I haven't had Chipotle since my freshman yr in college in SB. That was four years ago. I use to study across the street at the Kaplan center and I was super hungry. I walked over and I ordered a chicken burrito: no beans and mild sauce. It was extremely good! I love the rice!

I came back last week and ordered the same thing. Yea I am not much of a risk taker. This time I had a friend with me. We sat outside. If you want to check out chicks sit outside. It is right next to the AAU so a lot of people walk by. That was what my friend was doing the entire time we were eating.

One downside to Chipotle is that it gives you severe food coma. -_- Instead of going to study I went home and took a nap.

I go to the Academy of Art right next to this Chipotle, so it's a convenient place to just walk down the block and grab a burrito when I'm starving to death (since I usually can't finish one of these burritos, I only eat one when I'm dying hungry, which is actually quite often).

No matter what time I go here, the servers here are always friendly and funny. Very down to earth guys! It depends on what I feel that day, but I sometimes order my burrito without beans (yes, I'm one of THOSE people), so it's funny whenever the servers give me this weird look for just getting rice.

They get a huge plus, however, for making my burrito super huge time after time! Not that I can ever finish a Chipotle burrito in one sitting regardless of how big it is, but it makes for a good second meal later during the day. I always feel like I got my money's worth, which is never a bad thing. [: (Hay, I'm Chinese, go figure.)

I can't decide whether I like this location or the Market Street location better. This one always has shorter lines, but has less seating. The other one has outdoor seating, but usually has a line out the door. Since both Chipotle locations are equidistant from my place of work, I can pretty much flip a coin. They are both consistently good & fast.

My only complaint...why do they wrap the burritos so loosely? Obviously this is a Chipotle trademark cuz every one I've been to wraps them exactly the same. Often times my burrito has fallen apart halfway through my meal. It's a good idea to grab a fork so you can pick up every last morsel that falls out of your burrito.

For those of you working in the Union Square area, there is a location opening soon on O'Farrell between Powell & Mason. I'll be the first to review that one, fo sho!

Used to eat there once a week at the one downtown SF until a chicken burrito landed my friend and I sick for a couple weeks. We called and they apologized, but offering up free burritos just doesn't do anything for me.

Crazy how they're getting so much positive publicity from Oprah this week - but yet you can find thousands of 'food poisoning Chipotle' results in Google - Ah... yes... the millions of dollars they make can afford them a first rate PR team!

This is just like any other Chipotle I've ever been to. The food was good and fresh. The thing that makes this location my favorite is the costumer service. Every single time I've gone into this place the workers have been so kind. Its a breath of fresh air considering 90% of employees at other work places I go to are rude...

I recommend this location!

"Writing this review to the detriment of my "Pretension cred""

What "In n Out" is to burgers, "Chipotle" is to burritos. Always fast. Always tasty. Always under $10.  Their barbacoa or perhaps the hot salsa is not for those with sensitive stomach.  Bill Niman found of Niman Ranch is an adviser to Chipotle, and Steve (Corrected thanks to Colin B.) Ells (founder of Chipotle) and Bill Niman's relationship goes back several  years. "Chipotle" is somehow involved with distributing / promoting "Food Inc." (though it could still be an awesome marking move) this sets them apart from their fast food competition like McDs and BK and the like chains.

** Also upgraded to 4 stars for paying attention.

It is good when you are craving chipotle... otherwise don't let this place fix your burrito craving.  Drive into the mission for that.

High quality meats is a plus and the rice is pretty good but all together it just tastes too much like mcdonalds... oopps did I say that out loud?

yea pretty much good for a quick huge bite.

The New Montgomery Chipotle is the one I go to. The team there is a 'team'. They work well together with speed and a playful attitude. I usually hit them up 2 minutes before closing (b/c of my work schedule) and they're always happy to make my last minute order. The one time (only one)  there was a delay in my order, they comped my entire meal--I couldn't believe it! So kind and generous!

