Good selection of yarns and friendly staff/owners.  I'm newish to knitting and tend to need a little help picking the right yarn for my intended projects. They often suggest a couple/few yarns that are different prices so you don't get stuck spending more than you might care to.

I haven't yet made it in for open knit night, but sounds like fun. They also have a charity knitting night where you get a discount on your yarn if you're using it for a cause. I've gone in here a couple times with knitting troubles and as long as they aren't too busy they've been willing to help me fix whatever silly problem I've created. I wish they offered a few more classes though!

I love love loved this store.

First of all, the layout and aesthetic of the store were wonderful.  Open with room to browse, but not so open as to seem sparse.  The yarn is kept well-organized in bright cubbies and is well-stocked.  The store is clean and bright.  I loved the wood floors, large couch in the front, high ceilings, and big table for sitting and knitting.

Additionally, the staff was absolutely wonderful.  In fact, when I mentioned that I was moving to the area later this year, one of the employees offered to introduce me to a realtor who frequents the store and is very familiar with housing options in the area.  Said employee has kept in touch with me via Ravelry and is very friendly.  On a more relevant note, she was knowledgeable about the selection and provided tips on projects I was working on.

Prices are in line with what I expect to pay for natural fibers at a local yarn store (versus chain stores or online retailers).  I picked up some Ella Rae bamboo silk for a scarf I've been working on.  The staff readily offered to wind my yarn for me, too, and enthusiastically informed me of the store's knit night.

When I move to the area, this will the yarn store I frequent.

Chix with Stix is the nearest yarn store to me, so when I actually decide to indulge in some fancy yarn, I go here. The prices are definitely up there, but you are paying for some real quality yarn-- it's like knitting with butter!

The staff is very very helpful, which I totally appreciate. The last time I went I wandered and wandered and had questions about everything from patterns to color. The chick that helped me was very patient and knowledgeable and backed off when necessary.

I really like this place, though I can do without the screeching chicks upon seeing something that is soooo cute. ;)

Oh and another thing that I love about this store (and I have to point this out) is that they will roll your yarn into a ball for you. Love that! And best of all the yarn is exchangeable (so long as it isn't rolled up)... so cool!

Overall, good selection and great customer service makes for a great knitting day.

Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!

Seriously...if I were a carbonated beverage..I would have exploded. There is no other way to express the glee and excitement that I felt once I stepped foot into the Chix With Stix store.

I have an obsession with cloth, fibers, I love the colors, the feel, the textures and bring those fibers into life.

I had half an hour to kill before picking my son up from school...I had googled yarn shops earlier in the day...found rock star parking and I was seriously in yarn heaven!

What makes a yarn store incredible to me is their ability to inspire.  Sure you can have bookcases upon bookcases of yarn...but yarn alone doesn't get my creative juices flowing.  In all honesty, I have not completed a knit project since 2005.

This store had tons of completed projects that made me drool.  I fell in love with their amiguri dolls.  It is my new mission 2009 to perfect my crocheting skills and make some of these little cuties.

They have an incredible selection of hand painted, hand woven, and many well known designer brands.  Their selection of books and needles were also abundant.  Everything was well displayed, neat, and and drool worthy.

Key things that I noticed about this store?  Absolutely no attitude.  Helpful staff.  A play area for children so that their parents can browse...and open knit Wednesdays where you can bring wine, etc and hang out with other knitting geeks.

I did not have time to purchase anything today, but I am definitely making the store my first priority errand on his next school day.  I'm in big trouble.

I've been bitten by the crochet bug.

I went to a school sponsored event recently where I learned how to crochet. Some of the yarn for our project was donated by Chix with Stix; I was curious to check the shop out when I noticed it was near my parents house. Hopefully, I'll stick with the crocheting and the little knitting I know so that eventually I'm able to make more than just rectangles of fabric and baby hats.

Even though I'm a novice, upon walking into this place I got the feel that it was a knitters dream. We were immediately greeted by a cute little purse pooch who seemed to be crushing on my mom. There was different color and texture yarn for as far as the eye could see. There were also what appeared to be handmade pieces sprinkled throughout the store too. My mom pointed out all of the ones she liked; since I've got her Christmas present covered I think she was hinting that should I become good (read competent) she'd like me to make her one. The store itself is adorable and homey in a shabby chic sort of way. There was also a cute little table in the middle perfect for crafting and teaching.

