make eye contact with the old lady as you peruse through their collection of $25 European boxes.
It's bittersweet (pun intended) that this place is right across the street from where I work. Down right Dangerous!
Was on my way to Tangerine food bar today and passed this place. Decided to pop in and try their chocolates. First let me say they are pretty expensive. $1-$3 for an individual chocolate. I could tell the chocolate quality was very good. I opted for a apricot marzipan because it sounded totally different and unique as well as a pecan toffee.
The marzipan was good. I really didn't detect any apricot, but thats ok. But the pecan toffee just about broke my f$$%# tooth! I had put it in the fridge for 5 minutes as it had come from a hot car. I ate a bite, almost cracked my tooth off and set it aside. 2 hours later (I was working!), I tried to bite into the rest. OWWW! Still hard as a rock. And not really flavorful for the effort.
I'm sure they have some chocolates that are great. But at $4 for 2 small chocolates and a missed broken tooth, I'll have to think about another visit.
A tiny storefront on Solano Ave. I went to try the Amadei Chocolates from Tuscany, Italy. http://www.amedei-us.com/
The store sells chocolates, bars and truffles from all over the world.
This is supposed the only store in No. CA. who sell these Amadei chocolates, bars, truffles, squares. The family grows the beans on their private cacao plantation, process the mash then ship it to their store to make chocolates. The chocolate is supposedly considered the highest grade of chocolates. For a square is $1 and a bar is $12.
Tried the dark chocolate, Toscano and it was indeed rich with a hint of bitterness. Smooth. Warm and so good.