After working out at 24 hours, my two friends and I were starving...we were walking around trying to figure out where to eat at, since last night the weather was pretty nice. We stumbled upon Chipotle. BURRITO after a work out hahaha...sure why not, it has all the essentials. ( rice, beans, meat, sour cream, guac, salsa, etc) haha What more can you ask for.

Walk in and we see this HOT guy haha. Nice eye candy is always good. Anyways he takes our order and we sit down. All three of us agree...HOT!

Cheap, good food, great eye candy! Love this place! Will be back on Mondays at 7:30pm just to see if our eye candy is still there. :)

The average sodium intake from their burritos / bowls is 1300-1500gms which is more then triple of your max daily intake, plus who knows what's in that meat... oh and they charge $1.50 to put guac in your burrito... YEAH RIGHT!!!

It was pretty okay for a chain mexican restaurant. I went in and got a veggie burrito. It was A-okay. the guacamole was pretty good and creamy I think. But nothing really special. It's right across the street so its an easy place to grab a munch.

This review is really regarding a lame moment.

I made my order off the iPhone app, I thought, Cool. It's easy.

And it was. When I got there, I went to the pickup station, clearly said, "I ordered online. Name is Scott."

Manager guy turns around, yells through kitchen door, while I could see a woman shaking her head, 'no' - which clearly meant it wasn't ready. I had placed the order 20 minutes before.  She gives him a piece of paper - clearly my order.

Manager turns to me and says, "We've had a problem with our online orders today; basically when that happens, they go through as a fax."

(I'm thinking -- what does that REALLY mean?)

Then, with my order print-out, he turns to his staff and tells them to give me my order now. "It's on the house today."  He give me a cup for a drink, and I go to fill it. He walks over a minute later with my order in a to-go bag, again apologizing. He says something -again - this time about the wireless being down.

I say, I understand, since I work in tech, too-- though his explanation was clearly not making sense.  How could they not get my order when he clearly had the printout in hand when I arrived?

So, the girl I saw earlier comes forward, and says, "I'm sorry, I didn't see your order before. "

Long pause. The manager turns red, and I glared at him and said, "Thanks again."

Now, I'm not sure why he felt like he had to lie about it, but it was totally unnecessary.  I'm giving this place a rating of three, and that's for the generous (and correctly done) free food, and the iPhone app, and the fact that it is still good food, but the little slip-up by this store wasn't necessary.

They could keep a better eye on incoming web orders.  That's all.

Fast, fast, fast!

Probably the top 5 reasons to eat at this Chipotle, much less any one, as I swear their employees had to have previous experience in assembly line production. And considering they're practically the Mexican McDonald's of fast food (wait, they actually ARE the Mexican food McDonalds!), they do a great job in maintaining that reputation.

Well, at least this one does. I'd say most Chipotle's aren't quite as fast and efficient. In fact, in most cases, I can linger and ponder all sorts of meat-wrap-filling-salsa-topping choices without any serious pressure on me in any other Chipotle's I've ever been. But here  I feel like if I don't have every option and combination ready by the time the first "Can I help you?" comes up, not only will they make whatever they want, but I'll be at the register with a barbacoa burrito stuffed with their hottest salsa and guac and they'll be reaching into my pockets for my cash while I sheepishly eek "thank you?"

But fast they are, and I appreciate that. I'd say though that they have to be, because I've never seen this place slow. It's always packed no matter when I leave for lunch, with a line that goes around the bend and back towards the soda fountains. That part wouldn't be so bad if the doors opened outward, but they open inward INTO the line of people, who aren't always very accomodating when a big glass door hits them in the behind (or the face, usually). I guess though you can't really blame them--the people that is, not Chipotle. Bad move on your part.