What I didn't know when I visited was that Chix not only donated yarn to the Save the Children Knit One, Save One event I participated in, but they are also sponsoring it too. If you agree to participate they'll supply the yarn, you do the work and drop of your hat(s) once done. The woman who helped me suggested a really cute ball of yarn for the next 1-2 hats I make.

Bottom line: I wish I lived closer, I'd be a regular here. In addition to cool stuff they sell, they have a lot of neat events and classes including a weekly open knit. Everyone was very nice and helpful, the only thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars is that I don't know much about types of yarn, knitting and crocheting - yet.

I've been wanting to visit Chix with Stix for some time as I've heard a lot of great things about the shop AND they are currently offering knitters a free skein of yarn to knit premature baby hats for the "Knit One, Save One" campaign.

I finally got there this weekend.  .  .

Overall it's a cute shop, but it's not yarn heaven or even yarn heaven - the sequel.  I was a bit torn on the overall feel of the shop - they kept the older historic look, but tried to give it a modern feel.  Personally I wasn't digging it.  Sorry.

The selection is decent and I liked that they had yarns in all different price ranges.  Like most yarn shops if you can't find it there they are more than happy to order it for you.

The staff was very friendly and helpful when I had questions.

All in all, my visit was nice and I look forward to going back again at some point in the future  . . . I just don't know how soon that will be.

I miss going to this store.

For starters, the staff members are all full of knitting knowledge--most of them aside from the owners admit they're primarily working there for the employee discount.  And given their selection, I can see why.

They sell yarns by Debbie Bliss, Cascade, Misti Alpacas, Blue Sky Alpacas, Claudia Handpaints, Dream in Color...they carry bamboo, wool, cotton, and various blends.  They probably have the best frequent buyer program of any yarn shop in the area, though I can't remember the details.

I want to go knit now, but I'll probably find some other random place to review.

Knitting is my pastime-du-jour, but I rarely go in Chix with Stix anymore... Why, you ask?  Because the last few times I've set foot in there, I've walked out having blown half my bank account!

I'd give in 5 stars, except it's pricey.  For an LYS, though (and a great one, at that), I wouldn't expect otherwise.  They carry amazing yarn!  Silk, soy, alpaca... Lana Grossa, Filatura di Crosa, Adrienne Vittadini... bamboo knitting needles and crochet hooks, and hand-spun fibers... it's like sensory overload for a knitting junkie!

I could go on and on, but I'm starting to drool just thinking about it...

I visited this shop for a yarn hop with my knitting group. It was a lot of fun, and the employees were really very friendly sometimes and not so friendly other times. They had a great selection of books, needles and yarn, plus lots of patterns to look through and choose from. One of the best features of this shop was that while it had a good selection of yarn, it didn't feel crowded, kitschy or difficult to navigate. There was also a lot of space for knitters; two large tables and a nice big couch in the front window.

I don't know how parking is usually, but I was there at 10:30 on a Saturday and there were several parking spots right out front. I'd visit again if I was in the area, but as it's about 40 minutes away, it doesn't blow me away so much that I'd make the trek out there when Arcadia is so much closer. I haven't decided if I thought the classes were overpriced or not.

Also, if you're allergic to/do not like dogs, don't visit this shop. One of the employees' chihuahua is almost a permanent fixture here.

I went here 3 times and they were always super nice to me.  I'm a novice knitter and they helped me pick out the right sized needles to make a hat with.  They carry my favorite brand of yarn (cascade 220) in an array of awesome colors.  It's a cute space too.  I was so glad I stumbled upon it.  Great addition to downtown Forest Park.

Great shop! I have been to many of the stores in the area and this one is my new favorite. Not only are the employees extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, but the products are great. I have been searching high and low for a certain yarn and they carry it! However, they also have many of the favorite standbys too.

Overall, a perfect shop. I wouldn't change a single thing.

I don't know what to think yet. They were very helpful, but I believed that the classes were overpriced.