If you've never eaten at a Chipotle, it's pretty simple the fifth or sixth time you order: you pick from one of 4 meat options, you pick from 3-5 wrapping options (one of which isn't a wrap but a bowl you can't eat), 5 salsa choices and additional toppings like sour cream and guacamole. Then you pay, get a drink if you like, then dart around the small dining room trying to pressure lounging eaters to get lost so you can lounge eat too. Yesterday in the assembly line while they were making my car, some guy was there who I think was JUST the tomato salsa guy. I asked for a few different things, including the corn salsa, and he just handed my stuff off to the next guy. Really??? Was he actually a one-item pony in this shop? Isn't that a little much when it comes to the assembly line? Maybe the union protects his job, who knows...

In most cases I leave with my stuff. Too much pressure to eat there, you feel like you're contributing to world hunger by taking ten minutes to enjoy your food if you stay there. There is a bar where you can eat as a single diner (not alone, mind you, as every other single diner is squeezing next to you to do the same, so you're bound to meet a new person or three), and there are plenty of outdoor tables and chairs (keep in mind that this is SF, so unless you're prepared to hang outside in 50 degree weather in summer, you're in for a cold lunch), but this dining room is truly crammed and cramped.

One nice this about this place is the spicing choices you have. Aside from their salsas (I like the corn one best, medium heat and well, it's corn!) they also have an array of Tabasco (sponsored) hot sauces. Too bad they don't have many different brands and levels of taste, but this is commercial fast food, too many choices would just slow them down and cost them too much moolah. I always liked the Tabasco chipotle sauce (just happen to, no actual brand alignment plug here) to compliment my stuff.

It is fast food though, so you can't expect quality to make you dance in the street hugging the homeless or anything, but it's a decent and sometimes guilty pleasure indeed. And the choices are pretty limited. Just a long as they don't put an Egg McBurrito on the menu, I'll be fine with it.

So if you need a fast lunch and want to fill your insides with a fat burrito or soft taco full of fast food quality meats, this is your stop. And as long as these guys can keep the line flowing (and my intestines flowing--it is mexican food, after all) like they do no matter how busy, I'll be more than happy to come back again.

BTW, I swear the pics attached to this branch's Yelp entry are actually NOT from this branch.

Chipotle is pretty much has really good burritos. It is like fast food, but actually really good and they get it all ready really fast. What I like the most here is the service. There waitress who was cleaning the table and stuff. She was really nice. Offered me salsa with my chips even though I didn't want any. And, she cleaned up after me and brought me napkins. I kind of felt like i was at a regular restaurant and not a fast food place.

Service = great!

Today as I was going through my friend's profiles on Facebook, I came across the information that two of them are pregnant. They're both younger than me. By two years. It got me thinking about having children and getting married, despite neither having a boyfriend nor a guy I can stun with a "whoops!".

Then my therapist described, at length, the birthing process. Now if I didn't need therapy before, I sure as fuck need it now.

Chipotle is kind of like having a kid to me. Eating that burrito, with fresh ingredients and fast service is just like making babies; especially the fast part because my taste in men is HORRIBLE, but still delicious.

Then after devouring the ridiculous amount of food they served you, you suddenly feel like something is growing in your stomach. Despite the backaches, the always going to the bathroom, feet swelling, and other nauseating qualities it brings, you're convinced it was all worth it.

Then 9 months later you're shitting out a kid, screaming for an epidural and wondering why on God's green earth did you ever think that was a good idea in the first place.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chipotle was heavily frequented by Mormons.

This place earns 4 stars because the staff here is ridiculously pleasant.  The place is always packed and yet everyone that works here smiles from ear to ear and still manage to get those burritos made at lightning speed.  Subway on 2nd, please take a look at the staff here and revise your 'tudes accordingly.

The burrito bowls are pretty cheap, crazy filling and I don't feel they're clogging my arteries and adding (another) layer to my mid-section.

Yay Chipotle!  Props to the staff!  Minus one star because I like quac in my bowl and that costs waaaaaaaaay more than it should.  $1.75?  Bitch, we're in a recession...

We were pleased with our visit to this site on Saturday. It was selected by a friend visiting from Boston as being within walking distance of his Union Square Hotel and BART.

Clean, efficient, good food and we liked the galvanized metal decor. The waitstaff was excellent, and everyone got *exactly* the ingredients which they wanted in their burrito. The music (mostly rap) was a trifle loud for our  ears, but we were still able to talk and enjoy a conversation with our friend.

All in all...a pleasant surprise.

For all those that LOVE Chipotle, I have yet to figure out why...

What is it that makes this place so popular? They have a very basic menu, their typical burrito is a little healthier compared to the other burrito spots, but the food also lacks flavor. There is nothing about it that stands out in my mind. If the name Chipotle wasn't so well known and the chain wasn't so big, I would have already forgot about them.

After living in the heart of the Mission for a few years, I developed a slow, easy addiction to taqueria food. Anything with pico de gallo was fair game and tasted like it was straight from someone's Mexican grandmother's kitchen.

Still, I find myself at Chipotle more often than I care to admit for a somewhat healthy lunch downtown. With a dirth of Mexican food options in the FiDi, sometimes it feels like the only place to go for cheap-ish and healthy and spicy.

I like to order the vegetarian tacos with all of the fixins. Wait, is sour cream bad for you? Oh well. *sigh*

McDonald's listens to the consumer, builds something completely antithetical to their business.... and apparently built the leader in forward thinking, ethical, health oriented quick food.  Check it out... one of the only chains that offers farm to table stories, as well as caloric contents, and more.  They are really doing good in a nebulous and nefarious business.  Thanks for the transparency, dedication to doing good, and helping us with more information on how to eat, and watch our diets!

YUCK, Chipotle is horrible. I ate here once and then nearly chipotle'ed in my pants on the bus. My skin must have been green. What are those nasty seasonings all the meats are covered in?

I tried this again to be fair a year later. It was so nasty that all I wound up doing nothing but picking off the cheese and throwing the rest away. YUCK.

It was true that McDonald's DID own Chipotle, but no longer does as of 2006. However, if you ask me, McDonald's at least has their awesome breakfast biscuits and hash browns, and Chipotle just has its nasty bunkus-tasting burritos.

There were several things working against me and forced me to eat this burrito.

One: midterms on Saturday meaning there's no TIME to take the 14 down to the Mission and get a perfectly tubular concoction made by a squat little man who can fold a circle in to a concentric pipe.

Two: it was slightly safer and easier on the tum-tum than MacDonald's down the block (I love their fries but I always burp the funniest taste after eating here!).

I'm blown away at the menu.  It's so spare.  It's minimalistic beyond austere.  It was...trying too hard.  But I applaud what they are trying to do with the truncated menu.

Less choices means you have less stupid people standing and staring with their mouth wide wide open, drooling slightly, and the wheels of their mind turning FURIOUSLY trying to make a decision.  Well, there are just as many stupid people in the world but less will spend their time tooling away at the activity described above.

I got a chicken fajita burrito.  This time, I got lots of sour cream b/c i mistook the woman's question for "how much hot sauce?" and not "wanna sour cream?"  I swear they sound the same coming out of her mouth.

And then I experienced the most experienced poorly executed burrito rolling of my life.  She man-handled it.  She molested it in criminal ways.  She committed unspeakable acts of assault and battery, felony burrito wrapping, with a culpable mens rea or at least a blatant disregard for the burrito (gross criminal negligence towards a burrito).  And to top it all off, the burrito was not tight.  After all that touching, fumbling, like a pre-pubescent teenager in the back of the bleachers during football practice trying to get to first base before the bell rings, the burrito was not turgid.  There was a hand print on my burrito.  I had to prop the thing up with the foil or else the whole thing would have gone limp and spilled sour cream everywhere.

It tasted decent enough, with the monster amounts of sour cream that it contained.  It cost $6.46.  The rice was not mexican rice but rather, white, seasoned with cilantro.  And it was kind of sticky.  How asian.  The peppers and onions (b/c it's a FAJITA burrito) were so pungent, the vampires were dropping like flies as I walked past them on the way home (even though it was onion and not garlic that I ate).

It's a quick enough fix close to school.  I may be talked in to coming back if the one next to Flames is already closed.

Food/quality:
I definitely don't go to Chipotle for authentic mexican because it is far from it. I like to believe that it is a healthy american version, although it is packed with calories. With that said, I do enjoy frequenting the chain when I am hungry and want something inexpensive. Although I usually thoroughly enjoy the steak fajita burrito, at this particular location it did not live up to its usual quality. The peppers were crunchy as usual, something I enjoy. However, the whole burrito just tasted a bit off.

Service/Atmosphere:
I cannot comment on service or atmosphere this time as a friend of mine was nice enough to grab a takeout order for me.

Value:
Overall, it is a great value for the type and quality of food that you receive in an order.

I used to visit this place about once a month--one of those favorite and secret sins, or whatever that term is called. Guilty pleasures? Yeah, that's it.

They make a badass burrito. And I just moved here from Texas a year ago. I know my salsa, and burritos.

Granted, this is a McDonald's spin-off (BARF!), but they claim to provide meat to the Chipotles in the bay area that have had no anti-biotics, or other chemicals that northern Californians shun. My question is why don't they do the same for ALL the Chipotles? Bastards...

So they make a good burrito. But what would make me get down on my knees and offer a prayer or sexual favor is if they (or anyone in this whole state for that matter) could make some sopapillas. Apparently NO Mexican influenced places around make them, much less even know what I'm talking about when I ask. They're not just a Texas thing, dammit. They had them in Colorado, New Mexico, South America, etc... ( http://en.wikipedia.or... ).

Has anyone else every heard of these tasty and basic treats? Why doesn't anyone around here know how to make this gringo some?

I am a frequent Chipotle customer, and if there were a platinum level for Chipotle customers I'd be right at the top of the list.  After my experiences for the last couple of months, after giving this spot far too many chances, I have decided never to go this particular Chipotle location again.

Why you may ask?

Compare the burrito you receive here to burritos at other Chipotle locations.  The smallest I have ever seen anywhere else is at least 50% bigger than the burritos at this location of late.  The last straw was when the people working the line balked at giving more than a teaspoon of salsa on a burrito (I'm not kidding).

They simply do not quite understand the concept of Chipotle-liberalism when it comes to burrito creation.  Go to the Daly City location to see how it's done, or even the one on Market which is far superior.  Plus, the employees here have a serious attitude.

The second star is merely because this is a Chipotle which is awesomeness.

I usually walk here from work to grab their three soft tacos but this time I had the burrito bowl with EVERYTHING which includes sour cream, guac($1.50 extra), chicken, freshly grated cheese, black beans, mild salsa, and lettuce. I think it looked like more food than ordering one of their reg burrito bombs. I like that you can order margaritas or grab a corona at this one as well. I just got an ice tea however.

The people behind the counter are generally nice and fast, I've noticed sometimes you'll get someone that skimps out on the meat but other than that I've had little complaints about their staff. This place also has an iphone app that lets you order ahead of time if your one of the lucky ones that actually own it. I always seem to almost gorge myself everytime I go here and walk back to work holding my gut. If you go to this chipotle there is a cafe trieste nearby and I recommend the africano mmmm.

All in all, it's fast and it seems healthy, but that probably just because it's missing the grease that is usually in traditional burritos.

I was in the area today for lunch and it was between Chipotle and Subway.  I selected the former.  If I could turn back time...

Let's start with the good.  They sure do have that assembly line thing down to a science.  They have a team of people behind the counter ready to spoon something onto your order.  And the interior is spacious and well designed.

Now for the bad.  Having had authentic Mexican food in San Francisco and when I go to San Diego it is really hard to go for something mediocre.  But like I said I was in the area and wanted a burrito.  And when I go into a chain restaurant like this I understand that I must lower my standards a bit.  That said I ordered the vegetarian burrito with just beans, rice, and cheese.  What came out in the end was this tiny thing wrapped in foil.  Seriously, the burrito was surprisingly small.  After I finished it I was still hungry.  And judging from another yelper's review I'm not the only one to experience that.

Chipotle gets one star for overall execution, mediocrity, and making me spend $6.35 for an unsatisfying meal.  I would have been better off with a $5 foot long from Subway.

Chain shmain, Chipotle is freaking delicious. And I heard they aren't even owned by McDonald's anymore so cut 'em a break, ya hearrrrd?

In a hurry? It's like, outrageously fast. Seriously, I don't even know how they do it. Their assembly line will make your head spin and you'll have your food in hand before you've had time to pull out your wallet. You can also fax in your order (weirdddd) to shave off a minute or two.

I recommend getting your Chipotle in the form of salad. I know, I know... you aren't at Chipotle to eat a salad. But listen up: It's actually just a pimped out burrito bowl with some crisp lettuce and chipotle-honey vinegrette that is straight yummm. Also, I usually go for something more exciting than chicken with my Mexican food, but their chicken kind of tastes like bacon? So I'm down.

Pardon my drooling Chipotle rant, but I am kind of having withdrawals. I haven't eaten it in months due to a shocking fainting spell I had when I saw the nutrition information. This stuff is sinful... I think I'm gonna need it for lunch tomorrow?

Chipotle is a great place to go if you want cheap "mexican" take-out! I work right up the street but I find it really convenient to order online so I don't have to wait in line once I get there.

My co-workers really love the Barbacoa burrito/burrito bowl but my favorite is the Vegetarian burrito (which comes with guac, onions and peppers) or if I'm craving protein, I'll order the Chicken w/ guacamole. I like the way they season the chicken, its tasty! Its such a large portion that I can eat half and be satisfied and have the other half a few hours later.

If you're craving a little snack, the guacamole and chips are perfect. Although the chips are usually good, I find that sometimes they are salted too heavily and I've noticed the same thing with the black beans.

All in all, I find the quality and convenience is worth my $6 - $7.

In the spirit of keepin' it local for lunch today, I decided to get a chicken burrito from Chipotle. For $5.50, you get a burrito that's the size of a brick. I can only ever eat half of it, if that. The hot salsa is really good, and is actually one of the few spicy sauces that make my eyes water while I eat it. For another $2, you can get some tasty chips and guac!

The perfect sized burrito for me? A chicken fiesta burrito from Taco Bell, of course!

Sure, there are way more authentic places to eat in the MIssion that are really really good. For what it is though, Chipotle delivers. You get more food than any human being should ever consumer in one meal all wrapped up in a tortilla for 6 bucks. Plus, the meat is high quality and well seasoned. Not to mention they use organic and sustainable sourced meat and vegetables. What other national chain claims to do that?

As far as I am concerned, the only thing I don't like about Chipotle is that it's owned by McDonalds. I always think it's a bummer that I have to support that behemoth just to get my barbacoa burrito fix. I guess at least you can say it's McDonalds doing something good for the world for once.

For fast food, Chipotle does a decent job at commercializing taqueria food. I went recently (for the first time) before going to watch Up with a friend of mine at Westfield. It wasn't the first choice but a very worthy choice nonetheless.

It's very convenient for urban trekkers like me and provided quick and efficient service. The food was served and tended to on the dot and was reasonably priced. The crispy tacos with adobo beef was splendid, with just the right amount of pop. But why the low score? It's not filling and I found myself gnawing on my plush theater chair and wanting to spend an arm and a leg on theater food.

The environment is decent enough, the food was pretty tasty but it's still a fast-food joint. Not matter how good the food tastes, it ultimately means small portions, decent prices and cramped surroundings and rushed delivery and eating. There are better choices for your taste buds and for more money, only come here for cheap prices and a brief stay.
